The Walhampton Arms in New Forest

Have visited on a number of occasions in the past and always had good food and service. This time the service was, as always, friendly and efficient and a good pint of Flacks bitter. The Pork Belly on the specials menu was disappointing though. As someone else also posted recently the mash was a strange consistency and rather chewy. The pork belly was a good sized portion of meat but rather tough and the skin was soft and inedible rather than the crispy crackling usually found with this dish elsewhere. Based on past experiences I would certainly visit the Walhampton Arms again but would give the Pork Belly a miss next time.

We stayed for a night with a few friends. The room was very good. Located in a separate building. (The homemade shortbread with the complimentary tea and coffee was delicious!) What was disappointing was the breakfast. "The full English" was a bit stingy. It came with a single slice of toast.

The service was very good but let down by the food. We had haggis bon bons to start which were quite nice but the mains were very disappointing, pork belly special not great with almost chewy mash potato, jerk sea bass, best avoided

The restaurant was recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint. The Carvery was beautifully cooked (beef, pork and turkey), and the vegetables were just right. The best part was the freshly prepared sauces, from horseradish, apple, and cranberry, to the gravy. The restaurant setting was cosy, even though it’s a Sunday and very busy. Staff are welcoming, friendly, and professional, completing the overall experience. Highly recommended.

Visited The Wallhampton Arms for Sunday lunch today, for the first time. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food (carvery) was delicious and prices were reasonable. Ruben, who’s currently running the show, was a good host, and he was quick to praise his staff. Definitely one to recommend, if you’re visiting the New Forest.

Rooms are super tidy and comfortable with rustic styles. Food is absolutely delicious with elegant decorations - Masterpiece on the plate! Service top of the top - taking care of every customer with the highest care and details to customized their needs- MASSIVE THANK YOU!

Great value carvery. Pleasant attentive staff. Beautiful venue. Would wholeheartedly recommend. 4 Adults, spontaneous Sunday lunch, booking recommended, we were lucky to get a table.

Just had lunch here,first time for a while , food still as good as we remember if not better,service also very good,very pleasant waiter. Will not wait to long before we return.

Excellent Xmas Day lunch. Prompt service, music not too loud, no rowdy parties, no children running around, nicely decorated for Xmas, carvery plentiful and hot. We enjoyed all the courses, served with a smile, and will look forward to next Christmas.

Had Christmas day dinner. Food and service was really good, no complaints at all. First time we have ever done this and would definitely recommend the Walhampton.

Friendly staff. But the food wasn't the best, we had the carvery which was just heated up frozen foods. Not great. Doubt we will return.

Great accommodation and food highly recommended.

We had the Cassoulet. This contained 2 small sausages, a few butter beans and no duck whatsoever (at least neither of us found any duck). For £18.50 each this was to say the least disappointing. We do not plan to visit this pub / restaurant any time soon.

We went for,a birthday,meal.decided on the carvery.all hot and well presented.staff were great.even place candles,and lite them for person whom birthday it was been before shall go again

Another overnight stay here our 5 time in 12 months, But the first time we have eaten in the evening, Wow the gluten free fish and chips was the best we have eaten the batter was lovely and light and the fish fresh and soft chips were lovely and as normal the service and stay was 5*

What a little gem this place is! Hannah and Ryan who run the pub with rooms could not be more welcoming. I came with my parents and sister and we had two rooms. Both were really lovely - modern, clean, light, everything you would want and more. Even some home made shortbread to welcome us! Great location, right on the edge of the New Forest and only a mile from Lymington and the coast. Food was excellent. We ended up eating there both evenings and had two breakfasts : all the food was wonderful, generous, beautifully prepared, great quality and very tasty! The staff there couldn't do enough for us, it really made our time away special.

Very friendly service from Ryan and Ruben. Food is good, but the friendly feel of the staff is what counts. Thoroughly recommended.

Met up with friends for Sunday lunch none of us had been here before and thought it looked really nice when we got there. We were shown to our table and ordered some drinks. When the barman delivered the drinks they were just plonked all together on the table which was unusual. We had asked for a jug of water which didn’t arrive. Eventually we had our order taken for food and once again requested some water. We got our food (carvery which was really nice) and still no water. We then asked again for the water and the waitress said she had asked the barman so didn’t know why we hadn’t got it (seemed she wasn’t allowed to fetch it). It then arrived a little while later. After our main course had been cleared away (by the barman) we waited ages to hopefully be offered a dessert menu. We eventually had to ask a member of staff to see one as weren’t offered. Once again we sat there for ages with our dessert menu and no one asked for our order. We then asked a staff member if we could order dessert and he just walked off, then returned very irate saying we had demanded dessert and he was just a bar man helping out. At first we thought he was joking, but he was deadly serious and quite aggressive saying we had demanded him to take the order. This was now well after 3pm and we arrived at 1:30. Suddenly we all lost our appetite for dessert as his rudeness didn’t make us feel welcome. We decided to leave. Told the waitress when paying what had happened who got the manageress, who was very apologetic and did offer a discount which we declined. Such a shame as the food was good, service was slow considering the number of people in there. We wouldn’t recommend people not to go there - just think we were unlucky with our lack of service and the rude barman. Heard the people on the table next to us when clearing away (by the manageress) getting asked if everything was ok and if they wanted to see the dessert menu so think we were just unfortunate in our experience.

This is our third time here at the Walhampton Arms. As always we enjoyed the lovely food and friendly staff. Tender roast and fabulous gravy. It has been a coincidence that we have arrived during an international rugby season and again have had fun discussing the games with the knowledgeable bar staff.

Went for lunch with some friends and family. I have been previously and enjoyed my lunch again today. Food is quite simple but very tasty and good value.

We were very disappointed with the standard of cleanliness. The grouting in the shower was black and the dining room could do with a spring clean. It certainly didn’t warrant the price. Having said that the staff were very welcoming and friendly

Lovely inside and no garden as such but a nice courtyard and picnic benches with flowerpots etc as you drive in. Only had drinks/snacks but a good selection and food others were eating looked nice.

Lovely staff here. Food was ok, chips were lovely. I had the fish too. The atmosphere was good and there were plenty of seating when we arrived.

Good overnight stay if you are catching a ferry over to the IOW. Just under a mile from the ferry terminal. Very old coaching inn. Accomodation was separate to pub in what I imagine would have been outbuildings of some kind many years ago. They have been tastefully modernised with good clean accomodation, a very comfortable Queen size bed and fabulous welcome homemade shortcake. We travelled with our dog so this accomodation with its own front door was ideal. Breakfast was good. Plenty of choice for cooked breakfast but the buffet was limited to cereal, fruit juice and banana and apples. To be fair the cooked breakfast was lovely and the cafetiere of coffee stayed hot. (I hate cold coffee). There is no pavement to walk to Lymington which is a shame but obviously not the fault of the pub. Lymington is a lovely town and marina and well worth a visit.

Misschien lag het aan de dag en/of het tijdstip, maar we kwamen hier rond 18.00 als eersten binnen voor een hapje eten met onze kleine van nog geen 1 jaar oud. Personeel was niet erg verwelkomend, eten was niet bijzonder. Sfeer was afwezig. Rijd dan als alternatief naar The Huntsman of Brockenhorst, zou ik zeggen, waar een dag later op hetzelfde tijdstip mensen van jong tot oud in en uit liepen.

Stopped doing food at 2 very poor

Went for Sunday carvery at 12.30 opened at 12.00. Turkey ok, beef was stringy. Was given a charger but plate was cold. Roast potatoes were cold and hard, tasted as though they had been warmed up at some point. All vegetables were cold, Yorkshire pudding was inedible burnt and hard and cold. I ordered sorbet, one scoop was half melted mess in the dish the other was minuscule. Would not recommend.

Food really was bad and the staff wernt very helpful definitely will not be returning its a shame because it was once a great carvery

The staff were quite blunt, we spent a lot there, it was a small wedding group of around 10 of us and when the bill was paid. We continued chatting. We waited for empty glasses to be cleared from the table and some remaining bits from the meal. A coffee was asked for which caused the member of staff to comment that they would have to open another tab as the rest had been paid. Honestly we were not going to run away without paying for a single coffee. Where are the days of yore when around £400 spent as well as a room booked warranted free tea or coffee for everyone. Not good customer service tbh. It was my daughters big day and I presumed the staff could of made it feel so.

Lunch in the bar area with 2 dogs and all of us were made to feel very welcome. Nicely spaced out and great food. Smaller portions available of most mains and main price is generally in £10-16 range. Friendly staff too. Would go again.

Went with a friend for dinner. The pub is under new management and the goid is excellent. Local.produce is used wherever possible with a friendly hist and hoid service. Highly recommended.

what a shame! the rooms and pub and surrounding area is beautiful, but the service was very let down by unreliable staff, the owners were lovely and couldn't do enough for you, but staff not turning up for work is a disgrace and those that let the owners down should be ashamed of themselves. We stayed for a night and got up in time for the opening of the 8.30 breakfast but the service did not open until 8.50am as the owner was let down by staff no show, I felt extremely sorry for them as this added so much pressure to one person doing all the cooking and service for a full B&B so there were at least 15 people if not more waiting to be fed, we ended up leaving without breakfast and when i handed my key back I just wanted to give the owner a cuddle as she must have been distraught! There were a couple of B&B'ers outside that said they would offer to give a hand and I so hope they did. If this place could get reliable staff the place would be a gold mine, as the setting and lodges are stunning. I think there are a few tricks being missed with evening entertainment, live music etc, not bands but maybe a singer or musician to draw in the crowds, local advertising etc, the night we were there, there was a steady flow of customers who came and went, but obviously what you want is people to stay and spend, so I think the added addition of music would possibly draw in the crowds with the right advertising, once the pub is an established favourite you'll them get excellent staff, we would then return as the place is really beautiful. The rooms accept dogs which is a massive bonus, the rooms are very well appointed with lots of space and fantastic bathrooms. I would definitely return if staffing issues were fixed and some sort of entertainment were added and this place really could be a buzzing place to go. I really wanted to give it 5* but there are issues that need to be fixed.

Seriously unbelievable food and service. We turned up without booking (7 of us) and the service we received was second to none and the food was well worth the money. A big selection of food on offer and large portions too. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed our stay. Walhampton arms easy to find with plenty of parking in a quiet location but close to I.O W ferry / Lyminton. and central for most attractions. Bedroom ( superior king ) was good size with comfy bed and good size shower. We were made very welcome and variety of items for breakfast ( cereal/ fruit/cooked ). Catered for gluten free for cooked breakfast and the evening meal.

Lovely stay. Great rooms. Dog friendly. Can't fault it really. If I were picky I was disappointed they weren't open Sunday evening as it was Avery limited take away menu in the area. If I had known I would have gone elsewhere for that night. Thank you for a good stay.

This is my first visit for a couple of years, it has been redecorated and it looks clean and tidy. The staff were very pleasant. My party had the Sunday carvery which is our normal, I would have to say it was good but not as good as it used to be. It might be the sign of the times. This will not stop me returning.

This was the venue of a wake for my last paternal uncle. Excellent buffet and drinks. Friendly staff.

Fabulous lunch had at the Walhampton Arms today. Good sized portions and really tasty. Sian the landlady was lovely too. Would happily recommend and we will definitely return.

Really nice rooms - well set out with everything you need for a short stay. Shower was super, bed comfy . Lots of parking outside the room. Breakfast was delicious.

Lovely place .4 days here and could have stayed longer. The food was amazing and the sausages are to die for .amazing chef .Best food we ever tasted The room is lovely. Bed comfy but just big enough for two of us .lovely scenery. Nice and quiet just how we like it but I think its because the time of year .I think summer would be a lot busier. The staff amazing and very helpfull so a big cheers from us .any problems we had they soon sorted it .so thankyou for a lovely birthday break and I would definitely come back and recommend this place to everyone .oh and thanks to the lady who cleaned our room every day. We visited bourmouth and beuleigh car museum which is 15 mins away and bourmouth 1hr away so we packed a lot in in the 4 days we were there .beuligh museum was a fantastic place to visit .very quiet as it was a week day and bourmouth Christmas Market was brilliant. Hope this review helps

This is a wonderful pub/hotel. The food is wonderful. The rooms are super. The parking is ample. Only 2 minutes from the IOW ferry. A great place to stay.

Lovely owner, she was an absolute love and made us feel very welcome. The bed was amazing, comfy and the room was spotless. My son and me stayed for one night, he loved it to. Breakfast was good too and lots of variety to choose from.

We came for the Lymington Seafood Festival and stayed here, the room was very clean and large, the dining area was great and the food was wonderful. Close to the harbor yet a very quiet location. Would highly recommend this facility.

Really nice rooms which look fairly new. Best shower I've had for a long time! We had a massive power cut whilst we were there for the area. Staff dealt with it as best they could, offered drinks and cold food. Loads of free parking.

Great venue, fantastic room and breakfast

A birthday lunch booked a week in advance spoilt as a lot of the published menu items were not available. Service was indifferent and slow and, despite being nearly empty, when our food finally arrived for a party of 7 it was universally mediocre to poor. Bad avocado salad, overcooked fries. Just dreadful.

Saturday lunch for four. Very quiet at 1pm. Food was OK but chicken dish was very overcooked and the fish dishes were pretty underwhelming. Things have changed since we’ve been here last sadly.

Leuke inn. Lekker gegeten en gedronken. Lekker op het terras in de zon gezeten. Ontbijt was niet perfect ( personeelstekort). De inn zit in een rare bocht aan een doorlopende ( niet super drkke) weg. Kamer was prima.
