This is by far the Best India for miles. Food is great in everyway. We won't go anywhere else. Amazing

For years we've driven past and said "one day". That day came yesterday, a Thursday night. The restaurant was surprisingly busy. The decor is crisp and clean, there's plenty of attention to detail. Service was on point, and the food was excellent and tasty. I couldn't say a bad word. So pleased we finally visited. We won't leave it so long next time.

I held my wedding party at this fabulous venue surrounded by beautiful Essex countryside. The food and service were absolutely amazing and all the guests—around 60 people, were full of praise for their food from starters to the mains and dessert. Highly recommend it as a party venue or for casual dining out, away from the din of city life. The venue has ample parking space as well.

We’re writing this review as we think they should and would like to know. We have been going to the Vojan and having takeaways from there for 19 years and have always recommended. We had a takeaway this evening (17/11/23) and it was not up to the usual standard, unfortunately. The onion bhajis were not cooked enough, the Nan bread was hard. The dishes were running with grease and the chicken pieces in both the dishes were cut up very small and the taste of both dishes was not very good.

Amazing food and ambiance! Satisfied my Indian cravings while I was visiting UK for a wedding! The food was absolutely delicious.

By far the most amazing Indian food. Lovely atmosphere always. Waiters who always make you feel so welcome and never had a bad meal here I go quite often Its definately worth a visit and guaranteed a very enjoyable evening

I come here as my partner likes it but for me a vegetarian it is not the best at all. Vegetable masala is practically white cabbage with about 5 mini mushrooms in and half a potato. The sauce is edible, with the special fried rice is good so at least I don’t go home hungry. Carrots, peas and more potato please!!!!!!

I understand that £30 doesn’t mean too much to many people. For me, I don’t often order takeaway, so it’s a lot of money. I placed my order 2 hours before in anticipation. It was New Years Eve and I expected it to be busy. Arrived half an hour late, after calling to remind. No apology, very disappointed. Guess the small guys aren’t important perhaps? 😢

Just had a takeaway from this restaurant and after having many disappointing India meals in the area this was a real pleasure ingredients ,balance an excellent British Indian food serving ,will most certainly visit for a meal and hope to enjoy the same quality dining in . Paul

Sharon and family party, we had a lovely Sunday buffet, so much food, so tasty and well presented, staff where so attentive, and friendly, every dish was enjoyable , plenty of food for a group of 14 and offered more, such a lovely relaxing atmosphere, thank you so much for your lovely service and food x

We arrived waited to be seated The noise from the disco polluted most of the restaurant The food was bland and tasteless lacking many of the basic Indian spices The cauliflower bhajee in particular was watery and tasteless. The service was patchy. We will not be returning. More a restaurant for coach parties and stag do's than fine dining

Great food, great atmosphere. With so many Indian restaurants around its hard to find one that stands out from the crowd. They manage that here, the food is plentiful and extremely tasty. We will definitely be back.

The Vojan used to be one of our favourite Indian Restaurants but the last couple of times we have been there we have noticed that it's gone downhill. The friendly staff that we used to see are no longer there and now it's not as welcoming and friendly as it used to be. The food is average and not as good now so don't think we will be making the trip there again, such a shame.

I wouldn’t normally bother to post a review for a takeaway curry but this was so disappointing I decided to make an exception. When I arrived to collect the order they couldn’t find any record of it at first and I was then kept waiting 10 minutes despite being told several times the food was ready and was just being put in the bag. So I suspect they didn’t start cooking it until I arrived. The food itself was pretty poor. My main dish and the Bombay potatoes needed salt added (I never normally add salt to curry). The broccoli in the broccoli bhaji tasted burnt - because it was. The garlic rice had so much raw onion in it that it was inedible. The portions of rice and veg were much smaller than we’re used to from where we normally get takeaways (Rajmoni in Brentwood - highly recommended) despite costing more. Overall verdict: poor value, poor food, and poor service.

Really annoyed about this . My order was expected in an hour and came 1 hour and 45 mins in total 45 mins late which was at 9:45pm which is far to late to eat . When the order came it was cold so I had to heat it up The lamb chops were also flavourless. I always order from vojans and have been there several times but will not be going back or ordering after the service I have received . Not only did all this happen I am still waiting for my refund for the meal a month later and still not received it! I have been calling almost every day and they said they would but havnt. If you can’t take or orders because you are busy don’t accept them !

Naan was raw, Garlic Naan was raw. Chicken Shashlik was reheated and onions and tomatoes were completely raw. Chicken Korma was lumpy and overdone. Chicken chewy and grissly. Far too many cardamom pods made it inedible. Won't be using this again, there's far nicer curry...

Had Vojan takeaway last night, as I'm new to the area I've been having a few different things to see which is best. The Vojan did not disappoint! VERY good food, you could tell it was all cooked fresh and the chicken was amazing. I had the Murghi Masala which is a dish I've never had before and it was lovely! New address post code wasn't recognised so had a polite call from the restaurant and delivery driver who asked for directions, food came quickly after that. Will be back :)

I have just come back from a meal over there. This was my first time but it won’t be the last. The waiters were very attentive. The food was delicious and the cherry on the cake was the Jazz music in the background. I have not given a full mark as in my opinion the menu should have a Jalfrezi section.

Me and 4 friends went to the Vojan on Saturday evening of the 04/05/2019. When we arrived we were seated and left for about 10 minutes before we finally managed to get a drink order. It was another 25 minutes before we were able to put our food order in. Then we had to wait 1 hour and 30 minutes before we even got any food delivered, we only had 2 drinks at this point. The starter was a plate of salad, exactly the same for everyone and then the starter arrived on sizzling plates, they took our already served up salad and placed everyone's side on the plate leaving half of what was on the sizzling plates taking them away. The main arrived after another 30 minutes. The entire time we were not told of any delays and no apology was made. We even got a huff from the waiter when we decided to pay on more than one card. None of us will be visiting the Vojan again and will be telling people of my experience in the restaurant. Maybe stick with the takeaway, the food was OK.

Normally use a high quality local competitor in North Weald for my weekend takeaway . Friends advised me Vojan had improved and offered local delivery. 45 mins late . Over cooked . Two curries utterly tasteless and indistinguishable from each other which makes me think probably same base curry . I know the other curry house in Ongar are bad but this was just slop . At around £40 it is verging on criminal. Tempted to go there and ask for my money back.

Food was quite nice, DJ was one of the waiters and music wasn’t great. When we got the bill there was scribble all over it and it seemed very pricey. Queried it with the waiter, but couldn’t really get to the bottom of what was on the bill. Wouldn’t go back

Visited several times, and note they add on to the menu prices when writing your order or counting your bill, this has happened every time we visit, when you bring it to there attention, they used to correct the bill, now they bring another menu that is higher priced than the original, and claim the new priced menus are not available yet, very sneaky!!therefore, without a doubt the increased prices are deliberate,

Visited Vogan with a large party which was at 7:30pm. We had the set menu which you don’t even get to pick what you want, they just give you what they want (the cheapest stuff on the menu.) So bearing in mind we did not need to even order, the starters arrived at our table at 20:40 and consisted of a greasy not even sure what the meat was Samosa, an onion bajji and tandoori chicken and lamb. Mains arrived at 21:15 which consisted of the cheap classics - chicken korma, chicken balti, masala etc, the chicken was foul, chewy and sauces full of too much salt and no other taste, just about got away with the chicken shaslic and rice. They had another big party too and the usual restaurant diners plus take aways so clearly doing their best to squeeze as much in and no care about the quality or care for their customers. They plonked a dj behind our table bizarrely so it was hard to hear yourself talk. Drink measures are free poured so they do their best to give you a measly amount of spirit, why not just do it the fair way and use a measure?? Dessert summed it all up, ice cream plonked on a plate left to just sit there and melt, see photo to believe what you are reading!

Visited here and enjoyed the different style of curries on offer. Unfortunately when the bill came the 'same' wine we ordered were a different price. Pretty disappointing

The curry here is very good and have to say it’s one of the best I’ve visited. The portions are wonderful. We normally get takeout and have never been disappointed.

Upon arrival felt unwelcome with a frosty atmosphere. There weren't many customers so couldn't understand why staff so unfriendly and not attentive one bit. Ordered food, when order arrived, which was supposed to be for vegetarians, which waiter was aware, meat was served. When we advised, no apology just told to wait. When the food was served it was burnt chunk of brocolli with a mass of onion. Served with a flat watery Diet Coke. Main dish just slosh with no accompaniments. 1 bread to share between 2 people when you are paying £15 per person for the buffet. Never once were we asked how the meal was, felt totally ripped off when bill arrived. Shame as you have a lovely location, this is why we have visited and thought we would return, by giving it another try, but nothing has changed.

Incredible restaurant have been going in vojan for some years now and I can say it is the best Indian restaurant by far with impeccable service,staff,food and a really chilled out vibe!-I love eating in there,always have a good night without doubt

Visited with the family for my birthday. As usual the service and food were excellent. Even though the restaurant was full it did not affect the level of service. Food was delicious. Can’t wait to go back

Went as a group of 13. Was first shown to wrong table and then reseated at a round table which was actually better. Was really busy so service did seem a little chaotic at times. The atmosphere was nice and the food I would say was of average quality but the menu does include some interesting dishes.

We had different selections and enjoyed them all, the quality of the food, the ambience and the service were all very good. The price was a little high but worth it.

We recently had a home delivery service which was much appreciated . First time I’ve used the Vojan for takeaway and it was lovely. I always rate an Indian restaurant by the quality of their dhansak and have to say it was good , good chicken, good thick sauce, good spices , temperature was perfect. And with that in mind we are going to book a table with some friends very soon. I may well come back and give five stars ! It was difficult to do as I haven’t eaten there as yet .

Had heard lots of good reviews however we were very disappointed...food was very average and cold...service was slow..not a good experience.

We visited in June and had a fantastic meal - not just the food but also the service and the ambiance. My husband does not eat Indian food and has never been in an Indian restaurant as he is unwell when subjected to a strong cooking smell linked to Indian food however he not only enjoyed the meal but he also had a mild Indian dish and has suggested we go back. Already looking forward to our return.

This restaurant is situated along a winding road along the Ongar Road, just outside Chelmsford which you could easily miss because there is no sign when approaching from the Chelmsford side. Travelling from the Harlow side is ok because the sign can be seen in time to make the turn. Beware, this is a rather fast road which is used by lorries so be careful. I don't understand why the owners can't see the problem. There is plenty of parking which is good. I went on a Saturday evening early, which is better than late because it gets busy. We ordered a set meal for 2 and were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The staff didn't keep buzzing around the table asking if we were enjoying our meal, which is usually a way of getting you to tip more.We liked the fact that we were served by different waiters, rather than a specific one and I don't recall that there was a service charge.We will certainly return. Be warned though, we all know that Indian food is spicy and that means that smells really cling to clothes, so be prepared to leave clothes on the line when you return home. A really pleasant restaurant that the family will enjoy along with the food because there is plenty of space for seating.

Every visit to Vojan is certainly worth it! The venue is simply exquisite. I refer to it as 'Paradise in an oasis'. The food is simply outstanding - with the diner being spoilt beyond measure for choice.On a Friday or Saturday night, you need your dancing shoes on, as the music won't permit you to remain seated at your table for long. You'll find your body swaying & rocking to the beats, till you dance your way over towards the music.As for the staff, they've humour, they're kind, attentive, professional & make great recommendations on the food & wine.Vojan is a place for the family, groups of friends or anyone who appreciates excellent food.Well worth the travel from anywhere to undergo the Vojan experience. Wow!!!

There was nine of us had a lovely meal. They do two for £25 which is plenty. You get a starter, a main meal, and a rice between two. Also a bread. The only thing you have to be careful of is the drinks. The staff are really helpful and pleasant might have to go there for. My birthday.

Wonderful food as always. We used to come here regularly , but haven't been for a while as it's not local for us , but food and service as good as it always was . It's definitely work I visit . It good to see the owner there and helping out with drinks orders

Just had a really lovely Sunday Buffet, warmly welcomed by Sharif, the meal was huge, delicious and very tasty. Nothing was too much trouble with a choice of rice and Nan bread to our requests. The Samosas could have been cooked slightly longer (but I'm not picking now) as the chicken and lamb dishes were cooked to perfection.When we left, the restaurant was getting busy yet Sharif still had time to say good bye and thank us for our custom.When I last ate here in February, I complained about the poor front of house staff perception, I can honestly say, this time it was much better. Thank you all at the Vojan, we will return again.

Well what can I say . 1st time here and the food was great , the service was a little poor and unitentive staff , had to ask for drinks , ask to order food , my biggest issue was the cooking fumes/smoke around the restaurant and it was really quite overpowereing , some ventilation is needed as it kind off has put me off returning , could see a cloud as we walked in , other people actually where coughing as it was overpowering , but the food was very nice just needs a few small changes

Popped in here on the off chance when passing throu, the food was fantastic, and the service was great, would defiantly come back, we visited on a friday night , the restaurant was busy but you didnt feel ontop off other diners,

I like curries and have eaten in many good and bad restaurants.It is sometimes difficult to find a good one, however I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food at the Vojan.We went here with a fairly large party on Bank Holiday Monday and arrived quite early. Therefore the restaurant was all but empty.The waiter took our drinks orders and although we all got them, it took about 4 visits for them to bring out the different orders. Almost forgetting the tap water.Starters:I elected the onion Bhajis that were nice but maybe a little too heavy on the garlic. My good lady went to the Mulligatawny soup that also had a little too much garlic.Our other guests went tot he Aubergines with cheese that they all seemed to enjoy.Mains:I went to the Chicken Jalfriezy - it had just the right amount of heat (until I ate one of the chillies) but lacked enough chicken pieces.No Deserts but coffee, again there were a lot of different orders from plain coffee to Irish coffee and they all came out at different times - again, a prompt about the forgotten plain coffee's.Having read others comments on here it appears that the food is quite good but the service needs a lot to be desired.This could be so much more if they could get that bit right.Only given it an average rating as it could do better.

We came here on the spur of the moment and had no problems getting a table and poppadums were served immediately. We didn't have a bad meal here, but it was just okay, food was okay, service was okay, bill was okay. Nothing stand out here at all.

Been coming here for many years. Food has improved and nice staff who do a great job. Lamb biryani was very tasty and king prawn purée starter was as nice. Ample car parking space and food is average price. The owner Mumin always comes and acknowledges our visit. See you soon all.

Having spent many a visit to this establishment, I thought it was about time I posted an un-biased review. Everything about this Restaurant is quality. I was last there 3 days ago with my wife and a couple of friends. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service and food were second to none. It can be seen that the owner Mumin runs a well organised set up and his staff are respectful and attentive to everyone. They have an excellent chef with support staff who turn out amazing food. This is a fantastic venue for couples, family and special functions. Will be back soon.

We came early evening around 7pm and the restaurant was only about 1/3 full, but even then we had to wait some time in the lobby while staff buzzed around without greeting us, some even making eye contact but not saying anything. After a few minutes though someone came up and we guessed we should follow them. Poppadoms came very quickly, but but the waiters didn't seem too bothered about selling us drinks, which is odd because they're good margin items for a restaurant. Same as other reviewers I was surprised they only had Fosters on draught, especially bearing in mind the size of the restaurant. I asked for a Cobra and got a standard size 330ml bottle and what looked like a small flower vase. Why not sell me a large bottle? That's what other Indian restaurants generally do. Our food order was taken after a while, but overall there was definitely too much waiting, and the food was very good. In fact, let's be honest, the food was excellent. We're huge curry fans and very picky. So why only 2 stars? Here's the problem - the staff seem to have completely forgotten that they are serving PEOPLE!No eye contact, no interaction, glum faces, food plonked down, plates taken away in silence, no friendly questions like 'is everything ok' or 'how was your meal'. Very weird, it was like they were running a production line under duress and that the diners were simply in the way. Such a shame, service is the last piece of the jigsaw but unfortunately meant that it all falls apart and becomes a poor experience. It's back to the Raj in Epping for us, where the food is equally excellent but also has good service.If they can sharpen up we'll be back to eat in, but otherwise we'll stick to takeaways.

I have been coming here for years. I have never ever ever had a bad meal here and I go here a lot! Love that they now do take away deliveries too! Beautiful Cooked good, great drinks and lovely attentive staff. Only thing I would say is there should be a larger choice when it comes to the dessert menu as it is mainly just ice creams. Came here for a friends birthday. There was 17 of us in total. Before the day of the meal we rung up the restaurant to be told we had to have a set menu! We refused that and got told we would all have to have a main course and could share the rice and side... Fine! When we got to the vojan we sat down... Order some drinks from the bar, the waiter brought up some poppadums... 2 HOURS LATER... We approached more than one waiter about ordering some food as we were all starving at this point! We got told we would have to wait as we're not ordering of the set menu! WAIT!! WEVE ALREADY WAITED 2 HOURS!!! At this time i went to speak to the owner (who ignored me twice) to ask what was going on. Finally he came and took our order! After 3 hours we got our food!!! The food was nice... But after such a long wait anything would be nice! We were starving!! We didn't get any apologies for the food taking so long... I've had many takeaways from this restaurant but never will I be returning to eat inside!!! Such a shame!!!!!!

20 of us walked out after 40 minutes; service was so bad -- sat down after 20mins (their error on booking) and no drinks offered at anytime we were waiting, set menu very poor and told we couldn't have a la carte as it would take a long time!!!!. Went to Cinnamon North Weald- 1000% better, brilliant ambience, friendly staff and great (a la carte) food .Wont be returning to Vojan .........ever!

We called in for a curry last Thursday. The food was good, the service was fine. We were quite early, so it wasn't very busy. Overall it was a pretty good experience.

There were 19 of us, and they expected us to sit on 2 different tables. After some discussion, they asked some other people to move and pushed tables together to make one big one for us. They told us we needed to order from set menu otherwise it would take too long from a la carte menu, we then sat for 45 mins and our drinks didn't even arrive. In the end we walked out and went to our trusted Indian in our village. We will not be coming back!! Shame on you Vojan!

We were a party of 15 people booked a month ago. The first impression when we arrived was chaotic, The entrance was crammed with people with no one helping them.We eventually got our table and then waited 20 minuets to get a drink, and then about an hour before they took our order. It just seemed that they couldn't cope with the people in the restaurant. One table of about 12 next to us simply got up and walked out, without even eating anything. Just fed up with the service. I certainly wont be going back again.Very limited choice of beers for the men.The food, when it did arrive seemed quite nice, but the rest of the experience had spoiled it by then.They should stop cramming people in and concentrate on looking after fewer people, as any good place should do.

We had a nice time after a long day at this cuisine. Nice atmosphere and staff. The food was good and so was the service. The wait was not long.

We've been to this restaurant several times and havong read some of the recent reviews felt we had to add a review too, as the food was excellent and our service was very good.Unlike almose every other time I go to an Indian, I tried somehtign different, a Nepal King Prawn curry which was delicious - not too spicy but very tasty!It's quite a way from wheer w elive but def worth the effort to got here and will certainly be going back again soon.

Arrived, no into, I had to ask to be seated, no one took the drink order for 20 mins, starters took over an hour to arrive. No attention at all, drinks ran out no eye contact at all, waiter looked at empty glasses on the way past, said nothing and walked off and didn't come back. Food eventually arrived. As always the meal was excellent. Shame about the service. 3 people £95 bill, overall sadly not worth it

I went here last night with my partner.We walked in & was greeted frosty, when we asked for a table of 2 the man just pointed at a seat in the waiting area & walked off.We were shown to our table by a man that wouldn't look us in the eye & God for bid he smile!!Eye contact was a big issue in this restaurant for some reason?!We asked for more dip & after waiting 7 to 8 mins we asked again which also took 5 mins to come which was annoying as we could see the dips were only on the bar behind us.Our starter came, again no smile from ANYONE.Our empty plates sat in front of us some time before being cleared, no one asked if everything was ok.Mains come & again the service was shocking!We felt we had walked into someone's front room & invaded them!Very unwelcoming & the food was nice but the shocking service has made sure we won't return again!!The only time the wait was hanging around was when we wanted to check to bill which was very uncomfortable & he may as well if snatched it out of our hands!Awful customer service & the owner was there so I dread to think what it's like when his not!

On arrival we were met by an East European man with a large curry stain on his shirt. No apron or waistcoat, just a shirt and jeans with a bow tie. We had the Sunday Buffet and there was plenty of food for the six of us and granted he only served us drinks but it still played on my mind that he hadn't changed his shirt after spilling someone elses food. He told us that they'd had a very busy Saturday night and it seemed he hadn't had time to rest or change his attire from the previous shift.My perception is this place may have glowing reviews but why hadn't the duty manager ensured his staff were clean and presentable to his customers? If this is how front of house staff ate allowed to meet and greet their customers, what are the kitchens like?We won't be back.

Best curry around by a long way amazing restaurant lovely clean comfortable nice tables fresh food with a top service lovely place to go on a Sunday night with relaxing atmosphere for couples or family really impressive tandoori mix grill was so good nan was to mushroom rice amazing this is a must for curry lovers.
