A very nice and friendly place. It was quite busy when I first went in but I was welcomed and shown a seat. I only had a tea and a scone but they were excellent quality. The toilet was clean and tidy. The building is Grade II listed and there were a number of old pictures of it on the wall. Will definitely return if I'm ever in Ripon again.

Great little cafe. Very cosy, staff were friendly, the cakes and scones were probably some of the best I've had. They even had gluten-free scones that didn't destroy themselves when buttered. If in Ripon, pop in. 👍

Love coming to Ripon from East Yorkshire, we had done a lovely walk along the River Skell & Laver in beautiful sunshine yesterday and were looking for somewhere for lunch and happened on this café in a beautiful building. Greeted by a very friendly lady who found us a table in their back room. Menu was wonderful with plenty to choose from, after a lot of deliberation I choose brie & caramelised onion panini it was delicious as was the coffee, all very reasonable priced. Staff are very attentive they are wonderful, don't know why we've been in here before but we will definitely return.

We had the best scones ever this morning at Wakeman’s. They are large and the clotted cream and jam were equally delicious. I think the jam is homemade. Hayley was so accommodating. I had several deviations from the menu and every time I said, “could I have…” she smiled and said, “sure.” The place was packed but service was prompt. This is the oldest building in Ripon, near the car park. Try it. You will like it.

We visit Ripon maybe 4 to 5 times a year from our home in Doncaster and always go for lunch here. It was certainly a lucky find some years ago and we haven't been anywhere else in Ripon since. The staff are so friendly and even if they are full, they will go out of their way to reserve a table for you at a later time. The food is also consistently good, whether its one of their specials, sandwiches, ploughman's or a delicious scone or the many mouth watering cakes. They also do afternoon tea which is very reasonable. The lady who owns the tearooms is so welcoming and knows a lot of customers by their names which is always a good sign when people are regulars. She will always stop for a little chat During the Covid pandemic when we were able to visit places, albeit with masks on, the owner did so well by distancing the tables and putting up perspect screens between tables which made you feel safe. We are certainly looking forward to our next visit in the near future for more delicious cakes and sandwiches. Best wishes to the lady owner and her loyal staff, who obviously enjoy working there. Keep up the good work

First time in Ripon and this cafe looked very nice both inside and out. When we arrived a couple were just leaving the only free table so we sat down and then noticed it had a reserved sign, the waitress arrived to inform us that we only had 35 minutes and would therefore obly be able to order simple cold items except for tea/coffee. Complying I went for a tea cake (which turned out to be excellent - lots of cinnamon in it.) Unfortunately 10 minutes before we were due to leave a very elderly couple, who both had ambulatory problems, in fact I thought if we didn't get the wife to sit down immediately she wouldn't manage to stand much longer! So we swigged down a last mouthful of tea (Nice China and good sized tea pot by no hot water) paid up and left. The couple were a real set of characters and retrospectively I think most of those in the cafe knew what was going to happen as they all looked around at us when we sat at the table - the couple had a regular booking at that table for at least the last 40 years, a fact transmitted to me the moment the husband arrived. The other food looked good and I'm planning on going again but not at 12.30 on a Saturday!I suggest you book first.

I visited The Wakeman's House two days running. The first time, simply because I hadn't been there and I was in need of a coffee. The second time was today, when one of the waitresses ( that isn't the correct word), Hostess would be better, recognised me from the previous day, and jocularly said that 'my twin was in yesterday'. I asked for a bacon butty to which I was informed that because they didn't have cheese scones yesterday, they had today, so I changed my mind. My friend had a sausage sandwich. We both had a Latte coffee. First and foremost, I have never had such a hot Latte, which is a good thing about this cafe. The cheese scone is good, although being a funny so and so, I prefer more cheese in my scones. It was passable in my eyes, though others would say it was cheesy enough for them. The sausage sandwich is very filling and looked good. One thing I would suggest is that with items like bacon/sausage sandwiches knives and forks should be available as normality, rather than just a knife. It's less messy and stops things dropping from the bread onto ones shirt !! This is not a complaint, but a constructive comment, which I think could be useful. A place of atmosphere and conviviality, I would highly recommend this cafe. You haven't seen the last of me, so keep dishing up the good standard !!!!

It certainly was. It's always difficult going back to somewhere you've enjoyed, as sometimes the standards slip, but here it was still the excellent service, clean tables and attentive staff and an excellent lunch. The Wakeman's House is on the corner of the market Square in Ripon, and we have passed it many a time and always thought it looked like a public house, but today my wife and i actually spotted the menu in the doorway and decided to give this Cafe a try> We had Savory Cream Tea for two except I had Coffee (same Price the snack comprised of A large cheese scone, a small but plentyful ramakin of cream cheese, and the same of chutney, a pot of tea for my wife and a large black coffeefor me, the complete cost £7:30 very reasonable for two people. The staff were tidy, friendly and helpful. The service was prompt and the snack tasted excellent. We will be putting this on our regular visit list for the next Ripon Market day, thank you all. One point to note cash not card, which is not a problem.

We had a day out in Ripon and went in Wakemans House for lunch. My husband is allergic to gluten and lactose so finding somewhere to have lunch out is usually hard work. When we walked in we explained to the waitress and she told us there was no problems at all as all sandwich fillings were made in house. My husband had a prawn sandwich on white gluten free bread and it was the best sandwich he has had in years.

We had a lovely lunch at Wakeman’s House. A great period building right on the corner of the central square, good food and friendly service. A good selection of freshly made cakes. A nice place to stop off when we were passing through Rippon.

I visited the Wakemans House 2nd October 2018 for the first time with my Mum, sister and baby Nephew whilst on a trip to see family in Ripon. As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by such lovely staff and warm smiles. Although extremely busy with all tables being used(food constantly coming out customers constantly walking in) we were seated quickly, not once did we feel an inconvenience, even though we had a pram.

We live locally and are always in early - hot scones and coffee - bliss. No better place to sit and take in the ambiance. Can get busy on Market day (Thursday) but you can book a table. Take in the City, visit the Cathedral and then sit and enjoy !!!

We live in Barnsley but always make time for a visit to our favourite cafe when in Ripon. The cream teas are delicious with the scones being the best I have ever tasted. They are so light and obviously made fresh every day. The staff are all lovely and very friendly. The cafe is very clean. Advisable to book because it is always so busy especially on Thursdays when it is market day.

Stumbled on this little eatery while visiting Knaresborough on a Sunday lunch time. We went in to get maybe a sandwich and thought it wasn’t going to be great to be honest but ended up having a cooked lunch and it was so good! The place was busy and you could tell they were locals as they were chatting across to each other. We looked at the menu and decided to have have a cooked meal. I ordered pie chips and peas and my husband a burger with chips salad and coleslaw and a pot of tea. You could actually get a 3 course Sunday lunch for £14.50! When mine came there were no peas but another bowl soon arrived full of fresh vegetables and a big jug of gravy. Food was really good the staff were lovely. The lady said that as she had been cooking Sunday lunches she gave me some of the veg. We were thoroughly impressed and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. Great food and great value for money! Definitely worth trying!

We popped into The Black Mulberry for a drink but ended up staying for a bite to eat, and I’m so glad we did! The food was delicious, with generous portions that left us more than satisfied. The staff were really lovely, super friendly and made us feel welcome right away. The place itself has a cosy, relaxed vibe, perfect for a casual meal or just grabbing a drink. Definitely a spot I’d visit again!

The staff are great. They accommodated our new baby and made sure we had room for the pram. The food is the best quality whenever we come. Every time we come it makes me think why we didn't eat there before this year!.
