Really enjoyed the amazing cocktails, lunch and friendly bar service. Booking essential but just a great experience.

The worst service I have ever experienced, We were booked in and stood waiting for 20mins no one came to see us , there was one person serving and one person cleaning , after 20 minutes the guy cleaning came to serve us but it was too little too Late we decided to walk out .

Well let’s start Ordered a drink and a bottle of fizzy water Drink and bottle of still water Ordered another bottle of fizzy water Same again bottle of still water majito ok but not much alcohol in it !! Ordered 2 starters oh they are lovely one of my favourites the waitress said. So Sorry not available Try again Managed to get starters. Dumplings Warm not hot at all shredded duck not much on the plate for 6 pancakes but very nice sauce. Mains Waited 20 min and asked if they had been ordered ? Yes we are just really busy 3 pm holiday Friday you think !!! Manager came over and apologised for delay and said they would give a discount off mains. Another 10 min till they were delivered and chicken wrap nice and warm my steak sandwich could have bounced off a wall. Total bill 72.00 with a discount off main 7.85 added for service charge Nope sorry not for that level of service. Disappointed to say the least

We went for dinner and drinks on our last night and it was an amazing experience. Definitely worth the hype! Food was gorgeous. Service was good and staff were very friendly. A lovely place.

Overpriced, not much atmosphere, not great service (not bad tho), been twice now, same same. Not table service for drinks but do that thing where a tip is 'asked for' when you're about to tap.. frustrating, ended up paying a £1 tip onto 1 drink...(My choice, my fault)

Decided to try here as was recommended. OK, the dance music on a Saturday was to my taste, fabulous! On to the cocktails. I would say 7 out of 10. Bloody Mary was lacking somewhat, served in a half pint glass. Hmmmm. I have definitely tasted much better. The other 2 cocktails were average. The best part was the bar staffs banter. Chucking items around behind the bar to catch which they did! Impressive. Bit over rated for me tbh.

If you want to sit at one of the many tables at this larger establishment apparently you have to book in advance - there are no notices anywhere telling you this as you enter. We arrived around 10:30pm and the place was moderately busy. We found a vacant table amongst half a dozen that were empty. I went to the bar while my wife settled at the smaller two person table. While i was waiting for a long time to get served (because the bar keeps do a dance making cocktails - which can be entertaining) my wife came to the bar as she was kicked off the vacant table by one of the servers. Apparently if you have not booked you are allowed in but you will be standing near the bar only. The whole experience was unnecessary as no one else was booked at those tables - there are hundreds of bars in Edinburgh - this is not one i would recommend.

Hannah was our server and went above and beyond in taking care of us, she even wrote us a list of recommendations of where to visit and her favourite places and they were amazing.The drinks here are nothing we have tried before and are a interactive experience very unique and we will be back again!! The guy making the cocktails also 10/10 they were amazing thank you !!

I have been to the Alchemist in previous occasions just for drinks. This time I decided to go with a friend for dinner and I certainly left disappointed. We ordered the food (a main dish and a side dish). They completely forgot about the side order "truffle tater tots". Then they asked me if I still wanted it. I was really hungry so I said yes. However, if I would have known I would have said no. They tater tots really look and tasted like the ones you buy in the frozen section of any cheap supermarket. Nothing special. Just a dash of some kind of creamy garlic sauce. We decided to have a cocktail at the end. The cocktail had cream at the top but the waiter didn't even give us some spoons! How are you supposed to eat all that cream? Licking? Just the cherry on top after that they told us we basically needed to leave soon. I understand you shouldn't stay at a restaurant for 3 hours. But we had booked our table in advance and we were still eating, ( perhaps it had been 1 hour?) actually now that I remember the waiter came to take my plate when I still had a piece of food in my fork! Not impressed by service and certainly won't be back any time soon. Plenty of other nice places in Edinburgh that care more about the customers' experience.

First time we've been and all brilliant reviews on their Facebook page so had high hopes. Booked for our wedding anniversary and looked forward to it but sadly disappointed. Nobody to greet people so we ended up walking most of the way round to find someone for our table. The girl was brilliant to her credit. Cocktails expensive for what you get, very limited selection of juice. Food was brought quick,tasted nice but average. We had a starter and main each but didn't get asked if we wanted pudding or anything else. Our waiter was fawning over a freshly seated table but wouldn't even look in our direction. Tried a couple of times to get someone's attention for desert menu but it was a pointless exercise. Large group of staff huddled together at one point and numerous staff stood hugging and talking to what appeared to be friends. Ive no problem with them hugging a friend at all but when there are people trying to get your attention and getting ignored to the point you just give up and get the bill its a bit rude. Very disappointed is putting it lightly. The only saving grace is the girl that showed us to the table and the man that brought our drink, both were lovely. We definitely won't be back or recommend to friends and family.

The food was excellent. Friendly staff. However, my mum ordered a cocktail twice, which she did not get. Instead, she got a recommendation from our waiter. Which was nice, but it would have been great to just receive what you ordered. The cocktails were nicely presented and tasted good. Overall good experience.

Start with positive, the food was good and well presented. Negatives though, service was terrible. Seated for 30 mins before order taken, serving staff seemed to not have a clue, dishes arrived at different times so when we got my daughters food everyone else was done. We saw one plate taken to another table in error and server just returned it to the pass where it sat for 10 more mins until the manager gave it to a guy sitting at the bar area right next to it. Kitchen staff unorganised with dishes going out to tables at different times. Pretty poor. Manager gave us 15%off and refunded 2 of the meals. For the price, I expected better. But again, food was good and for a one off treat it was fine but wouldn't rush back.

We recently visited for afternoon drinks. The bar was extremely busy and understaffed. One member of bar staff wearing a cap was very helpful and working his socks off the other staff were not very attentive and happy to stand around watching the queues building at the bar. We felt the cocktails were being thrown together so opted for some champagne instead! Nice atmosphere and loved the music and bar itself.

Extremely late service, waited almost an hour until we were asked for our order, had to remind a member of staff that we were still infact waiting. Food was incredible, online menu however is unclear on the difference between mocktails and cocktails.

Was looking forward to a trip here but just really disappointed. Food was ok but comparatively expensive and the service was even more disappointing.

Visited today, the food was tasty, espicially the salt and chilli chips, but I had a hot honey chicken burger but no taste of hot honey at all, maybe they forgot to add it? Plus the bottom of burger bun was rock solid. My partner had the hake and chips, said it was lovely, just not a very big portion for the £17 it was. Not a great selection of soft drinks, probably wouldn't return due to not very good value for money.

Majid provided excellent service at the restaurant, especially with desserts and coffee. His friendly approach and attention to detail made our dessert and coffee experience delightful. Big thanks for making it special!

Warmly welcomed by Habib who knew all the dishes/deserts and very polite. I had apple crumble with custard and an americano coffee - Very good and generous with the custard. My wife had ice cream and enjoyed it.

I visited the place yesterday to surprise my pal for her birthday. Fantastic desserts with lightning-fast service. The location is tidy and beautiful. I wholeheartedly endorse this to everyone.

Wir waren gestern hier, weil wir noch Lust auf ein Dessert hatten, es gibt eine grosse Auswahl und hat bestimmt für jeden etwas dabei. Die Mitarbeiter waren alle sehr freundlich. Der Cheesecake war sehr lecker. Bis zu einem nächsten Mal!

We booked for a birthday desert on Saturday at 3pm with high expectations. We arrived 10 mins early and after a short wait we were seated. The music was awful, techo banging out at about 180bpm. It felt deliberate so that we would eat quickly and leave. The same song was on our entire visit. One of our party made there own dish, using the option to select what you want. £2.20 for oreo crumb, check out the amount - it's not even a single oreo biscuit! Once the first of our party finished eating, staff started to appear asking if we wanted anything else (hint hint). We had three separate staff members appear asking. We eventually just asked for the bill and left before my son had finished. We then got an email from the chain saying we hadn't turned up and that they would be reviewing their next steps due to their no show policy! I won't be back. What a joke.

The place itself is quite brightly lit and feels just slightly disorganised with some fake flowers imitating some fake instagrammable experience we should be having. It feels very Arabic, almost UAE which is neither a +ive or -ive, just an observation. We had brunch here. The menu is really extensive and sounds delicious. They seem to focus on sweets rather than savoury, I had the hash browns and eggs with spicy hollandaise on the side and a cortado. My wife had the chicken and avo toasty and a pot of tea. The service was ok, but very young and inexperienced looking. The items on menu sound tasty but what we received was quite far removed. My dish had half a toasted brioche bun bottom, stacked with over-cooked thin slices of hash brown and fried egg and a scattering of salad leaves, some quite badly wilted. The eggs were over-cooked too. However, the spiced hollandaise was delicious. My wife's toasty was half filled with a morsel of chicken. The avocado paste was disgusting, it almost looked granulated, like it was pasteurised and squeezed out of a tube, cut with a huge amount of lemon. The sharpness and texture was all wrong. Nobody came back to ask how the meal was. The cortado was good, well made. The desserts looked good but we never tried any. The prices seem fair, almost cheap until the food arrives and then you can see why. The eggs and hash were just under £12, the brunch coming to around £28, which sounds reasonable but the quality just wasn't there to justify it. Looking at the pictures, I can see some other people received some better looking toasty and hash, so I presume it was an off day. Overall, this experience wasn't great, more style over substance.

Second visit here, and even more impressed than the first. We had the biscoff French toast with two milk chocolate shooters, a smores milkshake, and a caramel latte. Everything was super yummy - French toast literally melted in the mouth. £10 for French toast (which was a very generous portion as well), great price if you ask me! The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. The decor was pristine, chic, and it was lovely and warm inside, which was a relief for a cold winters day. Will definitely be back to try more sweet options!

My boyfriend and I went over there for a date. We were waiting in the queue for quite long time to get just a table for 2. People were waiting behind as to get a table as well. They prioritise them as they were a big table before us, even that we were waiting longer and no one came to us to explain that at the moment they didn't have a table for 2. The blond girl with the piercing on the nose and the manager were quite rude to us, even that we are regular guests and we always like to have desserts in this place. We are definitely not coming back! Avoid this place.

My fav brunch and dessert spot. Best brunch, mocktails, floats and desserts. Atmosphere and service is always amazing in here.

Este sitio si no eres de la cuidad te tratan fatal, el primer día nos pusieron en una mesa sucia y tardaron más de 20 minutos en atendrernos, atendiendo a otra gente que vino mucho después de nosotros. Pese a lo sucedido, al siguiente día decidimos darle una segunda oportunidad, estuvimos haciendo cola 45 minutos aproximadamente y nos dijeron que si no tenías reserva no podías entrar. Habiendo dejado entrar mucho antes a personas haciendo la misma cola que nosotros sin tener ninguna reserva. Vergonzoso. No vuelvo nunca más, lástima por la comida por la comida que está buena, pero el servicio 0

Food was nice enough , service was stuffy and unfriendly sadly ( the female Manager was so snooty and unwelcoming !)and prices pretty steep ! Shame as it could be a great place .

This wasn't a good experience. We ordered 1 Eggs Benedict and 1 Avacado with Poached Eggs. They asked if we would like runny yolks or hard yolks. Both of us asked for runny yolks but the whites cooked. Both dishes came and the whites were not cooked and runny. We sent them back and shortly afterwards we were served hard poached eggs with next to no hollandaise sauce. Im not really sure what the bacon was that was served with my eggs but it did not look or taste like bacon and had a strange texture. We also ordered a pot of tea for 2 The pot was large enough for 2 people but only had 1 teabag in it so it was like drinking coloured water. We complained again both about the tea and dishes. We were told we should have asked for another tea bag and that they serve 1 bag between 2 people but would have given us another bag on request. As for the dishes they knocked of the service charge and they offered us some complimentary strawberries which we declined. Seeing as poached eggs are one of the first things chefs are taught to do and is a basic skill perhaps they shouldnt have them on the menu if they cant get them right. I probably wont be back and if I ever do return I wont be ordering savoury I will order sweet which they are better known for.

We had dessert named high on hazelnuts and spiced chai.. the dessert was heavenly especially the cookie dough so hot fresh and flavorsome.. must visit once atleast. The chai is flavoured only cinnamon so won't go for it again.

Great desserts, nice place to come to after a meal elsewhere too.

Amazing food, we ordered a waffle and French toast, and it was delicious. The stuff is so nice and friendly. They made our visit like whole experience.The coffee was one of the best that I have tried recently. And the Christmas decoration made us feel so festive.

Endroit sympa pour s'offrir une pause gourmande pendant son shopping! Grand choix de gaufres, pancakes, millshakes et cafés. Logé dans le centre commercial, pratique mais je conseille de réserver sa table si pendant le week-end. Nous avons pris a pancakes pistache et les gaufres vegan. Nombreuses options vegan pour les desserts ainsi que Laits végétaux disponibles pour les cafés. L'endroit est très joli et le personnel très souriant et sympa!

Really nice place, so much choice for drinks and desserts. Took a while for the food and drinks to arrive despite it being quite quiet but when it did arrive it was lovely. Would recommend balancing the intense sweetness of the drinks with something savoury. The sticky toffee coffe was lovely but the cream to coffee ratio was a bit too sickly for me. The marvelous melt sandwich was lovely with a nice hint of spice

Don’t bother with booking or reserving a table, they keep the reservation open although they are full and still taking in walk-in. So booked or not, you’ll wait the same, especially in a busy weekend. Service once you are in is also bad. Food is good though, but I won’t come for the good food and the bad service.

Waitresses lovely and food was amazing 10/10 would recommend. So affordable.

Staff were lovely. Savory food was truly awful - my club sandwich was missing 2 of 4 components, REALLY stingy with the chicken, though the bread was nice and crisp. There was a 10 min delay at least between my companion getting their food and mine arriving...and it wasn't because they were making sure it was perfect that is for sure...Pancakes tasted of bicarb. soda. Beef rashers inedible. Also expensive as hell for what you get. Desserts are clearly the way to go here.

Got allocated to a corner table at the window and given menus. 15 minutes later we left as nobody came to take our order, despite attending to customers in our area for payment, then clearance of tables. Poorly organised.

Very good selection of deserts and exceptional milk shakes. The strawberry shake is amazing as is Ferrero Richer, the pancakes truly great.

Worst cheesecake ever and my partners crumble was awful too, low grade ingredients used . It’s surely not hard to use higher quality produce considering the price they charge . Will never be back

This is my new favorite restaurant! The food was delicious, the drink was good and the staff was super friendly! I love the interior design and the vibe of the restaurant. they have plenty of options for drinks, savory and sweet breakfast and little extras like strawberries with chocolate to dip. Definitely recommend going there.

Sponty visit and had the waffles, apple crumble and iced Spanish Latte. The waffles were amazing. The Spanish latte would’ve been better though. All in all good :)

I'm not sure why the place has this high rating as we had a disappointing experience both with the food and with the service. We had the avo perfect day which was one of the blandest avocado toasts we ever had. The eggs were not poached, they had a weird texture, they were not runny at all. The strawberry velvet French toast was incredibly dry and it felt like eating cardboard. The mocktails were OK. The staff didn't really pay attention to the guests, we had to call them to change the cutlery for the dessert. We waited a long time for the check even though the place was not that full, we had to ask twice for it as the first worker forgot to bring it.

Such an amazing experience from the whole team of Haute Dolci at St James Quarters. The service was good and they always made sure me and my friend got the best experience throughout the time we spent there.

The pictures of this place had drawn us in. Although I was going in a little skeptical because I thought it might be like the many dessert restaurants I’ve been to which have been disappointing. However I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It’s pristine clean and immaculate. The service is on point. We didn’t have to wait long for our order and the servers were professional. The menu is great. Lots to choose from. You’ve got your usuals like pancakes, crepes, cookie dough, waffles but they also do a variety of other desserts that are more unique. They also seem update their menu which is good to see that they are keeping things fresh. They also do a whole brunch menu which looks awesome. We got a couple of milkshakes to start with which were excellent! Best milkshake I’ve had in a while. After, my wife got the eggsplosion which is a chocolate egg with brownie inside and you get to melt the egg with hot chocolate. My wife thought this was a little sickly and couldn’t quite finish it. Thankfully I was there to save the day. I got the locus biscoff croffle but they didn’t have any croffles left so I had it with Belgian waffles instead. This dessert was very nice! Much tastier than I thought it would be. We were in and out the restaurant within 25 mins, quick and tasty! We did find that it was very expensive for what it was. The bill came to over £40 which is crazy considering we only got a couple of drinks and desserts. I am quite confident in saying that this is the best dessert restaurant I’ve been to in Edinburgh. I’d like to come back to try the brunch menu but be prepared for a hefty bill.

I was there yesterday celebrating my sister's birthday, left a note on my booking to say that I'll need help lighting up candles for my sister's cake (I brought my own candles). They light the candles up for me but on top of that, they came with a surprise brithday dish and sang her a birthday song too! My sister was embarassed but we both loved it!! Excellent service. Special thanks to the two girls who served us, you made her night! The desserts were good too, we had a Ferrero Cheesecake and a Passion Fruit Sorbet, absolutely worth the price!

Waiter was very good, quite fast. Some of the potions were a little small for the price though.

BELOW AVERAGE! Simple microwave apple pie and custard, overpriced 40 quid 2 desserts and 2 coffees- sticky toffee pudding came with no sauce, dry as a nuns. All fur coat and no knickers. Avoid as place is sheer profit over product. Usual from the Asian mob

Gorgeous cafe great food and drink and lovely waitresses

Really upmarket place with not too extravagant prices. Nice and bright with a good breeze in the summer. Food is good for breakfast with waffles being my favourite. Everyone is friendly and fairly competent. We've had a few items missed before but they're always quick to correct and the complimentary chocolate strawberrys are nice. For those tea officionados TWG tea is the chosen one and it's devine but for those cold drinkers, amazing milkshakes and fruit juices are available. Nice wee quiet place that's good for both families or couples. My order is: an offer she can't refuse(Belgian waffles with milk chocolate sauce and strawberrys) with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and a pot of English breakfast tea.

Fab food, fab service. A little bit on the expensive side but it is worth it! Have been here twice already with my daughter and looking forward to coming back.

My server Lucy was lovely and helpful when I came in. My white choc and raspberry chocolate shot and raspberry macaron were a perfect end to my night and were absolutely delicious! Overall, my night was perfect and I can’t wait to come back and enjoy more desserts!😋😋

Been here a couple of times. The food is great however the staff are very slow. Asked for drinks and ended up getting them quite late - right after finishing eating. Service charge is pointless if the service isnt amazing.

Service and quality of cakes reminds me of the best cake and chai shops of Riyadh or Dubai. Diligent, caring and perfectly executed.

Visited here last night around 8pm for desserts and we were not disappointed. Welcomed with a lovely smile and taken to the window seat which was wonderful at night. We ordered a normal hot chocolate and a white hot chocolate, strawberry cheesecake and lotus milk cake. All presented beautifully and tasted great. The atmosphere is lovely, very clean and well decorated. Staff and service is good. We will return for sure.

My family and I were welcomed at Haute Dolci by a beautiful smile a warm welcome. We were asked about allergies and of as usual I said I had too many and was used to only ever watching whilst my family enjoyed. I was gently encouraged to share my allergies whilst notes were being taken. To my surprise I was able to eat quite a fare amount from the V/GF menu. I was so excited and awaited patiently whilst my treat was being prepared. When my treat arrived, it took me a moment to process that I was actually going to sit with my family for the first time in 20 years and actually enjoy a treat. I had pancakes, chocolate sauce, banana and ice cream and didn't get tummy ache. We actually returned the following day for yet another treat. The staff were amazing, kind and sincere. The prices are considerably fair for the exquisite food that's served. From the staff, the stunning decor and the exquisite food, this place is a MUST visit.

Decided to go here with a large group of family late at night was nice relaxed place and friendly fast service was great all the desserts came same time. So no long wait great street views also of Edinburgh

Poor service, dirty glasses, tacky table decorations with chocolate stains, dirty toilets which are hardly functioning…..very disappointed, room for improvement.

Lovely decor and food! Ordered the Nutella crepe, Belgian waffles with Jasmine tea and Spanish Latte Seated by the window, highly recommend if you can as the views of the streets add to the ambiance. Service was a tad slow besides that servers were kind.

Booked in here for a lunch time treat whilst in Edinburgh. The choice of savoury dishes is limited but this is made up by the amount of sweets to follow on. Our food was lovely & we indulged in some cocktails, also lovely. The service was not as attentive as we hoped but generally just okay, although it could be better. Definitely worth a visit as a one off, just bare in mind it's quite expensive for what it is.

A very bouje placed aimed at the Instagram and tic tok crowd . Slow service , salt beef fried egg was awful , bought in thin strips of salt beef ( as thin as parmaham ) , spicy hollandaise wasn't spicy and was clearly bought in pre made , fried egg was like rubber ( was expecting a gooey runny yolk ) .. hash browns again clearly bought in and soggy . Scrambled eggs were rubbery too .. desserts when they finally arrived were just as bad . Way over priced and the servers seemed to favour other customers more. Won't be returning.

Definitely got tricked in by Google maps ratings. The only positive is the atmosphere which is light and airy, if you're not bothered by the plastic flowers. Ordered Saint Sebastian cheese cake, got a vanilla cheese cake without at base...or worse got a stale slice as this is definitely not the texture which you'd be claiming for offering Saint Sebastian on your menu. Second item to avoid is the Brussels waffles, which are supposed to be airy light and crispy, here they just use the same batter as pancakes..as long as you're not expecting the real deal you shall be fine.

It was a sweet fix that satiated. When you add sweet custard to a sweet dark chocolate cake drizzled with warm chocolate, it was merciful to have two halves of a strawberry acting as the buffer. We sat next to a large window overlooking the square below and it was the atmosphere that won me over at 9pm where most people would be either going for drinkies or home.
