The High St Merchants in Highland

We were in Aviemore for a few days and visited Grantown. As I always like a nice coffee, I had seen this advertised. We had good coffees, I had a scone and my husband had a lemon and cream doughnut which he said was delicious. Very friendly and also very clean.

Popped in for lunch and we were not disappointed. Very tasty Thai sweet potato soup with cheese scones. We followed this up with a fruit and white chocolate muffin (shared). All of it delicious. The staff were incredibly friendly. We will be back.

In a split-second decision to escape the rain, my partner and I ended up in this cosy cafe for lunch. What a lucky choice! The hot chocolate was outstanding, accompanied by the delicious Thai-spiced cauliflower soup for my partner and the super savoury goat's cheese and black pudding bagel for me. Looking forward to the next opportunity to visit!

Lovely place! We went in for coffee, which were delicious and quality. The fire was on and the place was homely cozy vibes. Staff were friendly and attentive. They've also got local wee business products which we love to see. Definitely recommend!

This is the coziest, most atmospheric cafe i have ever experienced, and the food selection is of an excellent quality and range. I went in for coffee and cake. But the menu was so tempting i then had the mushroom and truffle oil soup - well presented and amazing flavour. The day was wet and cold. The fire heater was welcoming and nicely warm. The added bonus is excellent local art covering the walls. All for sale. Staff very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

Incredibly passionate and friendly staff. Did their best to work around an allergy. The soup I had was incredible and the bagels were faultless. Had a dog in tow, so sat their wee courtyard which was so peaceful.

Had a lovely lunch here today, with plenty of gluten free options, which was great. Food was really excellent, delicious and fresh. Staff were welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was very cosy and relaxing. Spotlessly clean. So glad we decided to stop by and will definitely visit again when we're in the area. Highly recommend this lovely wee place!

Such a warm and welcoming and cute atmosphere! The food menu is small, however what they offer is scrumptious! I highly recommend the raspberry, white chocolate muffin! My latte and bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon lox were also very yummy. My companions got the chia seed Buddha bowls and absolutely loved them. The owners are so kind and welcoming! Go spend some time at High Street Merchants!

We discovered this little gem a couple of years ago and visit every year Excellent if limited menu, locally sourced fresh food. The bagels were delicious and the risotto was extremely good, we sit outside as we have the dog. Experience improved by lovely sunny weather Would recommend

This is an art gallery as well dining area at back by open fire.. Cafe doesn't do cooked breakfast but do offer bagels with a choice of fillings. I went for Granola natural yoghurt toasted almonds berry and cherry compote.

Today after our hike we found this small, pretty café. There is a super delicious café 😍 (barista machine) and a scones with parmesan, simply delicious, 🥰 come here and try it yourself and the service is very friendly.

Opportunistically stoped off at this local cafe. My husband and I both chose a risotto dish, one was pea and ham; and the other sundried tomatoes , both served with asparagus. We couldn’t fault them. Both commented the best lunch we have had in a long time. Highly recommended.

High Street Merchants is a local gem. The food is incredible, the service is always friendly and inclusive and the added bonus of Al’s insanely delicious pastry creations after a tasty meal makes this place a favourite in our family.

What a find. Traveled from NZ to explore the region and found this gem. The most delicious risotto I've ever had. The chai latte was so good. The blondie slice was heavenly. And it's a beautiful little Cafe surrounded by art by local artists. Definitely stop by the next time you're visiting. Best meal in Scotland.

Great friendly service here with excellent menu choices to suit everyone’s tastes. Blackboard special chicken pancetta and veg pie with mash and mustard sauce in first photo. Cream of mushroom soup with cheese scone in 2nd photo . Our dog loved the garden seating outside and the free doggie biscuits too.

Great lunch in the cafe garden as we have a dog. Seatrout and smoked haddock fishcakes with fied egg special was 1st class and so fresh. Very friendly and fast service.

Excellent meals for our family group of six. Friendly service and helpful explanation of the menu which, whilst limited, was able to accommodate a wide age range and had a good veggie option.

We arrived after the food service had stopped, but were struggling to find anywhere to eat. The staff were so kind and went to the effort to bring us some home made soup. It was wonderful! Not only was the food delicious but the freshly lit fire was cozy! Would recommend

This place is not very well highlighted outside although a board on street it looks derelict from the outside with steamed windows, ( maybe a better window display would invite more people in) however inside is such a nice surprise! Lovely wee cafe down the back with a good selection of cakes! Coffee good however slightly on the pricey side was £4 odd for a latte with syrup. Will return!

Beautiful place to cosy up with tea and a handmade cake. We found this beautiful place thanks to our holiday cottage’s recommendation. It was so cosy to sit by the fire in the back, the owners were delightful and the homemade cakes? That doughnut was the best I’ve ever had. What a treat!

What a wonderful place to eat at , we stopped there on the way to doune side, had the most gorgeous chicken pie, and I must say the best muffin I have ever tasted. It's winter (January) so we know grantown is usually in its off season so a lot of shops have different times and not running full steam (so we weren't expecting much) We came in and it was really quiet, we were told about their limited menu as we sat down so my wife had the 'soup of the day' and I had the chicken pie (the only meal that wasn't soup) I don't know if it was the 4 hour hike we just came back from or if it really was but that was the best chicken pie I have ever tasted in my life. I hope if you're reading this and thinking about going that they have it on the menu when you're there (I imagine it's something different every day but don't quote me on that) My highest recommendation

Very dog unfriendly because “they have artwork”?! Recommend Ryvoan cafe in Aviemore for a more hospitable experience (also an art gallery cafe but no problem with well behaved dogs, funny that!) As others have mentioned they were very rude when asking about the dogs - not dog friendly at all, strongly recommend dog owners avoid.

Had lovely soup with a cheese scone following Friday's funeral. Will certainly visit you again and will recommend the establishment far and wide!

Travelling in Campervan - Came across this lovely cafe by chance - great find. Delicious mushroom & truffle soup with amazing cheese scone! Will plan a stop here next time travelling through.

Phenomenal food served at this quaint little coffee/tea shop. The bagels(chicken special) was 10/10, and the coffee (Italian boldness but very well dialled in) was excellent. Highly recommend their deserts as well which are fresh and it all tastes like real food. In short. Loved it and so did my child.

This coffee was solid. Over the course of my Scotland travels, this coffee was the best I found. Perfect roast and foam, every time. The food was tasty as well, and service was friendly.

This is a place we always look forward to visit on or annual golfing holidays to Grantown, but this year was a letdown, at 11.30 on a damp drizzly morning we walked down to the restaurant, safe in the knowledge we could always sit in the dog friendly garden area sheltered by the overhead canopies, but not this time, no canopies so wasted journey. Next time will only use restaurant weather permitting.

Came across this cute little gem while we were visiting. Everything about this bakery was perfect. We tried their scones, and muffins and were sensational. The coffees were amazing. Will definitely come back if we visit this town.

Wow! A taste sensation! Now, I go to a lot of cafés....you could almost say it's a hobby 😉....but the deliciousness of everything at this wee café is beyond belief!! If I could give an extra 5 stars for food quality, then this place would get them! The coffee is excellent- 'made with love' according to our fabulous server. It shows! The food is exquisite. Quite simply a taste sensation. We had: mushroom soup with truffle oil- the best I've ever had. Dirty Posh baguel - black pudding, goat's cheese, & more, served with kettlechips & very nice coleslaw- utterly delicious. And the cakes!!!!😍 Frangipan blacurrant bakewell and spiced pear & apple loaf. OMG!! The café itself is quite lovely. Cosy and spacious, a real fire for wintertime and a great wee courtyard grden for summer. Comfy sofas, and nice wooden tables. It's got everything! A real gem in our beloved Scottish Highlands ❤️.

Lovely little spot for lunch in Grantown. There's a nice array of artwork from local artists, we bought a great picture for our new home from the gallery. The food and drinks are very tasty and the service was very good.

Lovely small cafe with outdoor seating for dogs. Coffees, teas and cakes for snacks or good lunch menu. Budda Bowls are very tasty and filling, good selection of bagels and fillings. Friendly, helpful staff and lovely owners.

Schönes Restaurant mit leckerem frischen Essen frisch vom freundlicher Besitzer zubereitet. Etwas Kunst und schnick schnak kann man auch kaufen. Und ganz wichtig gutem Kaffee und Cappuccino aus ner ordentlichen Maschine.

We stopped in Grantown for lunch thinking we would get fish and chips, thank goodness we didn’t . This cafe was a gem of a find . Lunch of smoked salmon bagel and halloumi buddha bowl both excellent the buddha bowl had so many tasty parts. Staff were pleasant and enthusiastic.

Went with two good friend for lunch it was really good with a great selection for lunch. The best coffee we have had for a long time.

Welcoming personal and great food on reasonable price. What are you waiting for? Just visit and check yourself. Be aware there may be some wee waiting time as the place is popular for a reason, but it is worth it.

Enjoyed our best cup of coffee in the Highlands. The soup and cheese scones were so tasty we went back another day for more. The cakes were delicious too. The cafe does get busy but the staff are very good at getting people through.

Our experience at High Street Marchants was extremely disappointing. After finding it on Google Maps and being intrigued by the pictures, we decided to give it a try. However, our visit quickly turned sour. Upon arrival, we had to wait for someone to assist us, which was an inconvenience in itself. The staff member we approached was incredibly rude when we inquired about their dog-friendly policy. To our dismay, we were directed to a dismal setup at the back of the bakery, surrounded by bins, with no access to the front of the restaurant except through a dingy alleyway. (the only place we could stay with the dog) To make matters worse, the staff member did not bother to provide us with a menu or any other information. It was a complete lack of customer service and professionalism. Frustrated by the whole experience, we decided to go elsewhere. Based on our visit, I cannot recommend High Street Merchants to anyone.

We always visit this lovely cafe when we are in Grantown on Spey. This time we had an amazing breakfast before hitting the trails. Simple sourdough with avocado, salmon and cream cheese never tasted so good. The perfect pre bike ride breakfast. Great staff and cosy vibe. We popped back later for espresso and that was fab too. Highly recommend 🥑 🥪 ☕

Clean, healthy food that was immaculately prepared. A varied choice of dishes without being overwhelming. A charming and rustic feel with exceptional service - I visited this place only once and already want to go back. While in a somewhat remote location (in the context of the UK); this place has to be experienced.

Little gem in town! This was a cosy warm place to seek shelter to on a Sunday afternoon when back from a long walk round the local lochs! Soup was heavenly, and staff were just amazing. Beautiful cakes and scones too served with hot drinks. Loved the vibe and will be back on our next trip up to Highlands to try more from the menu.

Called in this afternoon, a nice lunch, green tea and my wife had Soup and a latte. Staff their usual cheerful selves. Even received information about new travel documents for Europe.

Came here last summer for lunch in the courtyard. The food was really good and outdoors is dog friendly. However when we came today on a blustery day in February we were very disappointed that we couldn’t bring our dog inside. Obviously too cold for outside and we left. Pity. They need to be clear when advertising dog friendly cafe - on nice days only

We stopped by the High Street Merchants because we needed a cup of coffee over the New Year's and nothing was open. The High Street Merchants was, and it was a good thing too. You walk into the shop and you're surrounded by stones being sold, all with (apparently) deep connections to nature and people's emotional state. If that sort of New Age style thing isn't your cup of tea, that's cool - the food is king here. And the selection of food is modern (Buddha bowls) and healthy whilst not skipping on nutrition. I had a lamb Buddha Bowl which was reasonably priced for what it was - I couldn't finish it because it was so packed! They have an amazing selection of desserts and drinks. I absolutely adored the lazy New Year's Eve afternoon there, and to top it off, the staff were great! Highly recommended.

Enjoyed HIgh St. Merchants twice during our short stay in Grantown. First for lunch (delicious Buddha bowls with generous portions) and second for coffee and cake (very tasty spiced apple and pear loaf, yum!). Service was professional and friendly (a tricky balance to strike) and we felt immediately welcome. Loved the artwork, also available for purchase. Highly recommend!

13th October, my daughter mentioned she had a nut allergy, at this the man went off one, raising his voice, saying he could go to prison if any thing happened, she always carries an epipen, she only wanted a bowl of soup!! Also obviously not spending enough money? Basically thrown out, they had lunch in a very nice hotel down the road. So much for a warm Scottish welcome.

Hidden Gem! Found this lovely cafe on Google and we were able to book in at short notice far a large family. Fabulous menu with gorgeous freshly prepared meals to suit everyone topped off with lots of tempting cakes and treats. Staff were so friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!

We visited as a family, the lady who found us a table was very kind, considerate and helpful. The menu was largely vegan/vegetarian which doesn’t really suit our taste. However, the quality was good and it was very nicely served. The chef reluctantly removed some of the items from one of the orders to please one of our group, this was not reflected in the price. The cakes were delicious, the service was excellent.
