Only ordered takeout so can’t comment on the atmosphere but when ever I have collected the staff have been lovely and people enjoying them selves … foods been great would recommend

Because of an allergy, they couldn't prepare any of their dishes as original, which is understandable. However, they told me on the phone to place an order of the dish Kolkata Signature. This is one of their most expensive dishes but what came in the box was a piece of dry chicken with no traces of flavour nor sauce. I even struggled to eat it because of how dry and tasteless is was.

Great service excellent food. From the moment we arrived to leaving we were treated well. Gluten free no problem. We will be back

I have recently moved to Didcot and found Kolkata online as I needed my spice fix. After reading the reviews I decided to give Kolkata a go. To say I was not disappointed is an understatement. The service was incredible, and the whole ordering process over the phone was made really easy by the warm and knowledgeable team. They quickly answered any questions I had regarding the dishes, and after asking me questions about my tastes, recommended me a dish I had yet to try before. The food was some of the best I've had, and Kolkata has now become a staple for my weekend Indian food treats to myself. You will not be disappointed.

We love eating at Kolkata. The food is always excellent and we know we will get a warm welcome from Ali. When we order takeaway it's always hot and ready when he says it will be. Update February 2025 - Following a house move, I haven't been able to get to this fabulous restaurant for many months. I met up with some friends and persuaded them to eat there. We all absolutely loved it. My friends both saying it's the best curry they have had in ages. Ali was a gracious host, the food was excellent. I can totally recommend eating here.

I had a very hot curry with various naans. Staffs were friendly and kind, curry was amazing, and the atmosphere was cozy for foreigners.

Food was delicious and the portions were quite generous. Staff were very welcoming. Will come back again and would recommend the Kolkata to other friends.

Best Indian food I have had in a long while. Ali and his staff could not do enough for us. Food and service amazing. Ali even provided food for one of our group to take back to his partner as this was a regular haunt of their's before they moved away. My wife came to pick me up and Ali heard we would have to go to Mac Donalds as she was hungrey and he sorted food for her to eat on the wat home. Very clean restaurant and inviting. Will be back soon

Very unfriendly and rude employees. The name of this restaurant is Kolkata but it’s origin is not Indian, it’s Bangladeshi. The spices used in the food are not from the Indian Bengali cuisine either, it’s a hybrid and prices are expensive. We have to wait for 45 minutes for the food. By the time the food came my four year old daughter was tired and became very cranky. We left hardly eating anything. Will never go to this place again and will never recommend either.

This was probably the best Indian food I've ever had and all the better for the way Ali and the staff made me feel welcome. I had no expectations coming in but I left feeling sad I'll probably never be in Didcot again to enjoy the food here. Ali was a great host and made sure I got the most out of my time here, giving the best advice as to what choices would complement each other best. I felt very much looked after. If you're ever visiting Didcot, do yourself a favour - if you only do one thing go to Kolkata and enjoy the fantastic food. If you live in Didcot, I hope you realise how lucky you are!

Very delicious food also service was great.

I ordered a medium spicy curry with eggs and potatoes. It was quite spicy, but it was delicious with naan.

We have used Kolkata many times for much needed takeaways and they are always brilliant. Ordering is easy and the restaurant staff are friendly and as far as food is concerned top notch!

Visiting Didcot from London (Wittingham clumps)… Excellent customer service, food arrived nice and hot, tasted great. My friend was impressed too. Will return to restaurant if we’re in the area.

We hadn't planned to eat here, and just called in after visiting someone in the hospital up the road. We're so glad we made the spontaneous decision to get dinner here! All the dishes were excellent, beautifully presented, and the ingredients appeared very fresh. They very kindly gave us a complimentary dish of vegetable pakora. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we over ordered, but they kindly packed our leftovers for us to take away. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. We finished our meal with lovely desi tea. Thank you very much.

Ordered a takeaway for 6 on New Year's Day for collection at 1915. Order placed with ease and was ready for collection on time. Complementary dishes added that we would not normally order however what a game changer!!!! Lovely breads added and some meat dishes. Great service and faultless food. We do not often have Indian for takeaway however when we do this is our go too place. Great service all round!!!

Best curry we’ve had in ages! We visited for my husband’s birthday and had a great evening. The food was top notch - freshly prepared, full of flavour and totally delicious. We also were treated to a few extra dishes on the house which meant we tried some new dishes too. Service and atmosphere were also great - we will visit again soon!

Great food , customer service,and facilities

Another excellent meal at Kolkata - this place is definitely a cut above. The extensive menu and the friendly staff make this one of the best restaurants in the area. The owner is outstanding - he has a real passion for the food, making recommendations and providing extra dishes ar no cost because he thought we would like them. If you haven't yet been to Kolkata, you are missing a treat!

Had a takeaway from Kolkata, excellent customer service, the team called me as soon as they had received the order to check through it and the delivery came well within the predicted time slot. Really tasty and would highly recommend, will definitely be ordering again.

We've been getting takeaway from Kolkata for years as the food is absolutely delicious (recommend the veggie dansak!) but we have recently started coming in and Ali treats us like absolute royalty! The atmosphere is fantatsic, and you are always well looked after. We recently came in with a large group for a birthday party and everyone had a fantatsic time. 10/10

We have eaten at Kolkata for years now, be it for a meal out together or ordering in for a takeaway. The food is always delicious the flavour packs a punch and the portions are fantastic! On top of that, Ali has always been incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us not just feel completely at home, like locals whenever we visit. Could not recommend Kolkata any more highly!

We had a lovely night. We have had take away from here before but eating in was a lovely experience. We were very well looked after, the food was delicious and we tried new dishes on recommendation which were stunning. We will definitely be back.

Had an evening meal with a friend. He had a chicken shasklik, I had a biryani which the waiter agreed to take the edge off the spice for me - I normally go for kormas. we started with popadoms, with some really nice sauces, and were also given, gratis, a fold-over pancake dish with vegetables to try which was delicious. The waiter service was excellent, the food fantasric, and the portions left us full but not overr-so, which can be so common with Indian dining. Altogether a marvellous experience, and we shall definitely be returning to Kolkata.

Slow delivery no email to confirm and then argue with when you complain. If they can’t deliver in a reasonable time then don’t take the order. Last time we will order with them plenty of another restaurants around.

Great restaurant, the staff are lovely and have a bit of a laugh. Food is great and sometimes get some extra tasters! Only place we go for our gatherings of 10+ friends, few beers and plenty of food ordered, with a doggy bag for lunch tomorrow!

A big 5 stars for the food and great service. We've had our takeaway food from them for quite a while and can't fault it, always arrives piping hot and tastes great. You also have a great choice in what to order, and if not sure they are always willing to help. Just a really lovely restaurant.

Great food and lovely service! I will visit India next year and had a great chat about that with the waiter. The served food was so delicious and not expensive at all. I had 2 drinks, one starter and a big main with Naan and rice for £35. It would be my go-to restaurant, if I lived in Oxfordshire.

Excellent food - prompt delivery

The restaurant had great service even when we only picked up a takeaway. The owner was very kind and helpful and even called the next day to check our food was up to scratch. Food was excellent and packed with flavour, bread was fresh and rice was fluffy. First time going, but will certainly be back.

We had an amazing experience here! Tonight was our first visit but definitely not our last!! All of the food was delicious and the service was amazing. We loved chatting with the manager Ali. His recommendations were excellent and he was so kind and treated us so well. We can't wait to return!

Went here about 12 months ago and though the food tasted ok, there was little atmosphere on the restaurant - most of the visitors were for take-away food. As we couldn’t get to an Indian restaurant in Abingdon this evening (due to traffic attending the huge Fireworks display), we looked again at Didcot options. Note: Kolkata has been recently been given 1 star food hygiene rating 😧. We chose Gurkha restaurant 2 doors up the road. Review on that separately.

Wow what an experience. From the moment we arrived we had such a personal service. He provided some interesting options from the menu we hadn't tried before. The manager also found our spice level perfectly matched to our requirements. Why cook Indian when you can eat out and it's this good.

We always have a fantastic takeaway curry from Kolkata. Really flavoursome and always piping hot. Their chicken tikka dhansak is the best around!

Been taking my oldest daughter here regularly since she was 5. She’s now 12 and it’s been consistently good. No other Indian will do!

We had takeaway, we tried lots of new dishes, it was all absolutely delicious- great flavours, and suited all members of our family (fussy ones included!)

This is a fantastic restaurant, really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Especially fantastic for coeliacs or people with food allergies, I felt very safe and was able to eat almost everything on the menu. We were kindly given a few free starters to try also & the food was wonderful.

Kolkata is our go to dinner and take away place. The service is personal, warm and welcoming each time we go. Ali is always attentive, service is quick and when we are up for trying something a little different, the team are brilliant with their recommendations. The food is a wonderful level of spice and flavour. We don't go any where else for date night dinners or for Friday night takeaways!

Ali and the Team at Kolkata are fab. Food here is tasty, plentiful and always hot. I order here both for takeaway at home myself, but also on behalf of my workplace where we order food for 25 people for a lunchtime. Each time the service and care is second to none (being offered a complementary drink on pick up and bringing the food directly to the car!) and the experience is all round very pleasant and appreciated by our team. I’d recommend eating here, thank you Kolkata!
