Here’s a food review based on your details: The dining experience here was exceptional from start to finish. The owners were brilliant, genuinely welcoming, and provided top-notch service. We requested our food to be delivered precisely at 6 pm, and they didn’t disappoint—it arrived right on time, perfectly warm and ready to enjoy. We ordered a selection of dishes that truly highlighted the kitchen’s mastery of flavor. The chicken tikka masala was rich and creamy, with tender chicken pieces that melted in your mouth. The chicken balti had just the right amount of spice, bringing a bold and aromatic kick, while the keema rice paired wonderfully with both mains, adding another layer of fragrant flavor. The garlic naan was soft, pillowy, and perfectly seasoned, ideal for scooping up every last bit of sauce. But the real star was the mint yogurt—a stunning homemade addition that elevated each dish with its refreshing, cooling touch. It was clear that a lot of care went into crafting each component of the meal. Overall, this meal was a delight, with exceptional service to match. If you’re looking for a satisfying, flavorful dining experience with flawless timing, this spot is a must-try.

**UPDATE June 2021** Sadly, Pete the proprietor passed away recently. A top bloke! both he and the Wayfarers will be sorely missed. At the time of writing there is no information as to the future of the cafe. RIP Mate. My original review One of the longest running roadside Cafes in Newport . top grub (steak pie with suet pastry is to die for!) Curry special on Fridays. Superb breakfasts / brunches too. Highly recommended.

Wanted a bacon sandwich, but they didn't have any bacon or mushrooms, so we settled for a sausage sandwich and coffee. We sat down and when we looked around the overall condition of the place was disgusting. How they can sell food in those conditions. The council should close them down.Absolutely disgusting!!

Not very good breakfast. Greesy I felt sick in my stomach. The place is stinking rotten.. Wish I had looked around properly before eating. There was washing powder put on saltfloor to stop the chef from sliping. The chef has a lovely charictor about him. I think it needs to be revisited by inspectors. If it was cleaned up it be a lovely place.

A proper full breakfast is always available! It's a decent cafe with no pretentiousness you find in some places! Beats wetherspoons breakfast attempts hands down! As for "rats droppings in food" as mentioned lower down the reviews......for gods sake!? Get real!!! I have known this of this cafe for 20+ years & never had a bad meal there! Testement in itself really! If you want whistles, bells & folded napkins with flowers on tables, go into town. If you want a nice cooked breakfast, go to the wafes!

My boyfriend grew up in Newport and has memories of eating at the cafe with his parents. The cafe has been ran by the same family for generations. My boyfriend can remember Pete's dad playing cards and smoking cigars in the corner. The cafe is a typical British 'greasy spoon'. An old cash register sits in the corner, one menu is displayed on the wall and a small fridge for the cold drinks sits on a counter. Upon arrival we received a very warm welcome from Pete. I had bacon rashers(x2),sausages(x2),chips,beans and fried eggs(x2) with a mug of coffee. My boyfriend had a typical large English breakfast and a can of coke. We both enjoyed our meals and for £10 I thought it was excellent value! Great customer service and lovely food. However the cafe could do with a deep clean. I have seen Pete wipe the tables with anti bacterial spray but the floor is very greasy!

We had the large breakfast which we thoroughly enjoyed..excellent value at £5.00 each which included a tea for me and a coffee for him. Yes the decor could do with an update but if you're looking for a tasty full English served by two friendly hosts you won't be disappointed.

Called in for a breakfast the food is well cooked and great value for what you pay. The service was also great. The tables and chairs are very basic but I thought it was clean. We will go back at some time as it was good food with great service and great value for money.

I agree with other reviews that this is a traditional greasy spoon. Dont look for sophistication. There is a basic menu at a very cheap price composed of cheap ingredients. The largest breakfast on offer composed of 4 slices of bacon, 4 sausages, 4 eggs plus the trimmings. For a good cheap breakfast this is the place to be. Some parking is available on the road outside. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed

Yes - the food is what's important and Peter knows exactly what he's doing! You could pay far more elsewhere and still not get such a good meal. And it's a Cafe for goodness sake! Not the Savoy! Leave your ball gown and expectations of sumptuous surroundings at home and give it a try. Curry day Friday!
