Grasmere is lovely but small so limited choice of value eateries. As a family of four we just wanted a quick and easy sandwich, soup or panini lunch. Options were limited but this is where this eatery saved the day. Great choice of lunch time food, quick service and pleasant staff.

Stopped by on our wander around Grasmere. Opted for a bacon sandwich and a luxury hot chocolate. My friend had a Daim cake and ice cream. Nice warm welcome, given menus and told to Sit wherever. We got a nice table overlooking the veranda. The verenda gives a lovely view of the river. Sandwich choices were bacon or Cumberland sausage and you can have sauce on the side. The bacon was nice and thick and quite tasty. One piece had quite a bit of fat on it however I left it at the side. Brown sauce on the side meant could spread as little or as much as I wanted. The hot chocolate came with cream, marshmallows and a flake! The hot chocolate was very tasty, however could have done with being a tad hotter. The Daim cake I am told was delicious, the ice cream a very generous portion and great value. Overall £17 including a Coke Zero! Decent price and as expected. Two toilets are available. These are unisex. They were reasonably clean and served the purpose.

I would recommend stopping here for the wonderful little patio overlooking the river. Jacket potatoes were. good but it's really the outdoor spot that I think makes it worth a stop. I would come back just to sit on that little patio again.

We've visited the Lake District every year for the last few years around our birthdays and we've made a point of visiting Grasmere on the way back for 2 reasons: the gingerbread shop and to have lunch at the tea gardens. The tea gardens have absolutely lovely food, lovely staff, and a really nice view of the river in the outdoor seating area at the back. I'm sure we'll be back next year. Only thing to be aware of is it can get quite busy around lunch some days so depending on what time you're going there may be a short wait outside. It's worth it though!

It's the atmosphere more than the food that makes this worth a visit. If there's a table free by the river, I'd say snag it and grab a coffee; otherwise, it isn't a must-visit by any means. That said, we enjoyed their chilli jam.

Its with sadness I write this as I really wanted it to be so much nicer. But we left disappointed. I am hoping by sharing this the owners will see this as a way to improve for the better for the next customers to come, as the place is nice and situated in a great location. The café is situated in a lovely place and the garden seating area is covered and has beautiful views of the river and the church. The staff were pleasant but ran off their feet as there wasn't enough of them for the full café. I felt the quality of the produce / food was not very good at all, especially for the price. We had 2 panini's, 2 cakes, 2 crisps and 2 drinks and my partner said the best thing was the crisps. The scone was fresh out of the oven and warm but dark in colour, crunchy and tasted burned. The apple pie was a good size but it was so cold it was almost frozen and the pastry was not great either. The paninis (1x Turkey & Cranberry & 1 x Bacon, mozzarella and Chilli) didn't have hardly any filling, and were flavourless. They were all pre-made and I would say less quality than a generic supermarket meal deal sandwich, The bacon was fatty and not very well cooked the fat was thick, stringy and white. The turkey seemed to be mass produced processed plastic flavourless turkey almost like "bernard matthews" from a packet. The crockery / cutlery were very old, scratched and chipped and my glass was very dirty when I received it at the table for my cold drink. But due to the queue on a busy lunch time with tourists, was out of the door and I couldn't seem to catch a staff member to rectify it before my food went cold. I had my cold drink from the bottle instead of the dirty glass. We were hungry and ate the food reluctantly, as we had paid upon ordering and it was too busy to catch a member of staff to inform them, but we wont be returning as for the price, quality and overall standard, I would say this place could do with just a little more TLC to the food and the quality and finishing touches and some new cutlery / crockery. Sorry. :(

On my second visit to Grasemere Tea Gardens, I was pleasantly surprised. Due to the limited vegetarian options in the area, I decided to give the place another try. This time, I ordered the jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw, which was unavailable during my first visit. The jacket potato was fantastic—large, perfectly cooked, with a generous amount of delicious cheese and coleslaw that was almost as good as homemade. The accompanying salad with vinaigrette was once again a standout, particularly the mustard seeds, which were exceptional. I’d love to know more about them! Please reply to me with the name of those. The service during both visits was superb! The staff was amazing and they never left me waiting for anything and I appreciated the freedom to choose my seating. Reflecting on my first visit, my experience was less favorable. I had a cheese and onion panini and a cup of tea, expecting a refined tea selection from a place known as a "tea garden." Unfortunately, the tea was a standard market teabag with limited options. The panini was disappointing; the onions were overly strong and overpowering, though the cheese was decent. However, those who enjoy a strong onion flavor might appreciate it. The highlight of this meal was undoubtedly the salad with vinaigrette, which was the best I’ve ever had. A couple of suggestions for improvement: 1. Consider using larger plates. The generous portions make it challenging to keep everything on the small plates provided. 2. The indoor dining area needs better ventilation. It was stuffy and had an unpleasant odor during my first visit. In summary, my second experience at Grasemere Tea Gardens was much more satisfying, and I am happy with the improved quality of the food and the excellent service.

A tea garden located in one of the busiest parts of the village with an outside terrace by the river overlooking the Oswald Church. That's why they seemed to always be very busy and full. It would be a perfect place to take a break or quick bite to eat if they could improve their food. The sandwiches and drinks we had here, imho, were at best of supermarket quality though the service was very quick. Our drinks arrived while I was still at the counter settling the bill. All in all, a four star rating because of the environment. Don't expect too much for the food.

We've been coming here for a number of years now as it's our local pub. We've always felt that the place had lots of potential to become a great community pub if they could just find the right people to run it. I'm happy to say that the new landlord and landlady are exactly what this place has needed. It is now busy every night of the week with different social events. There are live acts, a bingo night, a quiz night, to name just a few. They have a well stocked bar and serve delicious food that is reasonably priced. They also serve breakfasts at the weekend as well as Sunday lunch.
