The Wallow in Norwich

So often when sitting down in a restaurant wait staff pounce on you. We love the informality and relaxed atmosphere of Wallow. Everything seems to be designed to help customers chill out. The sharing boards are good and would be even better if there was an even number of all items so that they could be shared equally. And it’s good to try different wines.

Super relaxed atmosphere and good fun using the self serve machines to try out a small taste of a variety of wines before indulge in a favourite. We're not even close to being wine connoisseurs, but there's no feeling of snobbery or needing to know lots, just an opportunity to enjoy fine wine. The share boards are plenty for two and the food quality is great. A place where you can forget about the world and enjoy a taste of luxury.

Amazing food and wine for our 3 year anniversary, we decided 3 years ago in this place to be boyfriend and girlfriend, the staff made us feel special tonight :)

Fortunately, we had booked a table for dinner in this wine bar. We visited on a Wednesday when there appeared to be an offer which attracted lots of people resulting in a completely full restaurant / bar. The service was a little stretched. We enjoyed our visit and would go again but perhaps not on a Wednesday.

This was the best evening out I've had in a long time. The service and vibe was amazing and our waiter (Frank) was superb - he was so knowledgeable about the wine and made great recommendations. The sharing platter was delicious and more than filling enough. Can't rate the place highly enough.

My first time here at The Wallow and what a great experience it was. Great looking from the outside & even better inside!!. We were greeted by a lovely friendly member of staff (With a US Accent) and shown how to top up your wine credit card & how to dispense the wines. The whole idea is awesome with a huge selection of wines from around the world on offer and all you have to do is press & button, hold your glass under the tap & your wine is ready to go. We sat downstairs in the cellar style room which is very cozy and has a really nice relaxed feel. Now onto the food which as we were peckish was a must so we ordered a Wallow Board for two which even at £32.95 was definitely worth it, featuring a very nice selection of meats, cheeses, chutneys, fish and a salad & much more ! and it was award winning not just in looks but also taste. After burning through £50 of wine credit me & the wife decided it was time to go but i can honestly say the Wallow was a perfect end to our evening. Thank you "The Wallow"

A lovely night in the Wallow, catching up with a friend over a delicious platter of food and great wine in a vibrant yet cool and relaxed atmosphere, helped by lovely, friendly staffing team. This is one of my favourite places to go (fabulous for lunches and coffee also)

This is a really refreshing place for lunch as they do not have a massive menu so you are not sat there for ages deciding what to have. I have one of the sourdough toasties - very nice it was too.

Pretty decent, but very pricey. A nice vibe and enjoyable cheese board. Our waiter seemed inexperienced and wasn't sure what we were asking for most of the time!

Good idea if you with a group but not as a date night / romantic evening. Service is good can be quite a loud place to be in.

Excellent platter( wallow board)a good variety of meats, cheeses, side dishes with crackers. Tables are rustic but for those of us with longer legs they are a little uncomfortable. Staff were all great, friendly and knowledgeable.

A very good experience. First time here but "we'll be back". Not too sure about the tables with bench seats but we did get a change so all good. The food was very good and the selection of wine very large. Could do with better beer/ale options for non wine drinkers and an alcohol free range for drivers. But an excellent evening.

Tremendous food, great wine, cozy atmosphere.

Arrived at 08:20 for drinks as it looked like a lovely place and we have heard great reviews but the moment we walked in and said we were there for a drink the woman behind the till just very bluntly said “we are full”. No indication of when they would have a space or time and then completely blanked us. Customer service definitely needs some work because after that unfortunately we won’t be returning, not if you are going to treat potential customers as disposable especially as front of house staff. No indication of a time that there might be an opening, no apology, no customer service. If you want to project yourself as a high end place then have staff that can project that. Staff are the first impression and that was a bad one.

From start to finish this place is fantastic. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere, plus what's not to love about wine on tap! The perfect place for a get together with friends or a meal with your other half 😋

Not a big wine connoisseur myself but headed down to this vino vendor to drown my sorrows after a particularly perturbing horoscope. I had the delight of interacting with some futuristic 'wine cow' that you must milk in order to extract the stuff. This was so surreal and quaint to interact with that I wasn't bothered that there was nowhere to rest my elbow patches whilst milking. All in all the experience transformed my unmoored and turbulent mood (thanks to that downright ominous horoscope I mentioned earlier) into a whimsical, laissez fair one. I'm not usually one to drink in order to handle my emotions but now I'm tempted to form something of a habit out of it...

Amazing food, atmosphere, service, and, of course, wines. Only thing I can fault is the bread, there was a few kinds that all tasted the same and didn’t seem fresh- don’t know why you wouldn’t use one of the many lovely bakeries in the area.

Perfect lunch with my mum and daughter we had the sharing platter and a glass of wine. The waiter was very helpful and gave my mum some tasters as she was unsure what wine to choose. We will return. Terrific 😊

Amazing venue, great ambience. A wonderful place for groups of friends or couples. Wonderful if you’re with a big group with different levels of spending, as you have a card that you top up with credit for your individual drinks. Vending machines of wines and Prosecco, great write ups on each wine. Perfect place for someone who likes their wine or is starting out and wants to try lots of different wines. Great platters with cured meats, cheeses etc. Cannot recommend more highly.

Love love love it! Went in the first time this week, I’d never heard of it but it came up on Google maps as a bar near the restaurant me and my partner were eating at. From the moment we entered the staff were lovely. The bar is comfortable but stylishly decorated with two floors of seating. Ofc the interesting concept of the restaurant is the self service aspect where you can add money onto a card and fill up your own glasses from a selection of wine in their machines. But if you’re not ready off that kind of commitment (which we weren’t) they have a wonderful selection of wines from the bar which are reasonably priced. They also offer food which we didn’t try but a nice touch.

Lovely atmosphere. Great idea to use money cards and serve yourself, avoiding having to queue for drinks. It was fun to experiment with the wines as you can have tasters! The food was fabulous and very reasonably priced. The Wallow grazing board was great to share between friends whilst drinking and chatting. Very informal, relaxed. Friendly, polite staff. Keep doing exactly what you're doing ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love this place, brought a friend who was visiting for the weekend and we shared some meats and cheeses and helped ourselves to some wine. Max our server was excellent and we had such a great time. Can’t wait to return

We had Austrian Pumpkins which were deliciously yummy, Coppa, Anchovies, Goats Cheese Pearls, Burrata & Wallow Salad which were all tasty and yummy. The service was great too and welcoming. Highly recommended going to The Wallow.

Had such an amazing time at The Wallow for my birthday tonight! My partner and I were greeted by Kyla on the door who talked us through the dining process and asked our wine preferences, before proceeding to provide recommendations based on what we’d given and offering her own favourites for us to consider which was lovely! Nadine served us and was absolutely brilliant, made sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves for every step of our dinner and had some lovely friendly chat with myself and my partner, and took some great pictures to commemorate the night as well! Got given a free glass of champagne to top it all off! Amazing venue with brilliant staff and a gorgeous selection of food and wines, 10/10 will be back again! 💃🏼

A very relaxed afternoon with Sue and her brother and sister in law.

We stopped and chilled here on a wet afternoon. Rather than have the multiple wine option we had the one bottle. We really enjoyed the experience and, probably next time will go for the multiple wine option. We didn’t eat, but we saw the food served to the people on the next table, and it looked delicious, they didn’t leave a crumb!! Definitely worth a visit, it’s a lovely place to sit, relax, chat and chill.

The Wallow hosted my daughter's evening wedding reception. In short, everything was perfect. Friendly staff who worked so hard to make sure the event was perfect. And it was. Thank you to you all 🙏💖

We ordered the deluxe cheese board for two of us along with two sides. It was enough food despite having an early lunch and does come with crackers. The wine card and tasting is a fantastic idea. Staff were friendly, polite and knowledgeable. We were mostly taken care of by Laura who I could not fault at all and is everything you would want in the service industry when you go out. The Hungarian dessert wine was incredible. Highly recommend!

What can I say. My husband and I hired out the Wallow on 25/10/23 for our wedding reception and we were blown away. The Wallow has been one of our favourite places for years so was a logical choice, but the evening was so perfect. They gave us free reign with decorations, music etc which allowed us to create a night that was perfect for us. Our guests had the best time and no doubt they will have several new regulars!! A huge thanks to Laz for organising the event with me and to Iona for the running the evening. You are all amazing.

Went with my friend and we had never been before, as soon as you walk in the decor and details hit you with WOW. Laura was our server and was so helpful. She showed us how to use the card for the wine and gave us tips on what to try. She clearly knows her stuff. It seemed to run smoothly as there were 3 floors, 3 sections for servers to attend so people wouldn't be forgotten. We were always checked on, and when we got out Wallow board with extra bits...we had the best time. The food was amazing. The smoked salmon was the best I'd ever had,the mushroom paté was creamy and flavourful. The only thing I'd say was the salad wasn't needed 😅 cheese, wine and meat, and I'm set.

A perfect lunch with my wife and our dog! The chap that greeted us was epic, giving a great explanation of the great wine setup (pay as you go card and vending machines, with some wonderful and interesting options from small vineyards). We had the recommended Wallow Board for 2 and loved it all. Highly recommend the crab terrine too, separate order. High five Wallow!

Best passionfruit mocktail I’ve ever tried! And very comfy sofa

Came for some drinks with my friends on Saturday evening, even though the bar was fairly busy , the staff were lovely, happy and smiley, this made it so welcoming and a great place to drink and have some nibbles to go along. Would 100% recommend the pouilly fuisse and the hydropath rose.

Staff are very friendly and efficient. Atmosphere and ambiance lovely. Had cheese sharing platter which was lovely and beautifully presented. Have eaten there before and had various tapas dishes, some are very oily but I’m sure the staff would serve them with less oil if requested. Very relaxing dining experience and will definitely return.

A great selection of wines, delicious nibbles, and a calming atmosphere with occasional live music. A great stop for an afternoon or night out.

I was really shocked that the money you put on your wine card is ‘forfeited’ (taken would be a more appropriate word) after 1 year. The staff were able to tell me exactly how much I had left on my expired card, but refused to transfer it to a new card. This seems like an unethical and short-sighted business practice - what a deterrent to returning customers just to make a quick quid!

Really great idea with the self service wine bars which let you try lots of different wines from taster to large glasses. Food was very nice but very expensive. Everyone who worked there was really nice expect them gentlemen who was at the bar when we arrived who was quite rude and unhelpful which put a bit of a dampener on it

THE best bar in Norwich! A huge selection of wines to try at your leisure, lovely staff, comfy seating over 3 floors, incredible food and reasonable prices 👍 We loaded our card up with £20 and tried at least 9 different types of wine, then bought 2 bottles to take away because they were SO GOOD. The Wallow board for 2 was HUGE and so well put together. It was also my partner’s birthday and he was given a complimentary glass of champagne! Cannot recommend The Wallow enough 👏

Graded 3 star because I wasn’t given my money that I did not spend back. I don’t live in Norfolk so unlikely I’ll return.

Amazing selection of wine and cheeses! The service is 10/10, the staff is so attentive and knowledgable and makes the whole experience so enjoyable. I will definitely be back to try more of the delicious food and wine.

Good wine, lovely platters and lovely atmosphere but the wine is a over priced. There should be a wider variety, maybe some green or unfiltered wines. Our table in the basement wasn’t great, it was dark and the room smelt of damp. The service was friendly but a bit stretched.

Great atmosphere with cosy areas over three floors. Loved being able to try samples of each wine first. Sharing platters have more than enough food - everything delicious with good veggie options. Easy to use the self serve machines and pay as you go cards. A very special place!

Excellent selection of wines, self-service machines can sometimes be a bit temperamental - we had several occasions where the middle option was available but wouldn't actually dispense anything.

Very lovely food as always, however we were questioned of our ages even though we weren’t ordering any alcohol. Never had this happen to us before so found it a bit strange as the waiter never told us what he went to check to do with our ages. Overall was a pleasant experience!

Absolutely love it here, a must for anyone who likes cheese and wine. Portions on The Wallow board were fab and the wine dispensers are so great - takes the pressure off ordering if you are a bit uncertain but want to explore wine.

Fab atmosphere, loved the self service and try before you buy

A unique idea for a self service wine bar. Lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere and super friendly, helpful staff. To get wine, you are given a card when you arrive which you top up with money (note this is non-refundable but the card stays valid for a year). You go up to the machine, place card in slot at top, grab a glass to place under the spout and then press and hold your selection until it fills your glass. The food was incredible too and great value as you get so much for your money. A great place to go and I will definitely be back

Lovely evening at The Wallow, we have been wanting to come here for ages as we have been told about the self service wine! Heaven! Staff were very welcoming and great selection of wines. Loved the Chablis and NZ Sauv.

Brilliant food and wine, the staff were a little overrun and I think a couple of them were new. We had booked and were told we could have a specific table which wasn't free when we arrived but after a short while we were relocated and had a great time! (Upstairs is very noisy and busy! Ask to be seated downstairs if you want to hear each other!)

Perfect Sunday afternoon spot to read a book in a cosy environment with a lovely selection of wine. Little like an adult sweet shop. Very friendly staff. The basement especially looks like a winter haven.

I enjoyed my visit. Nearest parking is probably St. Andrews car park. There are a few tables outside for when the weather is right. Inside you are greeted with three floors of casual drinking space. Be warned it can get noisy and crowded so time it well. Also it's much quieter in the basement usually. There are a number of automated wine dispensers and a good selection of whites and reds. You can order to the table.or you can preload a 'wallow card' with non-refundable credit and then go and dispense for yourself with the card. This usually works well. They have a small selection of foods and I'm impressed with the cheese boards and the baked camembert. Give it a try - it's a nice lunch hideaway or after work recovery bar.

Trendy place with a novel idea to self serve wine. Most wines we tried were 'okay' but it is a little pricey to get a nicer drop.
