The Royal Oak in Bromsgrove

We have been using this venue for ages and it never fails to please. Some time since our last visit and now under different management but good and service were as good as ever. We understand that hospitality is suffering and the menu now offers a reduced choice but no real problem. The only criticism is that the dining room was so cold! Several diners wore their overcoats throughout. We will return in warmer weather. Otherwise five star.

Would highly recommend this local pub amazing stuff friendly and welcoming and the locals are too. Food is absolutely amazing and the prices are too.

Booked last minute for a Sunday lunch for four people. Gentleman who answered the phone booked us in but did advise that there maybe a wait on food as the time we wanted was busy. We had the drinks order taken straight away and just had to wait a few minutes for the food order. We all went for the Sunday roasts, 2 beef, 1 turkey and 1 half chicken. The meals actually came out quicker than expected and were excellent. I’m coeliac and they always check if any items may have gluten in them so I always feel comfortable eating here. Staff are always polite and friendly and the manageress likes to make sure everything is as expected. Would highly recommend the Sunday roasts but we have previously been on a weekday and menu is expensive and well cooked. We will be returning!

Booked and confirmed seating in conservatory, as MDR IS TOO DARK and seats are so hard to say the least . We were told our request was just that a request which was fruitless. No longer serving John Smiths so , final boot put in, Attitude towards us from bar supervisor hostile, from here on in. Been patronising this place through several different landlords so it’s a pity Goodbye!

Classic British pub experience - just a couple of minutes from the M42 - and great value for money. We chose the Royal Oak, instead of the motorway services, and we were glad we did. Three of us ate well for 43 quid and the staff were charming too.

Visited with my mom and sister, lovely waiter, food excellent not the first time i have been but never wrote a review for them but thought i should as the food is fantastic, the steak pie was delicious lots of beef, came with separate pot of gravy too , gammon was fab and also the old time favorite lasagna was lovely to great homemade pub food

The food is excellent as always but the sweet menu has been reduced due to 1) No apples, out of season for apple crumble or pie 2) Too hot for custard apparently , so not available with any sweet. They were the only disappointing things.

We are a group of six friends who regularly eat at the Oak. On Saturday we were joined by a young couple from The Netherlands who are related to two of our group. We pre-warned them that the food at the Oak was basic pub grub but great quality and always reasonably priced. We were shown to our table and when we asked if we could possibly sit in the conservatory was told “no problem”. Drinks order was taken and delivered super quick and the menus were handed to us for our perusal. Shock/horror the trusty old menu was gone to be replaced by a much paired down, but more adventurous offering. One of our party, who is a great fan of the original menu asked if he could have “the gammon “,his favourite, again the staff obliged. The rest of our party chose off the New Menu, with some having the pan fried cod with seafood and two of us having roast chicken. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choices which were good quality ingredients cooked well and very tasty. We followed our mains with sweets which were delicious. My only reservations, and this is not a criticism, but comes from a regular client who very much wants the Oak to continue offering great food at reasonable prices. I think you should retain some of the old “favourites “ from the previous menu ie gammon, a steak pie and maybe the fish pie, hopefully that will help retain your older clients, whilst introducing new customers with your exceptional new offerings. Couldn't recommend this place more highly. I booked a dinner for 11 of us after a meeting near-by. Staff were lovely and helpful and we had a very nice, merry evening. Food was great, and the vegans in the group were well catered for, all plates were finished. A massive thank you to Jane that served us :)

Been here a lot of times before but went yesterday (23 June) at 5.30 and was very disappointed. There was a very limited choice !! Sunday menu but they had run out of beef and gammon so there was a choice of turkey. One other chicken dish, fish and 2 burger. My friend had the fish and you could only just see it! The chicken dish was ok. Then we decided to have a dessert. Well 3 of us had the bread and butter pudding. The portion was like when you have a mini pudding with a coffee. We mentioned it to the waiter who told us that one portion had to be divided between us!!! It cost £5.50 each and we weren't offered any discount. It's a shame because we have been going here a few times now!

We dropped in as we were at the local Travelodge and didn’t fancy Miller & Carter’s prices 🙄😉 Very friendly and welcoming staff .. couldn’t do enough for us .. food was very well cooked, enjoyable and reasonably priced. Thanks

Called in with a fairly large party on Friday night. Food was all tasty and home cooked, and service was superb. a few smashing pints of HPA cask ale as well!

Staying at the Travelodge up the road, but didn't like the look of the pub next to it. So decided to see if there were other pubs nearby. The Royal Oak was the nearest. I am so glad that I came here, the hospitality was great, they had trainees being professionally accompanied by experienced staff, I had the Jerk Chicken my beautiful girlfriend had the Mediterranean lasagne, and the food was amazing, what a lovely pub, the manageress Jane and her colleague Mya, were very friendly, very helpful and conducted then selves in a very professional way especially as they were trained new members of the team, if you happen to every be in Catshill and are hungry or just need a drink, I couldn't recommend this place enough, thank you for making our pop in just a lovely experience

The roast dinners were just like mother made yummy, the deserts were awesome, the staff went out of the way to make us feel welcome and served the table well. Brilliant experience A cheese board was not available which is what my friend wanted, But Best time had

The customer service was really really good. The staff were all super friendly and I felt very welcomed. I had the sloppy joe burger and it was really tasty. The onion rings were wonderful as well. This is a great place for a low key meal.

Have used this pub on a number of occasions and always found excellent food, excellent ales, excellent, friendly staff, and excellent value for money, Why isn't this place more popular??

21.04.24 at 1pm Had a birthday dinner with friends and family we had 11 adults and 2 children. The staff helped me with my birthday cake and everyone loved it at the end. All the staff (forgotten your names sorry) but you were all fantastic very helpful and polite I would recommend to everyone to try them I will go again. Absolutely accommodating in every way. Food was georgouse very taste beautiful meals had by all. All I can say is big big thankyou to all the staff at the (royal oak) barlemow Lane catshill.

The food is amazing. There was 6 of us and all 6 meals and were perfect. Great portion sizes too. Both waiters were great. Especially Matthew. Very personable, welcoming & hard working. If we lived closer I would come back here every week.

14 members of Rag Dolls WI had lunch there on Wednesday. Staff were excellent and we all had a good laugh. Food well cooked, prepared and presented. Highly recomended.

Had an excellent Sunday lunch here. Had prawn cocktail starter which was lovely, turkey roast for dinner with sticky toffee pudding to finish. All beautifully cooked. Waiters were very pleasant. Thank you and definitely will return.

Went today for a Turkey roast dinner and it was absolutely perfect, loads on the plate and all homemade. Excellent value for money will definitely go again and highly recommended and the staff are so friendly And helpful

Went with my husband and daughter for mother's day. We all had the two course set menu which was excellent value for money. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and attentive. Although it was busy service was quick and we weren't hurried. Highly recommended.

Went Sunday 18 Feb 2024, had a great meal the staff were very pleasant especially the young lady I called the cinnamon girl, full marks to the chefs. A great afternoon out with the family!

There is no doubt that this chef cares about what he serves. The food is definately homemade and delicious, however i have never seen it busy. I think this is due to them being a little pricey. If you compare prices you will see it is more expensive than anywhere we go. I can see why because its all fresh and beautiful but i couldnt afford to go regulary. Shame :(

When we travel through Bromsgrove we usually eat at a steakhouse but last night it was full so I searched for a local pub and found the Royal Oak. What a lucky find! Very friendly staff and prompt service. The food was home cooked and very tasty, we both had a burger which was a good size and served with bacon, cheese, tomato and salad. Good sized portion of chips too. Very good value for money, will certainly eat here again.

Found this in Google Maps when the steakhouse we usually use when driving through Bromsgrove was full. What a good find: friendly prompt service, good home cooked food. Very good value for money, think we’ll be back!

There were 17 of us visiting for a family meal in honour of my dad. We decided to have this rather than the usual wake as he hadn’t wanted a funeral. We chose this pub because had Dad liked it. I’m glad we did. There was great email communication on the run up to the meal. All the meals were received well by all the diners. We ordered starters, mains and some puddings. Drinks too. It cost around £450 for us all and I think that was very reasonable! Pleasant atmosphere and staff. Would come again.

Jane was very welcoming and made us feel comfortable and got us everything that was needed, the food was delicious and good value for money would highly recommend this would be a place we would visit again.

Another perfect Sunday lunch... even offered a slightly smaller portion for my wife which allowed room for the chocolate fudge cake and 2 scoops ice cream... Absolutely couldn't fault it or the service and a very reasonable price at £12.99 pp . Even the choice of beers is spot on...Would highly recommend !

Friendly staff, good atmosphere 🤩

The pub was recommended by a work friend a few years ago, and we haven't really looked back since then. This is a first option for family meals and have returned many times. My mother opted to have a large family meal for her 60th birthday and the restaurant went all out to make sure everything was in hand prior to the meal. All pre-orders were taken, questions were answered and before the meal they double-checked peoples orders before bringing the food out. Following on from that, the food came out pretty quickly. Would highly recommend this place for any kind of meal, especially if you prefer independent places. Very friendly and accommodating staff and the prices are very fair. Also big shout out to Alex who handled the booking and ensuring everyone got the correct meal.

Very quiet when we went in but service was excellent wife enjoyed her scampi and I LOVED the special faggots and mash it was delicious will definitely be back again

Reasonably priced pub restaurant with good selection for children to eat. I ate a small fish and chips and it was huge!

We had booked a table for 6 on a Saturday afternoon for 1.45pm and arrived a little early but our table was ready. Two celiacs and one vegetarian in the party. The server brought a special folder out to identify which gluten free meals could be provided from the menu. Lovely food, attentive and freindly staff and a warm and lovely atmosphere made this daily gathering extra special. Thank you.

Just had a lovely family meal here. There were twenty of us. Jane and her staff were fantastic. The service was exceptional as were the meals. We had a variety of meals and the quality was really good. The staff were so organised and extremely friendly. We will be back. Thank you so much for making our family pre Christmas occasion memorable.

I've had issues with this establishment since day one but avoided saying much due to having friends employed there. We have had some awful meals here, they don't follow the law on weights and measures act, they don't display documents which they are legally required to do. They hire staff who harass underage girls who also work there, head chefs previously have been cocaine addicts and worked under the influence. I was verbally assaulted by a member of kitchen staff prior to a trial shift I was supposed to have there, I declined my trial shift after this and have not stepped foot back there since. Myself and my husband decided to pop in tonight for one final drink on his birthday to be informed we were barred, when we questioned this with the new supervisor who had not met us he cleared it up and said we could come back as long as I "didn't slate them on Facebook again" I have made comments about negative experiences I have had there which I am in my right to do but never have I made false accusations about the venue or staff. The response to a complaint should ALWAYS be a sorry and work to rectify it, not to bar a customer for being rightfully upset. From being regulars with good relationships with staff and other customers to feeling bullied, ignored and pushed out for falling victim to verbal attacks is appalling. To sum up, disgusting management, law breaking and bullying, no doubt I will be barred for this but good riddance, I'm happy to not step foot in here again. Sincerely, a fellow publican and license holder :)

What a great place! Looks tiny from the front, but well worth a visit. Loads of space in the dinning area. Staff were amazing, we were seated straight away and our food and drink were with us in no time. Which is pretty impressive considering they had a party of 40 in at the same time 10/10 everything was well cooked and piping hot, perfect pub grub! Kids pizza was a good size which made my son happy. Scampi was a good size portion and lasagne and chilly were very tasty and portions were generous. Topped off with a very reasonable bill. What more could you ask for?! Will definitely be visiting a lot more 😊

Good beer, but I must be getting old as the music is too loud! I had to shout my order at the barmaid 3 times before she understood what I wanted.

First time of eating here, but it won't be the last. Jane and the team here are friendly and helpful. The menu is extensive, my two companions had the steak pie,which they said was wonderful-melt in your mouth - and I had a generous portion of scampi and chips. We had 2 desserts, both were delicious. I did feel that a lighter weight lunch menu might be worth a try, as personally I prefer a smaller meal midday ( which is when we were there) and also, as a non- meat eater ,the vegetarian dishes were predictable (vegetable curry,lasagne,chilli) which I'm sure were very nice,but not my preference. However ,overall ,this was a great experience and I would definitely recommend !

Used for a wake, as 2 minutes down the road. Staff were excellent, and the buffet was great. Food just kept coming, so no one went without. Coped well with an invasion of 80 people, but most were watered within a short space of time. Main meals are plentiful and reasonably priced.
