A busy Saturday night (which should not come as a surprise) meal with friends. Food was ok, calamari starter was a little over done and rubbery. Mains went fairly well, however the burgers were a little over cooked, and the french fries were very oily/difficult to eat. Service was ok if you like to be left alone, but having to ask twice or even three times for extra drinks and be left without was quite poor. Even towards the end of the evening, after the place had emptied it was difficult to catch anyone's attention for coffees and ultimately the bill. We ended up paying at the bar so we could leave. We've been before and had a totally different (very positive) experience, so hoping it was just an off night with being so busy.

Didn’t even get through the door as we had a dog which stated on the website dogs welcome, needs to be changed, also I had made a reservation which stated we had a dog nobody called to tell us that dogs weren’t allowed inside. WILL NOT RETURN man was also aggressive towards us & didnt initially apologise!

Website says dogs allowed in the bar as well as outside but they are not allowed inside at all! Need to update your website!

Excellent customer service, very clean and tidy, food and drink orders came quickly and piping hot. Not one member of our party had any complaints. I will book to visit again

Dealt with allergens really well and have me so much confidence in ordering. Shaz is superb as well! Easy access from the canal, with mooring both sides of the bridge

Another evening meal at the Hopwood House. Greeted at the check in desk and order taken by Karl, as always he was efficient, polite and with a friendly cheerful welcome. We had steak & ale pie, mash and veg & scampi but swapped out chips/ peas for salad & slaw. Both lots of food were lovely. It was very busy but no delay in order being taken and delivered. Thank you

Had lunch at the Hopwood yesterday. Easy to find, large car park. Plenty of room at the table, great main menu to choose from plus lighter menu and specials menu if you still needed more options. Had mains and puddings, followed by coffee. All meals were delicious, well cooked/presented with good size portions. Would definitely eat here again.

First time eating here and the food was fabulous, Tia was lovely and really added to our experience. I hope to see similar faces next time.

Had a lovely Sunday evening here on 8/9. The food was excellent and plentiful and our party of 4 enjoyed it. Nice atmosphere and quite busy but excellent service all round from the very friendly staff and especially Amy who was our table server and was really helpful. Will be back.

Lovely meal but asked for the roast beef. Told it was not available at 4.35 pm but table after us asked for this and no problem. Were served it ????

Amy was amazing. Spot on server, on the ball with our group of 16 that arrived. She took our drink and food orders quickly, she was lovely and polite and she sorted the payments out without a glitch! Absolutely spot on!

Bright and airy location. Easy to park and very clean. Friendly helpful staff. Have eaten here before and will do so again.

Fantastic pub with really lovely grounds. All of the food was of a really great quality. Not cheap but definitely worth the cost!

Busy pub, popular with locals. Unfortunately on the evening we went, they were very busy and had an event on so we waited a while for a table. The table we got had not been cleared so we had to ask the staff politely to clear it, but it was only partly cleared and not wiped down, no apology. Menu had good choice of dishes but some had run out. The food was quite nice. One of the bar staff was quite rude and unhelpful. This happened a couple of times that evening, not sure if he was just overwhelmed with it being so busy or whether he just took a dislike to us, but quite unusual to encounter this kind of hostility. We may just have been unlucky that it was such a busy night, but it did spoil the evening really.

There was 18 of us for my birthday meal, it was amazing service all the food cane out almost all together, and served with a smile from the lovely young girl. Great place, will be there again.

Wonderful. Service was really good and food was fantastic. My son chose the very hot chicken wings and they kindly gave him milk after. Our waiter was amazing.

We were here before with my sister and husband. We are again over on holiday from Northern Ireland and we remembered the Hopwood and decided to book. As before we were not disappointed. Friendly waitress (Erin) , great food, pleasant atmosphere. Will be back as soon as we can. Thanks guys x

Went to hopwood today to be met by the most misable possible manager so rude. Wont be going in there again

We use the hopwood a lot my mom and her 84 year old best friend always really enjoy it, the regular staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. Good value food too

Disappointed in our first visit here. We recently moved to the area and we were looking forward to visiting. I checked the website in advance - which clearly states “we gladly allow dogs in our bar and beer garden” and “ “We invite you to bring your furry friends to join you on your next visit to The Hopwood House in Birmingham. We love to see the whole family” but were told on arrival that dogs were now allowed inside due to a staff member having an allergy and we had to sit in the patio area for food service. I appreciate this cannot be helped and you have a duty of care to the staff, but please update the website to reflect this, as it is very disappointing to have to sit outside when you were not expecting to have to do so. A pub cannot be considered dog friendly if you have to sit outside. It looks like this has been the case for a while, having since read more reviews after my visit. It should not take weeks to update a website. The food was fine and we had a voucher for 30% off, so made it seem good value. The staff were friendly enough too. Because we had to sit on the patio for food service, we were right beside the children’s play area where we had to listen to children screaming and playing in the playground when we were trying to have a conversation. The pub looked nice inside, but we are unlikely to come back as there are plenty of other local pubs that don’t make us sit in a playground with our dog to enjoy a meal.

The Hopwood House venue is stylish, beautifully decorated with a warm and welcoming feel. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the food and drink on offer. The food is excellent with a fantastic range to choose from. I would highly recommend dining or drinks at Hopwood House. Kat, who served us yesterday was great - she was friendly, helpful, gave us advice on our food and drink choices and checked in on us regularly. Thanks so much for a wonderful family dining experience.

We had a lovely unplanned last minute lunch date. Had the two courses for £15 and the food was absolutely delicious. Simple meals elevated in taste and presentation that match the vibe of the venue. Looking forward to our next visit

Excellent pub food, generous portions with friendly service. Love the setting and the comfortable interiors - well designed and laid out to be sophisticated yet relaxed. Go for a walk along the canal beside it and then eat. They also don't include service compulsorily so tip at the end if desired! Worth a repeat visit!

Nice food, but I feel it was fairly overpriced particularly for the portion sizes.

Met family there for lunch today,nice place,always busy .Welcomed on arrival and shown to our booked table.Very friendly staff,good service,good choice on menu,2 or 3 course special offers.Food was good ,good portions and didnt wait long at all,we all had 2 courses off specials menu and soft drinks.Have been a few times now and always happy with food,service etc.

Had really looked forward to having a Sunday roast only to arrive to be told had sold out and half the menu was off as a brake down with a fryer so not a lot to choose from but will say the meals we chose where not too bad and the sweets where good . service was top marks couldn't fault it yes it was a shame didn't get my Sunday roast but there are other Sundays will just book a table early next time and there will be another time would recommend the hopwood with a full menu or not

Hopwood house amazing staff service and food clean and bright

Second time visiting hopwood, didn’t disappoint once again. Food came out quick and was great. Staff was very welcoming, fantastic service from all the staff members but especially Tia who went above and beyond to ensure that I was well looked after in my visit. Will definitely be coming back for a third time.

We visited this pub while travelling past on a canal holiday specifically as it clearly state on its website that it welcomes dogs in the bar. We arrived to be told by what appeared to be the bar manager in quite a brusque tone that dogs were not allowed. He did not point out that we could eat in the garden and it was only when asked if we could go there that he said yes. As it wasn’t cold we opted for that and then returned to the bar to order food. After serving one customer before us he then walked away to collect glasses and to enter information onto a different computer terminal away from the bar without any acknowledgement of our presence. Finally he returned and we placed our food order and ordered drinks which we then paid for , after which to be told that the main brewery bitter had run out. We chose again, not knowing if we’d been overcharged. The entire communication was surly and in what from the outside appears to be a professionally run pub I was surprised to be addressed as ‘mate’. 2stars as the food was ok and the serving staff pleasant. This goes to show that when reading reviews always look at the bad reviews first as virtually all my issues have been reported by previous diners. I appreciated that he mentioned that ‘staff’ were allergic to dogs and this is stated in various reviews, and that apparently the pub had asked for the ‘dog friendly in the bar’ to be changed but it hasn’t and therefore the pub is misrepresenting itself which may be an issue for trading standards. It also raises the question of why we were not asked if we had any food allergies prior to ordering. A long review of a pub in which the food was ok but the attitude to customers and welcome was far from good.

Went with friends for lunch and it was fine. Would definitely use again.

We had a fantastic evening at the Hopwood House celebrating our daughter’s A Level results with extended family. From the moment we arrived the staff were helpful and attentive, but not overly so. Our waitress Jess was lovely! All seven of us enjoyed our meals (we all chose differently). We’ll definitely be back very soon, thank you!

Great food and customer service

First time I had been for a few years, food was good, not a lot of vegetarian options but I enjoyed what I had, erin was a good waitress, we got our drinks quickly, we were seated by the window and that was much appreciated as it was a warm evening

Lovely food in a clean and comfortable surroundings. Our server Erin was welcoming, friendly and attentive.

Food is always great with a good choice of beers. Website states doga are welcomed but recently refused entry as a couple of staff members have allergies. Please update the website to prevent others from being disappointed as we had a wasted visit and were unable to use our voucher.

Awesome service. Hearty food generous portions. I can recommend the Brooklyn pilsner and mixed grill. Jess looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. I will return. Many thanks.

Had an amazing meal here for my friends birthday, we all traveled down to see them from Manchester and the food was immaculate. Huge shout out to the blue haired chef, incredibly friendly and although our group had some rather picky requirements nothing was an issue for her! Absolutely wonderful night and beautiful presentation. Big thanks to the staff and especially the chef to whom I’m sure we made their night a living hell but they didn’t seem to mind, and understood our dietary restrictions.

First visit, we were looked after so well, I think if we had asked for the moon, Sharon would have got it! Food was fab and we did not have to wait for it. We were given time to enjoy our food, no one was rushing us! We will be back. Big thank you to all the staff!

The Hopwood is my favourite place to eat. Never had a bad meal and the standard is top draw. They are always polite and attentive. The standard of the food is the same every time you go in. I would recommend The Hopwood to everyone.

Really good sirloin steak, and the sea bass is always great..also very accommodating with a cake for birthday celebration..

Not the Best over £330 spent with voucher come on- Been loads of times, however this visit not up to their usual standard. Service - this was not the best, server made various mistakes with orders or not taking down orders correctly, had to wait sometime for plates to be cleared, and no up selling when it came to drinks. Food - not to standard we've been here many times food has always been fabulous. None of the food came at a pace by where we could eat together some had finished starters by time some got theirs. Mains was really disappointing salad was flipping soggy lettuce not even a bloody tomato or cucumber in sight come on Hopwood, crispy chicken soggy chicken more like. Some of the party asked for chunky chips got flipping fries wt*. We asked about the salad we're told that it was the brewery who had made changes regarding salad, ok I will email them as well. Atmosphere- good 5 stars for that. Overall- really disappointing not sure if would go back anymore, which is such a shame

Met our grandson last night he was taking us out for meal .We sat in garden.we are in late 70 .I went in to get menus one of staff with beard reached over unpolitley said not that one finished you need that one as now about 6-30 Grandson ordered fish chips for him Sea bass for my husband and gammon for me .San Miguel Rum Coke Soda lime .Way over priced fish way over cooked.Sea bass way over cooked and grotty potato under neath.My gammon no way value probably worth half .Then to add insult to evening our son daughter in law joined us on ordering told not out side .As they wished to sit with us just ordered glass white wine and San Miguel. Glass warm white wine 9-50 outrageous.We Spent a great deal of money.for overpriced food drink and they staff member with beard came out reached over took our plates not a word have you finished or o dear did you have a problem with food as my husband had eaten almost nothing.As he was very rudely moving away I tried to explain re meal He just walked away not a word .To sum up experience very very disappointed overpriced food drink.Would not go again .Our average meal price 18 pounds Drinks 9-50 glass warm cheap wine ☹️Grandson paid quess over 100 pounds 3 meals and drink.

Food was great, but the service was diabolical. Had to keep asking someone to come to the table. Wouldn't recommend at all. Took ages for the food to come. Had to keep going up to the bar. Drinks were very pricey too. No disabled access, even though the sign points where to go, but there are steps.

Very ordinary pub food in this large busy canalside place. The pies were soggy and the veg overcooked.

Menu has changed since last here. Disappointed they don't now do the 2 courses for £10. Also the pie oven not working so couldn't take advantage of pie and free pudding offer. Service excellent and staff lovely.

Some medical conditions you cant ear heavy foods. Dont do easy swallow foods like omlettes.
