Great selection of coffee, lots of seating (the booths are great) food looked fantastic (but didn't try any), lovely setting too. My gripe is there is only one toilet cubicle available for everyone, and the queue backs on to the queue for those queuing for coffee. Doesn't detract from a lovely place though.

The cafe at Ridgeway is hands down our favorite coffee spot in Newport! Every visit here has been a treat, but our bonfire night visit this year was truly special. The cafe had a bustling crowd, but even with the high footfall, the staff kept the service excellent and impressively quick. We loved grabbing a hot dog from the stall outside—it was a perfect touch for the evening festivities. The food and drinks are always top-notch here: their cheesecakes are to die for, the blondies are perfectly rich, and the hot chocolates are incredibly cozy and delicious. It’s clear the cafe takes pride in everything they serve. The cafe is also wonderfully kid-friendly, with cakes and kid-sized hot chocolates that our little ones love! Accessibility is well thought out, too; the main seating area and cafe are fully accessible, which we really appreciate. Just note that there are a couple of steps up to the pod area if you’re thinking about booking one of those cozy, intimate spaces. The place is always spotless, and the team goes above and beyond to make sure everyone feels welcome. At The Ridgeway is truly a gem in Newport—amazing food, drinks, and friendly, consistent service every time. Can’t wait to come back again!

One of my favourite places, very nice place and great coffee.I usually bought the cakes here for our birthday.I did yesterday but that was the last one! They put the fresh one on the top in the counter then they gave me some of the older ones from the bottom.Ive spent nearly £50 for those cakes and half of it probably from Friday. I hope it’s worth it to loose a regular buyer.

Must say I just had the worst sandwich at The cafe at the Ridgeway, which was falafel and chilli sauce. I asked the waitress if there was any salad in this sandwich? She said no! It was served on a paper plate and looked like something the cat threw up and at the cost of £8.00 for this sandwich and a juice!! Unfortunately I had to eat it as I had to fast regarding food for 12hrs for a hospital appointment so was very hungry. I used to sometimes grab a sandwich here before covid, but I must say the food is definitely not made with any care and thought. On the menu there were only 4 or 5 different panni's so how could you get this so wrong. The cakes looked nice but obviously all bought in and not homemade! The cafe has become a mixture of different makeshift conservatories and isn't the nice pleasant establishment it once was. If the owners could look upon this as pull your socks up and don't let the general public pay £8.00 pounds for this.. never or will I recommend this cafe... I think the picture speaks for itself!

Birthday visit with family - 2nd time for me after a "not so good 1st experience". I ordered the BBQ Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese sauce - so glad the sauce came in a small pot as it didn't suit my palate at all - but the wings were very nice. Mains was a Chicken & Chorizo Pasta, made with onions, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, garlic & herb creamed sauce. WOW! Amazing dish - probably the best pasta I have ever had. Large chicken pieces (very tender) with the sauce flavouring through them. It didn't look to be a huge plate of food but the dish was deep & the portion size was very good. I had a medium sized glass of Pinot Grigio - a Chilean white wine that complimented my meal. No room for dessert but so glad I had given the Ridgeway another visit.

It’s a shame that some of the staff do not carefully listen to customers requests when ordering, we wanted a good experience and ordering coffee and cake should not be a difficult process. Three times I have had to return with my order due to the wrong milk or wrong size cup ‘be mindful of allergic reactions’. One member of staff spraying perfumed disinfectant onto glass bottles to clean them whilst coffee and food is being prepared and who wants to smell that!! The private pods closed at 3:30 due to shortage of staff again. Someone lit a cigarette next to us on our last visit, no fault of the cafe and again added to the experience. We will return and hopefully the manager can look into making some improvements if they have one and will this post last longer than a day!

This is always our essential stop when heading from London to Oakwood (Pembrokeshire) to ride roller coasters! The sausage sandwich is one of the best you can find (and we have tried a few travelling to theme parks around the UK). In addition, it is reasonably price, there is always free parking nearby and it has great views. When you come across the Severn Bridge, don't stop at the overpriced services, take the literally 5 minute detour off the M4 and head here instead (Unless you need fuel - they don't do that!). Heading back there in a few days.

Can’t complain about the food here and a good variety of cakes on offer too. The coffee came in cardboard style takeaway mugs with a plastic lid which perhaps is something they could move away from, but it’s probably cheaper to create that way although it must generate considerable waste even if they are biodegradable. The outer area has enclosed pods which are a nice touch except for some reason dogs aren’t allowed in them and we had our two Border Terriers with us. I was expecting that the dog friendly area would be in the pods and not in the main area; no doubt they have a reason for this approach. Even so, it’s well worth a visit if you do have a dog with you.

What a beautiful coffee shop and bar, situated at the best view in Newport! On a clear day the vista of the western valley is amazing. Great place to exercise yourself and the dog before heading for a creamy latte. I've watched this place grow since it opened from a public toilet to a cafe. Now it has quaint private booths that you can use for 40 mins or rent for longer... I've seen a few negative reviews, what more do people want, some people think they're looking for a Michelin Star in a busy bussling café, please look at the big picture of the views, the drink, the exercise and relaxation you can have! Stay humble and be thankful! In my humble opinion, this is the best café bar in Newport. Shame it's not open for longer than 6 pm, as I would use it until darkness to watch the sun go down. You'll love the place, friendly staff, speedy service plus you can have a wine or beer. Parking is free and plentiful. MOST IMPORTANT TO ME, IT'S DOG 🐕 FRIENDLY 🐕👍🏻❤️

Popped in, en route home from central Newport after staying over for the Wales v France 6 nations match (2024). Slightly disappointed that there were no actual cooked breakfasts on the menu, as were recommended for this. However, the Bacon/Sausage sarnie was pleasant enough and not too expensive compared to 'home' The dear other half was not impressed by the Veggie Sausage sarnie, though (not a Vegetarian, but fussy with processed meat). Was more like a 'bubble n' squeak' patty, than any other form of Veggie sausage. Service was great and atmosphere was pleasant enough in the little 'pods' outside, which you can request to use, (for free for the first 40 mins). Pecan pie to takeaway was expressly consumed, when returned home after a 2.5 hour journey. Very nice, with a cuppa..

Just visited (28th Oct), ordered sausage sandwiches and coffee. We sat in a pod, which are time limited to 40 mins. Whilst we were within the time (the alarm hadn't sounded on the little gadget they give you) my friend went to the counter to order more coffees and cake but was told we would have to leave the pod and find other seats. There were no seats inside (on low tables) but they still wouldn't allow us to remain in the pod even though there were 3 empty. I spoke to a staff member who advised me that "they are not our rules, you can't stay in there unless you pay £5 for an extra half an hour" I would completely understand this policy if we were sat in there without purchasing anything or there were other people waiting to use the pods! We left without ordering as they clearly don't value our business. We will not return even though we have regularly visited, and loved, this cafe in the past.

This has always been one of our favourite places to grab a drink and sometimes a bite to eat until recently. Iced drinks through the summer were basically a whole cup of ice and very little substance. Breakfast sandwiches with dry bread and the bread seems to have shrunk to what it used to be, very disappointing due to not meeting expectations on more than one occasion. It seems they need to up their game as there’s plenty of competition around. Such a shame as it use to be the place to be for a lovely breakfast or lunch.

We used to come here regularly before the pandemic and loved it. However, since moving further away we’ve not really been back since they rebranded and renovated. We went back to try it again when in the area and were so disappointed. Seating choice and availability were great, lovely setting, and the food was nice but extremely expensive. For £5, you too can get a lone bagel with bacon and cream cheese on a paper plate. We had two bagels, a diet coke and a coffee for £15 😳 As someone with an allergy, I had hope when I saw how well some of the counter products were labelled with allergens. However, upon asking if I was safe to eat there I was met with a pretty clueless look and guesswork as to what may or may not include the allergen. They did say they would check the packaging but I was rather nervous when they later checked to see if I was okay - which is kind but doesn’t fill you with courage!

Stopped over in camper van. Quiet but good fire. Limited beers and kitchen initially closed. Two more locals turned up and they wanted food, so kitchen was opened. I then ordered Rump Steak. Have to say it was both welcome and delicious. Very quiet and safe stop over, and there was a warm welcome in the pub. Just be aware that out of season food might be a bit hot and miss due to too few customers to make it worthwhile.
