I really enjoy eating at the Vine and Spice , Ive probably eaten here about 7 times over the years, mostly with groups of friends. I haven’t found a better curry house in south Oxfordshire and can depend on this place to serve a decent curry . Beer selection can sometimes disappoint but its the quality of the food that matters to me.

Stayed in a nearby B&B and booked online for a table later that evening. Confirmed booking was prompt. Good menu with plenty of variety but maybe a little on the expensive side. Service was good and the building/decor is a pleasant place to eat. We both enjoyed our starters but felt the mains didn't quite deliver – but judging by the other reviews, maybe we just didn't choose the right dishes.

Excellent meal out with friends. The food is not like the usual Indian restaurant fare. This was presented to a high standard especially the starter. The service would have five stars but the waiter was either junior and/or inexperienced and he dropped cutlery and was unclear as to what complementary drinks were being offered. Apart from this small criticism the evening was an excellent experience and we would definitely eat here again.

After looking up the reviews I decided to go to vine and spice and I was not disappointed. The service and food was second to none, I would go as far as to say that its the best Indian food I've had in the UK. Even though we hadn't booked we were offered a beautiful outside seating pod which was very comfy. I had a vegetable biryani that was a huge bowl of vegetable rice ( butternut squash courgette sugarshap pea cauliflower broccoli and fresh herbs ) covered in the naan bread baked in a tandoori oven with an exquisite curry and a bowl of raitha. My partner had a rasooni mirch murgh which was recommended by the waiter and was not disappointed the flavour was incredible. The portions are very generous the rice part of the biryani was enough for 3 people! I can safety say that its money well spent on a wonderful meal with excellent service.

Amazing high end restaurant serving Indian dishes. We had the set three courses and it was more than enough, in fact the food was amazing, full of flavour. This option had either mild to medium spice or medium to hot. We had the first option and the flavour was amazing. Bread and rice finished off the dishes well. Not one to have a dessert after an I Dian meal but this was a nice end to the meal. The staff are great and friendly.

We visited here recently and were drawn by the beautiful looking restaurant next to a country road. There is parking onsite which is handy :) Once inside its very cosy with a bar and some seating, with more of a restaurant setting at the back. We sat at the front and had some papadom with a great selection of dips and a vegetable starter, which was quite nice, though the bhaji seemed a bit burnt. For the main, we both ordered a paneer dish, I had a paneer tikka, and my partner had paneer Dupiaza. The Dupiaza tasted good, but the paneer tikka was quite tomatoey and unlike any tikka I'd had. We also both found the paneer to be a bit under cooked. So overall, there were definitely some tasty dishes, but some elements missed the mark. It was quite expensive too. Might be worth trying if you're in the area but wouldn't go out of your way to visit.

Chicken Tikka, Rogan Josh and lamb balti are on the menu here but in the bottom left hand corner. Placed in such a way that suggests you don’t come here for those dishes. Because the rest of the vast menu has multiple beef curries, fish curries, vegetable curries that all offer something very different to try. Seriously the choice is stunning. I had the Goan fish curry which was smooth full of flavour and perfectly spiced. All on our table of 4 were impressed by the dishes they had one of which were anything we’d tried before. The service was great, relaxed and no pressure to leave once you’d finished. Highly recommend this place it’s nothing like a typical curry house. It’s refreshingly different.

Had to wait 30 minutes beyond scheduled ready time. No apology until after 20 minutes, with other customers coming and going. Eventually offered a free drink while I waited only for staff to find out they'd run out of alcohol-free beer (I was driving). Eventually got meal home (10 minute drive) to find it mainly tepid, and with my chicken based main dish supplied as vegetable version instead. By this time, of course, taking it back was not a practical option. Until recently this establishment enjoyed a good reputation - in recent months it has gone rapidly downhill.

I initially booked on a Thursday for two of us at 6:30pm the following Saturday. Later in the day I called back to increase the amount of people to four as friends said they would like to join us. I was told that they could be accommodated but the restaurant would need the table back by 8pm in order to fit another booking in. I said that would be absolutely fine as we would easily finish by then.We arrived a little early and were shown to our table and offered poppadoms and drinks. All good.We were served by various members of staff. At 7pm a waiter took our order and I was already looking at my watch wondering if they could get us sorted by 8pm. We said we would have starters as sides (onion bhaji's etc). The waiter looked a bit frustrated and said "chef is quite busy". Not really sure why I was told this, it's a Saturday night and we're in an Indian restaurant - I wouldn't expect the chef to be anything but busy!Another waiter kept the drinks flowing while we waited, although we were one beer short as I was told there weren't enough cold ones ready to be served. My friend was also told there was no beer on draught despite there being a full bar downstairs, utterly bizarre.By 7:45 the food still hadn't arrived but the table of six people next to us who had arrived after us were being served, that really annoyed me and alarm bells started ringing. We complained and were told it would be five more minutes. For a place that needed the table back by 8pm, they weren't doing that well. We'd have to go some to eat our entire meal in 10 minutes! The food arrived at 7:50pm and to be fair it was really really good. Lovely quality and taste. All guests in our party agreed it was exceptional food.Obviously we didn't vacate the table by 8pm, the fact that they needed the table back was never mentioned. We got the bill and I complained about the service. They had already put a service charge on the bill. I was told I had to go to the bar downstairs to pay on the way out - do they not have card readers that could be brought to the table like virtually EVERY other restaurant in Britain? There was no attempt by the staff to take the service charge off despite my already having complained so I told the person taking my money I wouldn't be paying it. I told him the food was amazing but seriously let down by the service. He took the charge off and a further small amount as he could see I wasn't happy.I asked to speak to the manager but was told he was at home in Bangladesh! The overall experience was not good here. Yes it was busy but it's a Saturday night. The staff seemed totally out of their depth. If you cannot cope with a full restaurant then don't accept so many covers. This restaurant was not well managed this evening and I would suggest the manager needs to be in attendance not in Bangladesh. This needs to be brought to his attention as it is unacceptable.A real disappointment tonight as it could have been so good.

We visited The Vine and Spice after having it recommended to us by a friend. We arrived for our 8:30pm table at 8:20pm, the table wasn’t ready, which we expected! We were seated in the bar and not offered a drink until 8:40pm, after 20 minutes of sitting. We were taken to our table at 9pm and didn’t finish up until 10:30, the restaurant was busy but we weren’t ever informed of a time of wait for how our pod was doing, we are always more than happy to wait and understand that at busy times things take longer but a little communication would have gone a long way. Our drinks were also not topped up, we had to ask for another. We got poppadoms at the beginning of the meal which were great, the sauces were excellent and clearly made fresh. We got the sharing platter to start, which was average at best. Then followed by 2 curries, a mushroom rice, and naan. The curries were described as spicy but had a mild spice to them, so if you want spicy it might be worth asking for extra spice, they were flavourful and the sauce was nice. I however, wasn’t overly hungry by the time the mains came, I had one piece of chicken from my curry and boxed up the rest. I got it home to discover that the large bits of chicken were undercooked and still pink!! The staff were lovely but the overall experience was average.

I was recently lucky enough to win a take-away meal for 2 from this restaurant. Now that could be seen a a bribe to write an amazing review couldn't it? It was my first time eating from here, although I have always wanted to try it as I have heard so many amazing things, so, being as it was a free meal I asked the manager to advise on what to pick from the menu. Chutneys / dips and poppadoms - a great choice of dips and chutneys, I had my favourites but there was something to please everyone in the selection and the poppadoms were flavoured and crispy!Saag Aloo - delicious and well cooked with a good flavourFor the main courses we had a Chicken Kurai and a Chicken Green Masala. The first dish was a medium heat and strongly flavoured, the second was creamy and Mild. I would recommend both of these dishes although would say that you shouldn't be put off buy the colour of the Green Masala. I shared this prize with my mum and my 10 year old son and with 2 portions of Pilau Rice, there was easily enough food in this order to feed us all well - the chunks of chicken in both dishes were pretty substantial We will certainly be booking a visit to the dining pods in the near future to sample more of this really well cooked and this will definitely be my new Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant of choice in the area!Don't know why it took this long for me to have this experience, but it really didn't disappoint in any way. I would say, that this business is clearly set up for an eat in experience, which may explain the cost of £5 for a home delivery. I love the food here but on this occasion my concern was about safety. Staff who wore masks wore them under the chin, no doubt to catch sweat, but not intended to catch viral particles. Some didn't even bother with masks or with gloves. It left us worried about hygiene in the kitchen. Two metres distance between tables? No! The tables may be two metres apart but the chairs between? One had to make definite moves to keep a safe distance. The staff did not bother with the two metre rule at all. Thank goodness there was a bottle of alcohol gel accessible - not hands-free but at least we were the first to use it! Has anyone heard of Covid in this place?I have been to several restaurants during Covid and I can say that this one shows no respect for the virus nor for the customer who may be vulnerable. Definitely a restaurant for the foolhardy and the young. Thank God the incidence of Covid is low in this area!

Mains arrived – Balti and other main were good, also ordered potatoes as a side but this came very late and when it did the potatoes were raw – hardly cooked. Asked for another and it finally arrived after we had finished our mains. Some of what we had was excellent and others were either raw or cremated. Plenty of staff running around but I would not call the service attentive. It took 3 attempts to find someone who understood us the explain about the raw potatoes. Went here for a mid-week meal with friends as we hadn't been before and heard good things about the food. Unfortunately it didn't get off to a good start as when the waiter offered to make some suggestions he opened with "For the men, I recommend...". I pointed out that I could probably also eat everything the men could, to which he laughed and said that they would be too spicy for me. Now I'm all for having a laugh with customers, but this was a bit much given we had only been there 5 minutes and I made it clear I didn't find it very funny. This continued throughout the meal, at one point I was told he "felt sorry for me living in Didcot" and that my friend was stupid for getting one ingredient of the dish wrong. I honestly think the waiter thought he was having a laugh with us but really it just came across as rude and way off-mark. Perhaps he felt bad afterwards as we were all offered a free drink at the end of the meal!On a positive note the food was nice and there was a good variety of options on the menu. I'd happily eat it again but would definitely have it to take away...

Always a treat to eat here. Our friends come from across the pond and enjoyed the curry as usual. Menu is not your standard curry house list. And it's great as it was so close.

Four of us had lunch at Vine and Spice on a quiet Wednesday. The food was excellent as was the service. The menu is unlike most Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants and the food is freshly prepared and delicious. The papadums ( £1 each ) were accompanied by an excellent tray of various chutneys and dips ( £1 a person) which were well above average .The dishes, such as Mirchwala Gosto and Murgh Korma Badami were great as were the sides such as palak panir, and tandoori roti. The bill with three pints of bitter and a couple of soft drinks plus 12.5% service was £113.30 so slightly more expensive than many Indian restaurants with main courses at around £14 each ( big portions) but in my view worth every penny. We will certainly return

Best Indian restaurant in the area! Over the years we have tried a large number of curry houses in Didcot, Abingdon and the surrounding villages but until yesterday had not tried Vine and Spice - our error! Not cheap but definitely the best curry in the area.

Was in the area for just two days. Came across this little beauty of a restaurant. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Food was so much better than the usual Indian menu. Dishes I’d never even heard of before!! Alex and Chris were so hospitable and knew their menu very well. I’m from Cambridge but if I ever get the chance to come back to this beautiful village I will make sure this restaurant is first on my list of things to do.

The visit here with friends was marred slightly by being required to eat in a room where newly painted walls had to be negotiated. There was space in the bar area but we were directed elsewhere. The business lunch of 2 courses for £11.95 is recommended. A starter and main course both comprising of three chef selected items is really good value. You can say if you want mild, medium or hot spice level. Otherwise usual main courses have to add extra cost for rice. Drinks were expensive. Food was excellent. Bar staff member gave preference to male customer whilst in process of serving the lady who made our booking and refused to continue her order, instead dealing with a booking for a future date.

This isn't my usual critique of a restaurant as we were guests, there by invitation, and may be a little biased in favour as the meal was complimentary. Five of us dined. The staff, which were a mix of Indian and Eastern European, were attentive. Food arrived piping hot and dishes arrived together. I had a Jhinga 65” King Prawn Starter (£7.50p) starter. It consisted of South Indian style battered king prawn with fresh curry leaves ginger served with chilli jam. My main course was a Korma Lamb (£11.00p). One of my companions raved about her Lamb Cutlet Starter (£7.50p) which was a tender lamb chop seasoned with green papaya paste and spice grilled in the charcoal tandoor oven. Another had Salmon Tikki as a main course and was very impressed. There were so many varied dishes that I could not keep track of everyone's selections. Portions were so generous that we took substantial amounts away in doggy bags. I can't wait to return and explore other offerings on the Vine & Spice menu.

This restaurant was recommended by a buddy after he ate a great lunch here. We booked a table for Saturday at 8pm, arrived early 7.40pm) and didn’t get our mains until 9.15pm. Service was poor; the bar staff openly argued with one another and their rationale for food being late was lame. Honestly, the food was absolutely delicious. We ate a beef main, beautifully flavoured with cinnamon, a superb spinach and paneer side, butterflied king prawns with chilli, all of which were freshly cooked. My black lentils were way too runny to put on the plate as they were more like soup. Overall the service puts me off going back. The ambience was also spoiled by multiple, and constant, take out orders with customers sitting around on their phones waiting to collect. Such a shame our date night wasn’t quite what I was hoping for. No reparation offered other than a small liqueur by which time I was just ready to leave.

We arrived at 7pm table of 7 restaurant was empty had our popadoms which actually were very good ordered our starters which took over an hour to come out, kept asking where they were to be told they are coming, we then waited a further Hour and a half for our main courses which meant we ate them at 9.35 we had my sister who’s 10 and my niece who’s 2 with us both were very tired by the end of it when we complained the manager actually shouted at my dad it’s not my fault by this point everyone else in the restaurant had eaten their food the service was shocking when the bill came we obviously mentioned how unhappy we were and the owner became even worse his attitude is disgusting shouting waving his hands around etc treating us like we had done something wrong the thing was a shambles the only good thing about the whole restaurant was the waiter Chris who actually couldn’t apologize enough never will we go back there and I will warn anyone I met to never step foot in that place. Service is the worse I have ever experienced don’t waste your time here go somewhere else.

A previous reviewer mentioned this and I thought it cant be true.....how true it is. The food was ok nothing special but the service and arguments were appalling. We were a table of 8 - arrived at 7pm with a few diners - we didnt get our main meals until 9.28pm - 2.5 hours later ! The restaurant was now nearly empty as all diners had had their meals but we didnt - we complained vociferously and got a substantial discount but thats not the point - suggest avoid unless you want to wait. Chris, the waiter was great.

We saw this restaurant start off well several years ago, with incredibly freshly prepared food and pleasant staff. Unfortunately and regrettably, a few years later their food became poorer and old staff were gone while new members seemed uncaring or untrained. We stayed away for three years. Recently it came to our attention that things had improved at this restaurant and we noticed the scores on the doors had gone up again. We tried this restaurant again and the food was better and discrepancies promptly dealt with. A second meal there also was fine and fresh. Unfortunately, it seems we were happy too soon as when we ate there on Sunday evening, the restaurant was was empty yet our food took 40 minutes to arrive. The dish was supposed to consist mainly of okra but this time in fact contained very few pieces of this vegetable but quite a few virtually raw pieces of red and green pepper. It did not unfortunately have the same freshness and did not taste of much. The zafrani rice contained quite a few lumps of caked-together rice suggesting it was reheated rather than freshly prepared. Unfortunately, following this meal, both my partner and I suffered from unpleasant stomach upsets.

Had a fantastic meal on Monday night. Good choice for vegetarians - as is fairly normal for Indian restaurants - but was a very good selection none the less. We thought they were closed at first as the car park was empty. Very glad we checked! The food was fabulous and the service by Alex was ace :-)

The Vine and Spice may be unique in the UK because it offers real Indian food just like you would get in India. The service is prompt and very friendly but it is the food that makes finding this restaurant well worth the effort. If you are in Oxfordshire then GO TO THE VINE AND SPICE. You will not be disappointed. (Tell Alex, the waiter, I sent you.)

We came here today for lunch and were very impressed. We came because, according to the government food hygiene ratings, it's one of the only pubs in the area to score a 5, and we were very pleased with the food. All staff were very friendly, nice real ale on tap and a very good lunch in a nice environment.

We are four old gents in a gin-palace cruising the Thames. On Sunday we moored at one of our favourite pubs - The Plough in the village - and upon hearing that there was no food on a Sunday the landlord suggested this restaurant nearby. We were certainly not disappointed. The food was to the highest standard and the proprietor took time out for a chat at the bar afterwards.

A bit out of the way, but I can very highly recommend a visit. Food is taken very seriously in this restaurant with high quality ingredients. As a vegetarian it is nice to be catered for especially with fresh ingredients and a varied selection instead of feeling like an after thought and eating the same dishes. There's a bar with ales on draught, a meeting room and a garden area for the summer. Attractive building and carefully decorated, I enjoyed all of the polished wooden items.

Having read the reviews on tripadvisor we decided to drive here as were staying nearby. Can't fault the food and service but do feel the food is very over priced for what you get. Am used to paying £7 for a main not £13.50 upwards as once the rice and sides are added on makes for a pretty pricey meal. One thing I would say is that we looked at the menu on line and this is nothing like the menu in the restaurant - both dishes we had seen on line and had decided to order weren't on the menu as weren't quite a few things!!

Discovered this following a quick search on Trip Advisor for an Indian near Didcot Station for an easy weekday treat. We opted for this (just) out of town option - arriving to find a venue with parking outside. It’s a small restaurant with modest decor, serving very tasty food and accompanied with friendly service. We’ll return and would recommend.
