Kolkata in South Oxfordshire

We have used Kolkata many times over the years and they are a very firm favourite of ours. The food is always delicious, perfectly cooked every single time and I cannot recommend highly enough. Ali is always so kind and a fantastic host. Best Indian around, we wouldn't go anywhere else.

We had takeaway, we tried lots of new dishes, it was all absolutely delicious- great flavours, and suited all members of our family (fussy ones included!)

This is a fantastic restaurant, really friendly and knowledgeable staff. Especially fantastic for coeliacs or people with food allergies, I felt very safe and was able to eat almost everything on the menu. We were kindly given a few free starters to try also & the food was wonderful.

Kolkata is our go to dinner and take away place. The service is personal, warm and welcoming each time we go. Ali is always attentive, service is quick and when we are up for trying something a little different, the team are brilliant with their recommendations. The food is a wonderful level of spice and flavour. We don't go any where else for date night dinners or for Friday night takeaways!

Ali and the Team at Kolkata are fab. Food here is tasty, plentiful and always hot. I order here both for takeaway at home myself, but also on behalf of my workplace where we order food for 25 people for a lunchtime. Each time the service and care is second to none (being offered a complementary drink on pick up and bringing the food directly to the car!) and the experience is all round very pleasant and appreciated by our team. I’d recommend eating here, thank you Kolkata!

I went in late on Saturday after a good few scoops. Normally use another Indian in fairness but fancied a change. Ordered my usual, was recommended another dish. Outstanding. Something I wouldn’t have ordinarily tried. Service was impeccable, even for a takeaway. Will definitely be back.

Be aware!!! This is a totally overpriced and hyped Indian restaurant. I ordered a meat dish that came with no sides and a glass of house wine and I paid a whopping 45 £ !!! And for some reason the prices of the ordered items did not even add up to this number but the server said they had to add 7£ for service!!! That is a total scam!!! The food was mediocre and same for the service and atmosphere. Nothing special for the high price!!!

The food is excellent and I would highly recommend. Ali is such a welcoming and friendly person who makes the experience a real pleasure. My son who usually does not enjoy curry loved the Korma and Ali recommended a curry I had never had before which was great!

I had already ordered a takeaway and then needed more food as my mother-in-law came round so rang them and they were able to add to our delivery and it still was on time. Food was great and very hot still when delivered.

Nowhere else in Didcot (or Oxfordshire!) compares to Kolkata. Best peshwari naan I’ve had, curries are always full of flavour. To top it off, they are such a friendly bunch and go the extra mile to ensure you have the best experience.

This is absolutely our favourite restaurant in Didcot! Every time we were there, all the staff are nothing but nice. The food tastes sublime whether we dine in or take out. This place immediately jumped to our mind when our friend came to visit from Canada. Highly recommended!

I have consistently had a great experience at Kolkate in Didcot! I have always enjoyed the food and service there, both when dining in and getting takeout. It's always a good sign when a restaurant can maintain high quality across different dining experiences. Despite the competition in the area, this restaurant stands out to me due to its consistently excellent food and the service makes it stand head and shoulders above the rest. Had another fantastic meal at Kolkata tonight 13/09/24 great experience as always, consistently good food and the level of service lifts it above the competition.

Was our first time visiting for a sit down meal. I couldn’t recommend the restaurant more. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Gave good recommendations on the food and all of the food was great! Will definitely be going back again!

A busy Saturday night in Kolkata! But we were well looked after, service friendly but not intrusive. Good atmosphere. We wanted to give 4.5 for food - only because my other half wished it was bigger rice portions! Highly recommend.

We had a takeaway on Sunday evening, the food was top class, we loved the selection , Ali was very helpful with our choices You get what you pay for , maybe more expensive than other takeouts but the quality is 100% better ! Can’t wait for our next treat

Every time we dine at Kolkata, it’s an amazing experience. Ali and the staff are always incredibly welcoming, often going out of their way to make us feel at home by adding a little extra to our meals. The fact that Ali remembers us—especially our little boy 😉—says it all. You can clearly see how much he cares about his customers and goes above and beyond to make sure they want to return. The food is exceptional, and the staff is always happy to accommodate any requests or recommend a dish if you’re unsure what to order (for example like me). I highly recommend visiting Kolkata or at least ordering takeaway form there.

We are staying in a nearby hotel and decided to eat here due to the great reviews and good vegetarian options. Ali was a fantastic host and we really enjoyed the dishes he recommended. Lots of freshly cooked options and the portion sizes are very generous.

Had a takeaway from Kolkata with my friends a few weeks ago and we all LOVED it. The sides are so good and there’s so much to choose from. Will definitely be making this a regular thing.

We haven't been into Kolkata for a few years and popped in for a quick meal after a busy day out. Must say what great food, I haven't enjoyed an Indian so much for ages. The normal things like Korma and Tikka Masala were lovely but the star of the show for me was a fried garlic chicken starter. Just beautiful, so very tasty without being hot, one of the nicest things I have eaten in a long time. On top of that great service, really friendly but without being intrusive. We will be back without a doubt.

Looks like I'm joining a very large group of reviewers who agree that this is, in every way, a 5 star restaurant. The food was absolutely brilliant and the manager, Ali, was fantastic, friendly, and really took it upon himself to make our visit as enjoyable as possible. The restaurant itself was a very elegant space and further provided a great atmosphere. I'm looking forward to returning very soon - I'm new to town and have already found a new favourite! Now, i dont want to write a negative review per-say, but i hope Kolkata read this and look into a way to change their website, to avoid anyone else in future being a bit bummed out. The other day I placed an order online(Kolkata is my favourite Indian in Didcot- food always amazing!). I didnt check the opening hours, which is my fault, but in my head if i could order online through their website then they must be open? I had a really rough day and decided to have an early dinner given i missed lunch. I placed my online order at 4.20, got an email straight away saying thank you, we'll message with a time soon. Now nothing in the online ordering- at the top of the menu, or when i clicked order or when i got my confirmation email stated that the restaurant didnt open until 5.30! I rang them after nearly an hour at 5.10 to ask if they could tell me how long it would be. The man who answered informed me the kitchen didnt even OPEN until 5.30 and i could expect my food after 6! At 6.15pm my 4.20pm order arrived. I really wish there could have been information somewhere when ordering or that their ordering system wouldnt allow orders before 5.30. I think, had i known i would have been waiting 2 hours i might have just hit up Mc Donalds :( Food great, Online ordering a bit pants

The best Indian restaurant in Oxfordshire!! The food is amazing and Ali and the team are so welcoming and accommodating. I couldn’t recommend this place more! Me and my friends had the best food.

We went in the other week and had an excellent curry. They were exceptionally accommodating making everything vegan. Ali, the manager, was great and provided the best service I have ever seen! He made sure all our food was vegan and even gave us a few extra dishes to try. I really can't recommend this place enough, and am very grateful to Ali and everyone else for providing a fantastic curry and experience.

What can I say, a 5 star experience. Excellent customer service and attentiveness from the manager, Ali. He was very friendly and helpful throughout our dining experience despite being so busy at the time. All the food was quality, to name a few, the tandoori king prawn starter, lamb biryani, tarka dhall, and the special chicken dish we had was amazing. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant were also very elegant and peaceful. There is limited parking at the front, but there is plenty of parking on the side streets, which is great. Highly recommend this place to curry lovers.

If you only order takeaways from Kolkata, you are missing out, and that's a shame. Don't get me wrong, their takeaways are excellent, but if you make the effort to go to the restaurant, you will see what I mean, and you are in for a treat. The restaurant is modern and pleasantly furnished, the people who work there are friendly and helpful. But the star of the show is the freshly prepared food. Freshly cooked food is always the best. It is hard to beat nan that is just out of the oven, which is a lovely thing. My wife and I had meaning to pop in for ages, and we weren't disappointed and had a lovely evening We took our time and had a mixed starter, a main course each and sides with bread and rice. All washed down very nicely with a Kingfisher or three. I even managed a dessert. So the next time you are about to reach for the phone, stop, make an occasion of it, and enjoy eating out

We visited while staying locally based on the excellent reviews, and they did not disappoint The service was second to none. Nothing was too much to ask, and they were super attentive. When I ordered my started, they suggested a different dish, which was similar for me to try, which I took them up on. Which bring me on to the food... It was phenomenal! They brought out the starter I had originally ordered as well as the suggested starter (at no extra cost) The flavours and textures which just to die for. The mains were equally amazing. I am really fussy with Indian food, so it takes a lot to impress I would highly recommend based on both the food and the service. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely go back

We had a delicious meal last night, trying different options from the chef’s specials menu - all of which were yum! Ali is a friendly host and clearly loved by all the regulars who were popping in for take away. Our only regret is that we just couldn’t fit in any more of the food and were visiting from out of town so won’t be able to pop in regularly!

Highly recommend the incredible Chicken Chat with it's wonderful blend of flavoursome spiced sweetness that I can't get enough of! Duck Lajawab made for a gorgeous centrepiece sizzling away as it arrived at our table too - delicious!

Had a great evening at Kolkata recently. They brought us out a plate of well-spiced bhajis and pakoras while we waited for our main courses. They recommended an excellent main course alternative to the vegetable jalfrezi I was initially going to order, good heat but not so much that the flavour was eclipsed. The staff were attentive and so friendly, I couldn't recommend the place more!

Have to say they bent over backwards to help me celebrate my mums 80th birthday buy producing some most delicious dishes for me and my family to have at the home where my mother lives.. thankyou so mich for all your help and just the nicest food ☺️

I'm in Didcot for one evening and chose this restaurant by the pictures on Google. WOW! Stuck gold here! Probably the best Indian meal I've eaten. Just the dips with my poppadoms blew me away. Quality ingredients cooked really well. Heat with all the flavours. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

It was my first visit in Kolkata and definitely not the last one. Food was absolutely delicious (what was not a surprise looking at all previous reviews) and the atmosphere was amazing. This place is great. The staff was kind and helpful. The food was plenty and super delicious. The staff offered a range of dishes with all levels of spiciness since fully mild to quite hot. The flavors were amazing. We were a group of 6, with drinks and naans included and some starters (some were invited by the house) the bill was just about 200 pounds. Worth every penny of it !

Quality all round. Best Indian I’ve had in Oxfordshire, v busy and still great service. There was a small wait for food so they brought us free food, and then when they realised a couple guys were veggie, they brought out some more free veggie food. (A little expensive, but I think they all are round here)

Ali was our server, fantastic service and accommodation for our booking due to last minute enquiry. Lovely atmosphere and lovely table side service, incredibly friendly. Food was amazing especially the fresh Naan with the crispy bottom. Flavours of the dishes were fantastic, absolutely demolished the food. Thankyou and we will be back again if we can help it.
