The Auldhouse Arms in South Lanarkshire

This has been a firm favourite of ours to visit over the years. Always guarantee great food and a lovely warm atmosphere. It has recently been taken over, and I am happy to say that the new owners have hit the ground running with new deals and events. They have kept the same amazing atmosphere, homely and cosy, along with the fantastic quality of food. We popped in for their Wednesday steak frites deal. To start, we had the panko mushrooms and black garlic aioli, mushrooms were big, cooked well, and nice crisp coating. We also had the Parmasan and truffle churros. The churros were a bit on the soggy side but still had fantastic flavours. The honey dip worked really well with the parmasan and truffle. We both opted for steak frites (£10) and both really enjoyed our meal (so much so i tucked in too quickly before capturing a picture of the served meal ), steak cooked perfectly, and chips gorgeously crisp, maybe like most places, you can just pop the chips on the plate and save on the washing up of the little pots. We added on some sauces to our steaks, great peppercorn sauce, one of the best I've had in a while. The service was good, a little slow, as they looked a bit understaffed and it was extremely busy, we did need to pop up to the bar for the bill. The bar was buzzing and cosy with the fire crackling away. This is a perfect spot for food. It's comforting, warm, friendly and relaxed, everything you could want and need from a cosy country pub

VERY DISAPPOINTED. Service does not met the expectations. Booked table for 6pm. Did not sat at the table until 6:30. When we sat down did not even brought a menu. Asked for menu at 6:45 never get one until 7pm had to leave because too hungry to wait. You think: yes place was busy but other two tables that came after us were served first.

Fantastic birthday lunch for my wife. Large power cut in the area but the staff dealt with it perfectly. Looking forward to another visit. Food was great, lots more to try on the menu & family feel old school pub atmosphere.

Overall we really enjoy the food here! However the service is really lacking, they are massively understaffed unfortunately. If seated in the bar it appears you are forgotten about, We waited for 30mins and had to grab our own menus/request cutlery we then waited another while and requested to ask to order, which we did ask politely. There wasn’t really any apologies for the wait/lack of service. Which was disappointing. We wanted a dessert but nobody came back, as well as wanting to order another round of drinks; however we went to the bar to ask for the bill as we didn’t find this a relaxing experience. The room was cold as the fire was left to die down which I heard another couple notice it too. This has the potential to be a great wee pub! Hopefully service gets better/more staff.

Lovely wee pub. We found it by chance when looking for somewhere to go with the dogs. The staff were so welcoming and helpful and made a fuss of the dogs. The food was lovely and fresh and good value. I will definitely return here when in the area again and would recommend to all.

Such a friendly family bar restaurant.

Mixed feelings about this review as some aspects of the visit were good but some things just disappointed. Firstly we arrived and headed into restaurant but then were directed back to the bar. We had booked a table for 5 for their festive meal, but instead directed to a small table, set for 5 but with hardly enough elbow room. Menu then presented was not the festive menu. When queried was told it had finished the day before and it was Sunday roast as usual (not per website, and why would you do that at Xmas ?) I queried at the bar and then was told the website was a mistake but they would check if kitchen could do the festive menu, which it transpired they could. We also were offered to go back to restaurant and had a nicer large booth table with plenty of space. Our initial waitress was lovely and chatty, happy to help with everything. Decor is nice in restaurant but even with radiator next to us and their log fire on it felt cold. It is an old building so maybe part of the reason. My youngest son ended up putting his jacket back on. Asked for drinks order but hadn’t been offered wine menu, which we were given after asking. Quick bar service with drinks. Overall festive menu was good, big portions for starters. Mains were OK but have had better tbh. Turkey was good but underwhelming vegetable portions. A waiter then came to ask if we wanted dessert which we said yes to, and we asked to order coffee to go with desserts we chose. Coffees were duly brought, all good, but no desserts turned up. After 15mins asked what was happening and having finished drinks my wife decided to cancel the cheeseboard she has requested. Desserts fairly bland, small portions, and disappointing. Ice cream that came with cheesecake also tasted odd. Had to then go ask at the server station for the bill. Tbh not sure if we were just put off by initial mix up when we came in and they did try to rectify it, but I would not rush back. As mentioned initial service was good then let down by being forgotten about desserts. The place was not that busy (no one else in restaurant when we came in although they were serving in bar so maybe it was through there), and a few other tables did fill up whilst we were there, but the end of meal just put me off coming back. £200 for 5 people spent would expect a slightly better time.

First time in a few years here for dinner with our cousins from the US. Service :the best, food: amazing, personal touch… well Leslie loved her birthday cake!! So happy this place has got her groove back!!! Thanks Maxine and Spencer! ❤️❤️

Have to say I was absolutely disgusted at the shocking service myself and my family received from The Auldhouse Arms on our visit recently! It was always a pub/restaurant my family visited regularly but haven't been for a couple of months since the new owners took over as we were hearing different comments about the place. So we decided to try it out a few days ago and we will now never be back!! The service was terrible, menu choice was very poor (not what is shown on their website) food was disgusting, reheated and cold! I had the roast which was always the place to go for a roast but it was vile! No one came near us to ask if everything was ok, sat twice with no drinks for ages!! Spoke to the manager and she took the roast off the bill (that was sorting the problem apparently) We also cancelled our xmas dinner order as the food was that bad!! We then went into the bar for a drink and a few other couples that we know well had asked us how our meal was. We weren't going to lie so i said it was awful, to which these other couples said the exact same thing. The manager then marched over to our table and told us the problem was fixed and we were to stop talking about it with other people!! I said they are friends of ours so who is she to tell us to stop talking about the shocking food and service we received!! The way she spoke to myself and family was disgusting!! Im not going to sit and say my food was lovely when it was horrible and i left the restaurant hungry! The head chef has left, the lovely wee waiter that was always so attentive has left so no wonder the place is a mess!! They are pushing away all the locals and regulars that have ate and drank there for years and years!! The manager is too busy on her phone posting on their social media pages!! Had the cheek to take a video of the roasts getting plated up when they were absolutely disgusting and her customers are sitting with no drinks etc while she is stuck to her phone making out the place is something special when they have completely ruined it!!! I would avoid at all costs because everyone apart from her "friends" are the saying the same thing about the food and her attitude!! Its her "friends" that are leaving good reviews!! Have the cheek to advertise a cook book with the best chefs and recipes and they are serving s****!! Also I have had the owner contact me saying if i post a bad review then he will get his lawyers to me!!! Even though he said everyone is entitled to their opinion! Absolutely disgusting behaviour!!

Amazing food friendly atmosphere and the best cocktails

We would throughly recommend visiting the recently reopened Auldhouse Arms pub restaurant. We had a great evening last night having a meal and a few drinks. The roast beef with all the trimmings was really tasty and ideal for Sunday dinner. The carrot disguised as a sausage was an amusing touch 😋 We decided to just eat in the bar area, in front of the real fire, which made for a very cosy evening. We took a taxi to Auldhouse from East Kilbride, which cost us less than £10. The Auldhouse Arms is definitely the best bar restaurant in the East Kilbride area and well worth making the effort to visit 👍

Terrific meal with family and friends

One of the best pub lunches I have had in a very long time. I had the fish and chips with a side of onion rings. The breaded fish tasted so fresh and so did the tartar sauce. Onion rings were large and freshly crispy. My husband had the four cheese macaroni with black pudding on top. He also agreed that the meal was very filling and delicious. The main was so filling that I didn't have room for pudding. So I plan to go back to have the sticky toffee pudding. Would highly recommend this pub.

We recently had a family gathering and decided to have a meal at the Auldhouse Arms. We had prebooked our table for 9 and all was ready for us when we arrived. There was a varied choice on the menu and the meals that we chose from the menu was enjoyed by all and the staff attending us ensured that the food served was exactly to our tastes. Well done to all the staff for ensuring that we all enjoyed our visit !

Great food and drinks, only issue was a woman started shouting at us for no apparent reason. Seemed rather entitled tbh.. Nothing actually to do with the pub itself

We only went in for a drink. We had 2 lagers which came to £8 which is a reasonable price. The bar area was full with families having a meal. The food looked good and looked freshly made. Next time we go we will definitely have a meal. New owners. Looks as if they are doing well with a variety of food on the menu and the specials board.

Just been to the Auldhouse Arms with family and had a really lovely meal. The staff were so attentive and pleasant and Fraser the bar man was what every bar man should be pleasant, patient and informative. Auldhouse Arms is a perfect country pub and we will be back regularly.

Went for early Mother's day lunch, food out of this world, and a really warm welcome with all the staff funny and friendly. Dog friendly which is a bonus although I removed our young dog as he was whining to play with the other dogs, that would have annoyed me. Although other dogs were roaming about but I'm a dog lover so no probs, all in a total gem of a place x.

Great little bar with scrumptious food. Don't be fooled by the portion size. The food is incredible and reasonably priced.

We went for a quick lunch in the bar on Saturday. The soup and wonderful sandwiches are just delicious. The atmosphere was so nice, we stayed for ages chatting to the lovely couple next to us . We had heard of how wonderful the sunday roast lunch was , so popped back in on sunday to the restaurant- we can confirm it was the best roast we have ever had😊 The staff are so attentive and friendly . The atmosphere is relaxed and friendy and the food wonderful. Hold on to that chef's hes the best 👌 👍 😍

This has the best of both worlds. A perfect country pub combined with an excellent restaurant. What more could you ask for. First visit back since it re opened for Sunday roast. Very nice. Will be back.

Very warm and welcoming atmosphere and the staff are so friendly and attentive. Great selection of cakes on offer and very tasty as well.

First time back for a number of years due to lack of access because of construction sites. Accessible now for some time. From other parts of East Kilbride best if you have transport. I'm not encouraging drinking and driving. My friends loved it and can't wait to go back there. Service and staff excellent definitely worth a visit.

Visited twice now, both times 10/10 food and service. Love it!

Was disappointed given the reviews. Warm welcome on arrival and quick to get our drinks order. Slow service (but friendly) for food order and meals took a while to arrive. Kids' meals were overcooked, to the point of bordering on inedible. We raised with waiter but no action. Adult meals were OK. Nothing exciting but OK. Was somewhat concerned when child's desert, a cookie dough and ice cream ordered from the kids menu, was delivered to a 5 year old on an oven hot skillet, complete with a warning from waiter. £76 for 2 kids mains, 1 kids desert, 2 adult mains, 4 soft drinks and 2 coffees.

I really enjoyed my lunch here. I had sticky beef to start, then lamb cutlets, both very tasty and perfectly cooked, plus dog friendly in the bar. Great service.

Can’t rate this highly enough. Ended up having a lunch with the boys after hearing really good things via word of mouth, was possibly the best meal I’d had this year. Went back 3 times the following month with my other half and tried the fish and chips, steak pie and a curry to see how well all the staples were nailed and honestly every one of them was the best we’d had. Can’t wait to return regularly.

Been here many times and still have not left disappointed. Fantastic and lovely staff . They are always so nice and kind to my daughter . All food is fresh and local . Recommend the haggis scotch egg to start and the fillet steak with garlic butter for main . Fantastic !

Our first visit and we will definately be back. The restaurant staff are really friendly and made us feel welcome, probably the best service we've had in years. . Restaurant has a cool country pub feel, casual and not pretentious. The food we had was excellent, Pate, Haggis scotch egg for starters were lovely and Lamb chops /Chicken supreme for mains. First visit for years. Now, for our family, upmarket place for Sunday Dinner and most days. Enjoyed friendliness and helpfulness of staff, including manager or is he proprietor. Back at the Auldhouse Arms again on 28/7/22. The food and service here are always excellent. The Teriyaki cauliflower starter is delish and this week we had the chicken with bubble and squeak, haggis croquettes and vegetables, delish. We've also had the thursday steak night dinner for £35 for 2, it's delish. Great dinners, excellent service. Definitely recommend.

We had a great meal in the restaurant. Original menu and just the best guys serving. We were nine and the food came out in time for each diner. After we adjourned to the old public bar and soaked up the atmosphere of the 200 year old tavern. Just Go.

4 out of our party of 5 really enjoyed our Scottish meal on a Scottish based menu. Great beers if you like that sort of appeal. Boss changed steak pie meal with no quibble but the meat was truly aweful. Under new management and a totally different experience. Try it. You will love it.

Great service and food would recommend to try it out

Disappointing lunch . Could only eat some of my nachos starter as it was covered in coriander which makes me gag and was not mentioned on the menu. Did explain to server who apologised. .My friends fish pakora was very heavy in batter and mostly prawns rather than fish...Main course I asked for mac n cheese without the bacon. That also meant I was delivered it for no reason without the parmesan crumb . When I said to the server the response was an I don't know and an apology. The bacon is not in the crumb and it says so on the menu. Felt a bit short changed and as if no-one cared about my experience. A real shame as we've enjoyed food here before .

Went here for the steak night. I am always wary about ordering steak in restaurants however boy did I not regret it. Hands down the nicest steak I have ever had. My fiancee also loved her steak and she only ever eats fillet. The roast potatoes with truffle and parmasean were absolutely perfect, sounds cliched but light and fluffy on the inside and a wonderful crisp outside. The hand cut chips were also perfect. All with a bottle of wine for £45 . You will not get better food or service anywhere in Glasgow in my opinion.
