The Waterfront Inn in South Norfolk

Had a great time at the waterfront, sat together in the warm atmosphere, first time coming in definitely returning! Huge fan of the steaks, fast and seasoned perfectly! Look forward to the return!

Such a great pub loads of games for the children to be occupied the food was great the small plates were delicious and burgers really great something for everyone we all left full and happy the Halloween decorations are great Thanks everyone

Amazing roast sirloin and massive Yorkshire puddings We came in as a family of 6 we all had delicious roast dinners we cleared the plates then had the sticky toffee puds I struggled to eat my pudding as it’s a very generous portion Friendly waiting team and good bar lady thanks for a lovely meal

What a repugnant landlady, we entered the pub and started with drinks, she clearly controlled her staff and entered the cash register whilst someone took the order and poured the drinks. I assumed the person on the drinks had a disability but not the case, just a landlady micro managing. I asked whilst ordering drinks if they served something on the food menu we enjoy, landlady happily piped up and said yes - and took our money. Once it arrived it had spicy sauce all over it, which is fine, but not something she pointed out or something my kid can eat, she did not tell me it is laced in a sauce and we asked for a plain portion. This caused a riot. The waitress distanced herself seeing what was going to take place, you would have thought I robbed the place. For a dish costing under a tenner, had i known what was coming next - i would have paid the pub £20 for the landlady not talk to us. Rude, ignorant and quite frankly the worst experience i have ever had in a restaurant. She told me i should have read the menu and absolved herself from any responsibility. This was a dish with about 80 pence worth of ingredients straight from the freezer and she was willing to argue for the right to be right! Unbelievable, and yet, having read responses in tripadviser, now believable. The chef even came out for fight. If there is no need to speak to the landlady you will be fine, just dont complain about anything, read the menu, if you cant, get someone to read it to you. I am close to complaining directly to Greene King and i certainly will if i get a repugnant response from the landlady having read some review responses. I visit Diss once a year on returning from the Norfolk Broads and have been here afew times. Cheap and cheerful when you don't open your mouth. Complain at your own risk! You will note this review was not about the food, chef can absolutely cook, just avoid the landlady at any cost. I have a lot more to say but for now i will leave it at that

What a find just passing through Diss and looking through windows could see the Mere out off the back windows that enticed us in. Warm welcome and great food. Lovely terrace overlooking the mere.

Very pleasant atmosphere and good ambience with a lovely view overlooking the Mere. Jess was very friendly and looked after us extremely well, and the handyman was so helpful in helping us access the pub with a wheelchair. The food was delicious and really good value for money. We'll definitely be returning!

We came out for family meal for son’s birthday. The food was hot and fresh and made with love from jack in the kitchen. Abbie on the bar was lovely and welcoming. It’s a friendly pub very relaxed. For a pub chain they go the extra mile. And would recommend to everyone. Thanks for a great night and will see you again soon.

Lovely atmosphere with beautiful views over the mere from the decking, which looks great after the refurbishment. We loved the sharing plates, delicious and really good value 😊

Day off work I’ve popped in for a pint and a catch up with the locals :) The staff were very helpful hence their kitchen being closed for refurbishment, they happily recommended other nice places to eat in the area

Avoid.................. .The landlady was very rude and abrupt with a nasty temper Horrible atmosphere. Will never go back.

Don't order a drink. Don't sit at a table. Don't order from the app. As long as you do all of the above the bar women won't bite your head off.

What a beautiful setting and lovely village. We're about to buy a property in the area, had walk around the streets and came upon this lovely Inn. Friendly staff, lovely establishment, great views and the food was fantastic. The scampi and chips ooh la la! Big fat chunky chips with crispy bread crumbs encasing the scampi, Fabulous. The BBQ chicken and bacon with a bear cheese sauce went down very well. Of course I had to help mum with hers.....This will be a regular once we've moved.

Lovely waterside pub/restaurant in Diss village. Plenty of seating. Need to park in public car park. Reasonable menu choice, good prices. Friendly staff.

We all enjoyed our lunch, food was delicious, love the vegan mushroom chilli and the vegan desert. The only downside was that I couldn’t enjoy a coffee as only cows milk was available, no oat milk or soya. Otherwise would have given 5 stars. Will definitely visit again.

Went in to visit the lovely Sarah as the sun was shining and fancied some food and a cold drink and as always it never disappoints had the sticky chicken and the smashed potatoes and it was delicious! Will be back in soon!

Second visit to this lovely pub in a great location. 6 of us had lunch and all of the food was perfect. The service at the bar and from the Chef was first class. Good selection of drinks available. The menu was extensive and reasonably priced. We will definitely return when in the area next.

Always a pleasure here with very good pub food at quite fair prices. Sharing plates look good. Deserves to be busier than it often is.

Just had the most amazing Sunday roast at The Waterfront in Diss. Pint of IPA and a small bottle of Prosecco. We both had Roast Chicken then followed with Lemon Tart and sticky toffee pudding. Very easy ordering procedure once we had been shown to our table. Bar staff very polite and helpful and the waiting staff were attentive and checked more than once if our meals were OK. Very reasonably priced and well worth the visit .....

I celebrated my birthday today with my family the food was amazing and the service was amazing thank you to the team that took care of me and my family especially lily had such a wonderful time and would definitely come back!!

Food not great, we had been here before about a year ago & the food wasn't great then, but decided to give it another go, 😔 I ordered the plant based burger which I have to say was nice but it said Coleslaw which was supposed to be on the bun, there were about 3 pieces of coleslaw! My husband had the BBQ chicken which he was very disappointed with, it was like it had been taken out of the freezer & Zapped in the microwave, his chips were frozen & tasted old.. 🤢 when I went to the bar to order, there was a queue of about 3 people, the lady being served was having trouble, I think with her card! Anyway the barlady served the man in front of me, while waiting for the other woman to return.. that's fine, but by this time there were about 3 more people behind me, again fine, but she got quite flustered & actually started to be quite short with people! There were only 2 staff on , her & the waitress who was lovely, My husband felt quite ill all night & wished he'd not eaten the food...I don't think we'll be returning!

Good food and atmosphere, staff were really helpful and friendly. Great for family and kids as well as adults. Shame the terrace wasn't open as it looks like a real suntrap and also a shame no dogs allowed. We'd go back but would be easier to drop in when the dog is with us.

We came from West and North and met in Diss on a rainy day. We found a warm welcome at The Waterfront Inn and enjoyed a spacious table overlooking The Mere. We had hoped to do some exploring of the town but the weather was against us and so we mad camp for over three hours enjoying find hospitality and good food. The menu is not extensive but is more than sufficient. The prices are generous and the service (provide by Abbie) was excellent. We enjoyed the atmosphere and will be pleased to come again.

Me and a group of my friends all came into the pub to watch the elvis night. I was amazing the atmosphere in the pub was electric! Their were people dancing everywhere we all had such a good time and had the most amazing food I had the special prawns for starter and the Shepard’s pie for mains which was absolutely delicious I didn’t want it to end! And then to round it all off me and my friend shared the sharing dessert and it was huge!! We had such a good time last night and will definitely be back in for the next elvis night!

Me and a friend walk into the waterfront wanting some soft drinks, a couple of lemonades, we ended up getting told by a very rude lady on the bar that we needed to leave because we didn't have any id and we weren't allowed to be in there. We didn't try and order any alcohol we literally just wanted to sit out the back with our lemonades and watch the sunset. Bare in mind we went between 5-6 o'clock this would be completely understandable if we had gone for a soft drink at 9-10 o'clock but this wasn't the case. It would have been more understandable if we were told politely rather than disrespectfully.

We went to The Waterfront today Friday 2nd Feb 2024. We wish to show our appreciation for the lunch we enjoyed . Whilst I appreciate the menu is generic, our presented food was anything but mass-produced. The kitchen staff really showed their stuff and should be congratulated in having a pride in what they do, as well as their obvious ability. To a person, the staff were all pleasant, professional and exuded the aura that you were valued to them.. Our meals-fish and chips, and Steak and ale pie were superb, the fish boneless and skinless and pristine-white and cooked wonderfully. My pie was sumptuous, the onion gravy was salivatingly gorgeous, with the potato mash 100%. Desserts were excellent, and my wife loved the White Zinfandel. Complaints and compliments should be awarded on merit only, and by goodness, The Waterfront scored 10/10 today. 😇😇🏆🥇🏅💯%

Sunday lunch half chicken,beef, nut roast for us mum and dad had fish and chips asked why they did not have roast dinner I tried some of dads fish and yes my beef was good but I can see why they ordered it gonna come to visit on a Friday when they say they hardly sell anything else beer was good level head ! Some local brew the lady told me was everywhere will look out for it Smashing older fellow served us made us feel at home thanks to him and all great day out with family

I had the most amazing time at the waterfront inn today. Was served by the lovely abbey and Sarah at the bar. We had the amazing sharing plates the karaage was amazing as always. We also decided to try the flatbread and it was DELICIOUS!!! We’ve been in the pub lots as it’s always our first choice as it has such a lovely vibe and atmosphere and the people are so attentive. If you haven’t been please try it!

Wow 👌. We, as a family decided to have Christmas Dinner out this year. The Waterfront didn't disappoint, with my Dad declaring it was the best Turkey he'd ever had. Well done to the whole team, you catered and bent over backwards to accommodate our requests. The food and atmosphere were just perfect. Merry Christmas

Lovely food, but a shame about the rude landlady needs some Christmas cheer… asked about undercooked food and was dismissed that she knows better. Spoilt our day.

Went in for the quiz, a lot of fun and well looked after. Very friendly staff and the nachos my wife had were in her words the best she's had. I went to the waterfront last year and asked the woman/manager behind the bar if dogs were allowed. The answer was a stern, NO! I thought to myself, how rude!
