Nice location, nice views, great band. Average beer, average chips/garlic bread/coffee. Extreme prices. I was driving through on a Sunday evening, thought I'd stop by as they had a band on, grab a pint, quick bite to eat and a coffee. It was a nice enough vibe, lovely sunny evening, band were great. What prompted me to write this review was my credit card statement- I didn't think much of it at the time, but can no see I've been billed £23.85! For this I had some chips with a meagre bit of cheese, some garlic bread, one pint and one espresso. Others were also complaining about the drinks prices. Had cheaper in Central London, crazy money.

Absolutely outstanding. We visited Saturday the 20th April and there were around 14 of us. The pub is situated in the heart of the New Forest and is so picturesque. We arrived for family reunion and we were not disappointed. The food ranged from mediterranean seabass to burgers, tuna chiabatta, and omelettes. The meals were superb, the hospitality was exceptional. Puddings were extremely generous The building is heaped in history and the pub is extremely clean and tidy. The sun was shining the place was busy, that in itself speaks volumes. Thank you Mel and Nick for a very special afternoon.

We arrived at 4pm, there was 14 of us!! The staff, all of them very friendly and helpful. The food was really lovely, and as i said 14 of us, well we all had lovely food not one complaint, that to me says that this pub is a must for a good homecooked meal. We will be going back, loved the setting, the food and felt very welcome.

Just sat in my garden with a coffee thinking about what a wonderful afternoon I spent yesterday afternoon catching up with family at the SWT. Have never been before and would certainly go again. Notwithstanding the company the whole experience was just lovely; lovely setting; lovely welcoming Pub. Excellent food; excellent service. So relaxing to be looked after do well and although it got busier later into the afternoon felt under no pressure to go. Fantastic afternoon. Thank You SWT; will definitely visit again!

Terrible. Has gone totally down hill. I remember when this was a great place to come NOT NOW. Building run down and disgustingly dirty. No idea how to serve drinks. Food relied on quantity not quality - in fact there was no quality. It was awful. Probably the worst experience I've ever had. The only good thing I can find to say is the sachet of tomato sauce was edible. My advice - give this place a VERY wide berth.

The food was overpriced and was nudging gastropub prices for very much 'standard' pub grub. Some of the massively thick chips weren't cooked, and the sandwich which we were assured by the waitress (who checked with the kitchen) would be toasted, wasn't toasted. On the upside at least the ingredients seemed fresh. The interior decor was ok but quite tired, and all the seat cushions were strained which was quite off-putting as we couldn't find unstained seats to sit at. In the end we decided to ask for the '10% discretionary tip' to be removed from our bill ... the first time I've ever done that in a restaurant. A pub of this calibre shouldn't be adding tips by default.

Absolutely love the Tyrrell, great location, good food & drink as well as lovely staff & landlady. My only gripe & maybe others won't agree was the suggested service charge of 10% when paying, tipping is my choice & I declined the charge & did tip as intended but I don't agree with the charge when just 2 people eating. Reliving childhood memories. Used to go here with my sister and parents as a child in the 60's. We were greeted by a very lovely lady, chatty and very friendly. Ordered 2 baguettes 1 with chicken and bacon and 1 with prawn with Marie Rose sauce with chips. A side of coleslaw which was massive 😀 I have a fish allergy so chef did my saute new potatoes instead of chips as they couldn't guarantee that there wouldn't be cross contamination. Half a larger and lime and a perfect glass of Guinness. The place doesn't look much different from what I can remember, big outside area, big car park and they accept campers and motorhomes. Overall a lovely few hours and topped off with a quick visit to Rufus Stone.

We have just returned from a stay here, with our motorhome. We intended to stay just one night, but enjoyed it so much that we stayed for two, despite the rain and the mud in the woods. We found the staff to be warm, friendly and welcoming, and very willing to advise and inform us about the history, events and surroundings. It is out of season, so the pub was very quiet on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday was very busy, because of the exceptionally good Sunday lunch. Food from the normal menus is good and plentiful, drinks are a good selection, and the place is comfortable rather than cosy. Very large car park, well kept play area, and a lot of outdoor tables for sunny days ( no glassware outside for obvious reasons). Dog and people friendly, and we’ll be back with the family when the weather improves. No hesitation in recommending this place.

Beautiful location and a pub we used to enjoy visiting many years ago sadly the pub seems very run down and in need of redecorating. Ordered a pint of beer and pint of cider served in four flimsy plastic cups just not the same as having a proper pint glass. Pub very quiet hardly anyone else there but took 40 mins for a portion of chips to reach us in a polystyrene tray no serviettes no forks just sad little portion of chips. Will definitely not be returning we visit pubs every weekend and always sit in the garden on a sunny day never been served a pint in two plastic cups each.

Shabby. Looks like it could do with some TLC. Outdoor furniture perished and worn out. Desperately in need of refurbishment. Regular bands in the summer but be warned, many are truly awful. Really dire. Embarrassingly bad. Last weekend I had a sherry and a bottle of cider - £14.15 . Yes, that's not a typo. Fourteen quid for 2 drinks. Kerrrr-ching! Unbelievable.

Somewhere along the line, this once stunning pub has lost its mojo ☹️😞😔😔😔. Very bland, lots of odd bits of china just pushed randomly on top of beams - doesn’t seem to be any style or character left to it. Why not just clear the lot and be done with it - owner obviously not into that kind of thing. This is the second time we have camped at the Sir Walter Tyrell and it’s seems it definitely won’t be our last. We are so impressed on how Mel and her staff work to provide a really relaxing time with the added bonus of quality food and beer. The pub really is in an idyllic location and I loved sitting watching the ponies graze in the forest. The Sunday lunch was delicious with very generous portions. Have visited before but this time very unimpressed. A large glass of wine and a pint of lager came in at £18 and then to add insult to injury we needed to pay a £2 per glass deposit to 'upgrade' to a hard plastic glass rather than a flimsy festival style disposable glass because we wanted to sit outside in the garden. The garden was deserted quite the opposite of our previous visit due to lots of rubbish bins (for all the disposable glasses and plates that any outside food is served on) which are attracting loads of wasps. A really horrid experience. I personally think the disposable glass or pay a deposit for the upgrades plastic version is to cut down on staffing the outside area as then there are no tables to clear. Shan't be returning any time soon, far better local options in the area.

Wish I’d read reviews before going here. When we arrived we were told food would be a wait which it was!! 1.5 hours waiting for food. Service was extremely slow too which we were not warned about. Waitresses came to take an order and still didn’t clear the table so we ended up clearing our plates to neighbouring tables. One waitress was so so rude and condescending on multiple occasions, I think she has been mentioned in previous reviews. Children’s meals £8.50!!! With no drink or pudding included. AND only allowed for under 7’s! Desserts seemed as though they’re supermarket and microwaved. no sauce on sticky toffee pudding. Tinned yellow custard. £6.75 for a cold waffle which didn’t have the chocolate sauce as advertised and the ‘black cherry sauce’ was 3 tinned cherries on the side of the plate. £3.68 for a little cup of cheap carton apple juice for the children. Absolutely gobsmacked when the bill came out (there’s no drinks menu to check prices before ordering). Overall was hugely disappointed and couldn’t believe the prices, their the same as some much nicer places you could visit. I spoke to the manager about our concerns explaining I would make this review but wanted them to be aware beforehand. She gave a 10% discount on our bill and was apologetic for the experience we’d had. A huge shame because the outlook is beautiful but that’s the only thing doing for it unfortunately.

A good stop for lunch. Hidden away in the Forest with a car park just up the road, there were then places to walk off the lunch! We were very boring and had fish and chips and scampi and chips. Both were nicely cooked. We sat outside in a large area of green. There was play equipment for the kids which made the place appeal to families. Behind the green area where we sat there was a campsite. This was pretty empty whilst we were there and so gave us no problems. I can imagine if it was busy it may not be quite so pleasant but we had an enoyable meal there.
