Nice place, nice food at good prices

I'm sorry to say I have eaten here so many times for convenience but last night was the last time. I cannot remember a time when we didn't have an issue with the food. Either they don't have certain things, the food is always cold, ill presented and terrible value for money, however cheap! Never again.

Staff rude, food bad, no customer skills. Avoid Monday evenings. The large Cod and chips meal was terrible, queried the portion size to be told yes it was by the rude young man who delivered it to the table. When we finished he came over and very rudely, with attitude said "you done" I very much was with his bad attitude. I did however take my elderly mum back there on Saturday lunchtime for fish and chips and it was a whole different experience, I just won't go again on a Monday evening!

Service was great! The abbot ale was great quality. 3 of us for lunch, I had the fish and chips, fish perfectly cooked batter crispy and delicious. Chip portion was okay but they were a little over cooked for my liking but no big deal. Didn't have any chicken basket meals at the time, so the others had sausage chips and beans, and a sausage sandwich. Zero complaints from there meals. Overall a great experience, lovely bar staff, lovely food, beer was of good quality. And as a side note the disabled toilet was clean! One of the better wetherspoons I've been in.

Drinks are decent for the price but the food always taste lukewarm (except for the pizzas) staff are pretty good at tidying up

Quick service and clean, my hot food & drink were all good and table service was good including being asked if all was OK.

Great value drink ! Nice establishment, decided to have some food as was hungry! Sadly who ever cooked the food needs a lesson on being chef , pizza not cooked through base was doughy top not crispy , all u need is a hot oven, coleslaw served in a warm bowl ? Why? Chips not triple cooked looked like they were old and over done , not hot just reheated in old oil ! Chicken bites over done. , heavy in old oil a waste of £15 quid

Great service, nice atmosphere, ideal for a family meal on a day out.

Visited on Saturday morning, 22nd March, not very busy at 9 am, and the dig so couldn't go inside, so I sat in the garden. Downloaded the app to order breakfast. After 30 minutes. Went to the bar to check the progress of my order and was told it would be 10 minutes. After nearly an hour and still no breakfast appeared, I was told by a member of staff that dogs were not allowed in the garden, and I needed to sit on the side of the pub and she would bring my food right out. Waited a further 20 mins, and still no breakfast arrived. I ran out of time and had things to do, so I just left. I am a chef, and I know it doesn't take nearly an hour and 20 mins to cook a small breakfast when you are not very busy. I am new to Hertford and this was not a good impression of the business.

Ordered food & drink on the app. Took ages for even our drinks to arrive!! Bar open until 12 midnight, but when I tried to order a couple of beers at 23.45, service was refused. No last orders, just service refusal. Very poor.

Popped into The Six Templars for a cup of coffee after visiting a relative who has a terminal illness. I brought in my own snack and was told by bar staff to stop eating it because they have food behind the bar! Very disappointed as they are still making money on drinks and I have a food allergy, which is why I brought my own snack.

Always warm and comfortable, usual Spoons food and drinks available and good service. Grat town centre location next to the castle grounds entrance and near the new cinema / theatre complex. The range of beers on tap is sometimes disappointing. For Spoons, with so many at their disposal it could be better. Not every pumpclip displayed is available, management policy. 10 Feb 2025 - Disappointed, not a dark beer in the house, pump can or bottle!

Service was shocking . Waited over 25 mins to get served bar staff served loads of younger people who were there after me. Eventually had to try and get there attention. Poorly run bar.

Very very slow on the food. Nothing seemed to be leaving the kitchen. Avoid at all costs.

For £6.94 for 2 pints of Abbott Ale and a Guiness you can't go wrong. We got there early for pre drinks before a meal. Happy days!

Popped in for lunch and my partner chose “Wings, bites and strips” only £7.49 for three options and never seen so much chicken. Served quickly with a smile and very tasty. I ordered the new “Sticky Korean Fried Chicken Bowl”. Only £10 with a pint of really lovely JBH ale (so nice I just had to have another one). Large helping of really tasty chicken in a lovely spicy sauce sitting on a plentiful supply of chips. Hope this dish becomes a permanent fixture on the menu.

Had 2 breakfasts which were traditional and was good for the price to be fair but we couldn't be bothered to complain about the beans as they were cold but the toast was nice and warm, the 2 hash browns I enjoyed mostly and the sausages were fine as they go the lovely refills of lattes plentiful, and the bacon a little on the hard side when eating; and only 1 coffee machine working and toilets upstairs ive Been before to this weatherspoons and always when I've gone quiet a few staff about but didn't seem rushed of their feet we were served quickly guy behind the bar was very helpfull when asked about the tea machine seemed tidy the place itself would I go again yeah I will

Freezing cold and the staff especially the girl is charging extra on rounds of drinks compared to any other spoons. Ie: lemonades on pints etc . MOST EXPENSIVE PINT WHEN SHE DOING THAT. Is it management telling her to do it ?

Tuesday 18.27 12th November 2024. TILL 3. Worst waitress in the world. Brought team here. Lemonade tops more lemonade than lager and charged lemonade extra on top of the lager. Is there a manager here that cares ????

Called in on a Saturday evening, great atmosphere

Good food, good service as well. However marred last night by the big fight that took place. Thankfully it was contained mostly their courtyard, not what you want to see when visiting the Beam theatre next door to watch a family show.

Firsr time at The Six Templars and was impressed with the service and food. Definitely will be going back for more. Good job guys n girls.

Ok pub, cheap and cheerful, some of the food could be improved . Hard yolks om fried eggs and the added indian starter is dreadful, better off not offering anything than that even though it's very cheap

Food was fine. Came here for breakfast with my nan and my brothers. The lady who served us (had a septum piercing I didn’t catch her name) was very rude and full of attitude. Slammed the glass on the table when bringing over a drink, shouted at me about moving chairs around and gave us nasty attitude when it came to taking our empty plates. She needs a conversation about how she talks to customers. I get it’s 10am and she might be tired but that’s just not acceptable. We won’t be coming here for breakfast again

Cheap food, some items for children out of stock, toilets need some attention. Friendly staff, easy enough to order on the app and came quickly.

We enjoyed this wetherspoons very much, food was nice, portions are good. Service was reasonable considering it was busy, I liked the scenery and atmosphere.

Me and my friends are regular customers at the six templars Wetherspoons but yesterday me and my friends were barred simply because we knew someone that has been previously barred. When my friend asked the reasoning behind it, the manager started shouting and swearing at him even though he wasn’t raising his voice or showing any hostility. They were supposed to have barred some other people but barred us instead. They accused us of harassing one of the bartenders even though we hardly ever go up to the bar. We mostly order our drinks and food over the Wetherspoons app. They say they have a photo of everyone that is barred but we are not even in the photo. If they have a photo of the person who is harassing the bartender, we’ll happily confirm who it is to help out. The manager also told us that anyone we know or knows us is also barred, so that includes other friends and family members. Most of our group have not even had our first warning and we are getting punished for someone else’s doing. We was also threatened with extending the 6 month ban to a year because we was “annoying” the manager even though we standing on the public pathway figuring out where to go eat and no longer on the premises. He was very rude and discriminatory against us all because we knew someone who we have not been associated with for several months.

Great food, good vibes, disappointing hot chocolate.. Not as great as it used to be.

I do like this wetherspoons pub. But my most recent visit wasn't the best experience. Ordered a gourmet steak meal and the steak was awful. It was like chewing old leather. I had to give up in the end and only managed half of it, if that. I didn't bother to complain as it's not a steak restaurant and it was cheap. In addition, the air con was freezing. Had to sit outside in the end as it was warmer out there. This dispite asking for it to be turned down or off. Several customers agreed it was too cold.

Great place to drink and eat with great location but the American Burger was too small a portion. The chips were also too small portion, greasy and soggy with no taste! The new Ramen dish was of great taste and good portion. San Miguel lager was superb. However, it was disappointing to note that most seats were worn out with stains and old fading upholstery. It’s about time that they’re refurbished or renewed.

Had read some negative reviews, but pub was lovely and light, and clean. Fish and chips great. We went at lunchtime and it was fairly quiet.

I went about 5.00 pm and there were families with young children who let them run about. I thought the food was expensive and they do a big Yorkshire pudding which fills up the plate. I would prefer smaller pudding and more roast potatoes.

Popped into this spoons while wondering around the streets of Hertford (LOADS of good looking pubs in this town by the looks of it- if you have the time). A more modern building amongst the history surrounding it, but none the less pleasant as a result. The usual spoons deal with wonderfully friendly staff and normal seating options, including an additional seating area upstairs. The fish and chips was excellent as was the Guinness. There is decent wheelchair access at the front and to the right.

It's a Wetherspoons. Food is generally good. Occasionally hit and miss. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff.

This place is not dog friendly, they cannot allow you to seat with your dog outside. Why? They cannot explain!

Staff were great and prices for both food and drink were great value. Why can't other places be this great value.

We decided to sit outside in the garden as it was a hot day, we also had our miniature dachshund with us, so ideal as he could lay under the table. My husband went in and ordered our lunch along with a side of bacon and specifically said for our dog (no comment was made). Before our food arrived a waitress came over and said that dogs are not allowed at all, this includes the garden. I explained that we’d ordered food and no one said anything at the bar when we mentioned our dog, plus the fact there are no clear signs that say dogs are not even allowed in the garden. The waitress then said you can eat your food and then you have to leave! I ordered a cheese and tomato ciabatta, when it arrived it was the flattest ciabatta I had ever seen, 2 slices of tomato and I couldn’t see any cheese in it at all, let alone taste it. ( I wish I’d taken a photo) Overall the standard is extremely poor food wise, I wouldn’t recommend this place for food as the quality is unacceptable. As for no dogs, not even in the garden is ridiculous! Steer clear of this place, there are so many decent places to eat and drink in Hertford and this place just spoils it!!

Ordered the large breakfast it was absolutely cracking great breakfast haven't been to this one in a few years but it didn't disapoint at all great Atmosphere prefer this one to Bishop's Stortford one staff are friendly here had ordered separate items but they'd put all on same plate great work we'll definitely be back soon

Food was cold some was burnt staff need to be sent for customer service training didn't seem bothered about it duty manager tried to sort it out but he was let down by his staff this is probably the worst Wetherspoons I have had the misfortune to visit the replacement food was hot but virtually inedible...!

Modern purpose built Wetherspoon in Hertford near the castle grounds. Usual Wetherspoon menu and value. Staff were friendly and attentive on our visit so overall a good experience. Will visit again when we're in the town again.

Beer undrinkable & would have taken at least 30 minutes to get it changed at bar so gave up, left it & went elsewhere! Not at all impressed...girl behind bar had no idea who was next to be served & had to wait ages for drinks!

Visited here nearly 3 weeks ago, given them time to resolve my complaint......i'm still waiting! Visited with 2 friends for some food and beer after a local event. We ordered our food and after chasing the food up after about 35 minutes, my meal turned up. The BBQ beef burger turned up as simple single cheese burger, should have been a double burger. No onion rings as advertised and some chips. Due to being hungry, i eat it. My 2 friends were not so "fortunate", after an hour we demanded our money back. Then as we were getting up to leave their meals turned up which we refused. I sent a complaint to head office and the following day i received an apology from The Six Templars manager, stating they only had one person in the kitchen, hence the delays. Why was we not told this when we ordered? A dreadful experience could have been avoided. I did receive a voucher for two free meals (but not drinks) to be used only at The Six Templars which is useless to me and my friends, as we like in Kent and Surrey, and to travel to Hertford would cost more than the vouchers are worth. Dreadful service. Avoid at all cost!

Good service, cheap drinks, and food. Can get food with a soft drink or a pint included for additional £1. The smoking area is available to the rear, with no smoking seating at the front of the pub (front of the pub is on a busy road. The pub has men/female toilets outside, which also serve the public as well as paying customers. On my visit (outside toilet), there was clearly a water leak somewhere as the floor was flooded.

Good food, get what you expect and great range of Ale's

It is usually quite busy and sometimes noisy. The bar staff are nice and helpful. The food is hit and miss. Sometimes it is delicious but quite a few times it is quite cold and you have to wait a while for it to be delivered

I came here a couple of days ago and my brother age 5 went to the bathroom and got completely locked in there he had a full on panic attack and was screaming so so much until they finally calmed him down one man came over and said he would bust the door open(obviously couldn’t and made a fool out of himself😂)then they passed a ladder over for him to step on because his head was too big too fit underneath it and ended up having a massive bruise on his stomach it seemed so painful he came back out all red and everything. This has never happened before so it was very scary for him and they were extremely close to calling the fire brigade he’s fine now but he said he never wants to go in a Wetherspoons toilet again.

Good choice of beers at a good price

The pub itself is well lit, warm and in good order. The staff are friendly, and there are plenty of seats available. The range of beers is impressive, as is the ability to get refills of your coffee if you are driving (like I was) The food ordered to our table consisted of 2 pizzas, a steak and the 'ultimate burger' which I had. It cost about 13 quid and for that you only got two 3oz burgers, one thin slice of cheddar and a token rasher of bacon. The burger was also not the hottest of meals. Now I cannot vouch for the quality of the other meals as I have never had them personally but they looked ok and were eaten without complaint. Maybe I caught the kitchen on a bad night, who knows. But if and when I am there again I won't be ordering the same.

Avoid at all costs, especially for food. Went with two friends. The staff forgot our food order, no apology given, when we suggested a round of drinks might be in order this was provided but with a very unpleasant remark from the manager. When two of the three meals had not appeared after an hour and three trips to the bar to chase up we demanded a refund and left, especially as other orders after ours were still coming out. Then, as we were in the act of walking out, our food appeared from the kitchen, which we refused in the circumstances. Needless to say, three complaints are going into Wetherspoon's head office.

Just been served a "pint" just over three quarters full, asked for it to be topped up and the person behind the bar said "how do I know that you haven't taken a slurp out of it". In over 40 years of drinking no-one has ever accused me of being a lying thief before (at least not on first sight).

I just want to thank the staff today who changed my food for me ,when I rushed to order before 12.00. Very nice about it ,although they were very busy,and I noticed some people leave food all over the floor. Many 😊 thanks.

Awful food and long waiting times, had to wait 40 mins for our food so I decided to approach one of the waitresses and ask where our food was as we'd been patient for 40 mins at this point, she says "I'll check on it for you" and as soon as I sat back down funnily enough our food came to our table🤡 it was cold and not worth the wait at all, the eggs weren't even cooked, the sausages were disgusting and everything was stone cold clearly the waitress hadn't noticed it was ready to take to our table and just left it waiting for ages till someone prompted her to take it, USELESS It's a shame cause I've been here in the past and the food was a lot better (I had the same meal both times) and the waiting time was short, clearly they're too understaffed for the amount of tables and customers they have SORT IT OUT My advice is DON'T GO HERE

Having visited various Wetherspoons throughout the country and my wife always has nachos for us to share. We came to Hertford and expected the same as we've always received. However, the portion of nachos priced £6.95 arrived and was so small that even one person would struggle to have sufficient. It was very small. Cheese was just about administered almost as if the spray gun had run out!! Upon complaining to the young girl who said she was manager, we were informed that the amount given was the normal amount and that no refund could be given due to the way the system works. I'm not at all happy with the food portion nor with the managerial response. Wetherspoons need to educate staff into knowing that the customer is right. Drinks were good and well priced. Atmosphere was noisy and several children were running around the pub. A leaking ceiling with buckets underneath, not fenced off. Waitress brought drinks to table and dripped some onto one of our friends legs. Apologies from her but......luckily he let it go. Even though he now has to wash those clothes. Tim Martin, take notice. Your pubs are losing their standards.

I went there today and I asked for sausage and chips and beans I got served fish and chips and beans they haven't a clue what they're doing I won't be going back there If I was the manager I would of sacked some of them

My husband visited for coffee and a coke, he said the coffee was good, the atmosphere was warm, and the service was quick and pleasant. He said if we lived in Hertford, he would visit every day — so I think he liked it :)

Popped in for a drink .. fairly busy ...we were there for nearly 2 hours and it was lovely to watch GWEN work ...service with a smile for everyone, always busy always a smile ..wish all bar staff in all pubs were as efficient as her👍

Well we decided to go to the Hertford 6 Templers pub for a change from the Potters Bar pub, on reflection it was a bad change, for us as it is the very first time I have been dis-satisfied with a weatherspoons food visit. We usually go for the 2-5 special offer fish n chips. Well when the meals arrived on the table I was stunned by the size of the fish even though the batter increased the size, it looked like the normal size cut long ways into 2 or three slivers. My wife's looked a lot more to normal but a bit smaller than usual. I said that I was very dissapointed on the size. The waitress said it was the normal size but I pointed out the size difference to my wife's lunch. She took it back and after a longer time than the first, it arrived back with a very small difference. Also the chips were only berely warm. I will not make any more changes in the future, l will stick with Potters Bar pub. So dissapointed!

I would have given this place no stars if it had let me. Awful staff. Obviously basic food but the staff don't seem to be friendly or polite they never seem to ask if everything's ok like they used to do. Just seem to me that all they care about is there looks and money. It's always a hit and miss when it comes to food that's why I changed this review.

Love this place, the vibe is always friendly, the layout is good (I love the nook to the left of the bar- was there on Monday and a log fire was going). Good range of cheap drinks. The food can be a bit hit/miss, just be careful what you order. Staff nice

Had a problem with our food order via app, asked to speak to manager and I must say he was apologetic, courteous, professional and sorted the problem immediately, thank you to Michael stolimans. This young man is an asset to the company!

69 years old, pub goer, worst service I’ve experienced in many years. Two people at the bar (myself and one other several bar staff around) other guy served, new customer walks up and is served next, complain told your next. Gave order totally messed up (3 drinks) told had to pay extra, manager involved, manager couldn’t work the tills, total shambles. Now a large queue at the bar. Need to train staff and management. Poor, poor experience.

'Once again' another disappointing visit. That's three on the trot! Burger & chips, how can you not do a reasonable job in a professional kitchen. It was dry, like it had been under a warmer for a while & the chips were 'over' crispy and overcooked. Three strikes and out. I will not be back again.

What’s going on ? Got my usual gourmet steak , it appears they now absolutely smoother your steak in what they call seasoning , no it a bucket of salt , so much it burns your mouth , sent back , they bought another steak same salty rubbish , only conclusion is they doing this to make you buy more drinks , if weatherspoons don’t get rid of this new idea of there’s I won’t be back
