Food was cold and chips was lumpy, would not recommend, staff was rude

Bought a chicken wrap meal expecting a decent sized wrap and was extremely disappointed to open the container to see a sorry looking wrap with 1 measly piece of chicken and a very sparse amount of supposed "salad". The chips were 90% grease so they got binned, the can of juice was the only decent part of the meal Won't be back again.

I bought 1 savaloy, 1 battered sausage, both of which were excellent. The same however, can't be said for the chips, which tasted as though they were maybe stale, or not cooked properly?! Disappointing and surprised that a fish n chip shop can't supply a decent portion of chips. That needs to be improved.

Very welcoming and friendly staff. The food was just amazing and fresh my favourite was the kebab. So many options to choose from. It’s defiantly going to be my regular go to.

I came across this little cute take away a few weeks ago. Honestly a little gem. Food was fresh and super tasty and the staff was so generous with the amount of food they gave. I’ve definitely found my new take away 100% recommend

Nothing special. In fact I won’t go back again. The chips were really expensive for the large portion I paid for, which were certainly NOT large. Tasteless burger and kebab. Not recommended.

A Kabab served with Rice rather than the Flat bread that was ment to be there. And only authorising a £2.00 refund as the rice can be discarded this can't happen as I have an Allergy to rice so the whole meal was discarded awful service and I certainly won't be eating there until your FOOD HYGIENE STANDARDS ACENCY RATING COMES UP FROM A 1/5.

Brilliant fish & chips, flew back into Stansted and had a hankering for fish and chips. Went by reviews & pics and glad we went. Generous portions, food tasted great and a lovely lady looking after us (and a hidden talent with a bit of singing whilst we made the most of the tables to eat in!!) Clean and tidy inside and close to the motorway so ideal before driving home for us

Visiting from Canada. Had to experience fish and chips from England. This wee place did not disappoint. Very friendly staff The fish and chips were just perfect!! The fish had just the perfect amount of batter (lightly battered unlike what North America does). The chips were cooked to perfection! There was not a drop of grease to be seen and it was made fresh to order! Thank you so much for a wonderful fish and chips meal!

Had a lamb doner wrap fresh salad doner meat not greasy very good tried the 2 in the town this the best one for me even got some seating in there if you fancy eating in.

Bit pricey for food but there is nothing close to there to contend with

Fish and chips, sorry but not good. Soggy batter and dry fish. With reheated, very dry chips, which were not even particularly warm. Pretty awful for a 4.3 rated takeaway.

Since the new lady has taken over the food is absolutely amazing. I have tried so many different things off the menu and have not been disappointed once! From the cod bites, chicken wings and chips, chicken shish with rice served just like in Turkey I must say all delicious. One of my favourites is the Lahmacun which I've only ever been able to get in London. They are all so friendly and attentive even when busy. The new lady is really great and is doing an. OUTSTANDING Job alone with all working there.

The lady was so kind. She explained that there would be a wait as food is cooked fresh. We were treated so nicely with a cup of tea and some amazing Turkish bread while we waited. Very smiley and just kind (rare). Asked us to drop a coin in a wish fountain for her and daughter *as we are travelling. Will definitely do that! Lovely and took the time to chat and make sure we are ok. Will definitely be back when next down Xx

Recently moved into the area and this fish and chips is perfect. Tried a few locally and would highly recommend this place if you can get there. The portions are great, the staff are friendly and the options if you don't fancy fish are there. The falafel wrap is delicious.

I bought medium cod and chips plus a sausage in batter at 9.45 Tonight on the way home from a friend's the sausage was ok the chips were Luke warm and fish was just yuck it obviously had been in the hotplate for some time A waste of £14 won't be buying from there again

What a little neighborhood gem. Stumbled upon this unassuming spot. It is mostly a take away joint but I ate in. Was starving so ordered the large donner platter, SO MUCH FOOD! Huge portion of meat on top of rice, salad and sauces on the side, plus pita bread. Many take away customers ordered the fish/chicken and chips options, but the kebab menu is awesome. Lady behind the counter was so friendly. Gave me a sample of some spiced potato thing while I waited.

Was recommended this place by my son omg what a lil Gemm you can sit in & enjoy tgere fresh food or take away I tryed the chicken shish/lamb Donna combo wow juices yumm & good portion it knocks socks of our regular kebab place for sure will deffo be back there menu is very good with lovly fresh cooked food give it a try you won’t be disapointed.

Friendly family run place, great fish and chips

I travel around the country for work and eat a lot of takeaway food...this has to be up there with one of the best mixed kebabs I've had....served in a sealed box it was still hot when i got to my hotel...gorgeous flatbread too...9.5 out 10!!!!

This place is great! The owner was so friendly and happy. The food was cooked fresh so well worth the wait! Big portions, we had 2 medium cod and shared a large chips between us. They interacted enthusiastically with every customer that came in. We dined in and it was a wonderful atmosphere. Would highly recommend!!

i ordered 4 rock and 3 chips. the portions were massive one piece of fish was like a basking shark. cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic. highly recommend the fish yard

Second visit to Bishops Stortford from Ipswich and to get fish and chips shop excellent fish and chips generous portions of fish and chips.service excellent all staff could not be more helpful great atmosphere having good conversation with all staff. Able to eat in very helpful would recommend to anyone next time in Bishops Stortford not hesitate to get fish and chips from here again.

Busy day so decided on fish and chips. Had 2 regular plaice and one regular chips. Fish was excellent but chips a bit soggy but at £23.90 it won’t be on our regular takeaway list.

Average fish and chips. This place is trying too hard to be good at everything. I would focus on the grill and burgers as those are better than the fish and chips.

All of the people who work here are so nice and friendly, the food is so good and the service is really fast. Definitely my favourite place to go after-school :D

I got a chicken wrap and 1/4 pounder burger with cheese and i have to say i absolutely loved it. service was quick. server was really nice. will definitely be going there more frequently after school :) 10/10 without a doubt

We pre ordered food for 18 people for a family lunch. The Fish Yard were a pleasure to deal with, so helpful and everyone loved the food.

I absolutely hate to say this but after many many years of being a regular fish and chip’s customer on a Tuesday night tonight has to be the worst experience ever had Scampi was soft and outer fell apart and inside so undercooked and mushy The chips have always been the best ever in the area I’m having to give an honest review as I don’t want it to go downhill Hopefully this will be a one off as it’s not a cheap meal these days

I went to The Fish Yard in early October. I bought a doner kebab, a burger and a large chips. The kebab was small and not worth the cost. The burger was tasteless and revolting. Presumably they use the cheapest meat for both. The large chips cost £4.50! They were soft and squidgy and had obviously sat in their oven for too long. I cannot believe The Fish Yard charges £4.50 for a portion of large chips. Other local fish and chip shops charge no more than £3.30 for a large chips, including Churchill's in Stansted. I looked at Rick Stein's menu for his restaurant in Cornwall. Even he charges only £3.95 for chips. See my picture. I cannot recommend The Fish Yard at all, it is a total rip-off for crap food. I won't ever buy from there again. You have been warned, don't waste your money.

Superb food here, the most moist and juicy fish and kebab that was to die for. Super friendly and kind manager too. Well recommended!

£9 for a Doner Wrap, not too bad as they traditionally cost more than a normal kebab as they put more meat in, it’s on the pricy side but don’t mind as meat is better than others, however now they are so stingy with the meat wraps are so thin no meat inside, basically just a tortilla wrap with salad, I actually open it up and had 6 medium strips inside for £9. Was a regular but won’t be back to be ripped off unfortunately . 3 stars as used to be good.

Ordered two takeaway kebabs can honestly say they were the worst kebabs we have ever bought they were like eating rubber , didn't come with proper pitta bread but a piece of flat bread which was dry and hard to cut and the food was cold definitely not worth £12 pounds each ,won't be going back.

I’m not recommended, poor food and quality. I took only chips, it was poor quality, poor packaging and no taste. The sauce was also really bad taste.

After my mum.moving nearby we thought we would give this place a go..well its our gonto now.Freshly cooked . Lovely chips..not like others where you are dished up crispy strips that they call chips.Absolutely delicious.Polite staff .Won't go anywhere else. Keep up the good work.

I visited the Fish yard last night with my children. I was really pleased with the service. The owner showed kindness to a young man with not enough change and i had a lovely chat about business with him. They all seemed to work so hard and the food was large portions and very tasty. I will definitely be returning Customer for life

Really unhappy with what we had. Husband had fish and chips and the fish was ever so thin. Not worth the price. Not seen fish cut like that before. Had burger not worth £5. The chips we got 1 large and one regular to me they looked the same when dished up. So they are charging for large chip but it's the same size as a regular. We also had chicken kebab the chicken was nice full of flavour. Unfortunately with the prices going up it's not a cheap takeaway anymore. Very expensive for what you get. Will not be going back

Had a take out Thursday evening. We tried this shop instead of our usual as we were passing. It's OK. Unfortunately I don't think the fish was fresh but frozen. It was cooked OK. My wife's pie was served in the packaging its delivered in but it was hot. Value wise its OK too. Very mediocre as a take out and cooked to order so a bit of a wait.

Worst kebab I’ve ever had, who knew doner meat could be so tasteless! Kebab was cold and having a bit of salad in a box without any jalapeños and sauce in a pot means you just have one dry plain grim kebab! Had to throw it away. How they won an award is beyond me.

Fabulous fish and chips!! I was amazed as it was even better than the fish snd chips I had in Cornwall from a world famous restaurant. The cod was butterflied and so lush - the batter PERFECT and the fish flaky and juicy. We’ll definitely go back for more!

Changed business name, but the same staff? had recently, not nice at all we didn't eat it! very disappointing & angry we wasted our money! Previously it was lovely had food many times over the years from here, one off or rubbish gone down hill ? we will not know because this is off our take out list.
