The Walkford in Christchurch

Went here this evening for a meal for 4 people. Arrived at 5.45pm. Drink and main food order taken at 5.50pm. Our food was still not at our table by 6.30pm. Asked waiter was there a problem as another couple had arrived 20mins after us and were on their desserts before we had even recieved our main course! Food arrived promptly after we asked for it. The deputy manager couldn't apologise enough as he could see we had been waiting for 45mins for our food. Once finished our main course, we waited over 10mins for our table to be cleared with no waiter or waitress in site. So we decided to go to the bar and ask to pay for what we had eaten and drank. The deputy manager said that our service and experience had been completely unacceptable and we only paid for our drinks. It was very kind of him to offer this. We have never had a bad experience from here over the past 2 years so hopefully tonight was just a one off?

Friendly chain pub, split into dining and bar area with covered outdoor seating area and large beer garden with children's play park. Food is decent although service can be a little slow when it's anything approaching busy. Good deals on food which don't exclude Saturday.

Very welcoming, good atmosphere and lovely food

A big thank you waitress Sally whose hard work, attentiveness and humour despite an incredibly busy pub, helped us to celebrate a family birthday. I’d like all waitresses to be like her! The food was fantastic and a great variety of yummy choices. Although busy for a Thursday lunchtime, it did not feel crowded or loud thanks to the spacious layout of the tables and the soft carpets. My only slight grumble (and I am being.picky here) is the lack of spaces in the car park however I’m sure this is usually fine as I believe they had an event going on on top of the usual lunchtime trade.

When we entered the Walkford it was bright, warm and welcoming. Lovely log fire in the bar area where we sat. We ordered the lunchtime menu deal and it was lovely and delicious 😋 we were served by friendly, polite and professional staff. All in all a lovely lunchtime catch up with friends. Thank you 👍

Lovely local pub. The staff are fantastic and really look after their customers. Reasonably priced pub grub. Great atmosphere and they often have live music on a Saturday night

Great staff and friendly service

Visited on 26/1/25 for a family birthday. While everyone enjoyed a sunday roast, my husband and i decided to try the pulled lamb shepherds pie with vegetables from the new specials menu. Can honestly say it tasted really lovely and could not fault it in anyway.....definately recommend. Service ,as usual , was very good and attentive. We love visiting the walkford and always have lovely food

We had a lovely Sunday lunch, here. The food was delicious and very well priced. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The atmosphere and surroundings were nice and uplifting.

We always receive a warm welcome at Walkford, Jack, Holly and both Bens are a real credit to Greene King, the place was buzzing when we visited and the service was great. We always look forward to going here, the chef never disappoints us, the food is always cooked to perfection There is always a nice atmosphere, and the staff as always seem happy and friendly.

The food and service by very attentive staff was excellent. The christmas menu had plenty of variety. The table was festively decorated adding to the Festive ambience.

Friendly service , good menu choice for vegetarians.. drinks and food still reasonably priced compared to other pubs.. food wine beer all good quality.. would recommend.

What can we say about this place, always a warm welcome and friendly service from Jack, Holly and both Bens, the place was buzzing tonight, and service was great, always made to feel welcome, all staff are friendly and welcoming, and food as always was great. We always look forward to coming here, as we know we won’t be disappointed, great value for money.

A superb experience from the initial communication to book 17 people for a Xmas lunch all eating different from the menu to the minute we left, Well looked after from start to finish, sally was excellent along with other staff, Food was all correct and hot, also value and lovely Thank you, Very recommended.

We moved to the area on Monday and have used The Walkford every day. Staff and service has been great and we have taken advantage of some offers. Whoever invented 'Level Head' needs a serious promotion! We are so pleased to have The Walkford nearby.

I am lucky enough to have this pub as my local - brilliant staff, excellent food, great atmosphere and always value for money, would recommend to anyone.

We were a group of over 30 and the service was excellent we were in the skittle hall for our event had the Christmas set menu. I had steak which was tender and perfectly cooked all the meals were hot and lots of compliments made about the Christmas Turkey dinner. The staff were polite and efficient. Great Value for money. Well done Walkford team you made our Christmas Celebration.

Me and the wife stopped in for lunch today for the first time after a morning of Christmas shopping, and we can safely say we will be back, every member of staff we had interaction with were friendly, polite and wanted to help. The meals were brilliantly sized and tasted great also so a very happy husband and wife. Thankyou to you all.

Always have a good meal here, great value and pleasant staff. Worth booking as can get very busy. Has a great skittle alley for reasonable hire.

Disinterested staff, Not engaging, little knowledge on both food and drink products , and did not advise of the Lunch time offers until drinks had been purchased. Food was OK as was the draught beer quality.

Greene King pub & restaurant with a large selection of beers, also has a coffee machine. Also has a large garden. The bar staff are friendly & make sure there is never a long queue. Food is as you would expect, I do enjoy their Eton Mess Sundae. If I did have one criticism, it is that while there is free Wi-Fi, it is hit & miss as to whether it is usable, probably more miss than hit, and given 4g isn’t good in the area it isn’t somewhere that you could sit for a couple of hours working over a couple of hours.

Great meals every time we come. Generous portion , nice pub and friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Would recommend to anyone

Food was fantastic service was brilliant

We stay at Hoburne Naish at least three times a year. The Walkford is our go to pub for consistently great value food and excellent Abbott Ale! This time we tried a Sunday lunch for the first time and it couldn’t be faulted, definitely the best in the local area. The two main meals deals are extremely good value, the food is always hot and well presented by very friendly staff. We returned for steaks on Thursday evening, the sirloins we ordered were perfectly cooked, thanks Alex, compliments to the chef! We will be back again to see you in April next year.

Lovely Green King pub. Good menu, efficient service, friendly staff.

Popped in yesterday on the off chance that we could get a table. The lady that welcomed us was lovely and although they were quite booked up she managed to find us a table. All the staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We chose a bottle of wine and two Hunters Chicken meals. It was all absolutely lovely. We would definitely recommend a visit.

We'd not been to the Walkford before, our family were coming down from Surrey to visit the Sammy Miller museum with us and we wanted lunch somewhere nearby. This pub was a great choice, the menu suited all three generations and the food was well cooked and was presented promptly. We had our labrador with us as they are very dog friendly. Two other families had dogs and the staff made a fuss of them all. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a friendly dining experience.

A friendly, clearly popular, local. We didn't dine when we visited, but plenty did. If we'd have been holidaying for linger, we'd have definitely dined. A great team ethic was clear, it was spacious and inviting 😀

We always make a point of coming for dinner here when we are down in the new forest,they do 2 mains for 15 pounds and the food is excellent, great service and a nice selection of beers.

Had a lovely meal, the new menu looked lovely, and the burger and a pint deal were a great addition which my partner and I thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and our server was cheery and helpful. Will be going back in the future and have already convinced family to go give it a try.

Although we live locally, this was our first ever visit to THE WALKFORD. We eat out daily and have been to many, many pubs and restaurants around this area, but planned on trying out this one today. The moment we entered we were greeted with a warm welcome and a friendly smile which, although is usually expected, surprisingly this is not always the case in all eateries unfortunately. After ordering our drinks we ventured into the garden area which is large, Well kept and enclosed and has a small play area for young children. There is plenty of outside seating which is laid out to give space between. As the pictures show, there is plenty of food available on the menu for all taste buds. Our particular meals were very well presented, cooked to perfection, hot and served on a warmed plate by friendly, helpful and attentive staff. All in all 100% satisfaction. We certainly recommend a visit to this very clean and welcoming establishment and wish to thank Alex and his team for the great all round service and hard work involved in the smooth running of THE WALKFORD!

Always a warm welcome, good food and reasonably priced drinks. £9.99 Bottle of Prosecco on Friday nights (Fizz Fridays) and other deals. Lots of good live music each Friday evening throughout the summer months. Staff are friendly and accommodating. It’s our favourite local pub restaurant.

We had a Sunday roast at 5pm. The food was very good. Half way through our meal, guests were shown to the next table. They allowed their dog to sit on a dinning chair with paws on the dining table in the restaurant which I thought was unhygienic in a restaurant. When challenged about this, the management said it was a dog friendly pub, so we left after our main course, never to return.

Excellent menu with lots of choices available. Very reasonable prices and friendly staff. Dogs are welcome and there is a cosy fire if it's cold.

Had a delicious macaroni dish with my family. The staff were super nice but it was a bit loud in this pub. Least people around us were happy, just had to have a chit-chat. Still, I highly recommend this pub. You can visit Milford on Sea just down the road to walk off the yummy meal.

Nice pub but limited, a bit big and open for my liking. I would have preferred some small private areas or sections. Outdoors area is very nice. Limited selection of beers though

The food was ok....... Fancy words on the menue can always be misleading 😉 BUT......do NOT use the toilets!! I'm sorry to say this but the toilets were disgusting. No joke......the stench of piss was overwhelming and white mould on the door was alarming 😲 I expect it in Kathmandu but not in Walkford. I'm lost for words........ Eat the food and go to the toilet outside is the only answer 🫤

Lunch for 9 people. Menu was varied and catered for vegetarians as well. Reasonably priced. Good friendly service. Would go again.

i have been to have a meal with for years now and always enjoyed it BUT last night i had Hunters Chicken and the Chicken was really dry and any sauce was non existent and stuck to the side of the dish and Bacon was hard to find i was really disappointing as we always enjoy coming to you for the good service and pleasant waitresses etc

We went as a group of 40 plus u3a members to play skittles. We all enjoyed the evening so definitely recommend the Walkford.

First time for a few years. Both of us had the fish, beautiful. Good food served quickly and nice hot plates. Good bar service and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. Ten out of ten.

Always have a decent time in here. Good tasty food, with good drinks selection. Reasonably priced and always have some sort of offer or deal available. Also have a bar area which allows dogs, a main dining area, and a great outdoor facility.

We went there as a family for lunch with 10 adults and 4 small children and the staff were amazing and so friendly. The food was superb and we had such a great time. The steak and ale pie was especially good!

What a great place to eat the Service is fast and efficient the food hot and tasty with good size portions a great vegetarian options on the menu they really have it spot on here. Of all the local places to grab a well priced meal and drink this is the very best highly recommended

Good deals on lunches. 2 pub meals for 15 pounds which was a bargain! My children loved the luxury hot chocolate with marshmallows. Was a nice place to stop before driving off home after visiting Barton on Sea.

Lovely country pub. Very clean and tidy. Very friendly, helpful staff. The food was excellent in the main but I will say the traditional breakfast was a little greasy.

Been coming to the Walkford for quite awhile now and always found the food good unfortunately went for Sunday lunch the dinner turned up cold they gave us a new plate of food well I think it was the potatoes were like bullets and was generally disappointed. Great shame

My family and I went for a meal today. I had the macaroni cheese with rocket and foccata. The mac cheese was lovely but unfortunately the foccatia was solid couldn't even break it let alone bite it. I was Disappointed All the other meals were lovely. staff and atmosphere was good. AB.

Food was decent (had the steak and chips), although it wasn't brilliant. The atmosphere was lovely. Service was good, however, I look under 25 so I was asked to show ID for my alcohol purchase, to prove I was over 18 (which I have no issue with doing, and have done so in many other places), but I only carry a PASS CitizenCard with me, not my driving license - CitizenCard is a valid form of age ID from the government and part of the Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS), and is recommend for use by the Home Office in order to avoid people losing their driving licenses, and I've never had an issue with using it before. However, I was told that they can't accept a CitizenCard (why?) and can only accept driving licenses as proof of ID. This is despite the Green King website saying that any PASS logo ID is valid for proof of ID. It was quite embarrassing being told that I had to change the drink on my order, when I had brought proof of age with me and I've never had issues with CitizenCard in other venues before - I'd been really looking forward to having a drink with my meal after a busy day on holiday down here, so it was annoying to be denied my drink, despite having valid ID and the website saying it's acceptable. Besides this, the visit was quite good, and the food was decent, but I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to return.

We visited today, but actually ended up leaving as we were sat down 20 minutes and noone came up to take a drinks/food order. Very disappointed. The pub wasn't busy at all, so no excuse.

Really nice place to relax have meal or just a drink in or outside, they keep sending me free drinks and food offers it's really good always accommodating.
