Bottle & Thyme in Chesterfield

Booked a table for brunch on our way home from Sheffield. The cafe is a short 5 minute walk from the Saltergate multi storey car park and just on the edge of town. We visited in a Sunday morning for brunch and the restaurant was busy but staff were attentive and we didn’t have to wait too long to be served. The menu is varied with plenty of vegetarian options. Loved it and would definitely visit again!

We popped in here for a drink with plans to get dinner further down the road. When our original plan fell through we stayed at Bottle & Thyme and ate here instead and I am so glad we did! The service was great and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, the wine was great and the food was just fabulous. Definitely the best tapas/sharing meal I've had in a while and I would definitely return even though it isn't local.

Had a few hours to kill so headed here for a brunch and was not disappointed! Fancied something a little more upmarket than a classic £5 chezzy fry up. The eggs florentine was out of this world, the spinach so rich and buttery, great quality bread and perfect poached eggs with a bright orange runny yolk. The coffee was tasty and nice and hot too. All staff were friendly and helpful (and all look like they've just wandered straight out of Zara). To say they were busy, the service was quick and quality of the food was not skimped on, props to the chef! Will come again and definitely recommend, thank you!

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn’t that busy but the service was quite slow. The cocktails were good quality, we didn’t order food but it did look good on the tables around us.

Great atmosphere. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Just superb food choices. Our food was delightful, and beautifully presented. A great experience, not to be missed.

Met a friend here for lunch yesterday. Disappointed at the poor choice of menu. Didn't have any smoked salmon for one of the dishes on the menu so my friend had to have a different dish. I ordered a cheese burger which was £12.50. It was lukewarm . I had to pay an extra £4.50 for chips which I think is disgusting. In most other places chips are included in the price. Overall I felt the venue was cramped and poor value for money. I WON'T be returning.

We have been for food and drinks several times, always amazing.

Good food but VERY slow service. Staff generally seem more interested in chatting amongst themselves rather than serving customers.

This has to be one of the best meals that I have ever had. The chocolate bread and butter pudding was absolutely delicious. The staff are very friendly and attentive. A great place for an evening meal.

Love this little place. It's my regular Saturday morning coffee stop. Always busy but always a warm welcome. I will eat there soon! The food always looks beautifully presented.

Had a lovely lunch there recently. Food was beautiful and the service was good, attentive but not in your face. Recommend.

Made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived. The lunch/brunch menu felt a little limited but the kimichi burger was very very good. The chips could have been a little bit crisper but I still ate them all :) All the staff were lovely and attentive. The only downside is the cost of a bottle of wine - maybe a house wine circa £25 would help?

A friend and I went here for a late lunch. We arrived at about 2.50 and were told by the waitress that they stopped serving food at 3 so we ordered quickly. The decor is lovely, as are the toilets and the service was pleasant. However I felt the price of the meal was extortionate. It cost over £20 for a burger, chips and a coke! Chips are not included in the meal price so it was around £15 just for a chicken burger. My friend had a cheese toastie with chips and we both agreed that the food was a little greasy and I would definitely not say it was worth the price we paid.

The staff are all quite young, and so perhaps it's the norm for them, but on previous visits it's not been anywhere near as loud. It's supposed to be background music....not entertainment guys!!

This really is a hidden gem.. Called in for lunch with my wife today.. Great atmosphere,really friendly staff..fantastic food and the most delicious wine.. We will certainly coming back

Food was excellent! One of the best breakfasts I’ve had. We had the full veggie and the sausage bap, both incredible. I would definitely come here again. Thank you so much Service was a little slow when trying to pay but this doesn’t affect us.

This review would have been average had the service from a blonde lady dressed in brown was excellent hence the 4* review instead of 3. Booked a table for 10am for breakfast with friends - arrived at 9.57am to the internal door open and one of the two external doors open. All lights on so went in. Young girl behind the counter “ we aren’t open yet.” It was -0.5 outside and she made us and another couple stand outside until just after 10.00am. If we hadn’t have been waiting for friends we would have left and gone elsewhere due to her attitude but unfortunately couldn’t. The food and service from other staff was good but she really put us off returning. I understand if they wasn’t open but we was a couple of minutes before our booking time, if people was late they would soon have something to say and secondly she could have acted better in her approach.

Nice friendly atmosphere with the best poached eggs in town

For me the nicest bar / restaurant in town , only ever been for brunch but on the 3 occasions we have it’s always a lovely meal and great atmosphere , it’s busy so would pre book as and when you can but the staff are always lovely and will try fit you in. If you want somewhere nice to take family or relax this is the place.

A fabulous choice of Brunch/Lunch starting at 12pm. Great atmosphere, quality food, polite, obliging and friendly staff. Can’t fault it, it was perfect.

This is one of my favourite restaurants ever. I love that the menu changes throughout the seasons and each time there are some fantastically thought out plates. I enjoyed the autumn menu so much I went two weeks in a row and I can see the winter menu has come out so would love to try that soon. The live music and happy hour from 9pm is always worth sticking around for too.

Bottle and Thyme advertise breakfast served from up until 11 30 on their website however, walked in and to be told at 11 05 that they had stop serving breakfast and their was at least 5 tables free. Will not be returning.

Great night out for our works Christmas party this previous weekend. Food delicious, service outstanding, no empty glasses, perfect. We had a slight misunderstanding with pre-ordering the cheese board but they came up with a solution and everyone was happy. Will definitely be back.

Unexpectedly charming cafe in the centre of Chesterfield. I only had time for a coffee and banana bread due to train times but will certainly seek it out again.

Visited for breakfast and although no seats available asked to return in 30mins,which we did and were seated next to the Barista, who was very friendly and welcoming as was all the staff.The breakfast was lovely with locally sourced food. Well worth booking a time as very busy even at brunch!!

What a fantastic meal and evening. My wife and I were staying in Chesterfield for one night. Having researched places to eat beforehand we choose Bottle and Thyme and we were not disappointed. We chose a selection from the small plates menu and indulged in a couple of cocktails too! The food, drink, service and atmosphere was superb. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and if we lived closer we would use the restaurant regularly. I would highly recommend this restaurant. It was also fantastic value for money too!

I frequently visit Bottle and Thyme , hands down the best place in chesterfield! Whether that be for breakfast, tapas , coffees ,cocktails or their amazing wine knowledge! We have been for many different occasions- as a couple , with our children , out with friends, always a pleasure. Every experience we’ve had here has been nothing less than a pleasure , the quality of the food is fantastic , portion size is great, pricing is good and all of the staff are warm , knowledgeable and friendly- nothing is ever too much trouble. I frequently visit bottle and thyme and it is by far my favourite place in chesterfield!! The food is always amazing no matter what time of day, the prices are low especially for the quality of the food and the staff are always so helpful and friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble! Booked for a family birthday meal. Took a while for a waitress to take our drinks order. Food was lovely but one dish was far too greasy so we did mention it at the end )having left half or it) and we’re given £2 off the price!!! Asked for the coffee menu and this was left lying on our table for at least 15 minutes with no order being taken so we decided to pass. When we paid the waitress stood over us whilst we decided whether to select a tip on the payment device (none needless to say!) which we felt was very intrusive. Staff need serious training………

We were a party of 14 celebrating 2 birthdays. The booking process was easy with Georgia being the point of contact who was always prompt in replying to any emails. We pre booked our meals in readiness and all 14 meals were served at the same time, drink orders taken and also delivered promptly with a smile. The staff were very helpful, friendly, efficient and helpful all the time. The food was excellent, attractive and freshly cooked. They also bought out the cakes with the candles lit for us. I would recommend this place to anyone - it’s got a friendly atmosphere with great staff.

Absolutely disappointing, was looking forward to a lovely breakfast with my mom and dad. Only to get there and stand by the door waiting to be seated for 15 mins, while every waitress just walked straight passed us to eventually have someone tell us that they are full and we would have to wait for 45mins for a table. Shocking that we had to stand there for so long till we were told that they were full. Never going back ever. Very disappointed.

Staff were polite and friendly, but inexperienced. We asked for a couple of swaps with our breakfast (which the waitress got wrong but I let it slide. I asked for an extra slice of bacon in place of mushrooms but I was not warned there would be an extra charge for the bacon, but I received a sausage in stead. It was nice so I let it slide). A place we frequent for breakfast doesn't charge so we never thought to ask. It would have been helpful had the waitress explained there's an extra charge for swapping items. Although the ingredients were good quality the prices are too high for our pockets so we won't be returning.

What a surprise! Managed to book a table before heading to the theatre, the staff squeezing us in as it was so busy - and we can understand why. Strikes me not a lot of great places to eat in Chesterfield, but this one is and would definitely go back. The food was amazing - we had a selection of small plates which we shared between us. We thought they might be small, but there was plenty and we left feeling very full as ate all of it! The staff were super friendly and attentive and the whole place just had a lovely vibe - relaxed, busy, buzzy but not too much trouble for the staff who seemed genuinely pleased to have you as guests. A gem of a place.

First time visiting here today. Excellent food, went for breakfast with my daughter one of the nicest restaurant breakfast that weve had, definitely recommend the eggs Benedict 😊 friendly staff lovely little place.

A quaint place with nice vibes. Quite busy on a Sunday morning rightly so. Reservations recommended.

Enjoyed our meal with friends on Saturday night. Very happy with the vegetarian options with the shared veggie platter with grilled halloumi, courgette chips, homous, Korean cauliflower and more was delicious and filling for my partner & I, as were the twice cooked chips. The only downsides were it was a little too dark and whilst it might be the "in thing" to have live music, the singer guitarist was too loud making conversation almost impossible.

Dropped in for a final cocktail while waiting for the bus on a horrible wet night. Good cocktails (although the most expensive of the evening) and very good service.

I give 1 star because I've got no other option for disappointment I had recently. No proper menu display, no serving skills, my juice has been half of glass and drinks were brought by 2 staff instead 1. Staff should have had the tray and drinks on it and napkins. No skills or patience to explain any dishes from the menu. So so disappointed. Needing lots lots of improvements on presentation and on serving .

Amazing night at Bottle and Thyme for my mum’s 60 birthday party. Hugh and his team were brilliant with our group of 12. Excellent communication leading up to the party, and nothing was too much trouble for them on the night. Food and drinks came out quick from our pre-order but additional add ons were easily made. Food was delicious. Live music was a massive plus, atmosphere was great and everyone had the best time. Highly recommend visiting this place the cocktail menu is fab too. Went here recently with family and had a lovely meal. Staff were attentive and food was appetizing. Unusual menu and dishes were interesting combinations. We were there on a Saturday lunchtime but it wasn't overly busy. Seating area at tables outside front for bought drinks to be consumed.

Great friendly atmosphere. Staff are very friendly, easy to talk. Great etiquette all round. Food and hot beverages were amazing, I had Chai Latte twice and partner had coffee twice. Bakewell cakes were wowwww. We had the eggs benedicts....wow rhat was great, better than weatherspoons...eggs were perfectly done,If we were living nearer, we would visit every day. Keep doing what you are doing.

Had a really nice meal here. Ordered two platters of veggie and meat options. For 5 it was plenty! And great value. We were in a corner which was a tad dark, but didn't detract from the evening. Music was a bit intense for an evening meal, but that could have just been timing to be honest. There was a live musician on, but we left before unfortunately! The staff were great and couldn't do enough. Would definitely visit again when in the area.

Super chilled out indie coffee shop and restaurant. Came here with a mate for a beer and then on a Sunday for brunch. The coffee was really nice, deep roasted flavour. Breakfast is really delicious, fresh and good quality ingredients. Friendly service with a smile. Definitely worth a visit. Thanks guys!

Great place for food wine and cocktails with family and friends

Absolutely fabulous meal, fantastic choice and was superb, everyone enjoyed. Live music was marvellous, his rendition of “hallelujah “ was moving. A place to visit is a must, you won’t be disappointed xx

We pop here now and again for breakfast as it's always been a great place, but since visiting last they've expanded their breakfast menu and now there's an even better choice - so much now it's so hard to decide. Opted for Turkish eggs, wow! Talk about tasty, not recommended if you don't want to spend the morning smelling of garlic, but highly recommended otherwise. Only one quibble, not enough sourdough toast - you'll end up either asking for more or for a spoon otherwise that tasty blend of yoghurt, paprika and yolk will go to waste.

Went for our anniversary and they gave us a free glass of Prosecco each which was so nice ! The service was absolutely amazing, really friendly staff and the food was PHENOMENAL definitely going back !

The restaurant was quiet when we visited on a Wednesday so we were served very quickly and professionally. My chicken in a bun with chips was very enjoyable as was my wife's halloumi and potatoes. I didn't have a dessert but tasted my wife's lemon dessert. I thought the pastry base had an unusual flavour and I didn't want to have any more.

The place was busy and had seating outside which was nice. The meal was OK it seemed expensive for what is was The cheese grilled sandwich was tiny especially when I had to cut the crust off because it was burnt The Korean cauliflower was lovely just need more choice

I feel like this is mean 4⭐, it's the cusp of a 5⭐ for me... Food - Full marks from me, we had the Eggs Royale and my partner had the Buttermilk Chicken Burger - both cooked and flavoured fantastically and well portioned. Beautiful food. Drinks - There's a plethora of choice, from hot drinks, to soft drinks and the cocktails looks nice, though we didn't have this time. Food and drinks for two came out at £30, which I very fairly priced for the quality! Service - Staff are well presented for a nice feel and are very relaxed and friendly. Food and drinks were prompt from seating to eating. Can't complain at all. Atmosphere - It has a nice raw decor, mixing industrial wood and metal with a softer choice of plants and greenery. Spot on. The only thing, I could grumble about was that the menu was clearly used and quite tired. For printed paper, either replace it or seal them... But - would definitely recommend and return 😁

From the moment we walked in the staff were warm and welcoming. The atmosphere was lovely we were in the little room and even though we were tricked away we weren't forgotten. The food was stunning best breakfast I've had.

Called in without booking as I was in the area. The place was quiet as it was before six pm. The staff were very nice. I had the sourdough starter which was great. The Hake main was a little underwhelming as the portion was minute....

Just had the most amazing meal here. Cornish Hake was out of this world and extremely good value. Great range of beer and wine. All sustainably sourced. Great atmosphere and attentive staff.

Had booked a Sunday family meal online over a week ahead, for special occasion. Contacted restaurant to change numbers the day before only to be told they couldn't honour anyway as they had a private function and were going to close early. We could have...

Context: Visited in Apr2022 (drinks) and Apr2023 (drinks and dinner) when in the town. Pros: Very tasty food and surprisingly generous portions. Good local act playing covers 9 to 11 each time. Cons: Asked for food to come out as starts and mains but all came out together. Not cheap.

We booked a team meal for 30 people a couple of weeks ago.The food came out seamlessly for all of us, lots of compliments from the guests in the party about the quality and taste of the plates if food.The waiting staff were amazing, and went above and beyond to ensure a memorable evening was had by all. Cannot recommend enough, well worth the visit.

Lovely brunch. I had the eggs Benedict and my friend had English breakfast. Very tasty and well cooked. And of course cakes! The members of staff were really polite and friendly.

Walked past this loads but never been in. Met up with some friends for brunch and it was really nice. Good range of food and drinks for all tastes at not totally crazy prices. Would have preferred my asparagus griddled but other than that the food was good. Bit cramped inside so quite a lot of noise when full, so maybe not the best place to go if you have people that are hard of hearing

We went here for dinner one evening last week and the food was absolutely amazing. We went with the 3 small plates for £15 deal (Mon-Thur I think) and shared 6 small plates, plus a side of hasselback potatoes. Every last plate was better than the last, I couldn't fault a single thing. Finally somewhere that has a great menu and actually delivers on taste. Service was top notch, nice wine, great cocktails. All in all, a great evening and will certainly be going back again.

Don’t know what are all the bad reviews about about pricing, I had great service here the other day I came and it was packed, the blonde haired lady kindly said that she will reserve me a table and for me to pop back in 20 minutes, I only had a grilled cheese and it was lovely as was the service. Returning ASAP

Not cheap. Offers a decent menu but even the price of a bacon and egg cob was a bit much. Staff are really friendly and welcoming.
