Wymondham's Station Bistro in South Norfolk

Normally I only have time to grab a take-away coffee, not so today. Eggs Florentine for lunch and they were superb. Didn't wait long and they were delicious. Well worth a visit if you're in Wymondham.

Staff are very friendly and helpful food great good value

Parking used to be free right outside the Bistro when we last dined here. Indeed there is still a sign saying parking right outside the Bistro is reserved for Bistro customers. However, beware it will cost you a minimum of £3 to park there as there is no pay by hour parking, the minimum charge is to park for the whole day. We weren't aware of this when we arrived and so were surprised that once we were served it was confirmed to us that parking wasn't still free and so we promptly paid using the app as it wasn't clear to me how to pay using the station ticket machine. The app was a little confusing too as I was trying to pay for 1 hour's parking and the only choices were days or weeks! I'm sure this will unfortunately deter some customers from visiting the Bistro. There appears to be free on street parking about 100 metres from the Bistro and so most customers will presumably park there and walk and so I'm not sure how much money the council or whoever will make from this decision. It's ashame.

Fantastic place, couldn’t believe they remembered my drinks order after not visiting for a couple of months! Amazing work! And the kids love it too!

I had a lovely and delicious meal here with my sons. The wait staff were welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The food was served in good time, and I almost licked my plate clean as it was very delicious. I strongly advise taking a visit and taking in the historical decor while enjoying your food. Thank you 💜 I will definitely visit again and again ☺️

Nipped in for a bite before my train. Staff were friendly and helpful and the sausage sarnie and tea were great. No complaints from me.

Booked this for a private family party for my Dad's 90th birthday, and it couldn't have been better. From making an enquiry to the actual day, the staff were more than helpful. Thanks 😊

A lovely quirky experience with a great atmosphere. Food was good, great size portions. Service was friendly. Only downside was paying for parking (£3) as it's at the station, shame this can't be overlooked somehow when visiting.

Excellent service and food - good value for money

I ordered the three bean chili and it was absurdly spicy, I tried to scrape it off and eat the jacket potato underneath but it was still ridiculously hot. The waitress didn’t come and check on us at all and it was only when we started to stack the plates 15mins after finishing our meals that she came over. I explained that the dish was far too spicy and she didn’t seem to care, no apologies just attitude back and no compensation of the fact I ate none of the food other than a few lettuce leaves. Such a shame. Would I go back? I’m not sure….

Another lovely visit to the station bistro, the best place to catch up with friends. A window seat for my 4 year old to train spot while he enjoys his hot chocolate, with cream and marshmallows of course. Varied and tempting lunch menu it's hard to choose but full and happy customers all round. But the best bit, my favourite tiramisu to take away and enjoy at home, although it didn't last long.

Lovely food, setting and service. The menu has great variety, I have been for both breakfast and lunch and they are always really accommodating. Service is quick and the cakes are also lovely to take home afterwards.

CHECK YOUR CHANGE Twice I have got a take away drink from here and both times I was given less change than I should have been. Won't be using again.

A Christmas meal for 5 with drinks at nearly £180 was very disappointing! The fish main course was meagre. We were hoping seperate veg would arrive but didn't. The roast beef also lacked veg. One meal was luke warm, but was reheated for us. Desserts nice but crumble served in a glass pot with jug of custard .. cannot eat it from a glass pot.. please be practical! Staff were friendly and polite and cannot fault service. But having spent the most we have ever spent on a meal out, (and for us it was a lot of money!) to come home hungry, disappointed and slightly embarrassed having treated parents to meal, quite frankly feel like wasted a lot of money. Such a shame as previous visits have been fine. Sorry to leave a review like this but still in shock what we got for our money!

Lovely little place, food was lovely and couldn't fault. Nice to watch the train go past and would be good to fill up whilst waiting for your train. Could've done with some background noise as was very quiet at times. Service was good but we did feel a bit quickly thrown at a table.

Went here for breakfast. Very large portions. Friendly staff and dogs permitted in the cafe. Try and book a table in the railway carriage, for the atmosphere. Small car park outside.

My favourite place for breakfast.

It's a quirky venue with attention to detail in the surroundings and decoration. I would rate food as average as my husband felt the tomato and beans in his veggie breakfast tasted unpleasant and it was all rather underwhelming. My eggs Florentine was nice enough and the hollandaise was good but it was a tiny muffin, so nothing much to soak up your egg yolk. The eggs were also a little watery and you could tell they weren't as fresh as to make them tasty. Service pleasant and once again, if they could up the freshness of the food I think it has the potential to be a good local venue again.

Just had an amazing brunch with my hubby: lattes and a breakfast burger. Just have to give it all a 10/10. The coffee came to the table properly hot; and the constituents of the burger were all locally sourced and tasty! Dog friendly: absolutely!!!

I had the beef roast and the food was awful! The meat was cold, and really tough (Hurt my fingers with the pressure I had to put on the cutlery to try and cut the beef)l as I wasn’t given the correct knife) the Yorkshire pudding was burnt, cold and crispy, the veg was cold, The bacon was burnt and cold. The stuffing was dry and tough (And I had to pay £1.50 extra for it!) the food took nearly 30 minutes to come (And they didn’t look too rushed off their feet so no idea what they were all doing) I’m really not impressed! Kept hearing the staff chatting in the kitchen and coughing in the kitchen and as they were walking around the restaurant. (Really hoping they covered their mouths and washed their hands before handling the food!) the decor is lovely and has old train seats and tables which is nice, but the food is awful and I won’t be coming back

Poor full English breakfast. Bacon over cooked. Hardly any beans. Portion size wasn’t great. The toast was hardly toasted and not even browned. The bread was the cheapest thinnest you could buy. Sauces were cheap and nasty have had better breakfasts at spoons for half the cost. I have no problem paying higher prices for good food but not for sub standard. Didn’t purchase a drink out of principle, how can you justify £3 for a can of Pepsi. Wife had scrambled eggs on granary toast which she said was decent. Wouldn’t go back.

I like this place, always had a nice meal or snack, cake and coffee. Had an afternoon tea before and that was also very good indeed! Really lovely place to go in Wymondham. Not much parking, so just head to the car park down the road and its cheep. I just wish it stayed open longer on Saturdays.

We love this place and have done for years! Amazing food, super friendly and kind staff. Would highly recommend to anyone! Breakfast, lunch, coffee & Sunday roasts are all incredible with the option to take away and collect too.

Friendly staff and good service, however the food was quite poor. None of the food appeared to be freshly cooked, it was just about on par with the self service breakfast at chain hotels. Bacon overcooked yet not crispy, sausages looked they had been microwaved? They were grey with little to no colour. Everything seemed very cheap and low quality, even the baked beans and sauces were poor. Everything was served lukewarm. The only food item of note was the fried bread, it was made quite well and not overly oily. If the cost matched the quality it would be understandable, but £30 for 2x hot drinks, a full English, and breakfast waffles far exceeds the quality presented.

Visited today for the first time in a while. Whilst the coffee was beautiful and the venue quaint, the customer service was quite frankly appalling. The female waitress serving was particularly rude, with sharp tone and response when I tried to clear a table to be seated at and then telling me that the table I was sat at may be reserved (there was no reserved sign). Upon sitting I was then told that I could only have the table until a certain time, despite there being other tables clearly available. After sitting and being served, we actually continued to sit at this table and were not asked to move and did not identify anyone arriving who was looking for a table. I know we all have bad days, but this seemed really unfortunate and was uncalled for. The food and drink is always of great quality, I’m keen to support local business and I’ve never experienced bad service previously; however it has really deterred me from visiting again.

Had breakfast here today in the train carriage. Love the feeling of the place and the ingredients of all our different breakfasts were excellent. Certainly be going back again.

Food really great, service good, atmosphere just what you want from a bistro in a station! Food prices were highish, but fair for the quality of meals. Only issue is that whatever they use to clean the tables and floors leaves them a bit sticky!

Would thoroughly recommend having breakfast here. There was 9 of us with two young children. The staff were exceptional and looked after us brilliantly. A variety of breakfasts were enjoyed by our group, from Beans on toast, scrambled eggs with crispy bacon and several full english breakfasts. The quality of the food was really good and everyone’s food came together and was nice and hot.

What an absolute delight! Staff are 100% spot on with customer service. Friendly, helpful, patient, and just making sure we were having a great time (we were!) Highly recommend the ribs - the meat falls off the bone and it melts in your mouth in the most glorious way! Sauce wasn't too sweet, it was just right. Good portion too! Also, the brie, bacon, cranberry ciabatta was delicious! I wasn't expecting that much thinking it was a quick stop for people getting on/off at the station, but I was pleasantly surprised. The decor inside is wonderful! A little piece of history!

Staff were very friendly and the drinks were good (tea, apple juice). Food came out very quickly. Baked potato was very average and may have been hanging around for quite some time before being used. Halloumi and avocado burger with chips and coleslaw was disappointing for the price paid (12.95). It wasn't bad - just very average. It came with a tiny dish of coleslaw and it seemed that the chips (pale, cheap, cooked from frozen fries) had also been hanging around for quite some time. You hope to be impressed when the plate is put in front of you, but it was more of a 'hmm...ok'. Would go back for a drink, but will go elsewhere for lunch.

I had 5 bean chilli on a jacket but couldn't find the beans, it was peppers and chilli only. But nevertheless, it was perfectly fine. Hubby had ploughmans that he said was lovely but very stingy in cheese and ham. The deserts are very well presented at £6.95 each. So, 2 meals, 2 deserts and a drink each for £45 ish. Nice to sit in cafe and see the trains rumbling past.

Fantastic little station bistro, with a unique atmosphere full of charm, and real period features. Great full English breakfast, with proper bacon and sausages and fried slice. Throughly recommended.

Wonderful welcome with friendly service. Huge gluten-free menu,which is lovely because quite often you don't get a lot of choice if your gluten free. The food was beautiful and we had a decent sized portion. Very reasonably priced. We would definitely come back

Great place for coffee and cake to have in or take away for the train!

This was a visit for breakfast. We had the “full steam ahead” full English. It was reasonable but not outstanding. All the elements were good but I wasn’t blown away. However, the service was outstanding. The waitress was very keen to accommodate our needs, which was wonderful. It is a great venue and I do highly recommend it. Probably better to go for some of the speciality breakfast though.

Arrived at 11.30 but told too late fir brunch but too early for lunch which from 12..(?) Anyway had cuppa whilst waiting for food at 12(?) Had jacket potato which was average but ok. But had Eton Mess for dessert.. very tasty and highly recommend! Staff very friendly. Sat in train seats which was nice and comfy. Will come again just don't understand the late morning switch over of food..?

Arrived early at the station and enjoyed an excellent oat milk latte and flapjack. The coffee was fantastic. However, it was the customer service that made me leave this review. Friendly and welcoming showing what good customer service looks like. A good start to a six hour journey home.

Excellent, unobtrusive but efficient service from the young, friendly waiters. Great quality food served in an unhurried way in a delightful setting. Recommended.

Lovely old world atmosphere - back in time! Good range of cakes and sandwiches. Enjoyed the ciabatta on this occasion. Will definitely be back. Return visit - no need to change my view!

I really enjoyed the American breakfast, and my friend had the Jacket potato with bacon the portions are big. They have a great customer service plus a good environment. I would come back here again.🫶🏾

It's a quaint bistro, with some tables resembling train carriages. The food was basic, but that's OK if done well. Unfortunately, our chips were undercooked and inedible. It made me angry that I'd broken my healthy eating plan and it wasn't delicious.

The breakfast at the train station is not comparable to Germany. Young and old meet here for breakfast/brunch or just a cup of coffee or tea. Everything was super relaxed and relaxed. It looks inconspicuous from the outside but has charm inside. The service is fast and really polite, but as a group it can be more difficult to get a seat. Here, too, it is well attended than average. The price is completely OK for the English breakfast. and drinks. Parking is not that easy because it is time limited and free parking spaces are rather rare. Went there on the recommendation of a local and can only pass on the tip

Been for breakfast a couple of times in the last month. Two vegans and two not. Both times we all enjoyed a delicious cooked breakfast and various teas and coffees. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. It’s comfortable and decorated with old rail memorabilia. Will be back!

Great unique place. It was a bit cold away from the real fire. Should have gone in the adjoining converted rail carriage area. Food presented a bit oddly. Staff were friendly and chatty.

I booked a family meal here and we had the Christmas menu even though it was for a 75th birthday celebration. We were sat in 1950s train seats put together to look an old rail carriage, even the decorations were appropriate for the theme. The food was delicious, the staff were attentive but not over bearing, and the price was very reasonable. It was lovely sitting in that environment watching the modern trains go past the window (the bistro being on the station platform). There was also a more traditional open coffee shop style room for anyone wanting a morning coffee, breakfast, lunch, cake etc. I'd highly recommend coming here, we genuinely had a wonderful time.

We came into the bistro this afternoon after seeing the giant Yorkshire Pudding on social media. We had to wait 50 minutes before it came out, so the wait was long but it was worth it. It wasn't as good looking as the photo we seen on Facebook, it was a very large mess but it was tasty and the service was very good.

I visited recently for my friends surprise 60th birthday treat and she was blown away. Booking in by phone in advance was easy and special request for alternative to strawberry jam(for friend) was noted.We arrived by train and she loved the old station,the lovely Carriages Room,Ollie and all staff were so nice and attentive. The afternoon tea components were fab particularly the sausage roll and chocolate orange pot(would love the recipe for that). Will highly recommend this,I've tried your breakfast in past(that was great too). All I need to do know is get my husband to bring me for dinner.So worth the trip from Cambridge,to escape to a different time and place for a while.

This place brings back happy childhood memories and it is a firm family favourite for food and drink. You can park out front and visit the nearby cemetery which we do. The station bistro has authentic railway carriage seating and artefacts and its especially nice when the open fire is lit. We enjoyed a warm welcome, prompt and friendly service and delicious food. I can recommend the smoky bacon sandwich on granary bread, the eggs benedict and eggs royale; plus the filter coffee. The regular trains to/from Norwich and Cambridge stop just outside which adds to the atmosphere.

Had a lovely visit. So nice to sit in the very comfy train seats. Such a novelty. The decor really adds to the experience with suitcases on racks and a bit of history with photos. The coffee was lovely and very friendly service. Already have plans to go back for food.

We came here yesterday for an early breakfast after reading the reviews. Both feeling really hungry and was looking forward to our food. On entry the staff where pleasant, and we sat in the station part of the restaurant - this was tired and needs a revamp. We ordered a breakfast burger and a Full English. The flowered bap was really dry and crumbly the food was almost cold and over cooked, we both had eggshell in our eggs. The same for the breakfast all overcooked apart from the toast. Both of us were very disappointed and will not go back!! Thought I needed to write a review.

What an excellent breakfast, superb bacon and sausages. My Wife's spinach and mushrooms with poached eggs were perfect. Good to see a business trying hard to succeed.

Expensive for what you get to say the least! Had a fry up with a cuppa cost £11.50 1 sausage 1 bit of toast 2 bits bacon 1 egg 1 hash brown mushroom’s and tomato I left starving! For that money you would expect 2 of everything surely! Second time I have been for breakfast (first time pancakes which were awful so I didn’t get them this time!) staff were friendly environment is ok but I won’t return

Can't fault the service or atmosphere. Staff extremely attentive. Food was nice but my spinach a little gritty. My companion said his breakfast my amazing. Great selection of breakfasts. I'm vegetarian and had lots of choice.

We went as a family for Sunday breakfast. If you book you have a table and chairs from an old railway carriage, with the net luggage rack above you. Now back to the food, the breakfast we had was excellent, we had a full English, one pancakes, one waffle and a bacon breakfast bap. Coffee was very good. The loss of a star was no air-conditioning on. A member of staff was using a neck fan. I tried to borrow it to no avail. Well worth a visit we will return.

It’s very strange how the reviews at this restaurant seem to be very different to the reviews on Trip adviser. If only I had looked at Trip Adviser first, I would never have wasted my money coming here for very bad food. I had scampi chips and peas here today. Scampi was burnt, scampi in the breadcrumbs was minuscule. Chips were dried out and peas like bullets. It was 2.00, I was very hungry, the place was full and I didn’t want to make a fuss. I’ve heard what happens to people in restaurants that send food back, so I didn’t go that route. I ploughed through it, not that it took much ploughing, the portion was so small, meal size has seriously shrunk since the last time I ate there. Asked how my meal was by the waiter, I told him it was very poor. He conveyed this to the manager who said I should have sent it back before and as I’d eaten a lot of it, there would be no reduction in price. It cost me £12.99 for a very poor, burnt minuscule meal. I will never eat here again or recommend it to anyone. I still have indigestion tonight. This has left a very bitter taste and not just from the burnt scampi !

Terrible meal. Burnt scampi and chips. Peas like bullets. £12+. I was late for lunch it was 2.00 I was very hungry. I did eat the scampi but was burnt and bitter. Chips were just little bits of cut up potato, hard and over cooked. I didn’t want to cause a fuss in the restaurant with other diners there. I did plough on with the burnt scampi, so overcooked there was hardly any scampi inside. The meal itself was tiny. When the waiter asked how my meal was, I told him it was disgusting and burnt. He related this to the manager, who was too rude and ignorant to come out and talk to me himself. I was charged the full amount. No apology for the rankness of the food. I did notice other diners had also left a lot of their food, I don’t think it was because there was too much food there. All the meals looked tiny. I will never go back there, nor will I ever recommend anyone to go there. it used to be good. The management should remember there are a lot of nice places to eat in Wymondham. Perhaps the manager should also think about going to charm school, I must say, the staff didn’t seem to be very happy. Lesson learnt, never again.

Lovely setting in the original station building. Well laid out with old train seating used at the tables to make it feel like you are on a train. The bacon rolls are great. Nice friendly staff.

Visited yesterday for the first time. Really lovely location, enjoyed our lunch very much. Will be booking again for a roast in the near future, and hopefully get to experience sitting in the carriage style section. The only reason I haven't given a 5* is that the cake I had was rather dry, so thought it better to be honest rather than dishing out 5* for everything. If I could have given 4.5* I would!

Superb, we have been a few times for lunch. Just had breakfast. Food was great, very tasty and good quantity. Service was very friendly and quick. Wonderful location with real history and atmosphere. Lovely, will definitely be back again.
