Came for the Monday buffet, food was delicious and fresh, second time here and not a bad word to say. The staff are very helpful with what to choose if you’re unsure about the flavours, very helpful and friendly.

Very good service. Offered to customise my meal to make it vegan and also gave complimentary drinks. Only thing I would improve is to add main/classic meals which are already vegan (or can be made vegan) so customers would already know what is available to them. Otherwise really nice!

Had a lovely meal at Shuhag a few evenings ago. Was just walking around and was greeted by Naim, the owner, who began chatting with me and asking about my background. I was entranced by Naim’s storytelling about the history of the restaurant and his family’s personal connections and passion for traditional Indian cooking. It has been many years since I’ve met someone with the tenacity and voraciousness that Naim possesses, and his energy was magnetic. While the story was heartwarming, it was the food that sealed the deal for me. Every dish was cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of spice for my palette. I enjoyed every bite, as well as the tea and dessert following my meal. The ambience of the restaurant, the friendliness of the staff, and the delicious food transformed this serendipitous experience into an experience I know I will be repeating time and time again. 10/10 Shuhag, and 10/10 Naim!

My family and I had a wonderful night at The Shuhag this evening. Honestly we couldn’t have wanted for anything more. The staff were so attentive. Our waiter offered us various options that he thought we’d like based on what we chose for the menu. Something came out a bit too spicy for my Dad and he instantly offered to bring another option with less spice which was spot on. He left the spicier version for us to try. It was delicious, a wrap with beautiful pastry. We look forward to trying out some of the street food the restaurant is soon introducing. Some is already available but we weren’t pressured to do try it this time. It was all so easy going. We were given a complimentary bottle of wine to take away with us as we were too full for teas or coffees. And we were bought extra poppadoms with our mains for no extra charge. The waiter explained that the reason the menu is so reasonably priced is because having owned the building for many years they don’t have massive overheads so can afford to treat their customers without charging over the odds. They use local produce. The food was quality and tasty and plenty of it. I love the traditional atmosphere of the restaurant. Would highly recommend to anyone, whatever the occasion!

Owner, Naim, welcomed us in from the street and treated us very warmly. He made recommendations, which we accepted gratefully and which were very tasty. We chose dishes from across the spectrum of spice, sweetness and acidity. All were distinct and satisfied us no end!

I am not an expert on Indian food but we had a lovely evening at the Shuhag. It was quite quiet for a Saturday evening but that meant we got the most attentive and friendly service. The menu was extensive and they couldn't have been more helpful with my food allergy. Very reasonably priced and good portions. We had a lovely chat with the owner and felt like old friends by the time we left. Definitely worth a visit.

Great experience, food was amazing, I recommend the naga curry for those who are will to feel the heat. Definitely will be making this my regular stop for a curry.

Spent £38 for take away. No salad given. Normally I get salad with all Indian take aways. Chicken tikka masala was like korma. Prawn Saag was awful. 7 years ago was amazing but I guess cooks have changed. Let down.

Seriously enjoyed the food and was mightily impressed with Naim for his professional insight and assistance with helping me choose a banquet dinner for my wife's birthday! The free bottle of plonk was also very pleasant.

This was my first time visiting Waltham Abbey and we came across this restaurant. Naim the owner, came outside the restaurant, introduced himself and was very helpful in telling us about Waltham Abbey along with suggestions on places to see and the history of the area. We ended up eating at this restaurant and the food was so great! We ordered Tandoori King Prawns, Lamb biryani and Chicken wings which were amazing. The service was excellent! Naim himself came over several times to ensure that we were happy with the food. The prices were very reasonable as well. Overall, this was a great experience and I would highly recommend this restaurant!!

We went for the Monday night banquet while on holiday for my birthday and it did not disappoint. Absolute fantastic Indian meal, every dish was amazing, atmosphere was great as was the service. I officially vote it as my number 1 best Indian ever! Great value for money.

The food was amazing had loads of flavour. I had a chicken rogan beautiful. Staff was friendly and polite. Would definitely recommend and I would 100% come back.

Went to The Shuhag for the first time in a few years. The new owner is lovely and I'm really glad that the restaurant is still in the same family after being opened by his father in law 52 years ago. Anyway went for a friends birthday and we had a lovely evening. The food was beautiful and really tasty. We honestly couldn't of been looked after any better. I'm really looking forward to going back again.

Met the lovely people who own this place (2nd generation family owned since 1972), amazing food and such generous service and such good value for money. Fabulously delicious food at very reasonable prices. Probably the best Dupiaza I have ever tasted! The staff were extremely friendly and polite. The restaurant has such a great atmosphere, thanks to the superbly kept historical building and tasteful decor. Great place for a special night out and so reasonably priced. Great food, friendly service, waiter happy to provide suggestions for starters and sides. Only advise is the stairs are quite narrow and steep if your a little on the frail side. Would eat here again.

This restaurant never fails to deliver (pardon the pun). Food is always top notch, service excellent and Naim is so on the ball and polite so I never use anywhere else. Can't recommend highly enough.

Ate here for my brothers 17th birthday with six people. The service was great as they gave him a free desert and played music for him. Overall great experience and will definitely come back due to it being local for us 👍

After an intense game of badminton, we made our way to the Shuhag restaurant. Customer service was really impressive, the food delicious and the place was comfortable. The only let down for us was it was cold and we had to keep our coats on. We were informed it's a listed building and they had not wanted to alter anything.

We enjoyed a family celebration for my sons 17th birthday! The service was outstanding, couldn’t have done enough for us. Food was superb and the staff are extremely friendly. Can’t wait to return.

One of the best Indian food restaurants in the Abbey. Everything is always very clean, the staff are friendly and attentive, even if you are getting a takeaway. The portions are a good size and everything is made from fresh, hence it can take some time. But well worth the wait.
