Food was nice. Had a roast dinner but left hungry not a lot on the plate for tge price. Tge young waiter serving us was lovely tge older lady very rude and abrupt and couldn't even crack a smile the whole time we was there. Wont be in a rush to go back from me . Also was a service fee added to tge bill which we weren't made aware of. Which personally if we knew before hand would of refused it.

Had Sunday lunch here service wasn’t good or the food I had pork it came out a big pad of fat, had to wait for cutlery which should be already on the table not a great experience won’t go back

We turned up at a busy time of day without a reservation and was given a table that was no longer needed . We had perfect attention and service throughout our stay. Food was delicious. So so glad we came upon this .

Had the loveliest afternoon here on Saturday with my family. Thought we’d just pop down for a drink and ended up eating nearly our own body weight in fabulous Tapas….all delicious! The pub literally gives you a big warm hug as soon as you step inside. It felt so relaxed. Alison was incredibly friendly and efficient - it’s evident how much she loves her job (and indeed all the canine pals who are also allowed to venture inside…they were spoilt rotten with limitless treats from her too!) It’s not often that you walk into somewhere and feel instantly at home, particularly not being a local, but The Ruperra did just that and I can’t wait to return. Thank you for having us all! The Sunday roast was excellent. The service was brilliant. Alison served us with warm friendly humour. Which made our visit very enjoyable. We all wanted to return again soon. We parked in a car park opposite the pub.,

Baby shower. Staff, food, venue totally amazing! Everyone couldn't do enough. Very friendly and welcoming. Lovely atmosphere. The food is exceptional! Would recommend.

Walked through the door to a friendly welcome atmosphere, accommodating us to where we’d like to sit, there were 10 of us and the food arrived very soon after submitting our Order (although there were some fussy ones in our group) presentation was excellent and the food was outstanding with the Roast Beef melting in your mouth. Quite a high standard for just your local pub easily equaling Restaurant standards, can’t wait to return, if it was more local and the weather not so cold I’d go more often. Highly recommended

Loved this pub nice friendly atmosphere, warm welcome and very accommodating - Had Sunday lunch here this month and evening meal - food was amazing !! Staff friendly always asking is everything ok , fire burning which made a lovely warm and cosy setting . Never had tapas before and the choices they offered was fab and they were so tasty and delicious . Will definitely be returning very soon and would recommend this pub , their food and their friendly atmosphere

I ate in here recently it had a wonderful atmosphere, the food was lovely and the staff were very accommodating. Special thanks to the blonde girl who served me made the night more enjoyable.

My partner and I often come to this pub for a midweek tapas treat, if we don’t feel like cooking and it is just such a lovely place to relax after work. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is great and the girl who works in there Harriet is so helpful and friendly, she strikes the perfect balance between giving us our space to unwind and making sure we feel looked after. Amazing service and tasty food.

Wonderful cozy little pub with a great atmosphere and most importantly great food. The tapas menu in particular is amazing and such good quality, the service here is also very good with Harriet making us all feel very comfortable and welcome.

Went for lunch today. 2 x 4 tapas for £20. The lounge was very cold - people were wearing coats. The food came quite quickly but the quality was not very good. The patatas bravas was cold and tasteless. The chicken was so hard you could not cut through it. From looking at previous reviews we may have visited on an off day. The food was very disappointing. We did complain and were only offered an apology and the service charge removed from the bill. We won't be visiting again.

Food and service were excellent. Tapas is 3 dishes for £20 Monday to Thursday and the value is insane, every dish was delicious. This place is a gem!

Having written a poor review previously, I must recognise how things have changed. We walked out of another local establishment and tried the Ruperra in the hope of accommodating a table of 4 as a walk in for Sunday lunch. They happily accommodated us, advised us in advance they were out of beef and yorkshire puds, however that did not spoil our lunch. Chicken and pork was superb. Veg was hot, plentiful and tasty! Too full for dessert! Service from Milly was brilliant, she needs to be cloned! Yes, we will return!

First time in this pub, it was really busy with locals having a beer at the bar which is nice to see. The staff there were friendly. The food was tapas, (would like to have had different options as well), but it was very tasty and well presented. Wife enjoyed the king prawns and i loved the meatballs. Only thing that i didn't like was the added service charge of 10%, was the option to remove after been given the receipt which is a big awkward to say no.

Great tapas on offer...unfortunately quite a few tapas...and other dishes...were not available...running out of pizzas!!!!!!Really friendly, helpful waitress.Tapas dishes are quite generous and really delicious, they are freshly made so expect a little wait. As with other pubs etc the drinks are overpriced..nearly £8 for a large wine...£3.40 for large coke/lemonade!!!! It is a very noisy pub and you have difficulty holding a conversation, partly due to the low ceilings. The bar always seems to have a gang of locals who want to be heard. NOTE....a 10% tip is automatically added to bill ...one of my pet hates...you can request for it be taken off ....I would rather decide myself if and how much I tip.

Delicious Sunday Lunch 😋 Good house white wine, Had a bit of a wait for dessert but when it came it was very tasty. Would most definitely return. Thanks Guys

Group of us went for dinner service was dreadful and the manger extremely rude she should be running a prison camp not a hospitality venue.

We had the worst service ever. Food could be ok but the atmosphere and service it’s horrible. We wait 30 minutes to get our food and when the food arrived we asked for plates and cutlery but the waitress brings us just knife no fork so we asked again! Absolutely disappointed. I definitely not recommend this pub.

We went for tapas last night and was so disappointed with the food I had the greek gyros and fries ,well there was a tomato base sauce on my gyros, but there was so much chilli in it you couldn't taste anything else, if you know greek food like I do you know there is no chillies in chicken gyros ,all the plates we were served had chilli on them so checked the description of meals on the menu and there is no mention of chilli in any of the plates ,very disappointed with the food ,I think the chef need to rethink his culinary skills ,won't be going back in a hurry.

Food is terrible. Bravette steak is tough and chewy but my dog enjoyed it, prawn pilpil is tasteless and it’s not really Spanish prawn pilpil and you have to peel the king prawns too but they don’t provide you with finger bowls and lastly the homemade nachos were soggy and glued together with a cheap yellow cheddar cheese. To make matters worse the lady who served us addressed my husband “lovely”. So my husband said I’m 30 years older than you so have some respect. Dreadful food what more can I say.

We really enjoyed our evening here. Great selection of drinks, good draft beer and cider and cocktails too. The menu was tapas with lots of meat, fish and vegetable options. We really enjoy it all but our favourites were the gyros and croquettes. They had a decent kids menu and desserts too. We will definitely be back soon. The staff were very friendly and accommodating too!

I have driven past this pub for 30 years and never called in. I have wasted 30 years of great atmosphere, good company, and excellent, friendly service. My partner and I called in tonight on the way to a restaurant. I was determined to go after driving past so many times. I'm glad we did. Another visit soon. And, we will try the menu. As promised, we tried the Sunday roast. It's really, really good! We will be back...again...

It's wasn't busy as it was lunchtime, so it was easy to serve us quickly. Nevertheless, it was very good service and food was excellent. Mikey

Had a hair in my beef and service was not good. Had to chase up my mains then told I had to pay at the bar that was surrounded by men drinking sat on bar stools (not want u do after eating your food then having to queue at a bar full of drinkers to pay) Then trying to get out of the carpark was a nightmare. Cars blocking u in and absolute bedlam trying to get out of the pub. Not a happy paying customer, I spent £72 and no money or drinks knocked off for a hair in my food. Will not be returning.

Parking is very limited. Although the pub is wheelchair accessible there is no accessible toilet. Apart from that, we enjoyed our Sunday lunch visit. The food was very good, well prepared and the service friendly.

The food was pretty good but I'd advise getting a table away from the bar as having (loud) locals stood directly behind you when eating isn't ideal. They also seem to hog/block the bar, which isn't ideal

Service appalling....kept waiting at the bar for 20mins finally got served for a waitress to tell bar man to stop serving us to serve someone else. I identified we had a table booked to be told it was proberly not ready however as waitress was telling us this she was walking away from me. Soft drinks were disgusting...flat basically, told it was the soda and most proberbly need to be changed. Family member purchase small glass of wine, soft drink and a pint of beer and was charged £16.00 which does not sit right with me. Was directed to the incorrect table to be asked by other customers to move. Eventually sat down at correct table 30minutes late to be sat waiting for 20minutes with no menu therfore had to get up and ask for menus. Got served eventually had to ask for cutlery and condiments as food sitting going cold. Food was lovely although looked a little small but was lovely and just enough. Soft drinks remained flat. Then asked for the bill to wait 10minutes to see the waiter with his coat on leaving the premises. Asked for bill again and git over charged on our bill...it took 3 staff members to recalculate and provide us with correct bill. Spent nearly £300.00 in 3hrs at this pub restaurant. Food nice, soft drinks awful, atmosphere nice staff rude and incompetent.....not blaming staff but possibly more staff required at busy times. Safe to say lovely meal thankfully, had good time with family but won't return....disappointed 😞

One of my favorite Sunday dinners I've had this year (2022) The meat was tender and succulent, veg was fresh and had a little crunch which I personally really like, the roasties where plentiful and had a nice crunch along with an out of this world yorkie, the gravy was superb, but I personally prefer it slightly thicker but all in all a stunning bit of grub. The pub itself is a beautiful and cosy little place with plenty of tables and can sit large groups. The service was absolutely on point. The servers were really nice and accommodating. Came here for Sunday dinner, not been here before but reviews were quite positive online. Was quite possibly the worst Sunday roast I’ve ever had (half cooked roasties, grey dry beef, burnt Yorkshire’s, and everything bland). I saw one review mentioning it being a microwave meal - I would agree with this.

Unreliable opening hours. Closed early, just before 11 on a Friday night. Went on Sunday at 8ish and it was already closed. I gather this is usual.

One of our favourite pubs in the area. Always a great atmosphere with a cosy welcoming feel. Staff are always friendly and great selection of beers 👍🏻

Food expensive for portion. No other choice of food except tapas. Sat in bar area not restaurant which we would have preferred, lots of men standing at the bar not comfortable when eating. Service very good, staff pleasant.

Sunday roast was amazing! More than enough veg, gravy on meat but also gave gravy boats to the table (one person complimented the gravy). Vegetarian option was devoured. Kids dessert was the highlight, they got to keep the character container.

Extremely vibrant local pub. Absolutely full of really happy local people chatting excitedly and eating excellent gastro food when we visited on Saturday night. Excellent friendly service at the bar and to table .

Loved it, friendly and welcoming. The food is great, loads of choice and all freshly made. The buffalo chicken with their own hot sauce is a winner, but so was everything else. Tidy portion sizes, picked three dishes each, and was stuffed. Highly recommended.

Didn't take any photos as didn't get chance the food was so good! Lovely sunday lunch beef fell apart in your mouth. Staff were super friendly abd welcoming and we're lovely with our little shihtzu Bella giving her strokes and treats. And the locals in the pub were chatty and friendly too. Can't wait to go back soon and make sure I order the cauliflower cheese with my roast next time. Biscoff cheesecake was to die for!

Had a lovely evening at the Ruperra Arms. I'm staying locally for work and decided to give it a go as I fancied a pint and some food nearby. Had 3 tapas for £18, great quality food. Nice selection of local beers and welcoming staff. Nice atmosphere and locals, and wood fire too. Thanks :)

We had Sunday lunch here as a family and there were 14 of us. The food was amazing, timings were perfect and our kids loved it.. a perfect place for a Sunday lunch!!

Stunning local, small independent pub. Selling some amazing food on the tapas menu. Highly recommended.

Nice food but it could have been warmer.

Disappointing. Food bland. Incredibly, no spice at all. Salt and pepper would have been something, garlic, paprika expected but none used. Plain tinned chopped tomato and roasted potatoes passed as potatas bravas - paprika…. Nothing added! Similar with the meatballs; just tinned tomato! Of the 7 different dishes we had on our table, none were particularly flavourful. Clearly little effort made in the preparation of this precooked, supermarket style frozen food. Not somewhere to return to.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you for the way you looked after us today. We were a party of 21 celebrating my daughter's 21st with a family meal out. The Sunday lunch was lovely, the staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful, everyone had a great time. Thank you so much for everything x

Service good food poor platter was mostly canned with dried fruit and nuts from a packet.steak strips were tender but tiny and the blue cheese sauce was a dressing from a bottle not a sauce.hair in the chips and over priced for what they served us.a lot of trumped up faf but realisticly its not the best.also had locals with raised voices shouting over bar for service friendly banter but not what you want to hear.no parking. Won't be going back

Food was lovely when it arrived, but they were short staffed and while we were told 25mins, it was actually an hour and a half which would've been ok if someone had just let us know. The bar is tiny so getting a drink took ages too. Fab singer somewhat made up for the waiting around

Lovely welcome and yummy tapas. Staff were very helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

After seeing local adverts for the Ruppera I was looking forward to trying it out. Unfortunately it wasn’t great, arrived for a booking at 8pm, 20 minute wait for our drinks order to be taken, the food order was taken at the same time and the food eventually arrived at around 9.30. What came was ok, nothing special and not hot but warm. Lastly onto desert, two ice cream sundaes were ordered but we gave up waiting after 35 minutes and asked for the bill and left. The visit lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes and in that time we had 4 tapas dishes and two drinks. I definitely wouldn’t go here again and certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The food was nicely presented . Would have been 4stars if it wasnt for the service. Arrived at 7:30 ordered by 7:45. Informed 45 minutes later that kitchen only had one chef so running behind. Informed at 9pm that would be 10 minutes and finally arrived 9:30. They should have informed diners of the kitchen issue before taking orders. Food was good but not 2hr wait good. Not planning on going back

Had a delicious meal last night for a Birthday celebration. So good we ve booked for our Anniversay too. Would definitely recommend, the food was great, staff very pleasant and excellent service .

Easter Sunday roast but I suspect a microwave meal for one may have offered more taste. I take no pleasure in writing such a bad review but the folk of Bassaleg deserve better. Pitiful portions (2 thin slices of beef), unseasoned veg, chip potatoes (not roast); all served cold. No idea how they have achieved such a good rating but please do yourself a favour and give it a wide berth until they appoint a chef.

Three course lunch can't fault it great from start to finish even better as it was mother's Day.

Excellent traditional pub. We had tapas with all dishes being delicious! So happy to have within walkable distance. Warm welcome and attentive service. Good choice of drinks and fair pricing when looking at quality!

People and staff very friendly. The food looked amazing and wished we had enough time there to sample it. Will definitely return in the future.
