Very busy but waitress was helpful and polite even though you could see they only had 2 waiting staff in a full restaurant

We have a daughter that has a dairy intolerance, so we made this clear when asked by the server and were directed to the website to be able to filter the food to ones safe for a dairy intolerance. This left one single meal that was dairy free. Firstly this is poor that there is only one option available. Upon ordering the server returned a few minutes later to tell us that one of their fryers wasn't working, so would it be ok to cook her food on the grill that they cook the haloumi on! Obviously this is not acceptable to cook the food for someone with a dairy intolerance on a grill that is used to cook cheese! They said that they could figure something else out and nothing more was said. She also had some garlic bread, which was listed on the menu as vegetarian and vegan, although she literally only had a nibble of this as the first one came out burnt to a crisp and the second one came out like it had been dipped in oil. Fast forward to later on that night and my daughter was very ill and was sick everywhere having eaten this food. This reaction was 100% caused by there being dairy in the food she ate, or from the food being in contact with dairy at some point in the kitchen. This is complete negligence from the restaurant to allow this to happen and could have resulted in a much more damaging outcome. I feel like your cooks and servers need to be immediately stood down and trained on food safety regarding allergens before someone gets seriously harmed.

Use the restaurant a lot food always good and the one lady waitress is amazing, in fact she keeps the place running, we eat there last week and table service was ( I’m assuming because the amazing waitress was not there) , was diabolical, we waited for food and drink a very long time, the manager did joke with us saying we were on the forgotten about table, how true we were forgotten and was having to go use the bar to get more drinks, we were wanting to order pudding and coffee but sat so long we decided against it, when we was ready to leave a good while after eating the plates was still on the table waiting to be cleared, at this point we made the decision to pay and leave, I brought up our disappointment with the manager, who was not very apologetic it was delivered in a very half hearted manner, he then said he would give us 30 per cent of the price of the bill, already having the 30per cent code to use he was not given us anything. Sad as I enjoy this restaurant but sadly due to the managers rude and poor manners and total lack of customer care I will be looking at other options.

Our server Aidan was great. They had lots of patience with our group and was very polite and well mannered.

The food is awesome. Very tasty. Ordered Stickey chicken - the smell is fantastic and taste is very good, hunters Chicken - very good taste, fries are very good, chicken tikka masala is also very tasty. Overall it's very tasty food.

Never again..... paid extra for the trio of meets and got less than my partner who had the cheaper version, also no roast potatoes ... just an apology. Pint of Ale £6.75 ..... amount of food poor ... actually went to the chip shop on my way home.

Myself and four friends from work had a warm welcome as per usual and the friendly service was continued throughout with the Landlady looking after us as we ordered each time plus all the female staff who served us as well. The food was excellent as always with myself having the Chicken and Mushroom Pie followed by the Cheesecake with Cherries of which were both delicious. My friends had a variety of things from the menu also of which like myself were all very impressed with how well presented and delicious everything they had was. We finished off the evening with most of us having Hot Chocolates before we retreated to the Bar for some Soft Drinks to finish off what was a perfect after work get together. We celebrated a family birthday on Friday evening, and sharon was fantastic! Attentive, friendly & organised. The food was absolutely gorgeous. We were a party of 10 and all the meals came out piping hot and together. Would highly recommend. We will be returning.

I'm alway's happy with the service & food here. We recently visited for a friend's birthday lunch & our waitress Claire was so lovely. I would highly recommend.

Took absolute ages for our drinks to come out. About 20 minutes. Seemed to be short staffed. So service could have been better. I ordered dessert at the bar as didn't want to wait another 20 minutes. Food was nice but nothing special. Big car park. Lovely style building. Staff were friendly. Good location.

Lovely service attentive and prompt. Sat down drinks ordered meals ordered within 10 mins or so. Starters arrived quickly and were lovely and nice quality. They were cleared and Mains arrived shortly after. My husband said his steak was cooked to perfection and her thoroughly enjoyed it. Mine was huge chicken burger and was delicious. My daughter cleared her plate and she’s a fussy eater.

The Hopwood was always my favourite place for a meal. We used to live opposite the Hopwood but had to move out of the area. I try to come back as often as I can and I was really looking forward to visiting on Sunday. We were going to tell our daughters that we are going to get married and was hoping for our usual amazing meal to do it over. But on arrival we were told that the frier had broken so there was no fish, there were no steaks so could not have that either, hence no mixed grill which is always a family favourite and the there was no beef for the beef diner. On top of that there was no cauliflower cheese even if we were to go for the chicken or pork Sunday lunch. Unfortunately we left as there was a limited choice and to honest ruined our special night of telling our daughters we are going to be married.

We went for Sunday dinner from the moment we walked in our needs were mer with a can do attitude. All the staff members were attentive and nothing was too much trouble. They greeted us with politeness and a smile. The food was outstanding presentation, taste and deliverance was exceptional. It was the best Sunday dinner out we have had in a long time.

Stopped off on a long journey as we were not keen on the nearby service station!! What a lovely find! The food was delicious, service was excellent! Definitely a good decision as it provided a proper break and a great meal!

We use the hopwood a lot my mom and her 84 year old best friend always really enjoy it, the regular staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. Good value food too

Service was good but had to return steak to the kitchen as it was rare/hardly heated through vs the medium ordered. Despite second attempt cooking it steak was still rare in middle. Others meals were good quality (and other steaks done correctly) so consistency in quality of food could be improved on.

Lovely food but men’s toilets were disappointing.

Came once before and was beautiful. This time terrible. Put on a tiny table in a really dull part of the restaurant so dull we struggled to read the menu. Didn't have the drinks we wanted and they was just standard drinks so was surprised I then ordered a extra sausage with my mixed grilled as I alway do ( and pay for ) only for the young lady to come back and tell me I had been refused an extra sausage. Food came out on the could side and my steak was rare not well done as I requested. Don't think we will return

As always a wonderful dining experience. The managers and waiting staff were so friendly, welcoming and attentive. The food was amazing and delicious and definitely well worth the cost. Plenty of room between tables so did not feel crowded and restaurant was very clean. We left feeling full and happy and will definitely be visiting again and rebooking for next year. Thank you all for a wonderful experience.

Went 23rd of December, relatively busy, really nice food, they stand out as they don’t just do usual pub stuff. Had the chicken and chorizo skewer, really flavourful. Enjoyed the halloumi fries too

The food was a real disappointment. My ribeye steak was tough and tasteless, and the chips were undercooked. My wife’s chicken pie was cold. The beer was very expensive, and frankly served in short measure! One bright spot was the service by Amy, who was bubbly, friendly and efficient.

We visited with good friends, we all enjoyed our meals and the service was very good.

It is extremely difficult to get the attention of the staff when you want something. It's also very frustrating to not get at least an acknowledgment at the bar when waiting to order as they go about doing drinks for tables or other activities. They seem to actively avoid eye contact. They often just walk right by to get glasses or drinks. It would be nice if they just said 'Be with you shortly' or something like that. Just some kind of acknowledgement that you're not invisible. It is the only real criticism I have and it happens every time we go there. I have on occasion witnessed staff using the glass to get ice instead of the utensils provided. When service is provided, it's friendly enough and efficient. On the whole the food we have had has been very enjoyable however, the garlic bread is a huge miss. The one that came with the lasagne. Very poor. Just a roll with a few burnt bits crumbled on top. If garlic bread is advertised, please provide garlic bread.

I attended in December for a works Christmas Lunch booked for 20 people. When I initially booked the table, I contacted the pub and sent over a pre-order for each person which needed to be amended a few times and on each occasion the staff quickly confirmed receipt of the changes. On the day of the meal, we were seated in our own area and all courses were served quickly but not rushed. There was not a single error on any of the dishes served and the food itself was served hot and delicious. Honestly could not find any fault in the whole experience. Would definitely recommend and will definitely return!

We were a party of thirteen, food was lovely, piping hot. Waiting staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. This was our second Christmas meal with you. See you in December 2024 for a re-run.

I used to enjoy visiting this place many years ago, but I think it's lost its sparkle. Uninspiring menu, so I had scampi and chips. Cooked fine but difficult to get wrong. In my opinion this place is okay to have a drink in but if you want an interesting menu to choose from then don't go. Left feeling very disappointed.

Busy, busy, busy! Obviously, a very popular pub! Staff were polite, service was quick and efficient, food was hot and good.. A place to eat if you're pushed for time perhaps, rather than a lingering visit..

Sat in bar area as we hadnt booked for restaurant. There was 4 Tables FULL of dirty plates and glasses .Asked a member of staff if someone could clear a table for us. Another member of staff crawled over at a snails pace about 5 minutes of waiting and took 2 plates off 1 of the tables .Glasses and cutlery left .Table not wiped or any of the orhers cleared .Ended up cleaning our selves. There were other people complaining too. Mentioned it to the person I originally spoke ,telling them how tables weren't cleared and had done it our selves and that we wasn't impressed with how dirty it all was. He was totally dismissive. The only plus side was the bar man who was efficient and pleasant. WONT !!! be going back in hurry NOT the first time disappointed 😕

Booked table for 7 for 8pm to 10:30pm arrived just before 8pm and told kitchen closed at 8pm no mention on website so rushed food order.had food and paid bill went to bar for drinks asked for more drinks at 9:45 and told bar closed at 9:30pm.seemed to prefer catering for customers who weren’t there as opposed to customers who were there so having used the pub for a number of years we will now go elsewhere.

We were greeted by a lovely staff member who very thoughtfully said you've been allocated this table but it may be a little drafty as it's a cold night...she took us to another table which was fabulous and by a radiator! We had drinks which arrived promptly and within no time we were given menus and our food was ordered. My friend Tina chose the gammon and i ordered the special chicken with red peppers and chorizo. They were both very descent portions, nice and hot and delicious, also beautifully presented...condiments were offered ...it really was lovely...We were offered the desert menus but declined as were so full although we did have coffees, again they were bought to our table quickly and were nice large cups! The bill was paid with a 30% discount added that I'd had sent to my email...absolutely fabulous...couldn't fault any of our evening ...it was a lovely homely experience, with first class service, we plan to return again soon with our families! Good food, efficient service and friendly staff. We had a very good time.

Firstly we ordered drinks,and was told a bottle of wine was £16,when we got the bill it was just under £19. When our food came it was brought out in delayed stages.first our scampi/ chips and 5 minutes later our salad. Our friends got theres a good 5 minutes before ours.We were offered no condiments....and the scampi was a little hard. Puddings were very expensive with tiny portions., not worth £6.50 for a banoffo pudding and that was the size slightly bigger than a scoop of ice cream.

Updated following second visit. My meal was was awful; sirloin steak was the worst quality meat I've ever encountered. Tough and flavourless and very badly cooked. The fruit crumble was shockingly bad too. How can apple and cherry fruits be made to taste of nothing? So disappointed. The scoop of vanilla ice cream was the only nice thing out of a 2 course, (& not cheap dinner out), I enjoyed, and I'm not a picky eater! With food this inconsistent, I would not go back. Friendly staff. Shame.

We booked an area of the pub for 22 guests (birthday party) for 6.30pm and were assured that despite the numbers, no pre-orders were required. On our arrival we were met by Amy who was incredibly friendly and welcoming even offering to assist with the various decorations we had brought with us. On arrival of the guests we had plenty of time to chat and sort ourselves out with enough space to be seated comfortably. On ordering, the food arrived in good time and eveybody I spoke to on the subject was impressed with the quality and quantity of the food which was hot and tasty. One thing that does need to be addressed is that the chain advertises itself as dog friendly however enquiries made by a guest of the staff revealed that they were not allowed to bring their 8 week old puppy along. Overall an excellent venue with a lovely ambience and tremendous staff. Will definitely visit again

Tried this place for the first time for a quick lunch. It's a large pub which is quite welcoming and well decorated and maintained. The service was very good and as quick as you'd like. Somewhat surprised about some of the rave reviews about the quality of the food, as it's fairly standard pub quality. There are some pubs that serve first class food, this isn't one of them. It does of course depend on what you're accustomed to. My wife ordered a sweet with cream but, looking at the "cream" as it dissolved infront of our eyes, it clearly came out of a can. If this is what you like to eat, and you enjoy basic fare, well cooked and presented, then you'll probably enjoy a meal here.

Lovely pub. Excellent service and meals

After 6 months without a catchup my best friend & myself decided to find somewhere a little more special to meet up than our usual haunts. Having checked the menu, there was no disputing this was the place for us. With diary requirements always a concern when picking somewhere to eat, the menu here was perfect. A lot of choice and very appealing. Our request was met and we were greeted warmly and sat in the perfect place. The interior of the pub is also a warm one. The decor and furnishings definitely make you feel comfortable to the point you don't really want to leave. The staff seem very professional and helpful and not once did we feel we were being rushed to hurry our eating experience which meant we could make our long overdue catchup one to remember. The food was spot on, cooked and presented nicely ! The cost about average, although not as expensive as some places we've eaten at. Will definitely visit more often and will highly recommend to anyone looking for somewhere descent to eat at. Can't really fault our experience at all.

Racially profiled - my mother took money out of the cash point to treat us and when we were paying they kept looking at us, allegedly they had received a number of “fake” £50 notes - I asked the lady if she used a pen etc and she said no, no establishment that handles money should not have this available and would actually help with their issues, I will be discussing this experience on social media but we will not be returning JUST TO ADD - if they DO NOT take £50, they would of not TAKEN the bill and stated it there so again, white people trying to gaslight black people to get away with racism

NO DOGS ALLOWED INSIDE. Having been here before and having no issues we have chosen to book here for an upcoming family meal. Having heard mixed information about if dogs are allowed or not I decided to call the pub to check. Despite their website advertising that they are dog friendly I have been told today that due to a manager having allergies they will now turn away dogs. This is very disappointing, especially given that the website still states dog are welcome. Their loss, I’ll take my money and my dog elsewhere.

I was part of a very large group (24 customers) who had a table booked for 7pm on Saturday night for a 50th birthday celebration. We started to gather around the bar from around 6.30. Our reserved tables were still occupied by other guests but this was no problem at all, we had some drinks and waited for everyone to arrive. At 7pm our tables were ready so we started to decide who was sitting where and headed to our tables. At this point a man appeared who I presume may have been the manager, he was clutching a pen and paper following us around and demanding to take our food orders “because the chefs need to go home” I am sorry but we were collectively spending a lot of money on food and drinks and didn’t not appreciate someone standing over our shoulders at 7.10 asking what we were eating before we were even all seated. I have worked many years in hospitality and I can appreciate a large table can be stressful to manage but we were given no time at all to settle and look at the menu. Why tell us the chef wants to go home?! Why is that our issue? If you were short staffed then have a polite word asking if we don’t mind trying to get our orders in quickly cos you are a chef down. There is a nicer way to word things instead of glaring at us waving a pad and pen making us feel like we were an inconvenience. The drinks service was great, the food came out quickly and was hot and well prepared as usual and the rest of the staff were lovely and friendly. I just feel the need to leave a review about feeling harassed into hurrying up our food order when the place wasn’t that busy and it’s totally normal to give people at least 20 minutes to find our seats and look at the menu without someone hovering over our shoulders asking what we wanted all the time. Shame really cos it was a lovely evening and a great venue for a get together apart from that.

This is a lovely oub- we had booked for 5 of us and I had a 30% discount on mains. We were greeted by a lovely lady who showed us to our table. She was great and had a good rapport with us. Our order for drinks was taken and we ordered our food soon after. 3 lots if gammon, one hunters chicken and one of our group had a starter with some chips as a main. Cost was about £14 a head with the discount- fantastic value. We are all quite old but managed the steps at the side of the pub. We had used the disabled spaces at the back of the pub. A very large car park. This is a pub that we will return to soon. It is so pleasant- easily accessible near Hopwood services on the M42. It is also close to the canal and I think it would be great for a walk and a pub visit. A lovely pub with atmosphere.
