Always great food and service, they’ve really turned the place around from a cafe to a restaurant. Going to give the steak night a try next!

From soups to baked spuds with scones in between - The Broomgate Cafe is our go-to lunch choice. Everyone is super friendly and helpful and the food is absolutely amazing. Personal favourites include their home made soup, and the cheese scones. Apparently the white chocolate and raspberry scones are also a must but I am never lucky enough or quick enough to get my mitts on one!

Popped in for a little treat and wasn't disappointed. Very friendly people and a lovely welcome. Nice variety in the Menu and everything is made fresh to order. Good selection of home baking too which all looked delicious. We had the home made Lentil soup (you get a choice of serving size, as well of types of soup) which came with lovely brown crusty bread and some salad, and a baked potato with sweet chilli chicken which came with home made coleslaw, crisps and some salad as well. My daughter enjoyed her potato but was expecting the chicken to be warm, like the potato, but it was very tasty anyway. Drinks were a Diet Irn Bru and a Mug of creamy hot chocolate - you get a choice of size of drinks too, which is another nice little touch. Prices are very reasonable and there was a constant turnover of people visiting. Nicely decorated inside with plenty of room too. Would go back and also recommend it if you are in the area.

Visited here whilst in Lanark on a visit and the wife and I both had a late breakfast. Both enjoyed fresh ingredients cooked to order. Wife especially enjoyed her breakfast as she is a celiac and for a change had good list of foods to pick from, instead of the usual egg and bacon. Only slight niggle for her was the gluten free cakes she bought to take home she found them really dry, I bought the chocolate and orange (not gluten free) which was delicious. Overall though enjoyed will go again

My husband and I had lunch here today and it was amazing. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and we didn’t feel rushed at all. I had the Coronation Chicken brioche roll and I have never tasted Coronation Chicken like it, it was delicious as were the mango chutney and coleslaw that accompanied it. My husband chose the Butternut squash soup with brown crusty bread which was also delicious. To finish I had a cup of tea and a slice of their Utterly Sinful traybake which the waiter described as sugar, sugar and more sugar but it was scrumptious. There were so many scones, traybakes and cakes to choose from I just had to bring some home with us. We will certainly be back in the very near future.

This is not the first time we've visited this tea room, and on this visit we arrived just after opening time and found the staff to be very welcoming & friendly. We had a wee while to wait for our sausage & bacon rolls (one of each) (which was understandable having just opened), Our coffees were served straight away and was nice and hot. The rolls were nice & fresh and the food was well cooked and very enjoyable. Rolls were buttered, don't always get this in cafes. We will certainly be back in the future and will recommend this tea room to friends who are visiting Lanark next weekend. Well done to the staff and keep up the good work.

Decided to visit here with my parents , first time so was interested to see what it was like. The experience was very mixed, my parents liked their food, unfortunately I was not very impressed.I had macaroni cheese soup which was a novelty as never seen it before, can't say I thought it was brilliant but unfortunately the soup had the burnt bottom of the pot floating amongst it which was a little off putting. My toastie well that was quite another thing, it had practically no cheese inside it and what was there didn't look too appetising, the cheese almost had the look of double cooking or was of very poor quality. Complained to the cook and he did offer to make a new one but declined a he didn't seem to see anything wrong with why it didn't look like a cheese toastie inside. To top it off they never brought my can of juice either. The upside was that they didn't charge me but sadly this was my first and last visit and won't be on my recommendation list.

Heard good things about the food here, sadly I never got to try it! Went in at 2ish. Sat at the empty table and spent 5 mins or so deciding what I wanted and chatting to my wife. Waited another 10 mins at which point I thought, maybe it's not table service. My wife went up to the counter and was advised it was table service, so came back to the table. In the meantime another customer came in. Watched as the person that told us it was table service went and served them. Tried to catch her eye but in spite of her looking right at me it was obvious that she wasn't coming to serve us. Sat and watched as she cleaned the two empty tables and the other 'waitress' took a cup of coffee out the door. The customer that came in after us got their food and we decided then they obviously didn't want our business. At that point we put our coats on and left nearly 30 mins after we had asked if it was table service. If someone had come and asked me if it was table service I would have followed them to the table and took their order, not come out and cleaned tables or served someone else! Did stop the waitress that had gone out with coffee, who by the way had been tidying up while we had approached the counter, and complained. Was told the staff were new, and that she had been manning the till! Come back in and we'll serve you now. No thanks and I wont be back. Pity as the cakes on display did look nice. Won't be recommending the place to anyone in a hurry.Would say the worst service ever but since I didn't receive any at all.....

First time visitor to Lanark (driven through it many a time) and first time visitor to the Wallace Tea Room. It's a nice bright airy place. The main area has 12 tables each with individual names (more of that later). There is lots of space and there is also a reasonably sized family dining area with toys available to keep the little ones amused. Brilliant. The staff are very friendly and efficient. The Wallace obviously pride themselves on their food and service. It's great that they use local suppliers and homebake on the premises rather than buy in. They offer gluten and sugar free options. I'd never heard of sugar free jam before now. I would loved to have sampled some, maybe on my next visit. I loved the quirkiness of the place - even just the detail that the tables have names rather than numbers and each name is significant is fun. The back page of the menu explains about the owners and the background to the table names. We sat at The Racecourse Table named after the old Lanark Racecourse supposedly opened in the 1100's and closed in 1977 and some of the buildings still stand. Never mind reading the selection of newspapers and magazines on offer. The menu itself it educational! And back to the menu, there is a good choice of sandwiches, pannini's and burgers on offer along with a daily special and choice of homemade soups. Both my husband and me opted for the Chicken and Spring Vegetable Broth which is served with a choice of bread or roll, butter and side salad. The lovely thick slice of seeded crusty bread I had was soft and fresh. The soup was delicious and filling. My sister-in-law had a Brie and Grape Toastie which she also said was very good - lots of Brie she added with a smile. We finished with teas and coffee. Overall we had a lovely lunch and I would definitely recommend a visit. Next time I am passing through Lanark, I now have a reason to stop!

We were staying at the New Lanark Mill Hotel. We decided to take the challenge of the walk along the River Clyde - all the way up the Falls of Clyde to Bonnington Weir, back down the other side (past New Lanark) to Kirkfieldbank (downstream of Lanark) and then back up the river to New Lanark again. We discovered that, sadly, at Kirkfieldbank the public footpath is well hidden (the CCTV & other discouraging signs don't help) so we found ourselves trudging up the hill (in the pouring rain) into Lanark itself. By this time, despite a substantial breakfast, we were sorely in need of refreshment. However TA came to our rescue as I recalled having seen a review of the Wallace Tearooms (and its dietary helpfulness) following a previous visit to New Lanark. We both had some good coffee, and the staff were able to furnish my wife with both some excellent dairy-free fruit loaf and some soya milk for her coffee. My coffee cake could have benefitted from being kept from drying out (it was approaching closing time), but in the circumstances was still welcome (as was the chance just to sit quietly for a while). We were also grateful for their directions to the buses in the High Street, which allowed us to avoid an extended walk back to the hotel.

I visited with my daughter and sister. I drove from Edinburgh, an hour away.We had a cheese and pickle toastie, tuna and cheese panini and a Brie and onion panini. The toastie was lovely. One of the best I have had. The paninis could have done with more cooking as the Brie was not melted at all. There was a lack of cheese with the tuna. All three came with salad and coleslaw. The salad was very unappetising with limp lettuce. The coleslaw was mostly mayonnaise and onions. Not nice at all.The sales blurb in the menu states that the owner has received accolades for the home baking. That was far from evident unfortunately. The Victoria sponge was flat and dense with bland cream filling. The ginger slice had chunks of unappetising ginger on top of "split" chocolate and the coffee and hazelnut cake had no flavour at all of coffee and was tasteless and dry.Unfortunately my daughter slipped off quietly to pay as a treat so nobody asked how the food was as they hadn't cleared the table. When they did clear the table the waitress didn't seem that bothered with our feedback. Another waitress came over to ask what the issues were and was very apologetic and said that she would pass on our comments but that, as we had paid, she couldn't do anything about the bill!!!Certainly not what we were expecting given the reviews we read before we went. Very disappointing. We won't be backMy own home baking is far superior.

We visited for a mid-week lunch. The cafe is quite a good size, with a separate area for families, so the main area wasn't too noisy, even though it was quite busy! It is clean and bright, with interesting things to look at and read on the wall. There is a good choice on the menu, including a couple of home-made soups which change by the day. We visited on a Tuesday and the special of the day was a combination of small soup, half sandwich, scone and tea or coffee, which proved to be an adequate lunch. I had a tuna melt panini, which included some Lanark cheddar and was very tasty. The home-made scones are large and very good, and come with a choice of jams. Service was friendly and helpful. If you're not 'local' you might just miss this place as it is not on any of the main routes through the town. You really don't want to miss this one though so ask any local for its 'secret' location! Not much to say about this little gem except, great food, great beverages and above all great staff. Whether you just want a cup of coffee or a full blown lunch the staff will see to making it a pleasurable experience. The rooms (there are two) are what you might call cosy, i.e. not particularly big but that, if anything, creates a warm atmosphere, so don't be put off if you have to sqeeze in a bit, it's worth it.Children are also welcome and colouring books and crayons are at your disposal. Just make sure the pencils are sharpened (tip - take a sharpener with you). We popped In to the Wallace Tearooms for lunch while doing the Lanark Heritage Trail. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly. Lots of locals were lunching there too which is always a good sign. I noticed too that the Wallace is rated for home baking having made the finals of a national competition this year. The soup is also very good indeed.Although we were "sitting in" a take away service is also available. The location is very central, near St Nicholas Church and the bottom end of the high street. One word of caution -whatever you do, don't park at the bottom end of the town. Getting out of the junction here, esp if you are trying to turn right, is a nightmare. Although we were walking on this particular visit, I had to make the turn out of the street after visiting Aldis on the previous evening; because several streets meet here ( Lanark is an old medieval town and the original street lay out is still in existence) the visibility of traffic coming from the left is virtually zero, and the high street is busy in both directions. Well gate is also on your right with traffic trying to get out. I sat for 12 minutes before being able to make the turn. Park on High street if you can. .But avoid the area around Castlehill for parking.,

This looked like a lovely wee cafe and I was looking forward to a homemade lunch. We sat down at an uncleared table, it was reasonably busy when we entered. The table was quickly cleared and orders taken. We ordered soup, sandwiches and paninis and then waited for about twenty minutes which seemed a long time for food such as this. I ordered a goats cheese panini and was disappointed as soon as it arrived. It had been microwaved to melt the cheese. Anyone serving goats cheese knows a light grilling is adequate. Microwaving turns it to liquid goo. So I ate my liquid goo panini which was not vaguely enjoyable. The small side salad and crisps on the side were okay. My husband ordered the blue cheese and celery soup which was bland. His half cheese and pickle sandwich looked like something you would rustle up in Your kitchen after a night out. Not unpleasant but also not worth going out for. I struggle to see where the twenty minutes preparation time were spent! Their cakes looked delicious but after our disappointing lunches we just wanted to leave. Such a shame as I had high hopes having read other reviews.

Good location in the town and the food is fresh and well presented, but also very delicious. Tables are spaced out so you can relax and have a nice social event with friends.

Sat for 15 minutes without being acknowledged, another table that arrived after me got served their coffees, went up to the counter to place my order and stood for another 5 minutes while cakes were slowly put in a container for another customer to take out.....still no one acknowledged me, tables were wiped and staff wandered but they were all too busy to take my order.....I left, life's too short for bad service. Won't be back.

Been here a few times and each time expected it to be different..... It's not been any different. I know it states that it's not fast food however snails pace is not acceptable. Numerous times have waited 45-60 mins. (For a sandwich) I think this place is over rated and personally find other tea rooms much better in the town. The soup is actually pretty yum if u fancy waiting for it.

I've visited the Wallace Tea Rooms on several occasions. I've been there several times with a group of pupils who have complex additional support needs. Each time, their dietary and other needs have been met with great grace and friendliness. Nothing has been too much trouble for the courteous staff. Appropriate food was prepared on request. The food was excellent and presented well. Young people with complex additional support needs were welcomed and catered for in an exceptional manner. Accompanying staff were shown support by all tea room staff and were served excellent food. Personal visits have been equally successful. The Wallace Tea Rooms are well worth a visit.

We arrived by bus and found the Tearooms a bit out of the way on an unbelievably hot day. However the cheery waitress and the menu made the trip worthwhile. The mushroom and leek soup was very tasty. Our toasted panini was jampacked full of ham, Lockerbie cheese and pineapple and served with salad and crispy wheels. We asked for and got tap water to drink, an ample sized teapot for two, plus two plates to share a huge apple and blackberry slice.Thank you for such a pleasant visit.

The waiting staff were quietly attentive. We'd said we would have tea and coffee after our meal and the girl came and asked if we were ready. Soup, salad, sea food and baking were all very good. We'd come again.

We went here earlier this year for a family get-together to celebrate my Dad's birthday. Dad grew up in Lanark but the family have moved away and so people travelling from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen to a central location this looked like a good option. As we were a mixture of 6 adults and 4 children, there was a diverse range of tastes to be catered to and everyone left feeling well satisfied - special mention in dispatches to the delicious home-made quiche (which I certainly had seconds of, if not thirds!). The owner was very accommodating of our requests beforehand and our subsequent invasion, letting us decorate the side room (which we had to ourselves) with balloons and also baking a special celebration cake for the birthday boy.Plenty of drawing books and crayons for the youngsters to amuse themselves once they had finished eating so a more relaxed experience for the oldies. When it came time to leave, the owner also pointed out the local directions and suggested some local parks to visit before we hit the road again.Would definitely go back next time we are in the neighbourhood - thanks again!

Been here a few times and always leave with the feel good factor. Usually get soup and sandwich and the soup is usually a new variety and Ingredients are the highest quality. Cakes are handmade- we tried the tiramisu today ad it is the best cake ever-true story. Attention to detail as well eg table names with wee stories associated, papers, great service. Makes me want to stay for hours and try everything.

After receiving the Scottish Baking Award for Scotland's Best Tearoom, we decided to check out the Wallace Tearooms firsthand. My mother, aunt, uncle and I went for lunch one day last October and were so pleased that we did. First of all, my uncle was in a wheelchair and it was no problem getting him into the tearoom and situated at a table, so that was great. My aunt is so hard to entice into going out as she is a fabulous home baker and is usually disappointed, but even she was impressed with the food (that's really saying something)! We all enjoyed what we ordered and the menu has something for everyone. My favourite part was the sweets, though. Kym truly has a gift in baking and we are so lucky that she shares it with us! I wanted to eat one of everything in the display case! The photos will give you a better idea of the wonderful food that is served at The Wallace Tearooms. Don't miss it if you do have a chance to go! I can't wait to go back!

Arrived at cafe approx 1.00 pm, party of four. We adhered to the ‘please wait sign before being seated ‘ for couple of minutes and no one came so as there were empty seats we proceeded to sit down. Shortly thereafter a young girl , waitress, appeared and began chastising us while literally throwing the menus in front of us. She launched into a tirade about ‘in the future wait before taking a seat the signs are there for a reason’! We accept that you clearly expect protocol to be followed to the letter busy or not. However I think it’s fair to expect to be spoken to in a professional, respectful manner and not an angry attitudinal one as we experienced from this young girl today. We have been long time weekly regulars but after this incident , sad to say will not be returning!
