The Waveney in Waveney

The occasion was an awards night for the local powerboat racing club, The Lowestoft and Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club. It was a very busy night for the two ladies behind the bar and they were working very hard indeed. (I know because I've done it !). Their service was efficient and friendly and I would recommend this pub without hesitation.

Really cheap beer and relaxing atmosphere. Nice sports bar with a very friendly barman!! A good range of lagers and beers with excellent TV's showing various sporting events. Also dog friendly.

We went here for a few drinks when we moored up for the night. From the moment we walked in til the minute we walked out the staff were very friendly and helpful. During the evening I fancied a coffee but they didn't sell coffee so they made me a cuppa in their home. Nothing was too much trouble. We will go their again when we next visit the broads. If you want a really good night please visit The Waveney, you won't be disappointed

Staying locally and went here for an evening meal. Much nicer inside than out with huge lovely beer garden out back. Menu not big and mostly pizzas but when it came it was great. One is plenty big enough for two and obviously home made. Definitely recommend and would return.

After years of travelling the broads i have never enjoyed s bar as much. I have more experience than anyone on the broads and know where is good and where isn’t. I will share this experience with those within my broad boating community. Kind regards, Me Porter

Ordered two pizzas for lunch! Enjoyed having the tvs there to distract us from the fact we were hungry. Once the food arrived it came in pizza boxes which was cute and also the pizza was by far the best homemade pizza we had had. Only to be told the chef was of sick and the manager had actually made them! I think the manager should be a chef also cause that was incredible thankyou everyone at the waveney!

After arriving in a taxi at the wherry nice And dry the staff there gave our table away to someone that arrived after us we walked in the pouring rain to the waveney, when we arrived there were no tables available the young man (with the should length hair) said he only had tables outside as it was under cover we decided to take the table rather then walk further in the rain. He served us with drinks and I asked if he could tell us if a table became available inside , within minutes he came and got us and took us inside . All the staff were lovely made us feel very welcome asked us if we were ok for drinks etc. This is a youngish pub and at 56 &60 we still felt comfortable we regularly use the other moss &co pubs and the high standard of staff shows through here too

Moored at Oulton Broad on the last day of our boating holiday. Picked the Waveney for lunch and wasn’t disappointed. Great COVID-19 precautions, very hot day, but the garden had a very pleasant cool breeze. Served drinks at our table for very promptly. Restricted menu, but great food. Our server Chris was very helpful and made time to chat. All in all a nice couple of hours for a lazy lunch, nice drink, nice food and great service!

Fantastic service from our waiter Zak, very polite and helpful, food was delicious, even brought some home for later. Child friendly, staff ( Zak and Criss) spoke to my daughter as an adult not just another kid which she loved ♥️ Will definitely be going again soon.

On boating holiday stopped midday for lunch. Staff we’re helpful and friendly even when a glass was knocked over by our grandson. We can recommend the Hunters Chicken and any pizza the cooks are fabulous. Liked it so much we stayed the night just to watch football and have another nice meal.

Chris the bartender has 10/10 bar skills, he poured me a tequila rose is 0.1 seconds, amazing visit thankyou

Opening and losing times, are at a whim, no regular hours at all,, Food is basically pizza, chips, and burgers. Service slow, erratic, , and the "kitchen, "(a microwave and a chip pan) is only open "when it's worth it mate"!! As a customer you addressed as "mate, pal, Buddy" etc etc and there is no feeling that your custom is valued, wanted, or needed" the attitude is very poor. the Lager choice is literally whatever they can get the cheapest and charge the most for,.. Sorry to say, this pub will no longer be my "local" , after several owners managers etc, it is going to struggle through the off seasons, especially as now pubs are open, it is struggling to draw , regular, and l new customers now, the pub basically is unwelcoming, and bland, and the staff immature and amateur!

Never been to Oulton Broad before, but Jacob, Coren and Bessy made it such an amazing night! Despite the circumstances it’s an night to remember! x

Chris was very attentive and friendly and kept our drinks topped up with the new table service. We will definitely be back and hopefully all the bar staff are as good as this!

When I fort I was going to have a rubbish day with the wife with no football being played with all this cornea virus about chris ended up making are afternoon with wicked banter and atmosphere with no football being played again unbelievable

Often call in here for a drink. Very friendly bar. Last week decided to eat. We regularly eat at commadore and jolly sailors owned by same people. We were very disappointed with the fish and chips. They are cheaper than other moss establishments but no way the same quality. Fish was over cooked in thick hard batter. One of party had pizza which was absolutely fantastic. Will have pizza next time we eat at Waveney.

Called for a pint on a very dreary February evening. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Had a pint of beer and a bar snack. There is a good choice hot bar snacks from the kitchen. I had Salt and pepper chicken, it was perfect, crispy coated pieces of chicken breast with a fruity sauce. I wish I had room for more food after the Salt and pepper chicken.I will come back here.

I love the Waveney but I left feeling pretty awful on Saturday night. The door man made me feel insecure and I could see he made other people feel the same way. There was a queue outside and there was a one in one out system...well, there wasn't really....the bouncer was picking and choosing who was allowed in, shining his torch on women wearing dresses and heels and inviting them in before others even though there were people such as myself and my friends (all females but we were wearing jeans - obviously didn't get the dress code memo!) stood at the front of the queue. There was also a man who he wasn't letting in for being "too short"... I just think it's outrageous to be honest. This man should not be allowed to treat people this way. In a society where mental health is such a serious issue, he should be barred from doing this kinda work and making people feel the way he was. Once I finally got in (after about 20 minutes of being at the front of the queue) I had a great night, it's a shame this one individual has made me question whether or not to even entertain the idea of going back.

Having tried other pubs in Oulton this seems to be the only one that allows dogs inside. Thank you to the Waveney.It was a bit loud as it’s a sports bar and there don’t seem to be any areas which are less noisy but we were grateful to be allowed to be let in with our dog.The service and food were very good. The portions are large and can highly recommend the wraps.

Supposed to be a sports bar, well they show the same sport on the Tv's, nothing like sports bar I have been in, far better attempt at one even in Africa where I work, with beer half the price as well

Friendly, accommodating and professional service from Will and Jacob at the bar. We were struggling to find anywhere to have dinner that accepts dogs inside due to the cold. THANK GOD WE FOUND THIS PLACE. Wow wow wow the food was absolutely amazing - generous good quality portions and excellent value for money. Sharon the chef was absolutely fantastic - if only we lived closer, we’d be here all the time! Will and Jacob were even kind enough to call their sister pub the Commador to ask if we were able to moor up for the night. Absolutely brilliant service, what a lucky place Oulton Broad is to have The Waveney!! If you’re on the Norfolk Broads this place is not to be missed!!!!!!

Visited a couple of times and can never complain! The pizzas are amazing!! Also a wide range of drinks and it’s all reasonably priced & a lovely experience all round.

Very dog friendly pub. We tried the bucket of chicken and chips - delicious- moist chicken in crunchy breadcrumbs! Hunters pizza was laden in toppings too. It’s nice there’s a room for non-sports fans. Loved it!

Whatever David Moss gets hold of always turns out to be a success - had a lovely pizza here. Authentic for a pub one and the staff were courteous as always. He also trains his staff up very well. Will definitely be going again.

We have been going to Oulton Broad for over twenty years and have just returned from a weeks stay at Broadlands Holiday Village. The Waveney has been refurbished which is so much better, it was looking very tired when we last went. A warm welcome from the Manager and all the staff is guaranteed. Good food, good prices. Friday night was our last night made all the more memorable with a group called The Boston Tea Party, they were brilliant and the place was rocking. Even though it was so busy the service by the bar staff was fantastic.

We visited this pub for lunch as signs outside said food was available until 2.30pm it was virtually empty we were given a warm welcome from bar staff

Well cooked food by the attentive and friendly chef Damien. He catered for me being a fussy eater and it was not an issue. Our Food was well presented and decent sized portions served to our requirements. The chef was on his own and did a terrific job! Compliments to him. We look forward to returning and trying out the newly revised menu. Reasonably priced and a nice ambience. Thank you for making our first visit a good one.

Good refurbishment but messed up big time for a live music venue. Unless you are crammed in down the front you can’t see the band at all you may as well put a CD on . Should of had a stage built for the bands felt it was pointless then being there when you can’t see them messed up there big time I think.. The pubs way to small for large groups impossible to find any one you are out with far to busy , plus the bar is so slow longest wait for a drink in town!! And pricey . Done the pub up nice but definitely should of had a Stage built shame..

Went here Friday night got first round for 4 of us came to 16.40 thought ok roughly 4 quid a drink then next round exactly the same 20.40. How does this work out so we told the bar staff who said it was wrong think the dark haired bar woman was probably overcharging everyone.the barman asked us who served us so hope she gets told off, it’s wrong to over charge thinking nobody knows because they are drinking.

We popped in for lunch the other day and were very impressed. The food was freshly cooked, very tasty and gave sizeable portions. Laura and Shannon, the 2 members of staff on duty were very friendly and especially accommodating towards my two young children. I even managed to catch some of the cricket. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Came here today and had an absolutely amazing meal and would rate this 100% the place to go for a sports bar .Me and my family had a lovely chat with the staff in there and what an amazing manager ..Also the chef was warming and chatty .There is no other place me and my kids will be eating at ! Dog friendly too 100% perfect

Me and my partner popped in for a quick drink and a game of pool one Wednesday evening, we were served by William. Great guy, friendly, helpful and funny. Had a laugh with him and one of the other girls working, which made a really comfortable atmosphere. Lovely bar, looks very smart compared to some places, it is done out really nice. The outside area is well looked after also.

Was staying in the area with a friend and wanted a dog friendly place to eat, there aren’t many in the area.

Recently moved to this area and been meaning to try out a few places and this happened to be the first place. I was meeting a friend of mine who I haven’t seen in a while; I walked and he drove and it was easy for him as plenty of parking out side this time of year, might be a different story in the summer.

We couldn’t be bothered to cook and it was a freezing Monday night. We didn’t fancy going to far so we ended up in the Waveney. It’s a sports bar with a massive screen and not normally our thing.

First visit to Lowestoft with wife and treating our young niece. Exactly what we wanted, good meat selection, hot veg, large portions at the Sunday carvery. Quick service at bar and managed to squeeze in the sweet as well, will return.

It’s been a while since we have been to the Waveney and thought it might be worth a go seeing’s it’s been completely refurbished and obviously under new management. Now don’t get me wrong but in my opinion it’s changed for the worst into a sports bar which in my view is not what Oulton Broad needs. Food wasn’t bad but very limited, service was good and the drinks were well looked after. A bit too noisy for me but hey ho, everyone can’t be pleased. Sure the original Waveney was going down the pan but changing it into a sports bar!!!! Not for me but I wish them every success.

Have been twice in the past month, first with a group of 9 and then with the in-laws. Service was quick and food was really good! Loved the crispy chicken fillet burger...it was HUGE! Lovely refurb, nice outside area and its dog friendly during the day too! Definitely will recommend and will be returning.

This is a sports pub and not my thing but I called in to see what the refurbishment was like. It wasn't busy and we found a table in an alcove with sofas. There is a limited menu of inexpensive bar snacks and for the price the food is good. There's a couple of decent bitters on draft and the coffee is good so I've been back a couple of times when there's no sport on.

Perfectly decent sports based pub. Although at time of visit sporting options were limited and so the atmosphere was quiet. I imagine that it's a good venue when sporting events are taking place. Drinks seemed reasonably priced, although not cheap. Can't comment on the food as didn't have any.

Used to be fine before but they seem to have taken it to a new level since the refurb.

Between us we had two pizzas, garlic bread, large full English and a chilli hot dog. The deal to have any pizza, burger or hotdog and any pint of beer or glass of wine for £10 is absolutely incredible.

Love the new look of ‘The Wave’ Food is impeccable! Mitch is...FML amazing!!! Needs to iron his shirt tho! Will has the best set of pipes! Moss & co you bossed it!

We ate here for 2 evenings,and have been here on our last visit to Oulton.Food is still as good and very good value.highly recommend.great staff.

Came here for our 36th anniversery and found the menu somewhat limited in choice as no prawn cocktail or garlic mushrooms on the starter list. My wife wanted the pan fried salmon only to be told it was not available so she had the cod as did I, this was fine but there were no peas as they had run out,this on a tuesday and the pub was hardly busy with only 3 tables in use. The desserts were ok except for the cheesecake which I ordered was not available because it had'nt set, I found this hard to believe.We then asked for coffee this was so weak you coud'nt taste the coffee only the hot water. There was only one person serving and he was very helpful but he had to tend the bar as well. This used to be one of the best pubs in Lowestoft it is such a shame the way things have changed suffice to say we wont be returning anytime soon.

For years we have been popping into the Waveney for an after tennis drink and sometimes a meal. While it has needed a makeover for several years, the hanging baskets always looked amazing making the pub look very inviting and the bar was always full particularly at this time of year. Yesterday evening it was virtually empty but we took our drinks outside to the seating area as it was sunny. Attempts have been made to upgrade this but ...all the metal "ashtrays" were full of rubbish and liquid of some description (??) and large clump of dog muck on the ground. Obviously keeping the area clean and appealing is not high on priority list. One of the things which used to invite us to stay for something to eat was the handwritten menu board; however this is now blank.

visitied for a sunday roast plenty of food helplful staff and nice to see it open again. will try here again

Los bocadillos eran anunciado en pan granary, vinieron en pan blanco que obviamente era el más barato pan pudieran encontrar las patatas chaqueta estaban bajo preparado y bultos, y un miembro del grupo y pedimos una cappauchino que había al otro lado de la calle para conseguir algo de leche. Parece que esto ha sido como este ya que los nuevos propietarios tomaron más como lo que solía ser un lugar precioso para comer y beber. Nunca más, conducen bien clara.

3 visitas a la waveny recientemente, pero no más. Cada vez que me han dado la factura equivocada que ascendían a más de lo que tenía. Ayer nos llevamos nuestros visitantes para comer el domingo. Nos dijeron que no tenían porque el horno asado. Suficiente. Entonces nos dijeron que no patata puré. Mi marido había salchichas y patatas fritas. Su comida consistía de 2 salchichas, unos pocos no muy agradable de mirar y frijoles. patatas fritas La otra persona que tenía 4, pero salchichas nos cobraron el mismo. El resto de nosotros había pescado y patatas fritas y nos hubiera gustado haber ido a la tienda de peces. Solía ser mi lugar favorito para comer, pero no más. Es muy atractiva ahora en mal estado y vacío. Otra pareja llegó y salimos después de que nos dijeron que todo lo que pedimos no podían tener.

Fuimos a este pub para comer con la familia (5). Esperamos más de una hora para la comida y la mesa de 6 que entramos en 15 minutos después de su primera comida nos dieron. Aunque tuvimos que esperar 10 minutos entre el primer y el último plato. En este punto estábamos bastante frustrados y preguntar cuánto sería. Entonces nos dijeron que estaba siendo plateados. 15 minutos después todos tuvimos nuestra comida. La cena asado fue totalmente comestible. Las patatas fritas eran cuñas, algunos en alrededor de 2 pulgadas de grosor. Las hamburguesas que pedimos era difícil y duro. La camarera era especialmente servicial. No nos preguntó si queríamos cualquier salsas, no nos preguntaron si la comida estaba bien. Cuando estábamos terminado nos fuimos al bar para conseguir la factura y me hicieron pagar la totalidad de la comida, aunque el 75% de que era incomible.

Ale, ambiente agradable y el personal es muy atento. El asado los domingos tenía 5 verduras, montones de carne y una gran budín de Yorkshire, muy bien preparado y por £9. 50 con postre incluido (en nuestro caso el cheesecake de frambuesa) muy buena relación calidad-precio. Mi marido dijo yorkshireman NB la salsa era muy buena y solía trabajar en las minas de sheffield salsa así conoce su cosas. Me gustó el hecho de que ofrecen una tabla de quesos, pero no podía resistir la tarta, Le tren para quesos la próxima vez! Bien hecho, una experiencia encantadora. Los amantes de la ginebra nota que tiene una enorme variedad.

Pensamos que la comida deja probar bajo la nueva dirección, que había sido un par de veces antes, pero había sido decepcionado con la calidad de la comida y el nivel de limpieza. Me alegro de que probarlo bajo la nueva gestión de comida era...

Popped in and was seated quickly and was told about the wait on the food as they were busy. Food was far above my expectations and i'm glad to see that the old and previously packed menu has changed to something smaller so you can expect fresh food every time.Staff were well informative and advised me to finished my lovely meal with one of the many premium gins on offer and I was certainly not left unsatisfied.Will return soon!

Eat with a party of 10. Waiter read back the order and still wrong. Kids waited 20 minutes after adults. Lemonade off. Saffron potatoes cooked in a 'fish like' disgusting sauce. Real let down.

Went in for meal. We have used the Waveney for over 15 years. We're dissatisfied with last owners so thought we would try again now new people in. Only us eating had to wait over half hour for main meal. Good job we decided on a starter to share. Lots of people drinking at bar. Very small choice on menu and no fish and chips. Don't think we will be rushing back it's a shame as this used to be a fab place with fab pub food.

1 person on duty so it was a long wait, menu has been changed so couldn't find much that we liked, no prawn cocktail, apparently going a bit more up market so won't be going back, sorry waveney it used to be a lovely place but you have spoilt it, it's such a pity as we often went there

Just standard pub food, generally OK, not much of a selection of real ales. OK pub, accomodating of children.

My wife and I visited on Friday 14 April for dinner.This was our first visit since new people tock over.My wife has a food intolerance.Staff were very helpful and the chef came out to discuss what he could cook for her.The food was very good

The Vegetarian options were fantastic Deep-fried halloumi and carrot salad was totally fantastic. The main course of the Halloumi & Mushroom Burger fantastic combination and cooked perfectly.As a Vegetarian its so refreshing to find such a great choice of food.The Gin soaked smoked salmon , you need to try it to get the full experience, a written description will not do this dish justice.Staff very helpful and attentive, it is also child friendly.Will be definitely be returning here.

Recently come under new management . Also new chef .food was very good friendly staff nice atmosphere .Decor a bit tired but im sure new management will address in time

First time I've been to the Waveney since the new owners have been there and was not disappointed. We had a enjoyable evening. The food was hot and well cooked.The staff were pleasant and helpful. We Would recommend it to others.

Took my wife to The Waveney for a Valentines meal out. Always friendly staff and great food and this time was no different. A complimentary bottle of prosecco each which was a great gesture. Only thing that didn't work out was my wife's choice of food that she wanted had run out. Would recommend to friends and is a good advert for great pub grub.

Food is lovely and fresh, cooked to perfection and served by friendly waitresses.Ideal for a special occasion

Visited last night, Saturday. The food was great. Most of us had the lamb shank and started with prawns. The service was good. I hope the new people who take over this week keep most of the staff especially the restaurant manageress, the chefs and bar man Tom, all of whom are excellent at their jobs.

Once again it's difficult to find fault with this pub for food and service. The wait can be a little long but you are well advised that the meal is prepared fresh from when you order. It's a little more expensive than neighbouring pubs but it's worth it.

Greeted nicely by an older blonde waitress. The table was fine for 6, but as there were 8 of us they stuck a much smaller, odd shaped, table at the end, which ended up pretty much isolating 2 people. The decor is very much the cheap pub look.I ordered steak and ribs. The ribs were lovely, the chips were nice, but the medium steak i requested was so rare it almost got up and walked off my plate. As it was so full of gristle and sinew I literally couldn't get my steak knife through most of it. I got about 3 mouthfuls then couldn't eat any more. At no point did any of the waitresses stop to ask if we were ok or if we'd like to order any drinks.My desert was a banana sundae and it was lovely. Very big. A few of my friends didn't bother with desert as they were told the kitchen had ran out of both chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. A pub quiz suddenly started halfway through dinner, which kind of ruined the rest of the meal as we couldn't feel free to chat and laugh too much. I definitely wouldn't bother going back.

Dropped in for a drink tonight and ended up having a meal. The fish and chips were excellent. The fish was fresh and the batter crispy. Asked for a salad instead of peas and it was sorted for me. Could have had smoked haddock instead of battered haddock. Well worth a visit. Staff friendly and helpful. Good selection of beer. The restaurant will soon be renovated in keeping with the rest of the pub.

A pleasant venue that has been recently refurbished to a good standard and under new management. A friendly and warm reception, the staff couldnt be more helpful. We've enjoyed meals here before and it's good to see standards have been maintained. I had the cod which was a large portion, with lovely crisp and bubbly batter. Sadly let down by undercooked chips. Mum had a children's portion of scampi which was more than enough. Dad has special dietary needs and can't eat solids. He was assured that the soup was smooth but it had lumps in s uho inedible to him. To their credit the waitress and chef apologised and the price taken off the bill. Why not invest in a few quid for a blender for a regular customer? Several varieties of real ale available but the doomsbar selected was not to taste and too cold. Despite small criticisms we enjoyed the experience and look forward to going back

Fourth visit this holiday friendly staff clean resturant cannot fault the food it's home cooked and fresh I've had fish three times and this evening both myself and husband had chicken curry with rice it's well worth a visit people

We called in just on a off chance and we are glad we did.. We Was greeted by a really friendly welcome ... fantastic menu and range of beers lagers and ciders .. And ice cold Guinness on tap... The food is fantastic really really tasty and all home cooked... The portions are big,,the biggest prawn cocktail I've ever had out... If your in the area come to The Waveney you won't be disappointed... Thank you for a lovely meal and a friendly environment

We arrived for our meal about 6pm, we both ordered of the special board. I had Gammon and the wife Lamb Steak. The gammon was sliced quite thin but nearly the size of the plate it was excellent.and so was the Lamb steak.. Our only negative would have been the roast potatoes that were served with the lamb steak seemed to have been frozen ones albeit very nice. The pub seems to be set up more for food than anything else and from the plates i see being brought to other diners this seemed a good thing.as the portions were generous. Also i might add that waitresses served at your table. A nice pub dining experience

After coming back after last visiting 2 years ago had high hopes for this visit. On arrival was greeted by the cheery waitress who gave us our menus and told us she would come and take our order. Sure enough she came took our order and drinks were soon brought over. My wife ordered the chicken carbonara and was looking forward to it. A little while later the waitress came to say they had no tagliatelli but would ordinary pasta be okay. My wife was disappointed with what basically was chicken flavoured pasta with very little taste. I couldn't fault the service but thought that a restaurant of high standing should have the correct ingredients for all dishes. Do think the prices are a bit on the high side. Most expensive meal out on our weeks holiday.

Myself and my partner stayed in Oulton broad four years ago when we got engaged and we went to this pub, we travel down at least once a year to go back to this specific pub because the food is top quality, staff are lovely and the portions are immense! We went back only two days ago and nothing has changed, traveling all the way from kings Lynn just for lunch really does state the obvious. That this place is top notch.

After a first visit to The Waveney I felt I had to write a review regarding the fantastic food, service and welcoming atmosphere.We were a party of 12 including 4 young children, we were welcomed warmly and the children were given high chairs and crayons immediately which meant that the adults could relax and look at the menu.We ordered various dishes and some side orders for the children to be getting on with, these arrived in no time which kept everyone happy! We all mentioned how hot and fresh the food was, and the portions were very generous, this topped off with friendly efficient staff made our visit a very pleasant experience and we will definitely be back!

Hi this meal was fantastic staff were very good / quick , it was very busy we didn't book but still managed to get table , food portions were very good food quality was very good my friends has fish and was size of the plate I had chicken breast very good size , will be eating again here well worth the very cheap prices .

We went for the first time for food as only moved to the area recently. On several occasions we have dropped in for drink, a varied selection of beers and lagers, and have always been welcomed. Had our first meal early on a Friday as the kitchen has been closed for refurbishment and the staff as usual we helpful and friendly. Our steaks were good. One of our party had the friend fish which was not only extremely fresh but the batter was the best they have had in a while. Well worth the money. We have a discount card of 10% for food and 5% drink, which if you think of it is extremely generous. They are going through the costly exercise of furbishing the pub which is not easy when you think of the long hours of trading. Thank you everyone for making our evening pleasant.

I've had several meals from The Waveney including Roast Lamb, Curry, Chilli, Thai Specials and the most delicious, fresh, large creamy flaked and undyed huge piece of Smoke Haddock I have ever had in my life. For an East Coast Boy very familiar with Lowestoft and born in Great Yarmouth to say that, it really is something as being in my Sixties, both towns and villages on the surrounding coastline were havens of smokehouses everywhere when I grew up...alongside bitumen coated corrugated iron sheds with fishermen boiling up crabs, lobsters, prawns and shrimps...my preference being the brown variety. Herring and eels were plentiful as were dabs and flounders caught by rod or handline so with all the haddock, plaice, whiting and soles plus the beautiful Long-Shore Skate and Cod, we were brought up on fish and shellfish. Hence my comment regarding the Smoked Haddock being so good...we know good fish and that was excellent! The staff are very helpful, smart and attentive to service when need to be. If I wanted something rubbish to eat and instantly I would visit McDonald or Kentucky etc. but all my life have quite happily waited in hotels, restaurants and good pubs up to 40 minutes at busy times for a quality meal from fresh produce and well-cooked. I've not had to wait that long once in The Waveney, although I consider a reasonable wait to be a part of the whole eating-out social experience of relaxing. I am a pub traditionalist and happen to prefer the quieter, more cosy atmosphere when out such as when eating at The Waveney where it is a most pleasurable experience and The Loyalty Card is a bonus price reduction in an already reasonably priced menu. In my life I have been to some awful places where they don't care...The Waveney staff do plus I know fresh vegetables having grown them in my gardens and allotments most of my life...they use quality produce and all-in-all a very good place and ambience. I came into the Waveney just for a pint after a long day at work. I looked at the food menu just to see what they had, the barman suggested for me to try the scampi. The waiting time for the food was no longer than 20 minutes and the portion was very reasonable. The food was delicious and full of flavour! (You can tell they don't buy from a wholesaler) the waitress was extremely helpful and pleasant. I will definitely be returning to try some more choices from the menu five Stars

Poor food (sandwich was dry and with very little filling) and staff not very friendly. the décor is HORRIBLE - how could they do this to such a lovely old building? I wont be going back

We live in lowestoft and used to visit the Waveney regularly as the food was good for the price with the 25% discounts, which meant you tolerated the dated decor and carpet held together with electrical tape. Apparently, this pub has changed hands recently, and they have changed their meal discounts. To make the discount more "for locals", the "25% for anyone" discounts have disappeared, and been replaced with a discount card which now only gives you 10% off.... that's a 60%reduction in the discount. This means that the meal prices are now not a million miles from what you pay at other places like Jolly Sailors.So sorry Waveney, we will be taking our business elsewhere from now on, unless this changes.

went in for meal as was passing , was not disappointed wife had white bait for starter i had garlic mushrooms well presented and a very generous portion, main course was Gammon steak , and a chilli with rice, again nice and fresh very good portion, very enjoyable will definitely be going again.

The second day of a midweek treat in the area. We strolled passed the Waveney, we should have kept going. Having seen the menu we decided to try the fish & chips.The cod fillets were over cooked and the fish was less than fresh, the flesh stuck to the batter and the skin also grey in colour, a sign of fish being stored to long before use.We did not complain at the time, but on hindsight we should have.Later that afternoon the meal was soon passed through not a nice comment but the truth.The fact that there was very few custom should have made us aware that there is not a big turnover during the week, fresh food on Fridays & Saturday's becomes poor quality if not sold until Wednesday.We will not be returning.

I visited The Waveney for lunch with family, expecting good food at reasonable prices, but unfortunately would not wish to return. I cannot eat any food containing bell peppers and asked the waitress about various meals on the menu, I had to make a third choice of chicken curry and rice and informed the waitress that I definitely could not eat bell peppers. We had to wait quite some time for our food, even though the pub was reasonably quiet, however, when my curry arrived, the rice was full of peppers and I had to return it. I requested the curry with plain rice and was then informed that there was no rice left in the kitchen - hard to believe a kitchen could not find a serving of plain rice! I had to settle for a jacket potato with the curry which was very unsatisfactory. The staff were apologetic and did not charge for my lunch, but the whole experience was very disappointing, the prices were quite expensive for basic dishes and the restaurant had no atmosphere at all, I definitely will not return!!

Went to the Waveney for Sunday lunch. First time since change of ownership. Lunch was very similar to what we have had previously, average pub food which we enjoyed. Staff were very attentive without being intrusive but there was a long wait between ordering and food coming out and only two small potatoes with roast was poor. What really spoilt a nice family get.together for lunch was that conversation was drowned out by the singer and guitarist. This would have been fine on a Saturday evening out but was too much for Sunday lunchtime

Lovely restaurant, me and my partner go pretty much every other week, we love going either for a meal but sometimes even go later on in the evening for an afters and a drink, gorgeous setting, nice staff and great Food and Service. Would highly recommend this place, lovely for summer evenings too, we sit outside and take our dogs. Lovely Place.

The Waveney serves the most delicious food we regularly eat there and haven't had a negative experience. The staff are extremely approachable and very friendly, genuine staff.You must go to the Tuesday Quiz night ! Again everyone is so friendly and we always have a fantastic fun evening.They have 25% off meals daily which makes it even more value for money .

Best meal I've had this week on the broads. Wish I could come every week. But as I'm on holiday it be to far will defo be back when I'm back in norfork. Everything is homemade, I had lasagne which is best I've ever had and my partner had the salmon, we both loved are meals and the children's meals are good too. The staff are very friendly and in the garden there a play house which kept my daughter happy.

This restaurant continues to impress us compared to how it was previously. The staff are all so friendly and service is very good. There is a great range of food on the menu and special offers every day of the week.Great place to go for a good value meal without losing the quality.

Most of the meals were OK but two of the six of us ordered BBQ spare ribs but what we really got was belly pork which was almost inedible we did complain and the staff were apologetic and nice and did not charge for one meal and part of the other but if you visit make sure the BBQ spare ribs are what they say they are.

The place is very welcoming and lovely! The food is very good, well presented and large portions! Will definitely come back!! Thanks guys!
