Never again order was 8oz iron side steak ? £18.99 when it arrived 30 mins later { Not called the waiting room for no reason } it looked like a 4oz budgie steak iv had bigger peanuts i think the staff were very red faced i refused to pay and sent it back the so called meal funny enough they did not argue Never again would have spent more but had go and get something to eat It was a birthday meal ( I WAS NOT EVEN PAYING ) thanks WAITING ROOM for spoiling it . NEVER AGAIN

The pub in Edinburgh is a big disappointment because of the man who works (manager or waiter - in a blue shirt, bigger with a tattoo on his arm), extremely ill-mannered, rude and unprofessional. Food nothing special. The younger guy in the black shirt, all praises - absolutely wonderful, kind, sweet, helpful, professional...

Went for morning coffee with a group of friends. Friendly staff and plenty of room for 7 of us. Nice place.

Food was good, service was great, good place for lunch and a couple of beers

A regular visitor to this place over the years and seen the menu go through many iterations. Shame they no longer offer a breakfast menu nor any food until noon. Still, the staff are good, we frequently get our requested booth and the food is excellent. Worth a try for lunch.

Awful food at highly inflated prices. Had 6 wings which were tiny for £8.50. Meant to be bbq but all i could taste was vinegar. Cheap quality ingredients. Complained staff did nothing. Don’t waste your money eating here. Apparently they sub let the kitchen suggest you get rid of them before they wreck your business.

Really good fish and chips and beer. The service was fantastic. Thanks for putting up with us yanks!

i had booked a table for 4 on Friday 13th October for a work lunch on Thursday 19th October. we were going at 17.00 but had called Thursday morning to ask if we could come in at 13.00 instead the manager said this was fine and they looked forward to seeing us. when we arrived there was a notice on the door to say the kitchen was closed for the day so i spoke to the manager and asked her why did we not receive a call to let us know she said she called but there was no missed call on either mine or the college's phone. so no call was made. we wasted time and petrol getting down to the waiting room it was embarrassing to be hunting round for another restaurant on our phones outside the front of the waiting room to have this meeting. we found a lovely place called the Fountain that boked us in straight away with fast service and the food was amazing. thank you to the Fountain for saving the day. this was bad management from the waiting room. Disappointing

was in for a wee catchup with a close friend. the service behind the bar was excellent the music was a bit loud to talk but that is probably my age. great venue definitely recommend.

I spent many good times in this establishment before it became the Waiting room, but on recent visits, with one member of staff in particular (Hilda ) I sensed a certain frostiness! It was confirmed on my last & final visit there, when I was sitting , listening & watching my phone, when a crowd of around 10 people arrived & sat nearby. Because of the noise they were making, I moved to a quieter place. I continued what i was doing & while they were still chatting & laughing, she approached me & said could I turn my phone down or put plugs in. My phone wasn't loud, I could barely hear it for the noise at the area I had just left! The attitude & downright snobbery of these people is terrible! I grew up not far from Morningside, most of them weren't born or around when I lived nearby. DISGRACEFUL!!

Pleasant local bar/eatery with polite and efficient staff and an easy going laid back atmosphere. On my last visit my pint took a while to pour but it was of excellent quality and was well worth the wait. Has plenty of big screens for watching sport if that’s your thing and it can get particularly busy during the Six Nations rugby tournament in February and March. Have not eaten here before, but the food looks good and would try it on a future visit.

Main meal served in a paper takeaway tub, no plates given as it’s a ‘street food’ theme, despite being more expensive and of poor quality, would not recommend eating here.

Staff lovely and very welcoming, food terrible get a grip waiting room if you want survive,have gone to the waiting room for years and never had such terrible food.

I ordered the beef and mushroom casserole with puff pastry (steak pie).....£14.50.The portion size was ridiculously small and the meat was chewy. Probably the worst steak pie I have had .Staff were not bothered in the slightest that I didn't enjoy it,no offer of anything else or refund.

Ate here tonight whilst working away from home.I ordered the "beef and mushroom casserole with puff pastry"......steak pie to you and me. What was delivered was the smallest portion of veg and mash imaginable with the pie.The beef was chewy and came with a £14.50 price tag.The staff could not be more disinterested when I complained.No offer of anything else or refund was forthcoming. Needless to say, I will not be coming back!!

Came expecting to get eggs Benedict and scrambled egg on toast for my son to be told the menu has all changed and there's no breakfast options. I cannot fault the staff as they helped out with my kids. However nachos without sour cream is a crime! Also the server asked if my little boy would like a scoop of ice cream and sauce so I agreed, then my son asked for more so the man got him more. He failed to tell me it was £3 a bowl so I got conned £6 for ice cream. The waiter made out like it was free!

Would have been 5 stars, reserved a table to watch the rugby, plus drinks and nibbles however a couple came in and asked for the football to be shown, (take it they were locals), so we did not complain we just finished our drinks and left.

I ordered smashed avocado and poached egg on toast, at nearly £9 I expected 2 slices of toast at least, a decent portion…! Instead I was served only one small slice of white toast with a bit of avocado and poached egg. Unbelievable for the price, also doesn’t make sense as many of their other dishes at least give a little more for the price for example soup and a sandwich for £6. I told one of the waitresses I was unhappy only to be met with a blank look and a shrug of the shoulders. £9 for a slice of toast…crazy…!

A decent stroll out of the hustle and bustle of the city centre and you will find The Waiting Room. We only stopped in for drinks, but the venue was clean and welcoming. The staff were polite and efficient. We could see that the menu was good and that those who were eating around us had lovely looking dishes. Prices for our drinks were very good.

There’s a lot to like about The Waiting Room. It’s been in Morningstar for years so has generations of locals popping in. Since I was last in it’s been done up. It’s very bright with a wooden decor. I always thought of it being quite dark! When we were there the place was pretty busy but staff managed it all well. Groups sat at the well spaced tables enjoying the beer and food on offer and each other’s company. I started with the haggis Bon Bons before a main course of halloumi fajitas. Both were well made and tasty. I won’t be waiting too long to go back again.

Visited this establishment 23.12.21 part of a party of eight. Our arrival was less than welcoming, our host showed us to our table and his attitude was less than enthusiastic. Service was almost non existent and at the end of our main meals (about 2050hrs) we were told the kitchen was now closed and no desserts would be available. This allied to the fact that no card payments could be accepted and I had to make my way to the nearest ATM to get cash to settle the bill. In the present climate where the hospitality industry is suffering due to COVID this lot did nothing to advance their case. I will never under any circumstances this establishment again

We go to the waiting room on a regular basis with our 15 year old daughter usually book our table for 7pm and leave just before 9 as we need to catch our bus. We were there tonight booked a table for 7pm. The waiter took our order and soon after brought our drinks then our starter around 7.30pm the waitress came to our table and said we needed to leave at 8pm as we had children in our party so she had cancelled our food we asked to speak to the manager he said children under 18 are not allowed anywhere alcohol is being served, so why did the waiter take our order? As far as I am aware Scottish licensing laws says under 14 need to leave by 8pm. We were told to leave. We won't be back at anytime. 0 stars

Generally have always enjoyed the atmosphere and eating here, however last night I afraid I do not consider one sausage and chips from the children’s menu at £5.00 (our grandson doesn’t eat beans) to be good value by any stretch of the imagination. I disappointing end to their holiday stalling with us after 16 months of not being able to see them.

We ordered the new chicken goujons - lovely and curry sauces perfect. I ordered fajita with chimichurri and perfect, even had pickled veg and the right balance of sauce. My partner had the fish and chips and a massive portion but most important the batter was light and well balanced. Service awesome. Hands up to the new Waitingroom menu - very happy 😃 worth a few tries

The Waiting Room is a great bar in Morningside - the staff are friendly and the food is always good. Before Covid it used to have an amazing selection of craft beers, however since reopening the variety of craft beers is very limited and there seems to be more of the bigger brand beers, majority of which are C&C Group. If you like a good craft beer, would recommend going somewhere else which is really sad to say :(

Mi compañero y yo visitamos aquí el 12/08. La comida se sirvió poco después de que pedimos (10 minutos de espera como máximo), lo cual era bueno. Teníamos pescado y patatas fritas y el sándwich de pollo, realmente una hamburguesa de pollo, pero estaba delicioso. El pescado y las patatas fritas venían con guisantes blandos y salsa tártara. Estaba bien cocinado, tenía mucho sabor y se servía en papel de noticias auténtico de una tienda de patatas fritas: una gran presentación.Sin embargo, mi única crítica fue que se filtró mucho aceite del pescado al papel, lo que lo hizo bastante grasoso y aceitoso. Entiendo que después de todo esto es comida frita, así que estará grasosa. . . ¿Pero tal vez el pescado podría descansar durante dos minutos más o menos antes de colocarlo? Esto permitirá que se drene el exceso de aceite.Peter (el camarero) y su colega fueron muy amables y nos brindaron un buen servicio.En general, si estás en esta área, recomendaría este lugar para tomar buena comida.

Had the steak deal, waited about an hour for it to arrive steak was very fatty peppercorn sauce watery. Nice place for a drink but won’t eat again

This is a nice local pub in the Morningside area just South of Edinburgh city centre. The décor is modern. The bar is spacious and comfortable with a few TVs showing sports and there's a good selection of beers available.

Cena para dos con un compañero de trabajo. Pre-reservado. Mesa bien y camarera muy amable y servicial. La comida es mediocre en el mejor de los casos, nachos que eran estándar de pantano pero está bien. Chile se veía bien y se burló. Ensalada César horrible. Lechuga muy vieja marrón en la mayoría de los bordes y no aceptable. Cualquier chef habría visto esto y no lo habría servido. No hay excusa de la cocina. La camarera intentó arreglarlo y no nos acusaron, pero no. Vinos decentes, no hay una lista que era extraña, pero está bien. En general, necesita mejorar mucho en un mercado muy competitivo.

Had fish and chips here this evening and genuinely supremely well cooked and with superb taste - food as good as I have had anywhere. Excellent. Same last Sunday for breakfast.

A nice local pub/restaurant. Lively atmosphere with football playing on the tvs. Quiz night. Food was reasonable, prices reasonable for the area, service a little chaotic and slow though. Perhaps understaffed the evening we were in? We'd go back and try again though. Should probably be 3.5 stars, with potential to go to 4.

Friendly staff. Food good and lots of it. Reasonably priced. A pleasant place to meet for lunch and/or drinks.

Not my favourite bar in Morningside however I do go in from time to time, good range of beers (cask, key and bottle) and reasonably priced bar food - big screens if you like watching sport!

New food menu is great with lots of choice. The brisket beef loaded fries taste great as does the fried chicken sandwich. Others tried the steak fajitas and the steak ciabatta & those too got rave reviews. Can't wait to try the other items on the menu. We have been coming to The Waiting Room for quite some time now and have never left disappointed. Sebastian and his team always look after you and make you feel so welcome. Great food, great service great atmosphere!!

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and sampled the new menu. Wow! Its amazing! The loaded fries were yummy and the steak fahitas were fantastic. The menu was always varied but the new menu is definitely a step up! As usual the experience was second to none and Sebastian provided his usual attentive service. My wine was delicious and my mother in law always says the hot chocolate is delicious. All in all, the Waiting Room has improved in ways I didn't think was possible! Well done to all!

popped in for a cold one, guy behind the bar had his back to me, (clearly didn’t see me) walked towards I think the office...girl who did see me went the same way, random at the bar said” they’ll be right back, this always happens”.....waited a bit, then a wee bit longer and then exited.....a simple wee “be right with you” would have been nice.....tad disappointed !!

Saturday night, Scottish Cup Final & Rugby cup final. Arrived 8pm. I can only describe the place as a mess. 1 (not so good barman) serving. One of the busiest days possible & 1 guy serving, 1 guy, poorly clearing glasses & i saw someone talking to the 'boss' at the office. Empty glasses everywhere, poor service & actually, the whole place looked & smelled like it needed a deep clean. I have drunk in here since before it was the waiting room, previously The Belhaven & so disappointed to see how it is now

Fui un sábado por la tarde para reunirme con amigos en una cena temprana. No tenía ideas preconcebidas como fue la primera visita y. . . Me sorprendió muy gratamente. El lugar en sí está bien establecido con áreas separadas para comer y bar. El espacio era tranquilo, relajante y no demasiado ruidoso a pesar de estar razonablemente ocupado, por lo que era fácil conversar. El personal fue muy amigable y servicial. La comida estaba por encima de lo que yo asociaría con "pub grub". Todos escogieron platos diferentes y todos estábamos ansiosos por probar el otro, ya que todo era tan bueno y sabroso. . . Especialmente la mía, el pastel de carne. El postre también fue un éxito, con un poco más: la tarta de tatuajes. Tienen un menú de cócteles corto pero bien pensado también. ¡Felizmente volvería!

Smashing chance for for adults and one younger Adult, student to part take a lovely leasurely Brunch, with tried and tested selections from French Toast, scrambled eggs and back, full Scottish Breakfast and Eggs Benedict. Nice refill coffee with the Scottish Breakfast. Really enjoyed my breakfast and who crew enjoyed meal.

Almorcé aquí hace una semana con un amigo mío. . . y un perro! Realmente son amables con los perros - algunos lugares dicen que sí, pero no son tan amables con los perros. A mi perro se le ofreció de inmediato un recipiente con agua y luego le trajeron una galleta para perro también. ¡Pero yo divago! Esta fue mi primera visita a la sala de espera (mi amigo también) y definitivamente lo recomendaría. Es agradable y espacioso, por lo que no se siente demasiado lleno, incluso si está ocupado. El menú es bastante amplio, con muchas buenas opciones para todos los gustos y gustos. El personal es amable y sonriente pero no agobiante. Tuve la lubina y fue excelente. Me hubiera gustado un poco más de verduras en el plato, pero eso es solo una cosa menor. De lo contrario, buena comida, buen personal, buena relación calidad-precio.

Been to the Waiting Room several times and every time it's been very nice. The soup is always lovely, was sweet potato and squash this time. Followed by a chicken and bacon sandwich. Whilst the wife had a chicken goujon wrap. Good food and reasonable prices. Definitely worth a visit

We arrived to a nicely decorated spacious table for 12 but only 11 place settings, first dispute over the 12th setting, restaurant staff checked their diary to confirm I had booked 12 places. Not a good start. The service was slow. We arrived at 12.30 pm and we waited 45 minutes per course and we had to prompt a few times to get our sweet so we could get back to the office. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meal the food was good. There was no Christmas back ground atmosphere, no festive background music but a massive TV with football on but nobody watching it except every time I looked at it there were animal cruelty appeals on which is horrible when trying to eat - turn it off for Christmas customers and get some festive tunes on.

Christmas had certainly arrived at The Waiting Room 🎄😀🎄 Beer for dogs?! Yes please! We just stopped in for a coffee this morning though and, as always, great service, lovely coffee and plenty of space for dogs and people 😀

We had lunch here on Sunday early December. The food here before has been good. This time our portions were tiny. For £10.50 I recieved a "pie" that consisted of 5 pieces of steak and a pastry lid, a few chips and beans. It was tasty but nothing to it. My friend had fish and chips. Similarly it was tiny and the fish was cold. The chef told us tough luck on the portion size and microwaved the fish, including the lemon. We found the staff to be rude and would not return unless this bar changes.

Visited here for tea after a trip with friends to the Dominion cinema. Menu is varied, with good choices for all kinds of appetites. Food was lovely, service was really good - the staff were all dressed up for Halloween which was very entertaining. Highly recommend

First time here. Staff friendly cant do enough for you. Food was excellent home cooked. Great menu selection. Reasonable prices. Couldn't fault it. We will be back with grandchildren. Sorry its not open on Christmas day. Could be a great place to celebrate Xmas day with family.

I spent a fantastic evening in the waiting room during my last visit to Edinburgh... food was excellent and nice beers... highly recommended.

Gran tarde el almuerzo y la cena con mi marido y mi hija. Mi marido quería ver fútbol tan perfecto.

Tomamos unas copas aquí el sábado por la noche. Menú de cócteles agradable. El personal era amable. La única razón por la que nunca le dio una calificación excelente es porque tienes que ir a través de la suspensión de humo de los fumadores parado en la puerta de entrada.

This is the second time we have been here and the food has been spot on. Service was great too. Will definitely return.

Estado aquí dos veces y en ambas ocasiones, la comida era horrible, el servicio no era la mejor, les dijo que nunca tocó la comida y ni siquiera una disculpa por cómo la basura que era, pero me dieron £1 sí £1 de mi cuenta. No será volver y no lo recomiendo, especialmente con otras buenas opciones tan cerca.

We only lived about 100 yards from this establishment which makes it even more handy. The service is very good and the menu is good pub food. Portions are generous and the food is well cooked and well presented. We will back again.

We called in for a drink in the afternoon and it was fairly quiet. It is a nice clean place and the toilets are good. Service ok. We came back in the early evening and had nachos which were good.

My wife and I visited The Waiting Room primarily because they allowed our cocker spaniel in. The food was very good with a good choice. Very friendly staff.

I used to be a frequent visitor to the waiting room and after months being away I thought it I would give the place another bash. It was a terrible choice I made. The gent playing guitar, although good, the music was as loud as a jet. You couldn’t get towards the bar through the mingling of staff who had clocked off shift for the night and seamingly getting on it. The staff actually ‘working’ were only interested in serving their friends and regulars. It is sad as the new management have clearly let their staff to whatever they fancy and are running the place down to the ground. Safe to say we shall be going to the hermitage across the road in future. You get table service and are treated with genuine care and attention

Food was vile on a particularly unbusy day. The whisky sauce for the haggis bon bons was cold and the whisky hadn’t been cooked off. The mushroom tarte tatin was cold and flavourless. The side salad appeared undressed but was surprisingly edible in light of...

Well what can I say apart from AMAZING! My family have been going to the Waiting Room for many many years and it has never failed to disappoint. The food is fantastic and I've eaten in many high end restaurants who couldn't come close to the standard of the Waiting Room! The menu has recently changed and it has only made it better which is hard to believe as its previous menu was superb! Sebastian the Manager is so welcoming and certainly knows how to run an excellent team. He is so friendly and always makes an effort to speak to everyone. Milda is a very hard worker and so friendly too. All in all every member of staff is excellent all in their own way. It certainly is a second home and will always be close to my heart. My Dad loved this place and I certainly do too! Well done Sebastian!!
