A lovely welcoming pub. We were visiting the local area and wanted to watch a football match on Sky Sports. The Scottish lady behind the bar was very friendly and the whole place was inviting. We took our baby and dog and we managed to find a spot just right to accommodate us all with the pram and pooch. The pub was spotless, a very high standard of cleanliness not often seen.

A very traditional pub. We visited the pub 6 pm Saturday evening having booked a table for a steak meal. It was busy with people sat at the bar all chatting and enjoying themselves. As we approached the bar the landlady greated us, using our name, she confirmed we had booked a table. She was friendly while being professional. She showed us to our table at the other side of the pub. Within minutes she had taken our orders and the landlord had brought our drinks over. Our steaks arrived not long after. Wow, what a lovely surprise beautifully presented on a hot stone platter with a salad and chips to die for. The steaks were excellent. Thank you for a lovely meal and atmosphere. If we hadnt already book a table, we would have walked on past this pub. So glad we didn't.

We popped in for a quick pint here and found the place to be friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly we enjoyed seeing people coming in with their dogs after their walk, this is obviously a popular local meeting point. We only had a pint and a half of guiness but they had a good range of beers available. Friendly place with lots of interest including memorabilia from across the decades this pub has obviously been here for a long time and gained a loyal patronage. Something to be cherished these days when pubs are having a hard time in some areas.

Just called in after being away from Meltham for the last 40 years - and surprised to find a fantastic welcome from Timothy Taylor - an old friend. I came in at around 4pm and it was almost empty but still a great pint. I looked up to the ceiling to see if the marks were still there from where we used to make darts out of the silver paper from cig packets and stick them to the roof - happy days I night come back after 6pm to try the steak which you cook yourself for fifteen quid .... Don’t be put off by the fact that this pub is a stereotypical ‘local’. The steaks that are served Thursday to Saturday are incredible! The steak deal, 2 steak and chips served on a hot stone for £30 are the best steaks I’ve ever had. The staff are so so friendly and nothing is any trouble. Don’t expect anything fancy, or a big choice, no starters or deserts, but the steaks are amazing! The fillet, well .......

We thought this was the best pub in Meltham. We were staying in the area and were looking for somewhere for an evening meal and stumbled upon this little gem. Great selection of beers and a gin menu, (try the rhubarb gin). We had steak, salad and chips with a bottle of wine for £25. Bargain, and the best steak I've ever tasted served at your table on a hot lava stone so it's cooked just how you like it. Great atmosphere, loved the music and friendly staff. Well worth a visit, we will be back.

We are not big pub goers but sometimes need a pub in Meltham when friends are visiting, there is not much choice in Meltham and before the Travellers was refurbished we used the Waggon and Horses occassionaly. The landlady is welcoming but the pub is tired and the food is not good, the last time we went was on steak night and the quality of the meat was poor, it's such a shame but there are good eateries in Meltham so not really room for poor pub food. The other issue is, as with many pubs these days, it's always empty so no atmosphere and a pub with no atmosphere is a problem, I feel sorry for the demise of pubs but this is not a place to go for a pub meal. Perhaps if they addressed the quality of the meat issue we might try steak night again but meat with no flavour is pointless.

Called in for a few drinks as we were staying near by. The warmth from the wood burning stove and the warm welcome and atmosphere from the locals were much appreciated. It's a quirky pub with toy memorabilia and nic nacks which adds to the ambiance of the place. It's a dog friendly pub, not that we own a pooch, but met 'Tess' a beautiful 8month old big softie German shepherd and her owner. Really impressed with how chatty and friendly everyone was and every credit to the owners. This place is a little gem. Will definitely call again if we are ever in the area

I have been going to this café for many years, and I was really disappointed with how the personnel and management handled this situation. My six-year-old nephew who was visiting first time had brought food from an alternative takeaway because he only eats chicken. We had been seated at a table and had ordered our whilst waiting on our order in the cafe we had got the food out to feed my autistic nephew this woman came quite rudely, suddenly and almost yelled at us, telling us that he was not permitted to eat food from other takeaway orders in their café. The woman was then informed that the child has autism, that we and that he typically only eats chicken. Then she turned back and added, "We have halal chicken." We then continued to explain we are aware but he will only eat chicken nuggets and then proceeded to say "Well I can't be going to Nando's and then taking McDonald's with me, can I?" There was a furious altercation, and the owner emerged from behind the counter without asking us if we were okay or if we needed anything. I didn't enquire about the specifics of the case; it was just, "But I can't deal with this," as if it were too much to handle. As an owner, you can't handle a complaint. Even when you are unable to manage your own employees, you still expect customers to visit your establishment. I believe that this was discrimination against children with impairments because some of them are invisible, and I did not anticipate this from the café I used to frequent attend. I would never, ever return to this café because if your employees are going to be impolite and your management is unable to handle it, then what type of management do you have throughout the entire establishment? I believe that their employees need additional training, and perhaps the manager could step up and take care of her own training.
