On a rainy day in the western Highlands near the town of Glenelg, we happened upon this lovely little place. We’d been visiting the nearby stunning Broch on the grassy rise and decided to stop in for a coffee and cake. We were ushered in to this quaint little wagon, plenty of room for the two of us to warm up by the fire. The lovely ladies serving us made two delicious hot coffees and we decided to have a piece of fruit cake and courgette cake. The cakes were home made and both scrumptious, the conversation was pleasant and interesting. I imagine that on a clear day it would be lovely to sit out in the garden.

When you can find this place open (random days and hours) be sure to get there early as there is very limited indoor seating. If you have to stand outside under the trees you will be eaten alive by the bugs. The coffee is probably the worst in the area. Way Out West is Way Better

We walked up Glen Beag from Glenelg and we're pleasantly surprised to find the Wagon Cafe open (on a mid-week, mid-October day)...we sat outside and had great tea, coffee and cake (alas for others, the last bit of cake). Great setting in a very rural area and we weren't really expecting it to be open. There was also a covered yurt to sit under and space inside the wagon (with woodburner on). Had a look round and they also offer salads from their polytunnels including edible flowers (also served at Glenelg Inn). For me this kind of place is the best there is - an understated gem with eco-credentials and a billion miles away from a Costa...keep it up

After reading the reviews on this place we decided to pay a visit and really had high hopes for it. One review spoke of the "Cosy wagon with wood burning fire" so stumbling upon this "cafe" on a cold, wet morning we anticipated warming up with great coffee and cake. Unfortunately we stood at the bottom of the wagon steps and were asked what we wanted from the woman inside. Without knowing all that was available- no menu offered or list visible - we hastily plucked a mocha coffee and an Americano coffee out of the air. We were offered a choice of two cakes (couldn't see them, just told what was available) so opted to share a rhubarb and ginger cake. I then asked, "where shall we sit?" hoping to be shown into this "cosy wagon" but we were waved in the direction of the yurt. Upon reflection this may have been because we had a small dog with us but the staff had their own dog wandering around the place (?) Anyway we sat and shivered, waiting for our order. The dog came and bared its teeth at our 15 month old pup - who doesn't have a nasty bone in its body - and we were soon brought our refreshments with an accompanying "you have to pay for it now". Not a problem; I duly dug out the right change for them and in an effort to make conversation asked whether it was true that they grow and sell organic vegetables (as we were staying in self catering accommodation nearby and would have been interested to purchase some). "We have salad", was the response - no offer to see it and no further conversation- so that killed that particular potential commercial transaction dead. To be fair, I have to say that I really enjoyed the home made organic cake - it was lovely. My mocha coffee was just ok and my husband was given no milk with his coffee and by this time couldn't be bothered to ask or finish it. By this time he had our dog was on his knee as the baring-teeth collie kept returning to keep him in check and he was unnerved by him. That was it. Our experience of the Wagon Cafe which we had high hopes for.

After a wander round Dun Troddan Broch we popped along to this place, not expecting much to be honest. However, we were genuinely surprised to find this quirky little place set in a large garden area, outside the titular wagon. You could sit, communal style, at the long table which, luckily, we had the weather for when we visited, or shelter in the yurt. But there's something special about relaxing in the open air in such a historic area. The coffee was excellent and far exceeded expectation, based on experience of supposedly more civilised coffee places. Cakes were lovely, and the guy serving was really friendly. If you're at the brochs, pop along. You won't be disappointed.

On a very wet afternoon we happened on a gem of a cafe. The cosy wagon with wonderful wood burning stove was matched with great tea and the best fruit cake ever. Just a delight. Make the effort to try it even though it is quite a long drive.

We visited the wagon cafe after being to the Brochs. We were amazed by the beautiful wooden house with its garden roof and the caravan where the coffee and tea is made. The cafe was manned by two young people who were WWOOFing (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms). We had great coffee and lovely home baking in a relaxed outdoor environment.

Great little café. Home baked cake and top quality tea and coffee in very unusual surroundings. Open air when the sun shines, in a yurt or the brilliantly restored wagon if it is wet. We have tried and enjoyed all three.

We walked up the valley to visit the Brochs from GLENELG and came across the wagon cafe and what a surprise we had. We sat there in the sunshine at the big table in the garden and enjoyed a mix of drinks and home bakes. A very enjoyable morning break before we walked back to the village. You will no be disappointed if you are in the area.

A welcome coffee break in the back of beyond, if you are visiting the Brochs. Friendly owner, offered various herbal teas and drinks. Lovely to sit out on a sunny day and admire the views and the peace and quiet. Loved the nearby house's turf roof, but they had rain cover as well! A delightful, unexpected find.

Brilliant coffee. Really cozy and friendly. I prefer the old caravan to the yurt, but both good. Cakes really good, sadly this year they had sold out when we were there. The very best when finishing off a climb of Ben Sgritheall the back (less steep) way.

What could be better than sitting in a beautiful valley sipping exceptionally good coffee and enjoying a perfectly baked cake? The Wagon Cafe is, without doubt, a must-visit if you find yourself anywhere nearby. The coffees are made by someone who really knows her stuff, the cakes (and i've tried a number of them) really are fantastic and the area nearby is utterly stunning. The farm also has excellent crafts for sale, fresh vegetables and great tips for nearby walks and places to visit. I'll certainly be going back!

Ok, I am a coffee nut, I drive my family mostly mad moaning when the milk isn't foamed just so. I read indie coffee house reviews in London for where to spend my pennies. Did I expect coffee to rival any of them in Scotland, probably a few, north of Glasgow and Edinburgh, probably not, Glenelg no chance. Wrong, in this little jewel, a sort of homestead, is a cafe with charming outdoor tables and a yurt for the wet days, a range of home grown (it looked to me, as if in the manner of picking a lobster from a tank, you could actually point out your still growing lettuce and say I'll have that one) salads and terrific home baked cakes. No ifs no buts a truly excellent cafe, I can't understand why there isn't a queue, just because it's a few miles from anywhere doesn't seem to be a reason not to go its great. Not many cafes have a free castle or tower to visit across the road either, a flat out excellent and memorable place to go. Lovely staff too.

We visited this small cafe when visiting the impressive broch ruins at Glenelg : it's just across the road. Menu is limited (we just had tea and cakes) but what there is, is good, and the owners are helpful and friendly. The whole place has a "hippy" feel to it, with a yurt and a tented display of local crafts, as well as a small caravan and support to cycle riders. Well worth dropping in if you are in the area.

Won't be back the owner is so rude . If you pay for drinks in a pub hotel . You expect a thank you. Total anti children our three year old was chatting and we Heard the owners rude comment about him . Also we took her seat . The poor lass who runs hand and foot for this person is so friendly it's the only reason we stayed so long . Won't be back and won't recommend to any of our family and friends that visit the port . Maybe someone will take over the Caledonian and make it a hotel and pub again . We have been visiting the port for 40 years and haven't experienced the unfriendly signal we got from the castle hotel .
