I’ve visited several times before and really enjoyed the food and the setting. I’ve moved away from Liverpool, but was back visiting family and suggested the Watering Can as a place to grab some food and drink. It was clear from the moment we entered that we were an inconvenience (3 adults and 6 children). One particular member of staff made the whole experience completely unpleasant (one was wonderful). When I asked about lunch for the children, I was told lunch is not until 12. (This was about 11:50). I said that’s fine. They then decided lunch wouldn’t be until 12:20. And later this was changed to 12:30. I got the message that we weren’t welcome and we went elsewhere for our meal. Unfortunately I won’t be returning. The sour faced waitress who came with the bill told me they had added an optional 10% service charge. I was too embarrassed by the whole experience and just nodded, paid and tried to get out of the way as quickly as possible.

Been wanting to go for a Sunday roast here for ages, pre booked a table and was not disappointed. The chicken tikka starters were absolutely fab, so tasty and succulent and the roast was one of the best I've had for some time, the side of cauliflower cheese, one word Wow!!

We just can't understand the surly staff member and odd attitude of staff here today and previously. We we're going to eat here but the female waiting staff with dark hair and micro fringe put us off with her surly attitude. We've tried food in the past and thought it overpriced, but wanted to give it another go. However we won't try again due to the aggressive nature of the waitress.

Very disappointed, I’m gluten intolerant the lunch main was very fancy, I requested a club sandwich from the main menu as I didn’t want a full meal with gluten free bread, which I know they have as gluten free toast is on the breakfast menu, and the waiters advised me that the chef couldn’t accommodate my request, very poor as my mum and sister had ordered the club sandwiches, we left and went somewhere more accommodating, I don’t want to be made to feel different from everyone else and I wasn’t asking for special treatment. Felt very disappointed.

A very High 5, A great setting with Friendly staff with the greeting you would want everytime you visit a Bistro/ Cafe. lovely setting in Greenbank park, i choose the Special which was Fishcake a rice and Brocoli in a teriyaki sauce, this was a small plate so got the Haloumi bites, the Rice was Brilliant best ever if you visit go for it, you wont be dissapointed, tried to get the Chef to give up the recipe but not having any of it.

Went to the Watering Can for lunch with my wife. My first visit. Loved the whole atmosphere, the rustic design, and the location Greenbank Park. Staff were great from the start. We had tandoori chicken (really tasted authentic Indian) and a Club Sandwich. I also got a lemon Victoria Sponge which was baked to perfection. Will be coming back soon.

Waited outside to be noticed and seated. I think it would be nicer to be greeted and seated from inside really. Food was great and good portions. Staff were not the most friendly I've come across- quite surly really but efficient non the less. We were surprised to see an added service charge for a small group. I don't like this i find it quite cheeky. I.like to choose wether I feel staff deserve to be tipped .

Wonderful atmosphere and surroundings. Good range of foods, cakes and drinks. Though a little pricey.

NOT THE BEST! Three of us visited for lunch today the food was average at best but the service was slow and staff seemed very uninterested no check if we were enjoying our meal and we paid with the plates still not cleared off I would not return.

Lovely meal, fantastic service from out server Georgia. The restaurant itself is gorgeous with lovely views of a garden. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming.

We won a competition to dine here and it was amazing! We travelled from Barnsley and it was worth it 100%, delicious food, fab service from Georgia and the rest of the staff, fantastic facilities and beautiful venue

Came here for Sunday dinner for my mum's birthday after somewhere we'd booked let us down. We hadn't booked but the staff were really helpful and found us a table. The food and wine were both really nice and I had the best nut roast I've ever had, and the perfect amount of gravy.

Had a lovely time, seated as quickly as possible and all staff were lovely, really enjoyed the scallop starter and nut roast dinner for the main, great price at £26 for two courses The nut roast was delicious as was the rest of the dinner, excellent option to have whether you are vegan or just fancy a change from meat with your roast! Shout-out to Georgia in particular who was/is lovely, thank you to everyone at the Watering Can 🥰

Lovely building, staff friendly and welcoming, coffee tasty and the dew small plates we had were really delicious and well presented. Would definitely recommend and visit again. Also loved the fact dogs were welcome. And there is cakes. Thank you.

We just called in after a walk in the park, we normally get a takeaway (wish we had) we only wanted tea & cake, after a bit of a wait, we had a confusing conversation with the waitress about tea for two... that was just what we asked for, and the waitress asked if we wanted two pots, and mistakenly I said how many cups are in the pot and she replied one and a half cups? So I was under the impression it was a large tea pot.... No it was one small pot and we had half a cup of tea each 🙄 cake was mediocre too, so scene set for uneventful experience, yes I may have assumed there would be more tea in the pot, but lack of communication lead to our poor experience, the restaurant does have a nice interior, unsure what meals are like, will maybe stick to takeaway 😔

Dog friendly and staff mostly nice but some are a little bit abrupt with with dogs even slightly in the way, so Dog friendly?

A nice place very genuine but in one word, expensive, some of the food was nice and the place does have ambience but just so over priced, and thr staff need to smile a bit more.

The decor is really cosy and staff are friendly but I was very disappointed with the breakfast. The scrambled eggs were overcooked and lumpy and sooo salty I couldn't eat them. The only sausage they serve has leeks in which I think is unusual on a breakfast and more suited to be served as a dinner item. A nice traditional sausage might have been a better option as leeks don't soften in a Sausage so the texture feels like there's bits of paper when you're chewing. Overall a disappointing experience. Would love to see an improvement

Came here today (9th January) with my friend for a coffee which was lovely and came really quickly. It’s in such a nice spot and we were seated immediately and asked about any allergies and also given free water as soon as we sat down....

Went to for lunch after busy morning. Adam who was serving was very accommodating for my 10 year old daughters dietary requirements asking chef for swap. Food was delicious and filling.

If you haven't been then you must! The Watering Can is quite simply, but profoundly, a magnificent place. I bring my elderly mother here on the same day each week for breakfast. The reason for this review is that the atmosphere is warm, extremely friendly and inviting. Just being shown to the table you get the amazing smell of fresh coffee and look at the beautiful selection of cakes! The menu is clear and the choice is great. There's something for everyone. I really enjoy the coffee which sets me up for the day. The food matches the atmosphere. There are truly some amazing chefs and kitchen staff who work so hard to deliver the very best products for people like us. The front of house staff couldn't be more accommodating. They always go out of their way to ensure that any visit to the Watering Can is a treat and a pleasure. I cannot recommend high enough and I look forward to my regular weekly visit.

Honestly faultless. The setting is fantasic and feels particularly festive! Free glass of bubbly on arrival was an unexpected bonus. The staff are friendly and attentive and great with my slightly under the weather 4 year old. I throughly enjoyed the roast, the flavor and portion size was spot on. Roasties were lovely and garlicy. I want to go back on a crisp frosty day for a walk around the park and some warm food afterwards. Thank you for a very pleasurable experience!

Visited for the second time with a group of friends after swearing I wouldn’t visit again because my first experience was so bad. Gave it another go & was bitterly disappointed again by the staffs rude attitudes. I can only assume that the owners treat their staff very badly & this reflects their treatment of customers. We didn’t enjoy ourselves because every request is met by the waitress with contempt. The atmosphere of the place is awkward & uncomfortable. You almost feel as though the owners must put ridiculous rules in place & then the staff have to enforce them (I.e making people wait behind a rope outside when there are free tables inside.) I actually feel bad for the waitresses. I ordered gluten free bread with my breakfast, then the waitress came back & said that the chef wanted to know if I was celiac to which I stated no but that I was on a medicinal diet. They then brought the food out & the waitress advised that the chef had just given me normal bread for my meal because they were not allowed to give gluten free bread unless I was celiac. I would of changed my order to something else gluten free on the menu if I had of known but to just be brought the breakfast really shocked me. I didn’t eat it & shared my husbands food. Zero customer service. And again, every request is met with hostility which must come from management. I will not be visiting again. I think the owners definitely need to be able to self-reflect because I’ve spoken to many people now who have had negative experiences here. Great location but needs to be managed better.

The venue is nice, the food is above average, however the staff are the rudest and most awful people you will find in hospitality. A cold and inhospitable experience. Avoid.

Great experience. Not very mobile so great that we could park right outside. Father in law had not been out for a very long time and really enjoyed the fantastic burger (not just any burger!). Brilliant service from Lisa! She is a star! Very friendly...

We are so fussy about going out for a roast dinner because they are never as good as making it at home…. But the Watering Can changes all of that! Every element of the roast is perfect! It’s obviously all homemade and just tastes superb,...

This review is in reference to one I posted earlier in 2023, but later removed. Here's why. My best friend and I had breakfast at The Watering Can, as we have done on numerous occasions but not been there in some time. When we did on that occasion, we both noted that our plates were far more sparse than they had been in the past. I said this in a review, which was responded to by the owner. He, came up with numerous excuses, the best being that the large "crockery" made the portions look smaller. Anyway, I relented and deleted my review, because I felt bad. However, after returning there for the first time with my friend last week. I stand by my reduced portions review. Not to mention the wait time, the luke warm food on this occasion, and their mandatory service charge on top of what is an already expensive meal. £40 for two breakfasts with coffee, tea a d a soft drink. I will never eat there again.

Had breakfast whilst visiting our daughter who is currently at Greenbank student accommodation. Service was faultless and breakfast delicious. I am a coeliac and they obviously take allergies very seriously. I can imagine this place would be nice at any point of the day and...

I support local business but not this one. We would not come back again. 1) Customers have to queue outside to wait in the cold on a reserved table despite the cafe is empty and the table is ready. Not sure why? 2) Given wrong set of Sunday roast menu. There are a few things they do not offer on the menu today. We ordered the food and 10 mins later they then tell us they don't have it and told us the menu was wrong. Very disppointing! 3) They try to serve us a starter assuming we ordered it and we have been given no option. 4) Yorkshire puddings were served stone cold. We had to send them back. Guess what? They reheat them and send it back out. The Yorkshire pudding looks flat and mushy. Surely they should give the customer new ones. How much does a few Yorkshire pudding cost? See picture. 5) They try to over charge us despite they said they would give us some discount with all the issues they had. However, We do not go to a cafe wanting a 10% discount off. And it wasn't even 10% because we paid £40 deposit to secure a reservation and the 10% cannot be applied to the money already paid. We go there looking forward to a nice meal with friends and expecting good food and service. I expect myself to pay the full price and tips if they can deliver. It was a very disappointing experience to pay £26 for a Sunday roast. There are better local restaurants serving better food with better service.

I really love this place but unfortunately they put on service charge that is not discretionary . Also even if we swap fried egg to scrambled they charge 1.50 and they don’t make you aware Other then that it’s lovely

We love The Watering Can, it's such a lovely cafe/restaurant the setting is just stunning. The food is fantastic and on our latest visit we tried the Sunday roast - incredible. We also always have to pick up some slices of cake to take home....

We were going in for my boyfriend’s birthday lunch today and we’re met with a really rude waitress who told us off for not waiting behind the rope, we hadn’t been before so didn’t realise and the gate was open so she could have told us in a nicer way. Ended up leaving and not eating because it ruined our mood

Went for an impromptu breakfast this morning and found myself at the watering can. The vegetarian breakfast was good, a nice variety compared to other places which was tasty. We got to sit at the back of the restaurant, where Christmas was out in full...

Popped in on a friend's recommendation and we stayed for a second hot drink and cakes (I chose the dark chocolate and ginger cake which was absolutely gorgeous). The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, very comfortable and beautiful to look at down to every detail. All the staff were lovely and friendly and Adam our server was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be returning.

What a lovely place! Went for a walk with the dogs and stopped for a cuppa and some cake. Selection of cakes was fab. Service and staff fabulous; nothing too much trouble. Lovely, welcoming atmosphere including allowing dogs in. Would highly recommend 👌

Visited the watering can many times, always enjoyed it, and have introduced friends and family to the place. Visited today with my parents and small dog - we had a lovely lunch that was ruined when the waitress was rude. I’d picked my dog up due to her eating stuff on the floor, she was nowhere near the table. The waitress came over and said ‘put the dog on the floor’. I had no issue with her asking this. However the execution was extremely rude and abrupt. To then put a 10% service charge on, and ask you on the spot whilst holding the card reader makes you feel awkward. Should’ve asked her to remove it. *response to owner - we were not told this on arrival! Like I said I totally understand why you’d ask this. However your server’s tone was rude, then the cheek to put a 10% service charge on! Don’t be in a customer service job if you’re terrible at being friendly*

We booked a table at The Watering Can for Sunday afternoon after we had seen photos of the roasts advertised on Facebook. We ordered the beef roast dinner, the meat was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Nice selection of vegetables and a lovely big homemade yorkshire pudding, the gravy could of been slightly thicker but that is just my personal preference. This is one of the best roasts I have tasted so far! My son has a severe nut allergy and my mum had missed phone calls from the management about his allergy and how they could accommodate him. We didn’t want to take the chance ordering him any food as we were made aware the kitchen contained lots of different nuts and we couldn’t be 100% he wouldn’t have reacted to something, so instead of my son going hungry the owner went and picked him up a different meal from somewhere else! We have never come across this service anywhere before, he was so happy as he is very anxious about having a possible reaction when eating out. The service was very fast and the lady serving us was very polite and friendly. Thank you so much, we really appreciated your kindness 😊

I've always had a great experience inside the restaurant when you can get a table. The takeaway drinks are not as consistent as I would like, paying £5.25 for a hot chocolate should mean it's hot and well presented, but felt instead like it was hastily thrown together.

Expected people to wait outside for 10 minutes in a rain storm. No coffee or food is that good.

The place is really nice & we'll designed, the staff were great too. BUT value for money NO. At best the breakfast was OK but for £12 I was expecting SOMETHING better. And when the bill came we were put on the spot when asked by server... 10% service charge leave it on or take it off. No issue with leaving a tip but putting it on 1st is a little naughty.

I have been visiting the local hospital over the last several months and have used this restaurant on numerous occasions. The staff are all brilliant; the food is lovely, the cake even better! The consistency is fantastic as it’s a high standard to regularly meet.

I only had coffees and cake but I think you are missing a trick by not serving scones with jam and cream

What a wonderful accidental find! The chicken was delicious and a wide choice of cakes for dessert!

Called in today with my wife with the intention of having a glass of wine and going closer to home for a bite to eat. So glad we stayed! The burger is simply delicious especially with the truffle and parmesan fries and the chicken supreme my wife had was top notch,we followed it with a slice of carrot and pecan cake and a passion fruit martini! I also have to give Lisa our waitress a big shout as she is a credit to the place. We'll definitely be back!😉

Impromptu visit...food absolutely amazing..we had beef sandwiches and tikka chicken..I promise you..you'll never taste a better chicken dish..and fab chunky chips...it was divine...great service..not rushed at all..great experience.... and its dog friendly...

What a fab place this is. We have eaten here regularly over the last four years since moving here (we live on Greenbank Road)... we are just so incredibly lucky to have such a lovely restaurant on our door step. I have to say though - please can you bring back the fish and chips! I used to bring my mum every Friday - the Posh Fish Finger is delightful- but your fish and chips were the best in town!

We visited the watering can last Tuesday my wife is gluten free we ordered to sausage one normal and one gluten free on toast and to latte after 10 mins the came back and said they don’t do gluten free sausage so we changed the gluten free one to a bacon one which the arrived ten mins later the toast was not done, cold no butter on it and bacon cold my sausage was ok lattes ok bill was 22 pounds served poor value for money very poor (I wanted to complain but wife said don’t make a fuss so we payed up and went ) would we go back probably for a latte that is about it

The most rude shocking service at takeaway counter. A brown haired young girl who dismissed me as if I was an inconvienece when I kindly asked to order food. Tapping away on the till endlessly. Then was ignored by mulltiple other members of other staff.... all I was trying to do was order my children a cookie. Walked away and left after 10 minutes of standing at the counter waiting to be served.

The breakfast overall was alright but nothing special. I wouldn't queue for it. The bread needs some attention, it was stale, chewy and tasteless.

Steak sandwich was dry and tasteless and at £12 for one ciabatta,I expected better. Also, asked to pay before sandwich was served which seemed strange.

Great location without a doubt. Despite the very long wait for the food to be brought over. Service with very slow and staff looking stressed. For the price, the breakfast items was awful. Very poor quality and greasy. Toast stale and rock hard. Shamed that they still served the food that wasn't eatable. Definitely no care or pride there, sadly all was left untouched. Did point it out to the manager at the time but didn't seemed to be bothered. Nertherless, being a good christian I still settled the bill in full despite the poor service and shocking quality of food that was served. Unfortunately, cannot recommend the place.

Quite nice place but quite expensive for a coffee shop. £13 for a normal cheeseburger without any sides. Anyway not going back again.

A beautiful location with amazing service and even more amazing cakes. We tried iced mocha coffee, lattes, teas, and several cakes. The coffee cake and Chocolate Norwegian are a bit too sweet for my taste, but we really enjoyed Lemon Drizzle Cake. The staff were very friendly and polite.

I’m really unhappy with this venue firstly they our so rigid with menu they won’t adapt any food the chief won’t do it that’s such a Liam excuses they our paying him won’t do it bye bye customers pay there wages secondly the table next to us was having a birthday they were not allowed to cut cake on premises ? How stupid they would have all orderd coffees so lost out on monte money regardless they sold cakes I’ve never been to a restaurant in all My years were you can’t consume a birthday cake it was so tiny as well This would defo put me off returning what’s going on just cuz your in park businesses can soon take a hit if they don’t adapt to customers needs they had already spent £100 it’s just greed and the food is not all that not a sandwich on menu very disappointed and staff and manager not pleasant very sloppy operation

Heard about this place in a newspaper, it's really quirky and different. Its in a park so great for familes. Booking recommended as it's a bit annoying when you turn up and can't be seated, but if you have children can use the playground right near it to burn off some energy.
