After a long journey to Alvechurch Marina we were pleasantly surprised to find a pub on the doorstep before setting off on a weeks cruise on The Birmingham & Worcester Canal. We were more than disappointed to find no food available on a Saturday evening and to compound our woes a canal side pub that doesn’t allow dogs, What is that all about? Anyway we ventured into the village and found a lovely meal, superb beer, hospitality and a welcome for the hound. As for The Weighbridge NO.

Rather late review of visit on 12.7.24. The best pub in Alvechurch and you don't have to walk far - it's right next to the rail station. Historic canalside pub w/multi room layout, outside seating areas, diverse selection of real ales, ciders and other beers. Was only going to stay for a pint ended up having a few more halves. Friendly and chatty bar person on the day and lots of customers to chat to. Ended up singing 'happy birthday' to one of the kitchen staff. Would recommend a circular pub crawl of Alvechurch and saving this pub for the last. It's about 10 mins walk from the Crown Inn alongside the canal, to get here. The Weighbridge is also the current Redditch & Bromsgrove CAMRA branch pub of the year (- 2023)

As usual great for beers and freindly atmosphere - had food for the first time which tasted great and was a large portion too It’s worth noting that they were only taking food orders if you’d previously booked a table! So if you want food, ring up in the day and book that in

An unpretentious and good old fashioned British pub serving excellent home cooked food and a great selection of real ales. The "Black Country Faggots" were well received and the selection of good, old fashioned puddings were just like schooldays. My friend had the Treacle Tart whilst I had the Bread & Butter pudding. Both came with lashings of tasty and red hot custard. A wonderful find.

Well this is a unique pub sitting right on the canal in Worcester and Birmingham Canal. There is an extensive outdoor area which was well put to use when we were there as it was quite warm. Inside the pub is made up of a few very small rooms, each with there own character leading to the bar which, again, is quite tiny - so be prepared to share your space and let people through where you can so we can all get served and get back out to enjoy the sun. There were a few 'boat people' (I really have no idea what one calls the people who live on the canal boats) in the bar area and they were very welcoming happy to chat about all and sundry. The staff, although few in number, were also very efficient and friendly. The Robinsons of Tenbury Flagon Cider was superb as was the Oakham Brewery's Citra.

I've been going here for about 5 years on and off and I love it! It has the whole ticket, serene country pub with great ales & ciders next to the canal and X-City line makes the whole experience quite romanitc in my opinion. And let us not forget the 'lack' of volume, it's just everything I enjoy. It's just 12 mins on the train for myself which for me is just fantastic. Please may it keep going. The Weighbridge, my favourite canal-side local real ale pub, is wonderfully rich in industrial heritage. When I first went there it was the club house for Alvechurch Marina, the clientele entirely the narrowboat community. Today it is a successful free house with amazing unpretentious pub grub. A CAMRA award-winning pub, with a great choice of unbeatable real ales and ciders, the Weighbridge is frequented by fascinating role models for taking pride and delight in being unashamedly their weird and wonderful selves, from folkies to Morris dancers to boaters to real ale enthusiasts to metal detectorists, all are friendly and interesting to chat to and yet do not judge me if I want to just sit quietly and soak up the atmosphere while enjoying my half a real ale or cider. I joined CAMRA one year, but I couldn’t grow an impressive enough beard to really make an impact. The Weighbridge even has a book club, where I recently picked up a hardback copy of Bill Bailey’s ‘Remarkable Guide to Birds’ which is full of beautiful pictures of birds and ‘titbits’ of information about each bird. I took this home and put it on my bookshelf next to my ‘Easy Bird Guide’ (your mum is in that one) and I went back the next day to replace it with some novels. Any excuse for a wander down the canal to the Weighbridge, although this time it was for an alcohol-free IPA as I am doing Dry January for a break from my real ale enthusiasm. Honestly, I would miss Chris and Caroline and Amy if I stopped going to the Weighbridge just because I’m not drinking alcohol; it is definitely a happy place for me, a safe space to be unashamedly weird. They even have a folk night where I can inexpertly play my acoustic guitar and sing. And the beer/music festivals are the best in the area.

Superb pub in a canal-side location - it was originally the weighbridge office for unloading goods from the barges to carts for onward delivery by road. Internally there's a wonderfully timeless atmosphere with three separate small rooms each with its own unspoilt characteristic. There is also a pleasant garden, although this does not look out onto the canal. On the bar, there's a great range of about half-a-dozen well kept ales to choose from, mainly from smaller local breweries. They do simple, well prepared bar food, centred around sandwiches, jacket potatoes and a few hot dishes including excellent Black Country faggots, served with chips and peas, which is what we opted for. It's not the sort of place to come for that special meal but lovers of traditional unspoilt pubs and real ale will no doubt take delight in this venue. Not to be missed!

Picture the scene; A beautiful sunny day, lovely pub garden. Upon entering a sign stating 'award winning pub 2023' Myself and my dad headed into the bar to get a drink - after ordering and reading out the menu the lady said 'we have temporarily shut the kitchen as the garden is busy, your looking at 45 minutes'. We headed out with our drinks, the only reason we had stopped (we are traveling on the Canal) was to get a bite to eat for lunch!! My dad headed back into the Pub after a short while to see what the situation was, to not really get an answer as the bar tender didn't know what the chef was doing! Madness. We finished our drinks and left. The garden had 8 people in it, the bar a similar amount 😳 the menu was not very extensive. I was left feeling very disappointed! Not one member of staff came back to tell us what was going on. 'Award winning' ... in not serving food???

Only discovered this place recently having visited for the beer festival a couple of weeks ago. We really enjoyed that so decided to visit again as we wanted to try the food. After sitting in the large beer garden enjoying the sunshine we went inside to order some food off the varied menu. The inside of the pub is quite quirky with little "nooks and crannies" but comfortable and welcoming. The bar is very small though but that's not an issue. We went to order our food but was told that they had stopped serving as they were really busy and the kitchen couldn't cope!!! Apparently the pub down the road was sending people there as their kitchen had a problem!! Obviously we were disappointed and started making plans to go elsewhere. As we were leaving we were called back by a member of staff who said they were serving again. We came back in thanked her as she didn't have to do that. We ordered our food and it came quickly and was amazing!! My husband and I had a ploughmans lunch and it was fab!! So much cheese......we took some home!! Our experience here was second to none and all praise to Caroline. She was on her own behind the bar most of the time on a very busy day and she served everyone efficiently and with a smile. She also took time to stop us from leaving when she didn't have to. She is a credit to you and every pub should have a Caroline!! We will definitely return in the future..

The Sunday roast beef lunch was so small we thought it was a child's portion. 3 very small paper thin slices of bought in slice beef from the supermarket if it weighted 3oz you would be lucky. The plate arrived with Yorkshire pudding hiding the slices with the gravey on it but we then waited for the veg by which time all had gone cold. This was a complete Faulty tower. You couldn't make it up. Will certainly not be going back. And £18 for a cheap bottle of wine. NOT A PLACE TO VISIT.

We have been using this venue for ages and it never fails to please. Some time since our last visit and now under different management but good and service were as good as ever. We understand that hospitality is suffering and the menu now offers a reduced choice but no real problem. The only criticism is that the dining room was so cold! Several diners wore their overcoats throughout. We will return in warmer weather. Otherwise five star.
