First the food, we ordered the mixed veg platter: the Cauliflower & Paneer seemed like they had been 'cooked' with a blow torch, they tasted of carbon. The roti had clearly been cooked in advance and as a result was very 'hard'. Their beetroot chutney with the popadums was very unusual but excellent! Definitely a highlight. Their plates and all of the dishes were presented beautifully. Our mains were ok tasting, I suspect they simply have a menu that's too big. The serving staff were obviously very, very inexperienced, we had to ask for water twice, port came out in a shot glass, rum+coke came out as half a small glass and many other issues. In general the presentation, location and premises are beautiful but the food & service isn't aligned with the pricing

A really amazing dining experience. We decided to go for something different to the usual. We had the duck and paneer starters. The duck was amazing. It was juicy, spicy and with a barbecue feel. Then I had the Kashmiri styled beef. The heat built up but it tasted fantastic and it was perfect with pilau rice. My wife had the chicken stuffed with lamb in a milder creamy sauce. The sausage was delicious and the chicken and lamb an unexpected combination that works well. The peshwari naan were sweet and succulent and the potatoes and spinach excellent accompaniments. It is definitely the best Indian restaurant in the area and one of the best meals I have ever had.

We have been regular visitors to this restaurant since it first opened. The food has always been of very high quality, in fact the best in the area by far. The butter chicken is fantastic and the potato cakes with spinach are a must- try. We have had takeaway and eaten in and have been very happy with the service and quality. Last night, I watched the manager deal with a very rude customer and he managed the situation courteously and kindly. I’m not quite sure how he maintained his patience with such a ridiculous and totally undeserved complaint but it is a testament to the high standard of service you get at this lovely restaurant.

Stayed in a nearby B&B and booked online for a table later that evening. Confirmed booking was prompt. Good menu with plenty of variety but maybe a little on the expensive side. Service was good and the building/decor is a pleasant place to eat. We both enjoyed our starters but felt the mains didn't quite deliver – but judging by the other reviews, maybe we just didn't choose the right dishes.

Excellent meal out with friends. The food is not like the usual Indian restaurant fare. This was presented to a high standard especially the starter. The service would have five stars but the waiter was either junior and/or inexperienced and he dropped cutlery and was unclear as to what complementary drinks were being offered. Apart from this small criticism the evening was an excellent experience and we would definitely eat here again.

After looking up the reviews I decided to go to vine and spice and I was not disappointed. The service and food was second to none, I would go as far as to say that its the best Indian food I've had in the UK. Even though we hadn't booked we were offered a beautiful outside seating pod which was very comfy. I had a vegetable biryani that was a huge bowl of vegetable rice ( butternut squash courgette sugarshap pea cauliflower broccoli and fresh herbs ) covered in the naan bread baked in a tandoori oven with an exquisite curry and a bowl of raitha. My partner had a rasooni mirch murgh which was recommended by the waiter and was not disappointed the flavour was incredible. The portions are very generous the rice part of the biryani was enough for 3 people! I can safety say that its money well spent on a wonderful meal with excellent service.

I have had a few take-away meals from "The Vine & Spice" and enjoyed them, so my wife and I treated friends to a meal at the restaurant there. Sadly - and surprisingly - I was extremely disappointed. One of our friend's found that the chicken in their meal was undercooked (it was still pale pink) and highlighted this to staff. It was taken away and a replacement given. The chicken in this was cooked fine, but the sauce was now much more watery and lacked flavour due to this (the other had a nice, thick & creamy sauce). My wife and I are both vegan and member of staff taking our order didn't seem too sure what this meant. During our meal, we had 3 different members of staff coming up asking us the same questions rather than one member of staff being given responsibility for this role. All the staff were very polite, but it was a little disconcerting to be trying to have a conversation only for another member of staff interrupt to ask a question asked a few minutes previously (e.g. whether everything was alright, whether we required any more drink etc.) Our vegan curries had several hard pieces of veg (we don't overcook our veg and enjoy a slight bite to them, but numerous bits of veg were virtually raw and must've been chucked into the sauce moments before dishing up) and my wife found some onion with the root still attached. Also, I did find the meal to be expensive for what you get. Given this experience, I won't be getting any more meals from "The Vine & Spice".

We visited here recently and were drawn by the beautiful looking restaurant next to a country road. There is parking onsite which is handy :) Once inside its very cosy with a bar and some seating, with more of a restaurant setting at the back. We sat at the front and had some papadom with a great selection of dips and a vegetable starter, which was quite nice, though the bhaji seemed a bit burnt. For the main, we both ordered a paneer dish, I had a paneer tikka, and my partner had paneer Dupiaza. The Dupiaza tasted good, but the paneer tikka was quite tomatoey and unlike any tikka I'd had. We also both found the paneer to be a bit under cooked. So overall, there were definitely some tasty dishes, but some elements missed the mark. It was quite expensive too. Might be worth trying if you're in the area but wouldn't go out of your way to visit.

Chicken Tikka, Rogan Josh and lamb balti are on the menu here but in the bottom left hand corner. Placed in such a way that suggests you don’t come here for those dishes. Because the rest of the vast menu has multiple beef curries, fish curries, vegetable curries that all offer something very different to try. Seriously the choice is stunning. I had the Goan fish curry which was smooth full of flavour and perfectly spiced. All on our table of 4 were impressed by the dishes they had one of which were anything we’d tried before. The service was great, relaxed and no pressure to leave once you’d finished. Highly recommend this place it’s nothing like a typical curry house. It’s refreshingly different.

Had to wait 30 minutes beyond scheduled ready time. No apology until after 20 minutes, with other customers coming and going. Eventually offered a free drink while I waited only for staff to find out they'd run out of alcohol-free beer (I was driving). Eventually got meal home (10 minute drive) to find it mainly tepid, and with my chicken based main dish supplied as vegetable version instead. By this time, of course, taking it back was not a practical option. Until recently this establishment enjoyed a good reputation - in recent months it has gone rapidly downhill.

I initially booked on a Thursday for two of us at 6:30pm the following Saturday. Later in the day I called back to increase the amount of people to four as friends said they would like to join us. I was told that they could be accommodated but the restaurant would need the table back by 8pm in order to fit another booking in. I said that would be absolutely fine as we would easily finish by then.We arrived a little early and were shown to our table and offered poppadoms and drinks. All good.We were served by various members of staff. At 7pm a waiter took our order and I was already looking at my watch wondering if they could get us sorted by 8pm. We said we would have starters as sides (onion bhaji's etc). The waiter looked a bit frustrated and said "chef is quite busy". Not really sure why I was told this, it's a Saturday night and we're in an Indian restaurant - I wouldn't expect the chef to be anything but busy!Another waiter kept the drinks flowing while we waited, although we were one beer short as I was told there weren't enough cold ones ready to be served. My friend was also told there was no beer on draught despite there being a full bar downstairs, utterly bizarre.By 7:45 the food still hadn't arrived but the table of six people next to us who had arrived after us were being served, that really annoyed me and alarm bells started ringing. We complained and were told it would be five more minutes. For a place that needed the table back by 8pm, they weren't doing that well. We'd have to go some to eat our entire meal in 10 minutes! The food arrived at 7:50pm and to be fair it was really really good. Lovely quality and taste. All guests in our party agreed it was exceptional food.Obviously we didn't vacate the table by 8pm, the fact that they needed the table back was never mentioned. We got the bill and I complained about the service. They had already put a service charge on the bill. I was told I had to go to the bar downstairs to pay on the way out - do they not have card readers that could be brought to the table like virtually EVERY other restaurant in Britain? There was no attempt by the staff to take the service charge off despite my already having complained so I told the person taking my money I wouldn't be paying it. I told him the food was amazing but seriously let down by the service. He took the charge off and a further small amount as he could see I wasn't happy.I asked to speak to the manager but was told he was at home in Bangladesh! The overall experience was not good here. Yes it was busy but it's a Saturday night. The staff seemed totally out of their depth. If you cannot cope with a full restaurant then don't accept so many covers. This restaurant was not well managed this evening and I would suggest the manager needs to be in attendance not in Bangladesh. This needs to be brought to his attention as it is unacceptable.A real disappointment tonight as it could have been so good.

We visited The Vine and Spice after having it recommended to us by a friend. We arrived for our 8:30pm table at 8:20pm, the table wasn’t ready, which we expected! We were seated in the bar and not offered a drink until 8:40pm, after 20 minutes of sitting. We were taken to our table at 9pm and didn’t finish up until 10:30, the restaurant was busy but we weren’t ever informed of a time of wait for how our pod was doing, we are always more than happy to wait and understand that at busy times things take longer but a little communication would have gone a long way. Our drinks were also not topped up, we had to ask for another. We got poppadoms at the beginning of the meal which were great, the sauces were excellent and clearly made fresh. We got the sharing platter to start, which was average at best. Then followed by 2 curries, a mushroom rice, and naan. The curries were described as spicy but had a mild spice to them, so if you want spicy it might be worth asking for extra spice, they were flavourful and the sauce was nice. I however, wasn’t overly hungry by the time the mains came, I had one piece of chicken from my curry and boxed up the rest. I got it home to discover that the large bits of chicken were undercooked and still pink!! The staff were lovely but the overall experience was average.

I was recently lucky enough to win a take-away meal for 2 from this restaurant. Now that could be seen a a bribe to write an amazing review couldn't it? It was my first time eating from here, although I have always wanted to try it as I have heard so many amazing things, so, being as it was a free meal I asked the manager to advise on what to pick from the menu. Chutneys / dips and poppadoms - a great choice of dips and chutneys, I had my favourites but there was something to please everyone in the selection and the poppadoms were flavoured and crispy!Saag Aloo - delicious and well cooked with a good flavourFor the main courses we had a Chicken Kurai and a Chicken Green Masala. The first dish was a medium heat and strongly flavoured, the second was creamy and Mild. I would recommend both of these dishes although would say that you shouldn't be put off buy the colour of the Green Masala. I shared this prize with my mum and my 10 year old son and with 2 portions of Pilau Rice, there was easily enough food in this order to feed us all well - the chunks of chicken in both dishes were pretty substantial We will certainly be booking a visit to the dining pods in the near future to sample more of this really well cooked and this will definitely be my new Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant of choice in the area!Don't know why it took this long for me to have this experience, but it really didn't disappoint in any way. I would say, that this business is clearly set up for an eat in experience, which may explain the cost of £5 for a home delivery. I drove to collect my order but live reasonably locally, although I would happily drive out of my way to collect a take out from here!

Really enjoyed the whole experience, food amazing , service excellent & we loved the outside pods. Can't fault it. Highly recommend. Best Indian we have ever had, this standard has been maintained for many years, needless to say we will return.

The outdoor pods are fantastic- warm, dry & ambient. Food was incredible with Great suggested additions by the server. Service was so good too, from when I couldn’t get a table on the website I got an instant call asking how they could help & they were all very attentive & polite & friendly. Couldn’t have asked for more, thank you & cant wait to come again.

We are Vine and Spice fans and were really looking forward to our meal ( taken away) but it was lack lustre. We had chicken and lamb mains and a vegetable side order. It all tasted a bit the same. We have previously been assured the meat is Halal but I notice on Trip Advisor there is now no confirmation of this.

Food was lovely and the pods are a very nice way to have a Covid friendly outdoor meal, while staying protected from the elements and giving you some privacy too. Most of the staff were very professional and friendly. The man who greeted us on arrival however came across very rude and abrupt and it seemed like they were surprised we were there even though we had a booking. We were left standing while they prepared our pod and were told abruptly to move and shooed out the way by this member of staff. We watched another group getting draught beer from the bar and when my husband asked what was on draught the man replied abruptly “nothing”. The service from all the other staff and the quality of the food really saved the visit as everyone else was so polite and helpful and the food really was the best Indian we’ve had since we moved here 6 years ago. Would’ve given 5 stars if not for the disappointing start. Will return.

We have visited The Vine and Spice twice and the food and service both times was absolutely fantastic. The waiting staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Today we have a takeaway that I had won in one of their Facebook competitions. It was absolutely delicious - as good as we hoped it would be. I'm not normally a fan of Indian takeaways as I feel like the curries are all a bit samey with no depth of flavour. But The Vine and Spice is not your typical curry house. Their food is such good quality. Sorry for the poor photo but I was rushing to get one whilst my toddler was desperate to eat her dinner. She loved it just as much as us.

Brilliant selection of different curries . Service was spot on and food was delicious. Probably the best Indian in South Oxfordshire

My first visit here for a takeaway and it was Totally Excellent. Now my favourite place for a takeaway. I wasted £45 last night on a Chinese takeaway, 'wasted' because it was awful, very salty and 80% ended in the food waste bin.If I lived 10 miles away I'd still drive to The Vine and Spice for my takeaway as last night I drove 9.5 miles to try a new to me Chinese takeaway which was horrible.

We were sad to have to cancel a family meal at the Vine and Spice due to illness, but treated two of us to their take away service. Superb meal of Chicken Biryani with vegetable curry and Lamb Achar. Just the right balance of heat and individual flavours and everything cooked perfectly. Started with popadoms and their amazing beetroot chutney. Nothing like the average take out and well worth the small difference in price! Sorry team has to close for lock down but we will definitely be making the drive to collect

The food is excellent, but they are not following strict Covid-19 rules, as one of the waiters was wearing his mask over his chin, leaving both mouth and nose uncovered. This is quite a concern.

The food here is really quite exceptional and I couldn't recommend highly enough. They also offer a wide selection of South Indian dishes that are not the normal Anglo-Indian fare which are definitely worth sampling when you're not fancying the ol' cheeky Bhuna.

If it was called the 'Raj' I would have possibly passed it by...typical run of the mill 'Indian''Fine South Indian Cuisine' now this is starting to sound interesting! The menu is not your regular 'Madras etc...' it was far more interesting! It had a wide range of fish and seafood dishes, which is very much in keeping with southern India. We shared a Chula Salmon starter, which was divine...pricy as a starter, but so nicely done I have no issue at all!Mains were Murgh Aheli and Lamb Chettinaad. Both dishes were superb, and complemented each other. Skipped the rice and stuck with plain naan! I think this is the best Indian I have had since sharing a house with an Indian house mate.Excellent and unique! We will certainty visit again, & compliments to the chef!

I love the food here but on this occasion my concern was about safety. Staff who wore masks wore them under the chin, no doubt to catch sweat, but not intended to catch viral particles. Some didn't even bother with masks or with gloves. It left us worried about hygiene in the kitchen. Two metres distance between tables? No! The tables may be two metres apart but the chairs between? One had to make definite moves to keep a safe distance. The staff did not bother with the two metre rule at all. Thank goodness there was a bottle of alcohol gel accessible - not hands-free but at least we were the first to use it! Has anyone heard of Covid in this place?I have been to several restaurants during Covid and I can say that this one shows no respect for the virus nor for the customer who may be vulnerable. Definitely a restaurant for the foolhardy and the young. Thank God the incidence of Covid is low in this area!

Our table was booked for 7pm. Arrived 10 mins early, was show to seat then left. After 20 mins we had to ask for a menu then waited a further 15 mins before anyone took our order. So after being in the restaurant for an hour we eventually got our starter. Had to wait a further 30 mins for the main. What annoyed me most was that they charged a 10 percentage service charge when the service was shocking. Having said that the food was very nice but the drinks are overpriced, don't think there will be a second visit

We went at 6.15 on NYE to avoid the rush. Only ones there for almost an hour. Ordered starter sharing platter. The chicken was perfectly cooked and beautifully spiced but bhajis were way overdone and so were the prawns. Mains arrived – Balti and other main were good, also ordered potatoes as a side but this came very late and when it did the potatoes were raw – hardly cooked. Asked for another and it finally arrived after we had finished our mains. Some of what we had was excellent and others were either raw or cremated. Plenty of staff running around but I would not call the service attentive. It took 3 attempts to find someone who understood us the explain about the raw potatoes. Shame really as it should be a really nice place.

Had a lovely meal, but charging £3.80 for a Soda water and lime when I could drink a pint of beer for under £3 is really taking the pi$$.

I ordered food for collection, and although it was ready in 25 minutes, it was mid at best. The pakoras (4) were soggy and unimpressive by the time they got home. The chicken tikka biryani was also a little disappointing. The rice had almost no flavour. The chicken was tasty but there wasn’t much of it. The vegetable curry was okay, but still uninspired. Overall the biryani was lacking in flavour and underwhelming. I’m a little disappointed, I’ll probably go elsewhere for an Indian takeaway next time.

Absolutely delicious takeaway, we hadn’t previously tried Nepalese food. The Ghurka Lamb and Kathmandu Chicken were both medium hot with real depth of flavours and beautifully cooked meat. We also had three Pokhara Delight mixed veg curry which was just as tasty. Delivery was quicker than expected. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a really enjoyable evening. Our waiter helped each of us (family of 4) through the menu options so we all ended up with exactly the flavours/spice we wanted. Starters and sides were great. Draft Cobra excellent! Would recommend
