A great evening. Our server Holly was very attentive and friendly. Steaks were perfectly cooked, compliments to the kitchen staff!

I love the location of the waterfront and the search was awesome. So so disappointing that the food was so bad! Chewy steak full of grizzle, dry burger over seasoned fries. Should have taken more photos. Presentation is good but if the food is not good then there is no point! Will be back for drinks but not food!

Fish and chips well cooked but the fish inside the batter was tiny - mean portion for £20! No thanks

Absolutely fantastic evening :-) we came in for my birthday on the 3rd of Jan. I would like to commend Josh our server, he went "above and beyond" to make our time at your establishment very pleasurable. Please pass on our gratitude to him. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the live music was a great touch. Very happy and will be back :-)

Lovely stuff, the waterfront is always our go to and the roast was fantastic Carrie was fabulous and very helpful too when discussing vegetarian options! We will definitely be back for more, the roast was worth every penny

Moules Mariniere.... WOW besides a full bucket full of mussels...., deliciously swimming in garlic, cream and white wine.... was the side of french fries and half a baguette..... 10 x better than going for the steak. All washed down with a pint or Proper Job and a pint of Tribute. Dessert.... sorry no room. Attentive service and extremely good value.

Brilliant Night out. Food was all good. Our dog was allowed. Service was friendly & efficient. We went because Jon Frazel was advertised as playing there as part of their regular Friday evening gig sessions. It was all superb & we left very happy. Thank You. We will be back

Waitress was excellent but the food was a let down. One meal sent back as it was cold and the others were small for what we paid.

Went on Christmas Day. The 3 course meal was great and the staff was fantastic. The only let down was the wait. Sometimes we had to wait up to 30 minutes between courses. Better planning or more staff was needed.

Booked for Christmas day lunch. Although the meal wasn't cheap - it IS Christmas day and it's completely understandable. The portions are also generous, we didn't need any dinner 😂. Fresh bread was an incredibly welcome surprise before the starter came out, food was all fresh, turkey wasn't dry! My only criticism is that the Yorkshire puddings were a bit dry and tasteless, my husband said his main meal was a little too salty but I think this may have been a batch of gravy as mine was lovely. The staff were faultless, fantastic service, attentive without being intrusive, a real credit to their team. Would definitely recommend and would book again.

I had a roast pork Sunday lunch, half way through I nearly choked there was a hair on the meat, the front of house gave me a water, yet nothing was said about the hair in my 25 pound lunch. Will be awhile till I go there again.

I don't normally write reviews but today is needed. Today was my family Christmas meal. I was so excited for my family to try your food and experience the service we had received last time..... unfortunately today was a completely different experience. It started off poor as you didnt seem to have any starters on your menu, 3 times starter orders we're changed. The service was slow, very under staffed for the amount of bookings taken. The room we were in, was over booked making it incredibly loud, not enjoyable at all. Dogs barking every 5 minutes, not acceptable. I personally think people with dogs should be put in a separate room or no dogs. Three of the party had roast beef, absolutely disgusting. I don't know whether the beef was off, boiled or a cheap cut but it was vile. For the prices being charged, I expect better than that. I did express this to a lovely waiter and she did apologise and take some money off the bill. I feel there was a slight greed to bookings taken and no consideration for staff or customers, poor management. One of the party that had the beef is heavily pregnant, I just hope she doesn't become ill. Unfortunately due to today's experience, we will not be back, such a shame.

Only dropped in on the off chance that they were able to squeeze 2 adults and a 5 month old in for a Sunday lunch.. the were RAMMED.... initially the waiter said "we're really quite full this week... give me a minute..." we were on Google looking for somewhere else and half way out the door and he said.... do you mind sitting in the bar area and we will get you a high chair .... Fantastic food.... brilliant service even at short notice... I feel we made friends whilst there too even in one visit... Thank you waterfront.... already got a table booked in 2 weeks .... see you all again soon!!

Hadn't been before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Atmosphere was great, as was the location. The food surpassed my expectations. I had a rare-cooked 8oz rump steak with chips, with tomatoes and salad, and all of it was extremely nice. The others on my table also said they enjoyed the food. When I went to pay for the whole table, I was genuinely surprised at how good the cost was, given the quality of our food. The staff were amazing, our table was served by Holly and Oscar and both of them were patient with us and took great care of us whilst we were dining. All of the staff I spoke to though were also really friendly.

When this place opened, many, many moons ago, it was a nice, quiet pub, intimate even. Great views and location and a real go to place. Sadly economics took over, unsurprisingly, and it is now all about cramming them in, indoors and out, and getting the turnover. No blame attached, that's life, however it has effectively spoiled it for me and the many like me who fondly remember it as it was.

Hadn't been for years and went as couple for a late lunch and had the filled peppers, calimari, followed by the fish and chips. I personally felt the chips could of done with another 60seconds in the fryer but, the food was great and not rushed at all between courses. Really friendly staff and a lovely relaxed ambience looking out to Drakes Island. Not cheap but well worth a visit.

Food was good, our first choice vegetarian option was sold out but we still had a nice meal. Izzy was lovely and very helpful despite it being a very busy Sunday lunchtime.

First time coming here, being gluten free it’s normally difficult to find places to eat. However, I had fish and chips which was amazing. Elle served our table and was great throughout. Always catered to our needs and is a credit to this place. Thankyou

We came here with family visiting this evening (Sunday) thinking it would be lovely as it was recommended. The roast itself was lovely however after our main meal we felt totally abandoned which was very disappointing. Not once did we get asked if we wanted another drink, they were empty for ages and not once did we get asked if we wanted desserts… Overall disappointing, I went and found a server and asked if we could be acknowledged and he told me the waitress left and told nobody anything. A shame really as the food was yummy but we didn’t stay for any dessert as we were put off. Wouldn’t recommend.

Imogen, our customer host, was polite, knowledgeable and engaging. It took nearly forty mins for our meals to arrive. The menu suggested a much more special meal than was presented, ie the roast potatoes were ordinary, not crispy and no sign of rosemary etc. As there were four of us, there were two vegetable side dishes, one did not include cauliflower cheese as indicated on the menu. My wife and I had the Brie and mushroom wellington - not a wellington, more a pasty/pie. The explanation given by another member of staff for the missing cauliflower cheese was that it was excluded as we had the vegan meal. A portion of cauliflower cheese eventually arrived and the member of staff confirmed that it would not be added to the bill. Firstly, the meal was not vegan and secondly, the menu said it was included in the price. Our meals and the two carvery meals our family had were decidedly lukewarm and definitely not hot. According to the menu the carvery roast pork had salt and pepper crackling - there was none. We asked the same member of staff about whether some could be provided. She went to find out but the response was that all the cracking was soft. We did not see Imogen again during the meal and although we were served by other staff the service, although polite, was not great. My wife and I had taken our family out for a Sunday treat and unfortunately, it was very disappointing. I would not recommend The Waterfront for a traditional Sunday meal.

What a wonderful evening. Casey and April were as warm and welcoming (General Manager and Assistant Manager). Head chef Scott took the trouble to ask how we like our steaks and cooked them perfectly to our tastes, later served by GM Casey. The Merlot was a smooth delight and not at all heady. This venue offers all you could ask for, and the staff smile naturally. They really are all a credit to St. Austell. If that wasn't enough it's a wonderfully warm environment with tasteful decor and good lighting. It'll be our new go to.

I went there to confirm my Christmas booking and book in my food order. The Waterfront pub is still as nice as when I first ever went there. It's always presented nicely, the staff are always willing to help where they can. The decor is nicely done and upto date giving a nice relaxed atmosphere with an array of calmness and peace so you can really enjoy your meal. With low music playing in the background so you can talk nice without having to shout over the music. The only thing that has changed is many of the staff who are vibrate with lovely smiles on their faces, when they greet you.

Such a lovely location, right on the water front. Service was perfect, lovely young guy was very friendly and efficient. Coffee was perfect too!

A nostalgic visit back to this beautiful pub which was brought the university memories flooding back... it's still as great as ever and I will never get tired of those views over the harbour views, shame it wasn't back in the summer as the weather was typical Plymouth in November!  If you're lucky to visit in this place in the summer make sure to grab a feat outside, rewinding the years we used to sit here and drink snake bite and black every Sunday haha- the food was always great but but a bit disappointed with the Sunday lunch- so we’re the girls. we did have a late booking and the food had clearly been left out a while as we all thought it was quite dry, especially their potato's. It is a little on the pricey end of the things, particularly for that area, but the friendliness and views and the building itself still make it one of my favourite pubs and will always love returning!!

Delicious food with really attentive service

A wonderful time for the family, from 91 years of age to 2 years of age. Easy booking, very efficient and friendly service, with great food. Our server was so kind to both the kids and our elderly Mum, with such good humour and patience. The inside gave a feeling of warmth and comfort as we looked out onto the wonderful view. The food arrived promptly, was ample in it's size and satisfied all concerned. A good selection of beers satisfied my Godson and Brother-In-Law. Access for my elderly Mum was so good, very easy access to the table and the facilities. Our only regret was not bringing the dog as well! All in all an excellent experience, we have plans to return with the same group to celebrate the festive season. Thank you.

Five of us had a breakfast here today. Excellent service and food. I had the fruit pancake stack with bacon and highly recommend it. The full breakfasts and scrambled eggs with salmon were equally enjoyed. Definitely recommend for breakfast and the view is a bonus

Appaling service, my husband and I went there to have lunch. We sat there for about 15 minutes, no one came. I went to the bar asking whether anyone was serving. It was quiet, so no reason for no one to turn up. Someone eventually did come to take our order. We ordered the chicken with crushed new potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables. The potatoes were lukewarm, there were 2 beans and 2 pieces of pakchoy as vegetables. The chicken was OK, the sauce very watery. I'm not a great eater but was left still hungry as the portion was minute. We then decided to have a pudding as we were both still hungry. We decided on the Belgian waffle. Very disappointing. It was very chewy and we had difficulty in getting our knife to cut it. A very disappointing lunch, we certainly won't go there again! Very expensive for what it was.

We went on Sunday lunch time on 27 October 24. Weather was great and it was busy. We ordered an americano and a cortado. It took 30 mins to arrive and that was after a reminder at 15 mins when I was told it was being made at that time. After more chasing the coffee did arrive but it was lukewarm to cool. The waitress did offer a replacement but we could not face the misery again. ☹️

Stunning views overlooking the sea with your drink

Went for a family dinner in October 2024. The place was very busy when we arrived, but we were shown to our table quickly and presented with a broad menu, including some good options for the vegans in our party. Drinks were brought to the table and when we'd ordered, the service was very good. I had the cod and chips, which was actually much better than I'd anticipated as restaurants often try to over-complicate that simple dish. My only complaint was that it was very noisy in the dining room, not helped by some live, thankfully acoustic, music being performed by a young woman. I'm sure the music was lovely, but live music when I'm eating, when the noise level is already high, isn't for me.

Unreal! The place is one of the best eateries in the city.

Absolutely amazing Sunday roast. Great view of the sea. Was too cold to sit in the beer garden but had large outdoor seating area. Food was great. Service was a little slow, especially as didn’t seem too busy. Staff were nice and friendly. Good choice of drinks.

Visited The Waterfront for the first time over the weekend as a treat with my wife, and it was a great place to go and eat and drink. Lovely food, a great selection of drinks and a really good atmosphere and location. The service was really good and the prices were really reasonable. We will be looking to back for sure!

We were a party of four visiting for lunch, the restaurant and the location are beautiful with stunning views. The staff were very welcoming and professional. The food was absolutely outstanding, overall an amazing experience at this wonderful restaurant!

We had a great Sunday Roast for my daughter’s birthday. Ourselves and our dogs were made very welcome. Our waitress Carrie looked after us throughout our meal and nothing was too much trouble. Also the concierge was also excellent on our arrival and seated us early. We will definitely be back.

Booked for 18 guests to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday. Great booking process, was able to have the cake delivered earlier in the day too. Our main server was Elliott, very attentive, always checking if we needed anything. The food arrived promptly and was delicious. The cake was brough in with candles ablaze, rounding off a great evening. Thanks to all the servers and Isobel for making the evening so great.
