Food was excellent service was excellent. Just a shame the premises is now in a bit of a sorry state. Dead plants outside by entrance. Outside dining which is lovely on a summer evening was dirty & untidy. Light bulbs outside were not all working. Wouldn’t take long for a little tidy up

Ate here Sunday for the first time and was very impressed When parking the car noticed that the outside of the pub was a bit tired so started to wander if we had made the right choice On entry was pleasantly surprised that the interior was much better A very warm welcome by the staff all of which were very friendly, polite and professional Was offered a choice of tables (we decided to sit outside). Quickly asked if we wanted drinks and given menus and wine list but never felt hurried Ordered cockles and half a pint of prawns as nibbles both of them were delicious Pate and mussels as starters once again very good only criticism would be no butter and not enough toast with the pate Both me and my wife had ribeye steak cooked to perfection the chips were great and all the accompaniments Prices are very reasonable service fantastic food very good all in all a great meal Noticed that some reviews had mentioned the cleanliness of the toilets both me and the wife had absolutely no issues with them Thanks to all the staff will definitely be back

I have been to this restaurant many times but have never been to the ladies toilet. Food and staff are excellent. My husband went to the gents and said that they left a lot to be desired. My sister and I went to the ladies as we left and I can only describe it as a shock. They are absolutely filthy toilet bowl is dark brown hair and God knows what on tiles. Feet felt like they were sticking to the floor. They're were two ladies washing their hands and they both were saying the same. I mentioned the state of them to our waitress as we left she could only apologise but agreed with me. If you did not know good was good you would pass this restaurant by as the exterior is so unkempt. Plant lots full of weeds and pot holes in the car park. This is such a shame as the food and staff are good, although it did leave us wondering about the kitchen..... Sadly we cannot recommend this restaurant.

Food was ok shame about the toilets !!! They need a complete refurb & a good clean It would definitely turn me off going there again For a restaurant this is really poor 😩😩

Never been disappointed with the choice or quality of the food here. The staff are attentive and friendly and I would definitely recommend if you’re in the area.

I want to start by saying me and my husband have been for roasts here before and never had a problem. We booked a table for 11 plus a high chair. Two days prior we phoned and ordered our roasts ahead of time. We all arrived around 2pm, the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy but it was very cold! A young girl came to take our drinks order and these were delivered to the table one by one 🤦🏼‍♀️ we waited almost 50 mins for our meals to be served, at no time were we asked if we needed anything else, never asked if we wanted any sauces, they never approached the table again to ask if we wanted anymore drinks , if everything was ok with our meals, nothing. We ordered dessert, we waited longer than was necessary for these, the brownies in the chocolate quad weren’t warmed? Again no real customer service was delivered and we just expected the minimum! There didn’t seem to be a senior member of staff directing these youngsters at all. The cold air pours off the old windows in there, be warned, one table had there coats on throughout. Such a shame as it used to be impeccable service and food.

My family have been eating here for years and we call it our local restaurant. That was until last night.I went with my husband the service was a little slow, I ordered the skate. Its what I normally order and so do most of my family when we all go, after one bite I realised there was something wrong with it. There was a foul taste like cleaning fluid and a smell of ammonia. I ask my husband to taste it and he took a small bit from the other side, he said it was definitely not right. We told the waitress and she went to the kitchen went she returned she asked if I would like another one, I said yes but I am pregnant and would it be okay. She then went back to the kitchen when she returned she said it would be best to have something else. So the fish was not right. I had steak that was fine, there was no charge for the fish but I think they should have offer a discount on the bill. We have had some big family meals here but we will not be visiting again there was little in the way of customer care.

Booked this reservation few months ago. Ordered the prawn and crab fishcake for starters. There was no mention of spicy potato cake on the menu,there was no prawns and crab that you can see.all you can see or taste is potato and it was very spicy. I’m no connoisseur on food but I have been to a few fish restaurants,Rick stein’s would be disappointed and I really don’t think to put spice on skate should be an option to customers. When mentioned this to the staff, the supervisor came with attitude. My family and I will not be going back. Could not wait to get out of the restaurant,

We went as a group of 6 friends for a get together. The food and service were both excellent. The price was right too. We all enjoyed our meals. We chose a broad selection from the menu and all had 3 courses. All the orders came out correctly and at the right temperature. We were there for 3 hours and never felt rushed. A lovely atmosphere for a get together with friends. We'll done Choppys.

I haven’t been here for a while and the first thing I will say is that the food is really good. It has been consistently very good every time any friend or family has come here. So that’s a massive plus. But the service was not good. I appreciate there were new staff members and everyone has to start somewhere but there seemed to be a lack of communication between the serving staff and the kitchen. And not good to keep having to ask for things a few times. It wasn’t busy. The waiting staff were not busy. A shame as with great service this restaurant would be hard to beat.

On entering were pleased to see a roaring open fire. We were shown straight to our table by a waiter who appeared totally uninterested in welcoming us. The food was tasty, hot and well presented. The drinks service was OK but slow, definitely let the experience down. Would return for the food alone.

We have always loved it here and it’s been our go to place however, this time was so disappointing! The menu had changed slightly which was a shame. One of our starters arrived cold as did a few other tables we saw, it was replaced but by this time I had finished eating. The service was ok but not amazing. I don’t know what has changed here but it’s such a shame for somewhere that used to be brilliant

popped in for a quick bite with my husband & 2 dogs, we sat on the patio area as the weather was lovely. We shared a couple of starters (pate & seafood) and a few glasses of wine, lovely food and nice service :)

Excellent service, comprehensive menu and good quality food at reasonable prices. The restaurant was not very busy as it was a Wednesday, and we were the last customers, but we never felt rushed at all and the service - like the food - was really good

hi (table 12) the chicken liver starter (we shared) was nice but my roast beef lunch was not. V tough meat (doubt it was Rib of beef as stated)., dry and well over cooked. manager (i assume) did say he would replace but I'd had enough so i said we would accept a free dessert instead. the dessert was ok, but not taken off the bill. service was slow (there were 17 people in there incl us we two). The two young girls were "ok" but the young chap was movng about like an audition for "the walking dead". have been several times before. Not sure if go back again

I came here for the first time for a Sunday lunch with my husband and my parents (who are notoriously fussy) and we had a wonderful time. The servers were very pleasant and the food was exceptional. Everything came out promptly which impressed me as it was quite busy, the food was very hot and beautifully presented. Excellent first visit, we will definitely be returning.

We have come here quite a few times and we always leave impressed. Drinks, service and food all A*. The flavours in all dishes are delicious and you can see the effort gone into them. We love it here

Visited here with a big group of friends and had a fab time. Food was very good. We chose to purchase our own drinks from the bar as we went along so no issues with ordering or waiting time. I would say that the thing that let it down for me was the toilets ! Really not very good at all. If this was rectified its a great restaurant. Staff were helpful and polite. Please fix the toilet situation !!!

Choppy disappointing.... very shabby unkept and loos are dreadful need paint and good clean . The food was nice but the surroundings and service is pretty poor ... order wine to arrive at table with here’s ur SAV plonked down ... will not be back

The food as usual is excellent but the service is terrible, the staff never ask if you would like more drinks or if your meal is ok. We went up to a member of staff to order another drink which never arrive and when asked again she said oh I forgot.

Disappointing visit. Roast dinner was very tired and dry, children’s play area is not at all pleasant full of stinging nettles and rubbish, given 4 months of lockdown this should be better and doesn’t cost anything. Long wait for table given circumstances that isn’t a big issue really. Outside benches are dilapidated and falling apart as well as being wonky and uncomfortable to sit on, it’s a shame this used to be much better a few years back.

Received our meal for 19:00 on 3-Apr-21 and have thoroughly (absolutely totally!!!!) enjoyed it. The quality was superb and totally complimented the 2013 Chateau de la Commanderie (St Estephe) that I had opened!Thank you SO much for a wonderful meal that has celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary.We had the Scallops and Prawns for starters - Duck breast and Game Pie for mains - 2 x lemon possets for dessert. Generous portions and beautifully cooked. Arrived at our front door about 18:55 - ready for a 19:00 dinner.Highly recommended

Another great takeaway from Choppys. Some new things on the menu along with the old favourites. All piping hot and generous portions. More than happy to support this restaurant in lockdown and can’t wait to be able to sit in their garden for a drink and dinner sometime soon, I hope.

Had a Takeaway Sunday Roast (Chicken breast) last weekend. Very nice indeed and great value too. It's nice not to cook once in a while and also to help local business during this lockdown.

Went here for the first time and it certainly won't be the last! Excellent food, we had cockle popcorn, mussels, pig on a plate and steak and everything was first class! Very good service and covid precautions. Would highly recommend!

Good food and good service. Prawns to start were fresh and tasty. Beef Wellington main course was fantastic. Definitely worth a visit if in the vicinity. All staff doing their best to meet covid restrictions etc. but all very attentive and pleasant.

Made the most of a gorgeous Sunday and had a loveky meal at Choppys. 8 of us ate, all of us were really happy! The roast dinners were outstanding and the kids food was great too. Loveky attentive staff and even with covid rules in place it still felt warm and cosy. Been several times and never been disappointed

Having enjoyed eating here in the past,today's meal was a let-down - presentation lacking and accompliments to the dishes way too sparce - not the meal we were hoping for.

We celebrated a birthday tonight at choppys. The food was absolutely amazing, we will definitely be back. Reece was fantastic, ensured we were happy throughout our meal and couldn’t do enough for us and the children. Thankyou for a lovely evening all round

Very disappointed. We have been going to Choppys regularly for several years, so chose it for our first meal out after lockdown and to celebrate our 38th Wedding Anniversary. Despite having booked in advance there was no table with a "reserved" sign on for us and we were seated next to the kitchen exit with all it's associated noise and smells. When we asked to be moved we were put at a table that could easily have seated 6 and in direct sunlight so we had to turn away in order not to be dazzled by the sun. We placed our drinks order and also our food order, the drinks and starters were served no problem but we had to wait more than 40 minutes for our main course to arrive. My wife's braised lamb was fine, however my "platter of pig" was luke warm. I asked for it to be replaced, and it was taken away. My replacement was obviously the same meal microwaved as the crackling had gone soft and the sausage had been cut in half and stuck in the mash! We reordered our drinks asking for the same as before only for my wife to be given a different gin. After dessert and a single latte coffee I then had to go in search of a waitress in order to get the bill (they were all inside having a good old natter). After all this even the bill was wrong as we were charged for 2 lattes. Considering the bill for the two of us was nearly £100, I don't think it was worth it. We certainly won't be going back again which is a shame as we have had some nice meals there.

Have always visited Choppys so was extremely pleased to hear they would be doing takeaway deliveries at weekends through lockdown. The family had a great meal last night - everything was piping hot and fantastic quality and quantity. More than happy to support this great local venue at this difficult time.

We eat here regularly as a weekend treat with the family before heading to Van Hages with the kids. Don’t believe the 4 star reviews I have taken work colleagues, clients, family members and friends to this place and anyone I have ever taken here has also agreed that the food here is amazing. The presentation is great and not over complicated, the quality of ingredients is top notch, and the ever changing menu and specials board always makes it an exciting experience. Service can sometimes be a bit slow, but other than that I think it is the best restaurant for miles around.

I have review this restaurant some time ago. Revisited today with two great friends for lunch.Very good selection and quality, it's not cheap, but like my late mother told me you get what you oat for.The rack of lamb is especially good and so are the fish courses.Friendly and attentive service too.

i went here for a birthday meal and the food was delicious. staff were friendly and attentive. food service was a little slow but it was very busy so we didn't mind. had the squid starter and the paella main- both lovely!

First time here. Popped in on the off chance for lunch today and chose mushroom and brie risotto which was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The service was also excellent. We will definitely be back.

Just fancied a midweek lunch and have a rest from evening cooking. We chose the Waggon and Horses based on a recommendation. We were not disappointed.There are few places offering fish courses as well as the usual meats. I started with mussells which were excellent followed by skate wing. The skate was cooked perfectly with roasted tomatoes, some spices and a touch of chilli.The coffee was also very good which is a bonus for me.Very pleasant staff timed the serving just right.

We were trying to choose a restaurant and read a couple of reviews which could have put us off. So glad that we went - go and find out for yourself - excellent. Plenty of staff serving and wonderful food, beautifully presented. As good as a top London restaurant, without the cost.

If you enjoy fish then forget Smith's as this restaurant blows it out of the water, not literally! In our view this is the best fish restaurant in the area. Good menu choice, food piping hot & a great wine selection served at the right temperature. Can not fault it.

where to start. Walked past window after parking car to entrance saw one of the kitchen staff with mouth full of noodles eating out of some kind of tupperware box not a good start, i know the poor bloke needs to eat but i didnt really want to see that. i was with people who recommended this place who have eaten here before so didnt want to make a fuss.Entered and table booked for 4 no booking had been made and waited while a table was set up for us not a problem. Shown to table at end of restaurant and was seated. My chair had lots of stains on and long black hairs on the seat which my husband blew off for me then we waited and waited and waited finally waitress came over to take order we told her not even had a menu yet. Ordered some wine waited and waited then saw waitress doing other things had forgot. Asked another waitress then she forgot what it was and came back to ask which it was. I asked about a dish on special boards she didnt no the answer to that said will go and find out. Got the starter i ordered crab dish was very watery with two little prawns on top. Finally the main arrived enjoy your meals can we have some knives and forks please which the waitress got off other tables. The service oh so slow and the girls not very polite really. The mains was ok. I did not have desert but my husband had the brulee which was flavoured with orange it was very very runny. I used the toilet before travelling home was dirty and paper towels all over the floor.Got the bill almost £200 for this experience not worth the money. people who have been before said will not return either. When i got home to Norfolk i checked scores on the door and was shocked to see a 4 as i thought place was dirty and needed some TLC but perhaps just too busy over holiday season.

Have past this Resturant so many times and said we must try it,so at last we have.we had a very enjoyable fish lunch and delicious crumble for desert will definitely be returning.

Another Sunday dinner with family

Went into a very quiet pub mid afternoon after visiting the nearby and very large garden centre. Waitress was fine drinks quick and then took our order fairly and then we waited and waited.... and waited.

Love the atmosphere at Choppy's. The food is always good. Staff are friendly and it's a good spot to visit all year round with a relaxing outdoor space to enjoy the food with friends.

Good family evening - good and varied menu. Service was good and food well presented. The staff were all helpful and happy

Had a lovely 2 course meal whereby the food was really excellent. However, the service was poor. We had initially received the wrong menu and had to re-order .

I went to Choppy’s on a Saturday afternoon - the decking area outside is just divine to sit down and enjoy a few drinks and their amazing food. Food came quick and very reasonably priced

Ordered a steak as it is a steak and fish restaurant, order a rare rump. Arrived and was well done, the duty manager responded ‘I do not know how it should look as I avoid red meat.’ He offered to take it back to get cooked more and/or offered a replacement. We replied how can you cook more to make rare? He then said well it does look quiet grey!! A grey steak usually old! Making things even worse. We also ordered a large glass of rose which came in a wine glass with the marked measured lines. The wine came a cm below the the 250ml measure. His response was that the bar measure is a 250ml measure just the glass is wrong. My partner trying to make light of the event said he must have bought from China, the manager responded by saying no they are actually from Zimbabwe, because the boss likes to buy things as cheap as possible’!! Also not a good thing to mention, what else is scrimped on....He was very argumentative and not at all apologetic the worst customer service ever received. High priced food not worth the money, no wonder the place was very quiet. Would recommend avoiding.

Came here for lunch yesterday which was really good, the food was lovely and the serving staff pleasant.

Nice friendly service/staff, unfortunately garden needs a tidy, and the outside tables although empty are left dirty.

I visited with my partner and son on Saturday and we had a lovely lunch.

We went to Choppy's on Easter Monday, and ate outside on the patio. The sandwiches with salad and fries are substantial plates of food - my wife had the mushrooms and stilton. I had a daily special - Bami Goreng - spicy beef and vegetables with rice - which was delicious.

Our friends and I had a really lovely meal last night at Choppy’s. The garden was full of people enjoying the late sun and the restaurant started filling up.

Staff all friendly and helpful. Starters were all good. We had the roast beef which was cooked to perfection, and all the trimmings. Puddings all lovely. Not to expensive for what we had.

Service was good and waiters very friendly. Decor modern. Food great. We went on a Sunday when they offered roast which looked amazing. Outsids parking is a bit tight so get there in good time.

We had our first meal today at Choppys and was very impressed by both the service and the meal. We had the roasts which were hot, tasty and plentiful. We needed extra gravy which wasn't an issue to be honest nothing was an issue we were waited on very nicely.

As a group of 8 friends meeting to eat at very late notice, the hospitality, service and food were excellent - couldn't have expected more if we had booked months in advance. We will definitely be coming back.

Popped in for a late Saturday lunch.first view was a fire which seemed cozy, but when shown to a table the whole decor seemed a bit uninspired. Maybe they had just decorated and not put the pictures back up. There were only a few other parties in, one quite large. Meals (3) were good. We had fish pie, fish and chips and mussels and chips all of which were enjoyed. Service was good and perfectly fast enough. Some other meals we saw also looked good especially the rack of ribs. I'll have that next time.

This restaurant is a hidden gem - it's small but they don't squeeze diners in, excellent food and provides exceptional service. This was my first visit and I will definitely visit again!

We were three ladies catching up before Christmas. We all ordered fish & chips, perfect for Friday lunchtime.

A quiet well run restaurant. A good range on the menu. Service was very polite but they could and should be a little more attentive at times.

I was very pleasantly surprised and the choice of fare and service which was friendly and efficient. There was a large choice of starters, main and sweet, also plenty of options for children. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment.

I have been there previously but was forced to give it another try as my family said it had got better. It was slightly better but the service was still really slow, the food ok but nothing special and it is not what it is sold us and quite disappointing.

Had a lovely meal, food was great, service superb. As I wanted to leave a tip I enquired of the waitress who got the tip, her personally or shared with others? Absolutely gobsmacked to find out the owner is included in the tips! Chefs are included, which I would expect but not impressed at owner taking a cut. Pure greed.

Have visited Choppy's several times over the past few years and always been happy. However, past 2 visits so appalling, will not be frequenting again! The service was slow, appreciate they get busy but as a paying customer, not acceptable! The last visit, we were asked if we could have our starters and mains at the same as the chef had got them ready together by mistake. We refused and our mains were left on the side and delivered to us when we finished our starter, dry and cold. When heated up they were even worse! I would expect fresh mains to be cooked. Have spoken to a few people since who have all said there is a decline in standard of food and service so not just us!

Staff friendly enough but for the money the steak was VERY average - in fact nothing special about the meal at all. Portion size on “sides” was poor too. Restaurant very quiet on a Friday night maybe a sign ... needs to be better or reduce prices. Ok but next time would choose to go to George IV down the road.

What a lovely experience! A restaurant feel within a pub atmosphere. Elegant in all aspects and the waiter delivered everything with a smile. Prices are moderate £16.95 average for the mains (though steak options much higher) and around £6-8 for starters, £6 average for desert). We had delicious pork belly and skate for mains and the food was delicious. Apple crumble to finish and decent Prosecco/beer to accompany the food. Definitely one to return to. Just one big disappointment - the toilets are badly in need of refurbishment (doesn’t leave a great impression after the quality food experience).

This was my first visit to Choppys, I was pleasantly surprised with the whole dining experience and it's quickly becoming my favourite local restaurant. The staff were very attentive, the atmosphere was good and the food was fantastic (lovely presentation of food as well as taste)! Can't wait to go again next month!!

I have been wanting to visit this pub / restaurant for sometime. It is probably the only place I have not visited since I have lived in Ware.

Had a delicious meal with friends first time we had been and would definitely go back again. Food and atmosphere excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Lovely deck in the back for dining. Specials are always very good. The artisian ice cream to die for. Friendly staff.

I consider myself to be a frequent visitor to Choppy’s. And always received excellent food and service. And is one of my favourite places to eat. However on this occasion it failed miserably with my expectations of their usual high standard of excellent service and food. And I feel it badly let me down on this occasions It is such a shame that my review is so negative but there was nothing positive about this visit. . Arrived at 6.30 pm on Thursday evening. Sat outside and think we were forgotten. Had to go inside to ask for someone to take our orders.

We recently held our Wedding Reception at Choppys from start to finish it really was the most perfect day for us & our guests, the food was absolutely brilliant and the staff where amazing, highly recommended

Service was good. Sitting out on the terrace was a very pleasant affair except for the mosquito bites. Food was of a high quality and enjoyed by the whole group.

We visited this evening (a friday night) for a table we booked 2 days ago. At the door the staff greeted us very politely and showed us to the restaurant, where another member of staff showed us to our table.

Went to here on a beautiful summer evening. Sat outside in a lovely laid out eating area. Food was very good the menu offered a good selection of fish and meat options. The service was excellent. High recommended.

Myself and my wife have eaten here for breakfast lunch and dinner over the last couple of weeks and can't fault anything.

We recently visited choppys one sunny evening to be totally let down , tables where dirty , napkins under table , seats covered in food, all members of staff looked very inexperienced and seemed to be no senior members over seeing , we ordered two sirloins which did come out pretty quickly which was great but when we looked at the plate they was basically just lumps of fat, and no cuttlery to hack through it , walked out in shock and would not be rushing back .

Pleasant evening with friends. Starter, main, dessert, with a glass of wine about £40 pp. Food was good quality. I had the mussels for the main and it was very nice indeed. Wife had the steak which was cooked just how she liked it. Staff very friendly and relaxed. Very nice evening out.

Lovely outside eating area. Friendly helpful staff. Good varied menu had smoked salmon ploughman’s- good choice for light lunch. Friends had skate which was delicious!

Popped in on a rainy Sunday walked into a lovely greeting and even though we had not booked we was assured it wasn’t a problem and was offered a seat

4 of us went there this evening. Three of us had the rack of ribs which I can honestly say are the best I have had in years. We will certainly return and next time try the lamb shank next time. Service was very good.

Felt i had to write a review as this was my worst restaurant experience -

We booked months in advance for Mothers Day. A large party of 12 ranging in ages from 12 - 80. We took the trouble to pre-order mains to assist the kitchen staff.

When we booked we asked if they could accommodate a quiet table for our elderly members one which is deaf and one that is blind.

We visited last night for a valentines meal we were surprised we managed to secure a table just the day before , the service started of speedy the lady who served us at the start was friendly and fast

Food was amazing! Had the sea bass, was lovely! The rest of our party enjoyed their meals also. I felt the staff we very unorganised/ inexperienced when it came to ordering drinks and communicating with the bar staff.

I was travelling from Essex to Hertford and came across this place. What a great find, from a friendly welcome to a well set out venue, it looked like it had a fantastic outside area too. Opted for a light bite, but well executed with attentive staff. Wine list looked far from your boring run of the mill wine list and I had a glass of the Shiraz, one of the best I have tasted in that price range. Overall great value for money with honest home cooked pub grub. The only thing that let it down were the toilets, need attention, taps not working and very mix matched style - small thing but everything else was fantastic.

Excellent restaurant just outside Ware. Very good food and drinks, and the staff are very attentive.

Had another lovely meal at the lovely Choppy. Excellent service and fresh well prepared food. Recommend the seafood trio starter and the halibut. Have been many times over the years. Always good. Lovely outdoor dining in the summer. A gem!

I had my birthday dinner last night at choppy's we were greeted by friendly staff , we were seated and offer drinks.... the service was great. The food was so good and filling.... over all it was so worth the hour drive...

Christmas day was not great . On arrival at 2.30pm i asked the barman for a drink and he replied you are to early and i am busy !!. We waited for ages for our table , eventually we were seated. No drinks orders taken !! so had to get them ourselves - Prosseco was offered and given out an hour after be seated. I can appreciate that it was busy so this has to be taken into consideration however the service was non existent. All of the above could be overlooked but it cant hide the fact that the food was not up to standard. We waited hours & hours for it to come . Starters - Duck " Not fit for human consumption " Brie Parcels - No brie in , Soup - Congealed Slime . Main Course - Some people had potatoes some did not - Some people had one carrot others had none . The duck was so bad from the starter that people asked for just Turkey as there main " Half a slice each ?? We then had to clear our own plates !!! Deserts - Mouse - Liquid Chocolate , Crumble - Full of greasy oil , Christmas puddings - rock hard and not edible .

We booked our Christmas day dinner in September and were informed there are two sittings. There was only availability on the first sitting 12 noon till 3.30pm.
