Best roast I've had in ages. Super yummy and such good value. The staff were so friendly and helpful.

Great food and great location, too. The only thing was it was a little cold inside. Apart from that, it's perfect.

Ì was searching on Google for new place to have breakfast and found this. It has good reviews so tried it out. I wasn't disappointed. I like the place. Its cosy. I like the food and i want to try the others on the menu.

We went for breakfast on a Saturday morning so it was very busy. A table become free so we waited for it to be cleared before sitting down. It was eventually cleared but not cleaned so we had to clean it ourselves. We then waited about twenty minutes to be served and weren't so tried to order on the app which said the venue was closed. I then went up to the bar to order and asked why the app wasn't working. The staff member said sometimes the venue will turn the app off if it's really busy to encourage people to come up to the bar to order. It didn't make a lot of sense to me and seemed a bit counter-intuitive but I went with it. We ordered two waffles and wanted a few extra bits on the side like sausages and eggs and the staff member seemed very confused by this. She asked if we wanted the extra bits on a third plate and I explained twice that we just wanted them added to the same plates as the waffles. The food arrived and yep, the extra bits were on their own plate. It didn't really matter but it was just frustrating that I had to explain something relatively simple twice and then it still wasn't understood. The eggs were a bit runny and the bacon a bit under-done which was disappointing after the effort we went through to order in the first place. I would be very hesitant to visit this place again for food although I do realise they might have just been having a bad day. Anyway, when it comes to reviewing, you review on the experience you had so this is unfortunate! Overall, disappointed by the whole experience.

This place is a bit pricey based on the food they deliver. £4.95 for a sausage or bacon sandwich which when served is about as basic as you can get, is nit great value for me. I had a tea which was £2.50 and tasteless, lukewarm and got sent back. The staff are a bit wayward too. All drinking coffee behind the counter. The coffee I changed my tea for was also not great. Not a wonderful spot to be fair.

I asked for no beans on the breakfast but for beans Apart from that all good

Came here today after looking online for cooked breakfast reviews looked good. Plus sons 19th so had to fill his belly before he went out lol. Great food with great portion size. Waffles are a must try in this place. Lovely. Service was excellent throughout as well. Thank you to the staff. :-)

Don’t go here if you have any allergies as they don’t listen. My grandson is dairy intolerant and we ordered oat milk for his drink and they served us semi skimmed milk. He immediately vomitted after one small sip and the staff were no help at all and didn’t see the severity of what could have happened to my grandson had his mother not acting swiftly with his medication. They were more concerned about blaming one another for the error and it seems the manager was more concerned about letting the owner know of the incident rather than help my daughter. This is shocking and could have had very serious consequences “sorry” isn’t good enough.

Ladies toilet not in use, mens was dirty, holes in the wall, not well kept staff unfriendly, definitely not service with a smile. Coffee was warm at best

To start with, the place is beautifully decorated. Aesthetically so cozy!! Very reasonably priced and delicious. Loving the festive menu, adore the staff, perfect little date night spot. Definitely going back!

Hidden gem! Me and my partner visited today and had food it was amazing! Service was great, staff are very friendly and made us feel very welcomed. I’ve lived in Newport most of my life and never knew about this place, will definitely be returning

Delicious food at great prices. Friendly service and plenty of choice. Two of our group had the Angus burgers and, while I'm not a vegetarian, I opted for the Singapore noodles, which were absolutely delicious (and only £8.50). Sadly, it wasn't the weather for sitting outside today, but we've done that in the past - it's a nice spot for looking across the river towards the city.

The coffee was very tasty, but could have been hotter.

Went for breakfast on Sunday with a friend, ge had full I had the halloumi avocado on sourdough toast with poached egg, both were excellent fresh cooked and good value for money. Excellent variety on menu.

A kind and helpful barista called Alex made myself and my daughter the best hot chocolate she's ever had. Will be sure to return

Enjoyed a pint and a tasty Angus burger before the match on Friday evening. Good service and tasty food. I highly recommend Hortons.

Firstly got the drinks order wrong which needed to be returned. Ordered bacon sandwich and full English breakfast. Bacon sandwich was just fat with literally no bacon. Fair to say our dog did ok. Breakfast first impression was that the bacon and sausages looked like they had been cooked a few times blackened at the bottom of a fire. Bacon was creasy and Beans were lukewarm. After two mouthfuls everything was returned and we gave up. Hadn't eaten here for a while so not sure what's changed but it's not like it use to be. Staff are friendly enough getting the dog some treats but the food was really bad.

Arrived 09.10, 3 staff behind counter chatting about their Saturday night. Told to take a seat and someone would come and serve us, no other customers present. 5 mins later 4 young lads arrived who were clearly known to the staff. They were immediately served. Another couple then arrived and sat close to counter. 4 young lads drinks were then served and minutes later so were the young couple’s 17 minutes after arriving we had not been approached even though we were in clear view of all staff behind counter. On leaving, the staff just chuckled to themselves. Prices looked high too. One to avoid!

Really lovely vibe, friendly staff and a robust selection of hot and cold, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and hot and cold foods. I regularly come here to read, relax or do work!

Half the items on the menu weren’t available then waited over half an hour and paid £8 for a lukewarm breakfast sandwich with plastic cheese.. I could have just gone to McDonald’s and had a coke and fries with it for less! 🤢

Good food, we especially liked the battered prawns on the tapas type menu and the falafel fries. The staff however really were rubbish. I felt like they were hungover and not at all on it.

Food seemed good, but greasy, the all day breakfast reminded me of a greasy spoon to be fair. The coffee was very nice and a total opposite to the food offer, I did find as the restaurant was not busy (it was a Monday early evening) and that staff members were lulling around at the serving area with their friends on their phones, doesn’t make a customer feel welcome. The restaurant is pet friendly and I witnessed a lady enter the premises and ask for a sausage for her dog, not being a dog owner myself thought this was odd, but in a good way. I will return..

All I asked for was chips and although it was ready the lazy staff wouldn’t give the chips and made me wait for 20 minutes, An average chip takes maximum 6 minutes whereas it took them more than 20 minutes, I do not recommend this place, Go to Grill and Bake, It is Amazing!

Went today food was ok .the staff are lovely especially miriam who had to deal with a customer who collapsed, was a very stressful situation for her but she dealt with it well under the circumstances welldone for staying so calm you are a great asset hortons

I would love to say that I really like Hortons This is my second visit for Sunday breakfast and I enjoy the atmosphere and the selection of food on offer for breakfast However on both occasions I encountered 45 minutes plus delay to receive my food order Whilst the management apologised I need to think carefully if I can wait for 45 minutes for food on a Sunday morning when there are other commitments The food when served was nice but timely service needs to improve.

Love coming to this place for coffee, love the fact that I can bring my dog with me so it's great for a place to go whilst walking the dog. The staff are wonderful with your dog giving them treats and smooths

Food and coffee here was good although my girlfriend was given a standard breakfast rather than the vegan one which had been ordered. Strange that something ordered via an app can be got so wrong. Staff did apologise but it felt a bit flat, and saying "you look repulsed by that" when taking the incorrect breakfast away was quite a weird thing to say. Also dissapointing that we had already given a 15% tip when ordering which we might not had if we'd known!

Wow...what a disappointment. The worst experience I've ever had in Horton's. Usually a very friendly place with excellent food. Today was difference, miserable staff who aren't interested and the food was awful. I ordered fish and chips... The fish was soggy, swimming in a pool of grease on the plate, missing peas and tartare as advertised. The chips were covered in what tasted like oregano, this was not advertised a. My husband had loaded fries that he said were ok but nothing better than you'd get on a burger van. No staff even asked how our food is. Overall very disappointing.

Coffee could be better, but probably one of the best coffee shops in the central Newport.

Had a lovely big breakfast and coffee. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was delicious. Nice walk over the bridge to cross the river to get to this place from the main street but was worth it. Oreo shake to take away was great too. Very generous portions of food, coffee and milkshake.

Have been popping in here for drinks for sometime now food always looked decent so thought i'd give it a go for a birthday meal with the family. Ten of us ate everyone enjoyed their food and prices were reasonable , staff very friendly and great service , chef introduced himself seemed a nice fella who was interested if everyone enjoyed their meals. Everyone did. Will definitely return and sure some of the family will too. Cheers!

Very slow service. Unable to follow simple instruction of serving hot drinks WITH food Terrible customer service and with a couldn't care less attitude. When complained to Manager, was asked to leave and was threatened with the Police. Manager was still in nappies with absolutely no idea of what customer service is. Avoid this place!!!!

Delicious food, decent temperature on hot drinks and very fresh hot food. Varied and interesting menu, really appetising. However service was painfully slow, but food and drinks served were excellent quality, so would go bk again when less busy.

Came in for a coffee on an admittedly busy day. Manager was clearly stressed as there were a number of wrong orders and refunds to process from the long wait. While we were waiting, heard him saying that the customers were to blame for not understanding they’ll have to wait over half an hour for coffee. Probably not one to say while at the counter on a busy service with paying customers stood in front of you. Considering small businesses are at risk given the current climate, we’re doing our best to support you - Try not to insult us and ruin a good thing.

After a recommendation from one of our party, who ate there on the regular - we decided to pop in for a bite to eat and a drink. One of the first tables in, going in minutes after they opened we were happy with the initial service. Orders were taken promptly, and told to pay upfront as they didn’t offer a tab. 30 minutes later, no sign of our drinks so one of our party went to ask our server - who was shocked and went to investigate. A further 10 minutes and No answer so we asked someone who seemed to be the manager who came over and explained the ticket had gone missing but they’ll get our drinks now. After spending years in both hospitality management and running restaurants I understand these things happen so we waited. A further 20 minutes and still no sign. At this point, with a young child we felt we had waited long enough so asked for a refund. Food then came out (still no sign of our drinks) to which we explained we were getting a refund , but if they wanted to give them away to us we would take them away. The manageress then came back over, with an attitude, stating that “the food is waiting for you now”. We were then ushered towards the bar and left for a further 10 minutes with no explanation of the next steps. The gent sorting the refunds was polite, friendly and apologised. On departure, one of the party wished the manager a good day, which was ignored. I understand it was very busy, but customer service is simple, and we would have been understanding. Will not be returning again.

We visited Hortons last Sunday . The cafe was not busy however, the service is poor , we had to chase to get and order taken and in the end came inside as asking to place and order outside twice seemed to fall on deaf ears . The menus are also really poor , they are unclear and pricing is all over the place and tbh , my biggest bugbear , if your going to charge high prices , show them . We ordered three waffles which transpired to be over £10 each , a couple of Frappes in plastic cups which were not caramel and had to be changed and a salted caramel mocha which was not great. The waffles were ok nothing special , but when three waffles , two frappes and a coffee costs you £60 . Thats an issue when your not declaring prices. We paid £57 for a meal at TGI fridays on Saturday and this was no Fridays experience. So in summary, the waffles are ok , the coffees and frappes er no . But the service and pricing lets this Cafe down badly. In short , we will not be returning. And I would recommend absolutely 💯 double check the prices ( if you can find a member of staff willing to serve you ).

Avoid unless you fancy dicing with the chance of food poisoning. 5 hungry ladies booked and visited last night, was a complete disaster. The chicken tikka wrap was delivered stone cold and when checking was told it should be hot, staff returned it to the kitchen and then come back to say that the kitchen was now closed so the best they can do is remove it for the bill, so technically 4 people could eat and 1 could go hungry - great, once this was pointed out they decided they would recook, in the meantime we noticed that another meal had a well undercooked chicken burger, so returnee that aswell and inform them to turn the grill off as at this point we didn't feel safe eating there. AT NO POINT DID WE RECIEVE AN APOLOGY WHICH IS THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD EXPECT!! The 2 meals were taken off the bill but we will never visit or recommend this place to anyone. (I will point out that the waitress that was sent to bring our food and drinks was polite, while the other staff wanted to hide behind the counter and look at us like we were the issue). We then decided to try to go to a restaurant in friars walk to get desserts and at this point one of us had eaten a few chips, every restaurant was fully booked as it was a Saturday night so a few annoyed ladies walking round in the freezing cold. Then went to the market and what a difference, queued to get in (at this point we were ready to quit and go home) but it was so worth it, excellent food and customer service and our saviours of an almost ruined night. Good job these ladies have a sense of humour! So in a nutshell walk a few further steps and join the queue at the market as boy don't we wish we had in the first place!

Lovely little cafe facing the river Usk, little bit pricey.. but good quality food and drink.. nice view.. dog friendly 👍 which makes it a great little pit stop whilst walking the dog down the river 😀

We waited over 45 mins for food and over 30 mins for glasses of wine we had to ask in the end where it was the place wasn’t even busy the food arrived and it was stone cold when it arrived eventually there were items missing it was dry over cooked and tasteless the waitress then came and said sorry we don’t have the item you ordered really poor and by far the worst meal we have had out for many years definitely will not be returning

I went to have a coffee with my wife and after 10 minutes no one took care of us I asked if I had to order at the bar since no one served us the girl said that she had not seen when there were three waiters doing nothing and very few customers in the coffee mediocre and horrible service will never go back

Beautifully created indoor space with a very homey atmosphere and friendly attentive staff. Even tho it was busy during my visit, the staff stayed friendly and helpful throughout the entire visit.

My favourite place . Had cooked breakfast stunning . Really tasty and hot . There coffee is lovely especially there cappuccino. It is a bit pricey but the portion sizes are good good quality food

Lovely place and lovely people. Edit: amending review from 4 years ago. After lockdown the vibe of the place has completely changed, this used to be our go-to. Unfortunately the atmosphere here has become more pub-ish ( for lack of better words), which is not a bad thing in itself but not the reason we went here. The menu has changed quite a bit and one of my friends did not have much choice at all for vegan options. The people are lovely, but it's not the same as it used to be so no longer for us.

Only went in for a quick coffee while waiting for Newport county ticket office to open nice coffee , friendly staff and nice atmosphere will go back soon to try some food for deffo

We visited Norton’s today and what a boring experience. Our drinks were awful ,we ordered a pineapple juice which tasted awful . I had a iced coffee. The food we ordered was pancakes and bacon and a breakfast muffin. The bacon was black and about 15 rashers on about 6 pancakes to much food. The breakfast muffin was ok . Staff miserable and not welcoming at all . Definitely won’t be returning. To expensive for what we recieved.

Great place to relax with good coffee. Open some evenings when others are closed. Plenty of seating outside with views of the River Usk and university. Friendly staff. Toilets at ground floor level suitable for disabled. Phone USB sockets provided in parts. Dogs welcome. It's good to sit and watch the cyclists speeding over the river bridge scattering pedestrians. Plenty of food items to suit all tastes. Open until 20:00 most nights and 22:00 Fri and Sat. The food hygiene rating displayed is 5 very good.

Fab place for a pint or just a coffee

Food is great and lovely atmosphere. Service is incredibly slow. Restraunt was more than half empty and still took almost an hour for our food to come out and I only ordered a sandwich.

One of our glasses was dirty, the other had lipstick on, so had them changed. Ordered pizza, was then told toppings weren't available so reordered different ones, then was told there weren't any pizza bases so reordered, then told we'd be waiting 25 mins for food as it was busy (only 4 tables occupied but one by a slighly larger group). Over half an hour later we were offered a free drink. The food arrived after almost an hour of waiting with a hungry crying baby. Our food arrived but my 12month old waited longer. When his arrived I wondered why he wouldn't eat it and then discovered his chips were smothered in salt, asked to have them changed but he was scraping his tongue with his fingers and would not touch any more food. Waitress was friendly but when I told the manager I wasn't happy to pay the full bill considering he couldn't eat it, she was rude and told me I should have said it was for a baby (even though it was a kids meal, and the waitress saw he was a baby as we discussed it). I would have complained if my 11 year old had received that much salt. I actually felt bad that I had to keep complaining and was apologetic that I even had to ask for clean glasses and can understand if a business has a bad day but the attitude of the manager and complete lack of customer service is unacceptable. My baby could have been extremely ill from the amount of salt put on. She reluctantly removed cost of child's meal but was very rude. As we were about to leave the person on the table next to us were complaining because their meatballs were cold and undercooked.

Mediocre food at best, service was even worse. Staff are miserable and make minimal effort, appear that they don't even want to be there. Feels like I am the staff member and they are the customers the way you have to make effort and interact with them. Also overheard staff talking about customers which is a bonus point to their enthusiasm and service. Great job guys

I had a breakfast at there and they have very good food for vegans and Vegetarians. The coffee was amazing. The price wise it’s towards expensive side. The chefs have wonderful taste in their hands. The place of Resturant is at very nice location.

Had a lovely meal and drink in the sunshine last night. Delicious curry chicken ciabatta and chorizo hash. Highly recommend and will be coming back soon 😍

I lovely cup of fruit herbal tea and a great outdoor sitting area which is perfect on a sunny day to sit out by the river. good prices and as close to the town center as possible with out the hussle and bustle of the town center. definetely recommend

Loved everything about this visit. Blessed with good weather, I took my daughter to Horton’s for lunch over the Easter weekend and sat in their beautifully clean outside area with sunglasses on overlooking the river. Despite being pretty busy, we were seen within a minute of arrival and we ordered our food and drinks to a polite and smiley staff member. Waited no more than 15 minutes and then received truly tasty food at reasonable prices, again with great service. Thank you Horton’s ……. we’ll be back! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
