The Waterfront Pub and Eating House in Plymouth

Nice venue, but I wasn't impressed with the service. Asked for drinks and nibbles whilst we looked at the menu, which we got, but then we were ignored for a long time until we finally managed to get someone to take our order. Also, ordered the cornish mits, which turned put to be a plate of potatoes!! My fault for not asking, but I was still surprised that's all it was. Good starter, good wine and my friend's main was nice. I also made a note that it was my birthday when I booked, but no recognition of that - perhaps expecting too much?

We had a fantastic evening here last night with family celebrating a birthday. Firstly, I would like to say how lovely, welcoming, patient and friendly the staff are here. The Scottish gent looking after us was absolutely wonderful, was patient with the group getting food and drinks sorted etc and did it with a smile and good humour, he is a credit to your company, and we would to thank him. The food was really nice, 14 starters and mains served hot, together and no complaints from anyone, and that’s a rare good thing. I think the pie was the best but the goat curry got shared around a lot to try. Gorgeous evening too weather wise and outside must be the best spot in Plymouth next to the sea. Thank you for being great.

Our first time here for food. Full breakfast menu, very accommodating to changes and extras to the meals. Would have been 5 stars if not for overdone poached eggs. And lovely view.

Decided to ppp down the Hoe for a spot of breakfast on a lovely bank holiday Monday. Many venues we couldn't get the electric wheelchair down to so settled on here. Breakfast was £11.75 and buy one get the 2nd half price. The breakfast was spot on, all of having the full English, allowing the fussy few to swap items. The only slight issue was no hogs pudding, that was not even mentioned when ordering. Everything else was lovely though and maybe we got an extra hash browns or bit of bacon instead 🤷 The lovely sunny views of the ocean made it a great spot before the footy.

Came for lunch was lovely! Served by Elle who was very smiley and polite. Great service! will come again

The Waterfront is a beautiful located pub that always delivers first class food, today was no exception. Our waiter Josh was awesome, made us feel welcome and not rushed in any way. The food was beautifully presented and full of flavour. I had the roast belly pork and my partner had the fish and chips. I highly recommend this pub. Well done Josh for your excellent service

Wow what an amazing Easter Sunday roast. We have eaten in a lot of restaurants in Plymouth but this has been the best Sunday roast by far. The service, food and staff were fantastic most of all Gordie who was super attentive, friendly and really looked after us. Would definitely recommend Thank you

Wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. We had the breakfast deal, excellent food & staff were very accommodating.

When the sun is shining, I don't think there's a better outside area for having a beer and looking out onto the water. The only negative was the closure of the Gents toilets which did cause issues on such a busy afternoon.

Lovely food, we had the seafood sharer. Drinks were good. Gordie attended to our needs throughout and was very attentive to our needs and friendly.

Really friendly and professional staff. We are from the breakfast menu which was varied and reasonably priced. Ihad the breakfast bap which was well filled and my wife had the pancakes. Very healthy. Views are amazing. Although we're not from Plymouth we visit the Waterfront every time we are in the area.

Had a really lovely Tuesday evening dinner this week at The Waterfront. We were looked after well by the team and the food was so tasty (Marmite roasted Cornish mids were a triumph)! Service was well timed even though it was fairly busy, we were never left waiting for more than a short moment. We’ll be returning in the near future for sure!

We had a lovely family meal here on Tuesday, with family visiting from out of town. Fantastic service given by Millie, Elliot and Ben- we loved that recommendations were given by Millie for what the meals were and her favourites! Great views, and lovely food. The fish and chips, Spanish chicken and blush sorbet were all amazing- the chefs did an incredible job with the food! We have always had a good experience here, and had no doubts to bring my family here to share it. Thank you!!

Food was lovely and came at a good pace, all the staff were really friendly and didn't leave us waiting for long. Would highly recommend this place for anyone who likes sea food

Very busy, took 4 asks to get table water, it was the first thing we asked for and finally got some when dessert came at the end. Food was amazing though, well done to the kitchen.

Decided to visit the Waterfront today. Ordered drinks and food at the bar and sat outside. Ordered 2 soups and 2 belly pork roasts. After 45 mins of waiting went to ask where food was? 10 minutes later the 2 soups and pork arrived, followed 5 mins later by the shared veg, but no cutlery or condiments. Decided to get own cutlery! Food was tasty, but cold and service was abismal! If I hadn't already paid, I would have left. No apology for lateness of food etc, very disappointed.

Lovely venue, good menu choices & food, dog friendly. Service could be better, shown to a table but not provided with menus & no one came to the table despite staff taking orders.

Table booked for Sunday lunch 3pm, ordered drinks after half an hour and 3 times of asking drinks arrived 3 were incorrect, food turned up 1 he 15 minutes after our booking and everyone's was cold. Then asked for dessert menu another half an hour no one took our orders so we paid bill and left, will not be returning

Busy at peak times so pre-book! Love this place and always recommend it to anyone visiting Plymouth. Dog friendly (they have a whole separate section for dogs so good if you don't like puppos too!) Great food. Always a nice selection of dishes (not always just fish!) Lovely staff. Friendly and cheerful staff (most love dogs too!) Obviously amazing views. Just don't forget the sun cream if you're sitting outside! Summer or Winter The Waterfront is our go to place on West Hoe

Took my wife (and dog) for a birthday celebration. The staff were fantastic and the setting is beautiful. The food was absolutely amazing. Could not fault in any way. Highly recommend dining here.

This is perfectly located on the seaside so you get beautiful view. We visited for lunch on weekday in March so it wasn’t crowded. We enjoyed fish and chips, salmon and prawns fish cake, steak baguette; everything was good. I love the ambience but service was okay. They have plenty of sitting space inside and outside. I would recommend this place for seafood with good food 👍🏼

Food was very good,even our fussy 2year old was satisfied 😊 however our main waitress seemed to wander off and then remembering things and bringing them, but the rest of the staff were great. Agree with someone's comment that needed to go and ask to pay ourselves 😅

Unfortunately the food was tasteless… even my dog turned her nose up to it. The food was clearly packaged and not worth £17 for the Sunday roast. Would not recommend spending the unjustified money and would save your palate especially from the panko belly pork

Food is outstanding. Really good quality and nice portions. Service seemed to go slow after main was served. Eventually had to get a waiters attention to order dessert. Atmosphere was a bit on the noisy side. Battled to hear my own thoughts let alone conversation at the table.

Great location for an evening meal. Delicious food too. Just let down by poor service throughout. I even had to go and ask to pay! This is why I dropped 2 points of my rating. I'd probably come back based on the food and the location but it won't be top of my list.

Busy pub right on the waterfront in Plymouth... food is ok, nothing exceptional, the partner restaurant at the Domes is better and offers a better atmosphere...

Did not take any photos which is unusual for me, but also as it was my birthday I chose not to. Well to say I was disappointed would be putting it lightly. I had booked a table for 5 people, it took at least 10 minutes to be seen to and shown to our table. A waitress took our drinks order, 3 lattes, 1 americano and 1 tea. Then our food order, 3 full English, 1 bacon roll and a side of hash browns, 1 eggs Benedict. 20 minutes later still no drinks. Food came out and they had missed off a full English. Another 10 minute wait. Asked for ketchup that took ages. No cutlery or napkins on the table or brought out with the food. I expressed how unhappy I was, and that It had certainly spoilt the occasion. No I did not receive any recompense!!

Lovely place, beautiful view. Food is great if a bit expensive. Unfortunately our order of hot drinks didn't appear and when I checked back with the bar they had lost my order. It was reasonably quickly sorted, but it was all we came for on this occasion. Previous visits have been lovely and no previous issues. Still well worthy of 4 stars.

Me and My Wife were in the pub yesterday afternoon. I put my pint down on the table but didn’t realise there was a slight slant to it and it subsequently fell off onto my lap and then onto the floor made the right mess. Obviously I felt pretty silly. But the lady member of staff was so friendly she came over right and helped me. And another lady member of staff actually went and got me a fresh pint of Hicks. Immense kindness, they didn’t need to do that but it was so nice. So nice to receive genuine kindness.

Very well organised establishment with great options for food and drink, including a generous Sunday Roast, kids options, and options for dietary requirements. Staff took extra care around our dietary needs which was refreshing to hear/see. Food quality was very high and the entire party left feeling satisfied and rejuvenated. Will be going again next time I'm in Plymouth for sure!

Absolutely delicious loaded hash browns we got 7 and it filled us up for the entire day. Great Coffee and beautiful surroundings. Staff were very friendly. 5 star experience all round

Food was good but the staff wasn’t good to us.

Had a roast there Sunday with my partner and we now have food poisoning from the pork we had. Both extremely unwell. It was the only meal we had all day and we both had symptoms arrive at the same time zones 6/8 hours after the meal. The food wasn’t piping hot wish I sent it back now.

Went there for some drinks, the food menu just wasn’t tempting at the price though. It looks like it would be a lovely place in the middle of summer though

Lovely little spot on the coast went with my partner for valentines and they had all kinds of decor up and roses on the table which made for a nice atmosphere, we were set a table in a room by our selves which the staff was good to make sure we felt like we was being proper look after but it was nice to have the quiet place to ourselves as well, staff were very friendly and quick on drink food took a fair amount of time wasn’t too long definitely didn’t leave us hungry, however the steak was a bit cold but for the price not bad at all the burger was really good with plenty of fries on the side to fill you up as well, then dessert was abit priced up however I was pleasantly surprised by a massive wedge of sticky toffee pudding which was delicious that we both enjoy definitely made up for it, overall great experience on the coast with a lovely ocean view and amazing smiling staff ready to help

I’ve eaten at the Waterfront several times and it’s a fabulous venue. The location is great for views out over Plymouth Sound and the food is delicious. I’ve always found the staff to be very friendly too. The Waterfront in Plymouth & the Haveners in Fowey take some beating for location and food!

I love the location of the waterfront and the search was awesome. So so disappointing that the food was so bad! Chewy steak full of grizzle, dry burger over seasoned fries. Should have taken more photos. Presentation is good but if the food is not good then there is no point! Will be back for drinks but not food!

Absolutely fantastic evening :-) we came in for my birthday on the 3rd of Jan. I would like to commend Josh our server, he went "above and beyond" to make our time at your establishment very pleasurable. Please pass on our gratitude to him. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the live music was a great touch. Very happy and will be back :-)

Lovely stuff, the waterfront is always our go to and the roast was fantastic Carrie was fabulous and very helpful too when discussing vegetarian options! We will definitely be back for more, the roast was worth every penny

WOW besides a full bucket full of mussels...., deliciously swimming in garlic, cream and white wine.... was the side of french fries and half a baguette..... 10 x better than going for the steak. All washed down with a pint or Proper Job and a pint of Tribute. Dessert.... sorry no room. Attentive service and extremely good value.

Brilliant Night out. Food was all good. Our dog was allowed. Service was friendly & efficient. We went because Jon Frazel was advertised as playing there as part of their regular Friday evening gig sessions. It was all superb & we left very happy. Thank You. We will be back

Waitress was excellent but the food was a let down. One meal sent back as it was cold and the others were small for what we paid.

Went on Christmas Day. The 3 course meal was great and the staff was fantastic. The only let down was the wait. Sometimes we had to wait up to 30 minutes between courses. Better planning or more staff was needed.

Booked for Christmas day lunch. Although the meal wasn't cheap - it IS Christmas day and it's completely understandable. The portions are also generous, we didn't need any dinner 😂. Fresh bread was an incredibly welcome surprise before the starter came out, food was all fresh, turkey wasn't dry! My only criticism is that the Yorkshire puddings were a bit dry and tasteless, my husband said his main meal was a little too salty but I think this may have been a batch of gravy as mine was lovely. The staff were faultless, fantastic service, attentive without being intrusive, a real credit to their team. Would definitely recommend and would book again.

I don't normally write reviews but today is needed. Today was my family Christmas meal. I was so excited for my family to try your food and experience the service we had received last time..... unfortunately today was a completely different experience. It started off poor as you didnt seem to have any starters on your menu, 3 times starter orders we're changed. The service was slow, very under staffed for the amount of bookings taken. The room we were in, was over booked making it incredibly loud, not enjoyable at all. Dogs barking every 5 minutes, not acceptable. I personally think people with dogs should be put in a separate room or no dogs. Three of the party had roast beef, absolutely disgusting. I don't know whether the beef was off, boiled or a cheap cut but it was vile. For the prices being charged, I expect better than that. I did express this to a lovely waiter and she did apologise and take some money off the bill. I feel there was a slight greed to bookings taken and no consideration for staff or customers, poor management. One of the party that had the beef is heavily pregnant, I just hope she doesn't become ill. Unfortunately due to today's experience, we will not be back, such a shame.

I had a roast pork Sunday lunch, half way through I nearly choked there was a hair on the meat, the front of house gave me a water, yet nothing was said about the hair in my 25 pound lunch. Will be awhile till I go there again.

Only dropped in on the off chance that they were able to squeeze 2 adults and a 5 month old in for a Sunday lunch.. the were RAMMED.... initially the waiter said "we're really quite full this week... give me a minute..." we were on Google looking for somewhere else and half way out the door and he said.... do you mind sitting in the bar area and we will get you a high chair .... Fantastic food.... brilliant service even at short notice... I feel we made friends whilst there too even in one visit... Thank you waterfront.... already got a table booked in 2 weeks .... see you all again soon!!

Hadn't been before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Atmosphere was great, as was the location. The food surpassed my expectations. I had a rare-cooked 8oz rump steak with chips, with tomatoes and salad, and all of it was extremely nice. The others on my table also said they enjoyed the food. When I went to pay for the whole table, I was genuinely surprised at how good the cost was, given the quality of our food. The staff were amazing, our table was served by Holly and Oscar and both of them were patient with us and took great care of us whilst we were dining. All of the staff I spoke to though were also really friendly.

When this place opened, many, many moons ago, it was a nice, quiet pub, intimate even. Great views and location and a real go to place. Sadly economics took over, unsurprisingly, and it is now all about cramming them in, indoors and out, and getting the turnover. No blame attached, that's life, however it has effectively spoiled it for me and the many like me who fondly remember it as it was.

Hadn't been for years and went as couple for a late lunch and had the filled peppers, calimari, followed by the fish and chips. I personally felt the chips could of done with another 60seconds in the fryer but, the food was great and not rushed at all between courses. Really friendly staff and a lovely relaxed ambience looking out to Drakes Island. Not cheap but well worth a visit.
