After visiting nearby Gawthorpe Hall (National Trust), we decided to try this pub for a late lunch. We found it to be an excellent choice. The staff were really friendly and helpful from beginning to end. The place had a nice ambience - the music was just right and the interior decor was tastefully done and pleasing to the eye. There was a good choice on the menu - we had beef chilli and chicken curry - home cooking at its best. Drinks included an excellent JW Lees pint, half a Guinness and a Rosé wine. There's plenty of parking within the pub grounds. We would highly recommend and will definitely visit again.

My husband & I have just eaten at the Walton Arms. I can honestly say that it was the best meal we’ve had in decades. Fresh and bursting with flavour. Came with my partner and daughter for Sunday dinner. This is the 3rd roast we’ve had since the new management has taken over. Best roast around. Great fresh produce and fantastic service from all the staff. There is literally nothing I can complain about. We even got 10% off mains with a voucher previously given to us on 1 of our previous visits. We sat in the barn which has a lovely cosy atmosphere. My daughter also managed to squeeze in a warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream and said it was delicious.

We've not eaten here in ages. We did notice via social media the the Walton had re opened under new management. Loads of parking spaces. Friendly staff. We had starters of soup nd a nacho sharer( we got loads, would've easily fed 3). We all had roast dinners, 2 beef and 1 gammon with extras of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets. We asked for the cauliflower cheeses in a separate dish. Wish we'd done the same for the pigs in blankets. We didn't have room for pudding. Enormous portions at reasonable prices. Andrew was lovely, he chatted to eevery table, which is a nice thing to do when you're the owner. Thanks for a lovely meal. We'll defo come again

My family and I visited the Walton Arms last night for my mums’s birthday. What a hospitable welcome we received! We had pre-ordered so food came out promptly and with a smile. Food was delicious, fresh and it’s always a good sign when you would happily eat what is served on the children’s meals! The new owners are doing a great job and nothing was too much of an ask! They even came out with a birthday card for my mum, a wonderful touch we all agreed. We are all looking forward to returning.

Returned to The Walton as I heard it was under new management. I’m so pleased that the Walton has been taken over by Andy & Danny. New menu finally. We used to love the Walton however things went downhill prior to being taken over. There is still some of the previous staff which was nice. Andrea is an asset to the new managers. Lovely atmosphere, the place felt warm and welcoming dispite it being busy Andy one of the new managers came to say hello 😀 and introduce himself. He also checked if we had enjoyed our food which we did. We both had the Hunters Chicken. Looking forward to trying some of the new dishes on the menu. I would have liked to try the hanging kebab however they’d been that busy that they’d sold out. We will most definitely be back soon 😀 I’m really happy to have the Pub back on my list of places to go out too. It was a shame we had to swerve it for a while. Well done to Andy & Danny for bringing the place back up to standard 👏

We visited at the start of September, one Sunday, and left extremely disappointed. The food was mediocre to say the least. I thought I’d give it a second shot with a couple of friends but I seriously wish I hadn’t. I ordered the Steak pie which was presented in the most pretentious manner… it was stacked on a bed of microwaved, dry and lumpy mash and bright lime green ‘mushy peas’ taken straight out of a ASDA smart price tin. Now to discuss the pie. It was disgusting! It appeared to have been steamed, the pastry was soggy and clearly done in a microwave. It was cold and the contents were bland and dry. I made it very clear I was not eating it but when the floor staff walked past the table and even brought us more drinks they did not ask to see how everything was. When a young girl came to clear to table I had to tell her the food was awful as she did not ask. I asked her to pass my feedback to the chef, but I promptly corrected myself… I asked her to tell the microwave technician their food is disgraceful. I had to ask for it to be taken off the bill and then received no apology for being served food that should never be fed to anyone. Despite the food being disgraceful I will never be returning… the drinks are over priced and the pub is full of flies.

My daughter and I called this afternoon for a snack. The first time we have visited and the last. We only ordered a portion of chips each with our drinks. Two thirds of my chips were inedible and dried up. Obviously been microwaved or refried. On telling the bar staff when collecting my plate I was told "oh, OK." we weren't asked if the food was OK and from the response from the bar staff member it doesn't seem that they are bothered about returning custom. After covid you would think the hospitality trade would do thier utmost to ensure customers frequented their establishments but apparently this does not seem to be the case.

I'm not one to usually write bad reviews but then I also love to read reviews before going places. However, I have visited Walton arms numerous times in previous years and never had a problem until last week. The pub is a lovely country looking pub the staff were friendly at first. Ordered me and my partner a meal and a drink and we sat at a table near the toilet. Had an issue with a few blue bottle flies so thinking it was due to sitting near the toilet we moved seats to further up the pub. As we did there was a family eating their food who stated to us it was no better where we was moving to with the flies and qe could see them wafting the flies away from their food as they was trying to eat. We was sat down for about 5 minutes near a flat screen tv and the amount of flies was ridiculous. Its was infested there must have been easy 30 flies swarmed on the TV and swarms of them flying around our heads and even flying ants. My partner suggested we sat outside instead which we did but with the pub being in front of a farm and me being 8 months pregnant the smell was making me nauseous. Also the ash trays on the tables were over flowed with soggy fag ends. We spoke for 5 mins or so and decided to ask for a refund as we wouldn't be able to stomach the food after the thought of all them flies and was wondering what it was like in the kitchen. I went inside and asked for a refund as the member of staff was walking out of the kitchen with our order. I explained about the flies and he said its coz of the farm and they had to keep windows open due to covid restrictions ( when there is no restrictions for covid now and there was nothing in the pub to help prevent the flies from coming in or flying around) he basically told me my food was here and there was nothing he could do now. I went outside and told my partner where he wasn't happy and went back in. After a few sharp words, and the manager saying he could sit us at a table with no flies ( why they didn't do that in the first place is beyond me) he got a refund from the manager. I do t like to give ppl the bad press and I understand a few flies cannot be helped, I'm no snob and do have the odd fly in my kitchen, we all do, but it wasn't a few flies id easy say they was 50 flies in one small corner of the pub. And the thought of them landing on my food, or sitting having to waft them away whilst trying to enjoy a meal which wasn't that cheap, especially when 8 month pregnant just made my stomach turn.

The pub appears fine, with friendly staff. There’s where the good ends. I ordered an 8 oz cheeseburger. It was absolutely hideous. It was only 6oz, severely overcooks and inedible. The “thick cut” chips were so far from thick cut, you couldn’t imagine. My wife had a salmon salad, described on the menu as £10.95. When the bill came it was for £11.95, explained away by the very pleasant waitress as confusion between two pubs who use the same tiki No repeat visit here.

Booked a table for 6 to go for a family meal. Having been persuaded to go for the Steak and Manchester Ale pie, I could not have been more disappointed; it was dry, the pastry was awful, the gravy was like water and the mash was just about edible. This is not the first visit here as it is a regular lunch venue near to work. At lunch the service is even worse with the glum land lady making you feel as though you are putting her out. Food service at lunch is terrible as is the food. Thought after they had closed during Covid that it would have improved but sadly not. It might "Be back" but if you have one taste bud, then microwave ping food served here will not be for you. Overly priced and a poor effort on all accounts

Visited on Wednesday as part of the eat out to help out, on arrival they’d hadn’t got our reservation booked down so I showed them the confirmation email and they looked as if it was our fault! The place was empty and they sat us near the toilets, Our starters took over an hour to arrive, we had to ask for drinks etc... the first set of cutlery was nicely wrapped in a napkin the second lot “dumped” in the middle of the table so we had to ask for napkins People started arriving and were shown into the dining area but yet the top half of the bar area was empty,so we’d no idea why we were sat in the naughty area! The toilet internal and external doors were held back with stoppers so we could hear everything...... also smell everything! We closed one of the door and a young girl came and reopened it we expressed our concerns and said it’s not very nice sat here with both the Male and female toilets door open And that we feel we have been thrown into the naughty corner whilst there’s empty seat! She said you should have said earlier and we’d have moved you!!! Why couldn’t you seat us there originally? She said the seat are for 4, but yet you can move us now?? The starters were tiny and looked half measures ( we’ve eaten And drank here often so know what they normally look like ) Then we had to ask almost 45 mins later when our mains were coming!! The overall experience wasn’t good, if it had been busy we could have understood. We got a free cup of coffee as an apology! I am always into support local however i don’t think we’ll be back for a long time.

Went last week and thankfully we were one of the first in. Everything started well, we were asked to sanitise our hands and leave contact details and then shown to our table, our drinks order was taken and brought to the table and then a little while later our food order was taken. We waited about 20 minutes which was good and the food came out 2 plates then another 2 plates, we were asked if wanted any sauces, so the waiter went away and a few minutes later came back with a few sauces in a dish, the. We had to ask for knives and forks, by the time he returned the meal must have been on the table almost 5 minutes. I had fish and chips the chips tasted like they had been warmed up and wee hard and the fish had no taste at all, my wife had roast chicken which she said was quite nice and the other 2 people had cheese and onion pie and chips, which they said was very dry and the chips were hard. We tried to get the attention of the waitress who was rushed off her feet to get another drink but that never materialised despite her saying she would get back to us and we wanted to order a pudding but again despite trying our best it just never happened. We waited at our table for 45 minutes with empty glasses and dirty plates and no one came to us. We decided to get up and walk to the bar to pay but we were asked to sit back down and someone would come to us, I explained we had been waiting 45 minutes and not seen Anyone if no one came within 2 minutes I was leaving without paying. The young lady came rushing over with the card machine and I paid. There must have been over 50 people eating while we were there and they had 2 staff on which is ridiculous when you have to book, so they knew exactly how many would be turning up. Unfortunately we won’t be going again.

First off the staff are excellent and the pub is really nice after the refurb but they need to bring the food up to standard.Starters where ok but the Sunday roast is one of the worst I have had in a long time only good thing was the Yorkshire pud,veg tasted like frozen and potatoes where dry any mash was lumpy but the worst thing was the beef it was like a old leather boot very dry overcooked tasted like liver overall the pub is really nice and I would return for drinks but not food it could be so much better with really good food.

Visited last night in the hope they would be following government guidelines and we could enjoy a long awaited evening out. On arrival we had to wait in the doorway to be taken to our pre booked seat . Whilst we were waiting on two separate occasions someone (staff) brushed passed us without a thought of social distancing and literally rubbed shoulders in a very tight space. When we entered no staff were wearing masks and coming right up to us and when going to the table waiters just brushed past. When we were being served the waiter came right up to us leaning over us. He was sweating and not wearing a face covering. None of the staff were and there was no such thing as social distancing. Its no wonder the virus is rising again especially in these areas. If you want to stay safe avoid this pub.

We've been here a few times now as a family and we always receive a very warm welcome - the staff are a credit to this place! Dog friendly too which is great for our Shihpoo Benny. Nice decor inside and a good selection on the menu. We had three courses each and it was worth feeling stuffed full as all food was tasty and fresh - my partner had a mixed grill which he was very pleased with and I must say the children's option of fish goujons was a good size and very good quality. I had the burger which was delicious. The desserts are particularly good here namely the crème brulé and the sticky toffee pudding. Honestly can't knock this place - a great family and dog friendly pub with great grub and great hospitality. No hesitation in coming back! Just wish we had taken pictures! Also handled covid very well with all standards and measures in place.

Busy place for a Wednesday lunch, so it must be good. Extensive menu at reasonable prices. Good range of drinks. Very friendly & helpful staff. I had falafel wrap, which was tasty. Just the correct portion for light lunch. One of my sister's had fish finger sandwich, which she also said was delicious. Third sister had the salmon. She can be quite fussy, but no complaints today. Highly recommended.

Been here several times now and never had a bad meal. The waiter/barman could not do enough for us. So attentive, pleasant and really seemed to care about the service. The menu is great, lots of choice and the food was superb. Well done Walton!

I don't go out for meals very often, only on special occasions. This was my wife's birthday so we decided to re visit this pub. We had booked but arrived slightly early, got drinks and were seated at a table. Waiter took our order then apologised for there being a slight delay because they were busy, which I thought was very courteous. Our meals arrived, cooked perfectly and with all trimmings! One word - 'Delicious'.We were not rushed and the service was very efficient and polite. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Great Pub, full of rowdy locals on Friday Tea Time, Tractors parked across 7 parking places on car park and a distinct aroma of Farm Yard around the Bar as i ordered my meal. Great Beer and Great Food, trouble is my Meal came incomplete but was that good i ate it fairly quickly, the nxt time we saw the waitress was when she breezed up to the table, stuck her fingers into our 4 empty beer glasses, clicked them all together and walked off with them, then returned and asked how was the meal? i pointed out that i had been part of the meal short and she apologised and said she would have a word with the chef.... At this point we were putting our coats on feeling quite stuffed and happy, then the waitress returned and said the chef sends her apologies and wants know would we like the onions now? WHAT? I couldnt believe it, i love down to earth places but this place needs to train up waitresses to return to table within a few minutes of serving to check if everything ok and not to insult peoples intelligence by offering a bowl of crispy onions after weve finished our meal! NO excuses as it wasnt that busy. That said, we will return for the good food....

We decided to walk down to the Walton Arms after driving past it many a day on way home from work. What a lovely pub. We went just after Christmas (27th) at lunch time so I was a little quiet at first (to be expected) but soon filled up. The decor is really nice and fresh with a traditional style. It feels like one of those places you could spend all day in with friends, plenty of booths and quiet corners to sit in. We ordered food which was brilliant. The bar manager and the waitress were both slightly under the weather when we visited but put on a brave face and battled through, fair play to them I would of been in bed ! Great pub and really nice staff. Go in for lunch you won't be disappointed

Booked and called for Sunday Lunch. In a few words The Mushroom Soup was watery and lukewarm, MainCourse-wise ,the unfortunately termed Cassoulet of Beans in which the Salmon Fillet was doing it's best to float was not unlike the tomato puree to be found in a tin of premium supermarket mush !.This persuaded us not to stay for a dessert course or even a Coffee and we left totally dismayed by the poor quality of food served by staff who seemed to be totally disinterested in what they were supposed to be doing.Won't be going to the Walton Arms again

Called in for coffee after visiting the nearby St James churchyard. The cappuccinos were very nice and the service friendly. People around us were having bar food which looked lovely. The bar has been recently refurbished and it was beautifully decorated for Christmas.

Used to visit all the time but then it started to be closed when ever we turned up, was really disappointed. Heard it was open again so called to book and was told to go down. On arrival was told they had stopped doing food due to a large party. Was really disappointed. In the attitude of the staff and way this was managed. Tried to visit again and again the staff attitude caused us to walk out and go to the Griffin where we where able to have a lovely meal.Won't give walton arms another attempt. Such a shame.

Heard good things about the Walton arms, sadly I was underwhelmed. The Thai curry I had left me wondering what was supposed to be on it, mange tout and string beans ... after that its anybody's guess. Rice was soggy, more like a rice pudding to be honest. The starter was nice but I won't be rushing back. Expensive for what i got.

I’m not sure if the chef was off duty but my friend and I had the same meal and it was horrible. Steak pie was soggy like it had been blasted in a microwave oven and the cooked chips were frozen not fresh. The price was £10.95 for this poor meal. That consisted of just gravy and onions no veg. We sent both meals back and received a mediocre pizza and a curry that was supposed to be tikka masala but it was just a chicken curry. Not impressed. No recompense offered. Will not return.

Went for lunch. Food wasn’t great. Had a Chicken BLT. It was cold. Triple decker sandwich that would have fed three. Over facing. Couldn’t eat most of it as the bottom toast or partly toasted bread was soggy with limp lettuce and mayo. Chips were greasy. We went months ago and the food wasn’t great then so we’ve don’t think we’ll be rushing back in a hurray when the Griffin up the lane blows this place out of the park. Pub is lovely though if you just want a drink.

We've been coming here for a number of years now as it's our local pub. We've always felt that the place had lots of potential to become a great community pub if they could just find the right people to run it. I'm happy to say that the new landlord and landlady are exactly what this place has needed. It is now busy every night of the week with different social events. There are live acts, a bingo night, a quiz night, to name just a few. They have a well stocked bar and serve delicious food that is reasonably priced. They also serve breakfasts at the weekend as well as Sunday lunch.

Grasmere is lovely but small so limited choice of value eateries. As a family of four we just wanted a quick and easy sandwich, soup or panini lunch. Options were limited but this is where this eatery saved the day. Great choice of lunch time food, quick service and pleasant staff.
