The Watering Can in Liverpool

Amazing little find for Mothers Day. Beautiful setting & ambiance. Staff were lovely & food was fresh, delicious & plentiful. Will definitely be returning & would highly recommend!

Extremely disappointed in the Watering can. I visited on the 28th of March with my family for my Uncles birthday. We too our little dog with us too. It states it’s dog friendly? But it really isn’t. We asked for water for my dog but one of the waitresses said “we can’t put water down because it makes the floors slippery”. We brought a birthday cake for my Uncle to light however they won’t allow cakes in the premises because of allergies. Basically they want you to purchase their cakes. Absolutely ridiculous! I had to cut it outside on the bench. I asked for a knife and one of the women said “Have you got that knife”. They make everything a big deal. And to add another nail in the coffin they added a £10 service charge on the bill I asked one of the women to remove it as they didn’t deserve a £10 service charge with those incidents and one of the other waitresses was glaring at us. My mum was the one who noticed. Good job really! The place you can barely swing a cat in. The food was lovely but there are many other places that are just as good for that type of food. The people are miserable not friendly at all! Very overrated for what it is. We won’t be going again and I wouldn’t recommend the place what’s so ever!

Stopped in for lunch and found the food to be pretty average—nothing special, especially when there are much nicer restaurants just a short walk away. What really stood out, though, was the attitude towards customers. I asked if they had WiFi as the signal was bad and was told it’s only for their tills. Fair enough. But when I asked the manager what the options would be if someone wanted to bring a laptop and do a bit of work, the response was shockingly blunt: “We’re about turning tables around here, not letting customers spend all day in here!” I completely understand a business wanting to maximize turnover, but there’s a way to communicate that with a little more professionalism. And yet, moments later, the same manager who dismissed my request plonks herself down at a table next to us to do some work, while staff continuously come over to discuss the day-to-day running of the restaurant who was not pulling weight and which customers were not doing xyz. The hypocrisy and unwelcoming attitude left a bad taste—worse than the food, honestly. Plenty of other places nearby offer better food and a more professional, customer-friendly atmosphere.

Amazing location and lovely food. Service though has been getting worse for the last few months. A lot of the older staff were incredible, would recognise the regulars and always warm and welcoming. The last few times I have been I have been left waiting, not acknowledged, no warmth. This has been at the takeaway window and inside. I went on Friday with my toddler, it was busy in the front area so waited patiently for a table. No smiles, no hellos, no be with you in a moment despite 1 manager and 2 members going past us a couple of times. A team member did then come over, I asked if they had a table just for some cakes. As she led me through the manager told her to take me to the back room and looked as if it was a huge inconvenience. Sat in the back for 25 minutes, there was 2 tables in there which had already been served and we’re eating etc…they finished and left so we had the room all to ourselves. My toddler was complaining as she was hungry so we got up and left. Passed 2 team members and a manager. None of them made any engagement, no thanks, bye now or are you looking to get served. Such a shame as we’ve been going regularly for 3 years now. I can understand one bad experience, 2 we all have bad days but it has been a handful of occasions now and myself and my husband have always been as friendly as possible with the team there. Appreciate its busy but just smile, say hello and if it’s busy just say we can’t take any more walk ins.

Excellent breakfast Excellent service

This little bistro is tucked away at the side of Greenbank park in Liverpool. Inside it’s full of artificial flowers/plants and quirky decor. It’s beautiful. The menu has lots of unusual choices and all the ones I’ve had have been superb. Special shout out for the roast dinners and the hot honey salt and pepper chips.

Definitely worth a visit. Excellent, tasty food at reasonable prices. Good menu choices and if you like cake.... a large selection awaits.

Came with my wife for a birthday brunch. Food and service great as usual. I had the Korean chicken burger and the spicy chips. Both delicious. The chips are a meal in themselves. Good sized portions. My wife had a roast cauliflower with beans and salad, really nice. We finished with one piece of Bakewell between the two, Delicious food. Large Portions. Oh and a fantastic location.

Heard alot about this place. So today I went and checked it. 100 recommend it. Food & Drink = Good quality Cleanliness = Good standard Service = Good I had a latte and some salt and pepper fries.

Visited 11of March @ 1:45pm Fantastic service. Told a member of staff member we were in a rush to the Spire. Food was super quick considering it was so busy there. Food super tasty & a nice propper glass bottle of San Pellegrino to flush it down. Would visit again if in this area. Highly recommended

Random stop here whilst waiting for an appointment. Had an amazing decaf pumpkin spiced latte, enjoyed the surroundings too. Sunny spring weather helped with that.

Nice setting, average under seasoned food, expensive for what it is, considering that there were plenty of waiting on staff the service wasn't attentive( no check backs, no drink refills been offered ). Shame as the restaurant is beautiful. The rest is average as it's best.

We went on Sunday. The roast was amazing. I want the recipe for the gravy and Yorkshire puds. The staff were lovely and very attentive. Nothing was too much to ask for. Definitely be going again to try breakfast next time 🙂

Anyone looking for the perfect Sunday Roast will not be disappointed with this place, it was AMAZING. The presentation, the roast potatoes are perfection, just everything on the plate was! The nice part about the perfect food is the staff who serve it. They are really friendly and can't do enough for you. 100% recommended - but book ahead or you'll be watching those roast dinners go past you!

Went in on Friday. Very disappointing to find 11 cakes on display, however no gluten free options available. Seems to happen quite frequently, always seems to "sold out!"

Went in for a couple of hot chocolates which were OK, but pretty expensive. Receiving a hefty default service charge for a couple of drinks was not expected and certainly not welcome. I can't see myself going back until this is addressed.

Lovely breakfast! They managed to fit us in but maybe better to book on a Saturday morning

Came for lunch with my sister, we love the Watering Can. You might have a little wait for a table if you haven’t booked but it’s worth it. The food is always delish, staff are lovely and the toilets are sparkling. What more could you want. I would give it 10/10. Definitely worth a visit ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Molly was our server and she was attentive, friendly and looked after us the entire time we was there. The food was impecable as always and the atmosphere is lovely. Defo will be returning!

Edit: Just look at the passive aggressive and snooty response from the owner, tells you all you need to know. This was a 2* rating, but I'm changing to 1* given that response. Looks better than it tastes and costs. It's a nice little spot visually, but the food is over complicated to the point of being unpleasant. Ingredients seem fresh, but unfortunately they've just not been prepared or cooked well at all. Coffee quality is noticeably poor, I'd guess they use Robusta beans or some sort of cheaper blend. Poor value for money. Waiting times are pretty long (circa 30 minutes). Staff are friendly though. Overall, definitely one to give a miss to, plenty of other cafes and bistros nearby that offer higher quality for the same price, if not lower.

Been here a few times. Good food, great breakfasts and we love the garden shed decor! Georgina made it extra special today with her genuinely good service.

This was our first visit to the Watering Can. We had come with a relative who is a regular. What a lovely experience it was too. The service was excellent and the Sunday lunch was delicious with beautifully cooked roast beef. It was a very busy lunch time but we did not feel any pressure to rush our lunch. We just wish we lived a bit nearer as this would be a favourite place to go. Manny thanks for a lovely day out

Really bad experience. Told there was 'no room' for my pram, despite there being several empty tables. Wasn't made to feel welcome at all, in fact made to feel more of a hindrance. Was told I could walk round the park for 20 minutes to wait (it was -1° outside). When I asked about sitting somewhere that looked relatively empty, I was told by the member of staff who was dealing with us that we couldn't sit there as she didn't want to 'disturb' the other customers. If there are tables available, staff should be accommodating to whoever walks through the door. Unfortunately, we could tell from the get go that she couldn't be bothered. First time parents may already feel anxious about going out with their newborn so to be made to feel like you're in the way is not ideal. Not the first time I've had issues with the service in this place. Can't imagine I'll be going back. The overpriced food doesn't even make up for the bad service.

Got served by a lovely person called Georgina last week:) Her service was amazing and made us feel very welcomed.

Let down as it was full of wet, smelly dogs. I do not like eating a nice meal in the company of lots of dogs, straight from their walks in the wet park. Disgusting, yet I fear I am in the minority as so many people have them and think it’s acceptable to bring them into dining establishments. Great service, staff are wonderful. Coffee was fantastic.

Very adorable restaurant with immaculate service. Their vegan chocolate cake is to die for. Very happy I was able to enjoy one of their Reuben sandwiches while on my Liverpool trip, and hope to enjoy another one on my next!

Went for hot drinks and a cake. Lovely staff and nice space but so overpriced. Nothing that we ordered was good enough to justify the price. Outdoor seating is not available as picture all year. There are some stools outside and you have access to the takeaway menu only.

What a gem. The food was amazing, the cakes were delicious (I ate one as part of my lunch and took another way with me) and all for a very reasonable price. The staff were really friendly and the location beautiful. This was exactly what I wanted on a cold December Monday

Food & service really good. Don't be fooled by the use of the words "DOG FRIENDLY" though, at best expect, DOG TOLERANT. I was sat at one of the trendy tables, which seemed like old singer sewing machines, iron or cast iron. No real space underneath for even feet to go comfortably. PAWS ON THE FLOORS rules they have, along with their sister THE WHEELBARROW, means your dog, if it doesn't fit in your bag, won't feel comfortable at all, nor will it be allowed any comforting by you on your lap. No water offered for the dog either, so given every other actual DOG FRIENDLY place I've ever been to, these 2 establishments shouldn't appear in listing's for dog friendly places.

Simply overpriced for what you get

One of the best English breakfasts I've ever had. The place has a beautiful decoration, it is now decorated with a Christmas theme and is very cozy and authentic, very English rustic style. The service is very fast and the attention is friendly. Recommended :)

My grandson and I were served by Grace who is a credit to your establishment. She was pleasant and attentive. We had a bit of banter which is something I enjoy. The meal was plentiful and delicious. We will definitely return.

Came here with a friend for a quick stop off on her birthday. Had the falafel salad (not for the first time) which is always delicious, accompanied by a couple of glasses of prosecco. We were served by Sam, who is forever charming, handsome and witty. Amy also seated us who is always endlessly gracious and welcoming, nothing is ever too much trouble. Love the Watering Can and will return again and again.

It had been snowing today so thought we'd try the Watering Can out as on a normal day you can't get a seat as they seem to be in great demand. We got a nice comfy couch in the conservatory, just next to the radiator with a nice view of Greenbank Park gardens. We just had a coffee as we'd already eaten. I could have spent the afternoon there sitting in a leather sofa, hot radiator and nice view, what more could you ask for on a cold Autumn day. Will have to come back and try out some of the cakes on display by the entrance, they are very tempting. Very original layout with excellent conservatory and pleasant staff.

It's very popular which is always a good sign but we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. We both had a lovely breakfast - one meat and the other vegetarian. Also the way the Watering can is decorated really adds to the atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend.

A pesar de que llegamos un sábado por la mañana ocupado para el desayuno nos quedamos impresionados con lo tranquilo y fluido que era el servicio. Todo se maneja como un reloj y, a pesar de tener que esperar una mesa, no fue demasiado tiempo. El servicio en la mesa era excelente, Grace nuestra camarera era muy amable y súper eficiente, y la comida era preciosa (fue una pena que estábamos demasiado llenos para pastel!).

We booked here for Sunday 10th November for Sunday lunch after visiting on Saturday 9th November for coffee and cake. The service was excellent by our waitress Annabelle who was very attentive and the Sunday Roast was outstanding. We will definitely be back when visiting our daughter at University.

Another unbelievable Sunday roast with a great starter. Had king Prawns starter, there were plenty of prawns saturated in a tomato and chilli sauce, followed by a delicious chicken roast. Great service, never lets me down, spectacular lunch at a decent price. Four of us old friends meeting up every now and then , it was made into a a fab day out by the quality of food and ambience. Well Done Watering Can, thank you so much.

The Watering Can is clean with a nice relaxed atmosphere. We visited at lunchtime and although it was busy we were shown to a table and served by a very polite and happy Annabelle. Once we’d been served Annabelle checked in to see if everything was ok. The food was amazing and very fresh with my wife having fish fingers on Brioche and myself having caesar chicken baguette. Will definitely be returning.
