Great fish, consistent. Quality good. Expect to wait for fresh food. Wait worth it.

Bought 2 large fish and chips around 1.45 on Tuesday 18th Feb. Both lots of fish had too much grease on. I just had fish, it was ok, but I can't eat the batter. Very disappointed as always been very good.

Proper chewie fish and soggy chips which was very disappointing. Batter onto he fish overcooked also. It's a shame

Worst place for chicken burger no salad or mayo just a dry bread bap and over cooked chicken I will never place a order from you again the chicken burger went in the bin and. We then ordered Chinese takeaway

Fave chippy in Plymouth they offer grilled fish to if you don’t want battered goods! I’d avoid Fridays and Saturdays (too busy and food drops a star at weekends)

Used to be great, not so much now. Perhaps if you order from JustEat. We waited nearly 40 min for 1 med,1 large cod & 2 chips, steady stream of pickups overtook our order. Finally ended up with two warm med cod. Do yourself a favour, order elsewhere.

Waited over 30 minutes and watched as Deliveroo & Just Eat came and went time after time until I finally asked about my order of 2 x regular fish n chips, told them my number only to be told by the young girl wrapping up more food for delivery that they didn’t have a order number 182 to which I said yes you do & showed her my receipt only to get the filthiest look. They then found my order and made it up but the customer service in this country is now becoming rubbish as I wasn’t even asked if they could do anything for me for making me wait so long (all the time my wife & dog were standing outside in the freezing cold).

A nice experience in a traditional & professionally run place offering a pleasant service in a friendly welcoming atmosphere.

We ordered haddock and chips early evening. Very busy that night. The food arrived in a large stout paper carrier which was OK but the fish and chips were in a shallow brown cardboard box which had been wrapped tightly in kitchen foil. As soon as we opened the box it was obvious that both the fish batter and all the chips were soggy and damp. The box was 2/3 covered in oily maybe vinegary stains. This had the inevitable effect of reducing most of the attractions of fish and chips. The paper bag and the cardboard box are both sensible ways of keeping the chips and the batter crispy. The foil destroyed it all, even if there were good intentions of keeping it all warm. Whenever I use a chip shop, I turn away plastic carriers and decline advance salt and vinegar. Perillas or their delivery teams need to scrap the foil. About half the haddock survived in a palatable condition.

Fish seemed overly greasy. When I visited the staff seemed to be undergoing training and it took a while to be served. Overall took about 40 mins from start to finish. My order seemed to get mixed up as another customer was being asked if they wanted salt and vinegar on my cod and chips. Recent visits here don't seem to go smoothly. If you order online they won't cook until you get there! Almost pointless to order online. That being said I heard the cook say they start cooking when the order comes in, which isn't the case because I had to wait 30 mins to get what I ordered online and the scheduled pick-up time was 6 pm.

Lovely fish and chips, a little cold but that was due delivery time and not Perillas

We ate in and the ladies doing table service couldn't have been nicer. Big portions and friendly staff! They do gluten free one day a week as well. Enjoyed having lunch there and will come again.

picked my food up today and the service was terrible. literally just told the young girl i ordered on the app and she looked at me blankly I re iterated i have ordered online and was just left standing in the front of the queue? so confused but yea better customer service please.food is usually tatsy but this needs improvement

Waited 20 mins for chips and curry. Staff didn’t even acknowledge me when I was stood at the til for 5 minutes. Wasn’t that busy. Nice curry though

Been twice now first time got box with fish, chips , sausage and side for £13 something brilliant. Second time we came the chips tasted like they'd been refried but disappointing but will definitely go again.

I haven't visited for a while and there have been some changes to the set up. It felt and looked fresh and clean. The food was as good as ever. The staff were friendly.

The delivery driver was very nice, even closed the door for me because I had my hands full. The food was well wrapped and I can’t wait to eat it :))

Visited the shop on 24/8/24 and ordered two cod & chips with a sausage (quite a simple order for a well established chip shop, you might think....?) From the time shown on the receipt, I then had to wait 36 minutes before the food was ready. There were just four customers ahead of me - one asked for her money back due to the delay. The five members of staff all 'appeared' to be busy, but nothing was actually happening (except a steady flow of Deliveroo (?) collections, which were taking clear priority over the customers who had taken the trouble to visit the shop in person). The food was tasty but the portions very small - standard cod & chips at £9.50 disappointedly looked like a child's size. Over half an hour's wait for such a basic order is unacceptable, especially when the portion size is poor and the business opened 111 years ago (as promoted on the timed Perillas receipt). In conclusion I'd try another chippy, certainly not impressed with this one, Perillas really must try harder !!

Perillas is a consistently good fish and chip restaurant and take-away just off Mutley Plain, Plymouth. We have been coming here on-and-off for 20 years and the quality of food, and fair prices bring us back again and again. Yes, I know there are lots of chippies in Plymouth, but only one Perillas ... give it a try - you won't be disappointed

Good and served well the food keeps hot in the boxes and good quality products used. We go here regularly and also have delivered which has always been a great service.

We decided to get fish and chips, after my daughters swimming lesson on her first birthday. We pre orderd as for convenience we didn’t want to wait around. As anyone with 1 year old baby will understand. I orderd at 5:15 and was asked what time I wanted collection. I said 5:45, half an hour. When I arrived at 5:50 my order had been written on a piece of paper. But nothing had been done about it. As if this was normal practice. We basically dropped to back of the que and were kept waiting for half an hour. While everyone else in the shop was served before us and multiple deliveroo orders were made and collected. My blood was boiling luckily my daughter was good as gold in the car. With her mum. The fact this seemed to be normal practice to them was bizarre. It’s a complete shambles and the food was mediocre when we did get it. I will definitely never ever be giving them my business again. The level of incompetence just baffled me. Bunch of idiots

The whole place is fab. When under obvious stress at busy times the smcountet staff remained cool and polite. Food as ever was delicious.

I use Perillas pretty much every week via deliveroo to order meals for the residents where I work. The food always arrives hot, portion sizes are good and is loved by all! Staff are always really helpful if I ring directly with a request.

Fish is always lovely, large portions and excellent quality and from local boats which is great to see. There are lots of choices of fish, battered cod and hake, grilled or battered haddock and some nice pies and specials like chilli too as well as all the traditional chippy classics. Chips used to be consistently amazing but lately they have been a bit up and down, sometimes a little undercooked and if you’re unlucky, the odd green one. Chips yesterday 8/7/24 were particularly bad I’m afraid but I’ve been going there years and they have more good days than bad days so it’s a positive experience overall - still among the best in town. Service is normally good but I had a wrong order yesterday which is rare and staff put it right when I returned, mistakes happen everywhere from time to time.

My 'go to' for fish & Chips. Never disappointed. Fresh fish, always lovely and white. Perfect portion sizes. Highly recommend.

Always our go to place for fish and chips in Plymouth, everything cooked to order and great variety, I often get the sea bass which is always cooked perfectly and chips are always incredible, good size portions for reasonable prices.

A long established business. Perillas offer a wide range of products freshly prepared to order. Good portion sizes, especially the fish and chips. The batter is consistent and crispy. There are additional menu choices like Hake. There is a good team of staff, who are polite and provide good service to customers. Some staff are in the premises well before opening time to ensure everything is clean and ready for business. The number of customers is testament to the popularity of Perillas.

the best tasting fish and chips in Plymouth. However nowhere free to park, and what with Plymouth city Council being so hot on issuing fines these days, we were issued with a £35 parking fine with no warning from the parking attendant. So perhaps Perillas and PCC can negotiate some parking arrangements. We wont be using this store again unless this is resolved. Also the establishment is now well used by Deliveroo etc., so waiting times seem to be affected as a result

I absolutely love this local fish and chips shop! Their fish and chips are fantastic, always fresh and delicious. The batter is perfectly crispy, and the fish is tender and flavorful. What makes it even better is their incredibly fast delivery service. We never have to wait long; our order always arrives quickly and piping hot. Highly recommend!

Beautiful grilled Hake with copious chips. Friendly staff as good as anything on the seafront but substantially better value.

I live in Spain and always look forward to my fish & chips when I'm back in the UK. Perillas didn't disappoint. Everything freshly made despite arriving 5 minutes before closing.

I ordered cod chips and curry sauce. Really good generous portions. Good quality definitely worth a visit. My only issue was they put a sheet of grease proof paper down but by the time I got home my chips and fish was stuck to it so next time I'll ask for that to be removed. 5 stars

Was ordering on the app for quickness, thought I would call to double check as they advertise as cater for gluten free. Called Perillas asked which food was gluten free , to be told that their gluten free food is fried in the same fryer as food with gluten !!!!!!!! How stupid are they !!!! This can cause a massive reaction to someone who is unable to have gluten in their diet .. If you don't understand about gluten free food and what happens to a person with Cross contamination you shouldn't be able to sell it ...Staff and Owner need training on allergies...

Large cod regular chips & curry sauce is pure quality. Cannot get enough of that takeaway box. Brilliant chippie.

Perillas serve the most delicious fish and chips I've tasted in years! The chips are light and fluffy, and the fish boasts a crispy texture and bursts with flavour without being greasy at all. Plus, the portion size is impressively generous. I had my nephew with me, and they even gave him and his brother a lollypop 🥰 Highly recommended! 5/5

Very oily fish, chips undercooked I wouldn’t go back, staff were friendly though.

Every time we buy from Perillas we promise to avoid them in the future. The chips are NEVER cooked. Today's were so raw they were inedible.

my experience at Perillas was deeply disappointing. While the establishment may have potential, it is severely undermined by the unprofessionalism and rudeness of its staff. Until there are significant improvements in both service and culinary execution, I cannot recommend this restaurant to others

The fish was cooked OK...The chips could have been fried a bit more ...Chips a bit anemic and firm to sqeese ... Cleanliness 10 .. Difficulty trying park near to fish ...chip shop..

Amazing fish and chips would say the best in plymouth

The fish and chips was good. The one issue was that I had Deliveroo deliver the food and the mushy peas tipped over and spilled.

Unfortunately the service wasn't great; ordered a chips with curry sauce and had to wait whilst others were served before us.

Needed to go out for an unplanned lunch today while at my daughters in Plymouth, didn’t want any of the multitude of kebab’s/pizza/fried chicken in abundance around Mutley so opted for good old Fish ‘n Chips, Google found me Perillas a 9 minute walk away so went for it. “Dine In” was my choice and I gotta say it was a good move, opted for the ‘meal’ option with choice of sides and with a can of drink it all came out at less then £13, a bargain for lovely piece of fish with plenty of chips, ample portion of mushy peas and sliced bread. Could not fault the whole meal and the lunchtime cook/server/assistant was very pleasant, Thoroughly recommended if you are in the mood for Fish ‘n Chips, thanks and I definitely will be going back👍

Ordered the vegan battered sausage. Excitedly bit into what would have been my first “chippie battered” sausage in 14 years. To discover it was meat and not only meat - it was the detritus that makes up a cheap sausage. I cannot explain just how devastated I am I’ve been vomiting for an hour sticking my fingers down my throat, desperate to get any trace of meat out of my system. I rang the shop and was told we were busy it happens accompanied by the most insincere apology ever. So if you are vegetarian or vegan please don’t trust this place despite their new vegetarian options, they obviously don’t care I wouldn’t trust them to keep meat/fish products separated.

Ordered takeaway as pleasantly surprised to see they had increased their vegetarian range and so excited as a vegetarian to have a real chip shop battered (vegan) sausage. Bit straight in and then spat out real sausage. I phoned thinking they may actually care to be greeted with the most insincere apology ever metered with “we were busy” and “it happens”. Well if it happens then I’d advise every vegetarian to never risk it

Ordered for delivery 2x cheesy chips 1x regular chips Received my order with 3 lots of cheesy chips and I am unable to eat cheese. Called the restaurant and they said there was nothing they could do other than refund me and I'd have to reorder. Tried to do that but they then tried to charge me more than the chips for the delivery which i refuse to do so my whole family got to eat and I didn't. Extremely unhappy with the service I received

We quite often treat ourselves to Perillas due to living just round the corner and I have to say it’s one of our favourite chip shops ever. The fish tastes fresh and the batter is crisp and not too greasy. Often with fish and chips you can get sick of the taste but not with Perillas. The staff are so lovely and always chatty!

OMG, it was along time since I ate such horrible food. Although I am somewhat amazed how they are able to serve chips barely above raw, yet dry as f.... Kids sausages were disgusting, even dog didn't want to eat them, and my husband's cheesy chips were tasteless. Not sure what that cheese was made out of. The only somewhat edible food was the burger. -1 if I could. Never again, stay away!

Called into Perillas on my way home. What a change since last time! Counter extended, restaurant gone, sexy staff, and half the business for Deliveroo riders. But the fish and chips, despite the wait, were still first class.

Fish was lovely, but the chips were beyond chunky, they were really thick. Didn’t enjoy them as a few were still hard inside.

What a wonderful Chip shop. The staff are so friendly and helpful. You can have a laugh with them. The food is superb and reasonably priced. There is a loyalty card scheme, but even if there wasn't I'd be there because the atmosphere is first class because of the staff. If you haven't been yet, you must. Don't miss out on this gem.
