First, when I arrived (as a solo diner) the only small table available still had dirty crocks on it. But I sat there anyway, and since no one came to clean the table, I had to move the crocks to an empty larger table (which also had dirty crockery on it). So I ended up eating off a table which was never cleaned after the last people leaving and me arriving). My starter (Hot Mess), had ingredients missing. I tucked into it thinking maybe they were at the bottom of the dish, but no, the red hot sauce, jalapenos and spring onions were not there. So I ate it (and what I ate was tasty) but I did feel a little 'short changed'. Then when my main course arrived (rack of ribs coated in bbq sauce and chilli heatwave Doritos crumb), the bbq gravy and coleslaw were missing. And the lady bringing out the meals rushed off quickly back into the kitchen and never reappeared for ages, so I ended up making my self known to the bar staff that there were items missing on my meal. I was then told they would be brought out to me, but it was still about another 10 - 15 mins before the missing items were brought to me. She did apologise for the missing food items though. And then when I had finished, a visit to the Gents was an experience, as neither toilet cubicle door locked, as they were both broken. The only other thing to point out is that the staff were happily letting kids run into the kitchen area. I get that it was probably children that they knew, but still, surely this is a health and safety issue allowing members of the public into the kitchen area (especially children)? Usually, it's been alright at The Vine, and it's easy for me to get to there, but based on this experience, I think next time I might try The Amber Tavern or The Court Oak and see if I have any better luck there. I do hope the pub takes on board my points. I'm not trying to sound nasty or anything, as, generally speaking, it's a nice pub and the staff are friendly. I just feel that I need to say it as I found my experience.

My Grandparents live directly opposite the pub and due to increasing mobility issues, The Vine has become a regular haunt for family visits. Having previously frequented other more well known and upmarket restaurants / pubs further down the high street, The Vine was always an option if my Grandfather was not up to walking. However in the last 18 months his physical health has deteriorated and due to proximity The Vine provides a welcome and friendly environment that allows us to get out of their flat. The staff have always been incredibly accommodating - opening doors, moving tables and providing help where possible. The staff are are patient and understanding of all needs. Ourselves and other family members have always had good experiences here. You know you will always get value for money here. It is nice that there remains room for a traditional no frills family pub amongst a thriving and diverse high street. We would have been lost without The Vine and will always look forward to our visits. Whilst we don’t know the names of the two staff in particular that we have come to know quite well, all staff are lovely. Thank You.

Who would believe that in this day and age!The others with me at the pub also had various Asian dishes and everyone ate with enjoyment. The lady at the bar was very helpful and the food was quite quickly brought to the table. I have been going to the Vine for 9 years. My daughters first trip out as a baby was to the vine. We met most of our friends there. We even chose our house so that It was in walking distance. So its with great sadness I write this post. The Vine is no longer how it used to be. Over the last year it has slowly gone down hill. The staff are normally great and friendly but since Tim and Alistair left and the new manager arrived things have really slipped. It used to be a family friendly place but not anymore, with children being told off, kids menu being replaced and mountains of Rockette "leaves" being added on top of kids pizza, even though its been requested not to time and time again! Four year old's do not like it on the side let alone six inches high on a Margaretta pizza and I do not care if you have worked in a top gastro pub! The Vine used to be Number 2 rated on trip adviser and now its 21. If I owned the place I would be asking myself what is going on. I am now voting with my feet and off to spend my hard earned cash else where. The Vines takings are going to be down seriously and I mean seriously......

Whilst not "locals" my friends and I have regularly travelled to lunch at this venue on several occasions over the past 3 years because of the high quality food and good service. The standard of cuisine from both the specials board and the main menu is always high, good value for the quality delivered and creative in many of the dishes and use of ingredients. We have never been disappointed with the service and the waiters and waitresses have provided fast and friendly responses to requests both before and during the meal. This place is always hit and miss. If the food is great the staff are'nt. One waitress rushed off her feet (with her hair hanging in the food) So this time it was the food, disgusting, stale scotch egg starter pork belly main with mash potato that could have been sold to the council to fill the pot holes in ware, and so called 'creme anglais' lumpy custard and crumble for dessert.management need to give staff a chat about the cost of a meal in this place and try and make the customer feel as if they are valued, this is like going into Mcdonalds but being served fast food very slowly. I went in here a couple of weeks ago and had steak and chips which were not freshly cooked and a poor dessert, I've given this place its last chance.

My boyfriend and I went here last night for a meal. The service was quick which is always a good thing. Before we ordered, we were told that they had run out of one of the starters but that was alright because neither of us wanted that particular starter, so we didn't mind. The food was nice, we both enjoyed the meals we had. I think the food is very overpriced for what it is though. The portions were small. We also ordered a bottle of wine which was almost £20 but nothing special. We both wanted a dessert so the dessert menu was brought out to us and we were advised that they had run out of the sticky toffee pudding, which again luckily neither of us wanted. I wanted the cheesecake so I asked for it and then was told that they had run out of that too. It's disappointing that they had run out of two of the most popular desserts. You would think they would make sure they had enough. It wasn't busy in the restaurant so I'm not sure how they had run out of so much of the menu! In a place where I am spending a lot of money, I expect to be able to have the dessert that I want. In the end, we didn't have a dessert because there was a limited choice anyway; the only two desserts I would have wanted they had run out of. I wouldn't go back to the Restuarant but we did have some cocktails in the pub afterwards which were lovely so I would go back to the pub, but definitely not the overpriced restaurant!

I had venison this time with a glass of Malbec, perfect for a cold evening and my better half had the burger. It was surprisingly busy for January so they must be doing something right, most places in Ware are dead with little or no atmosphere let alone decent food. Went here for Sunday lunch. Good varied menu with a lot of locally sourced ingredients, most of which was cooked very well and very tasty. Things went down hill a bit with dessert. My creme anglais tasted like it had been cooked with salt and then curdled. On it being pointed out to the waitress I was asked if I was sure it wasn't right. I assured her that I was and was then asked what I wanted her to do about it! A new one on me, but things did improve when I explained that I wanted it replaced. They did then take it off of the final bill. All in all I'd go back for the food and just take the service as it comes. Just another reminder that customer service in this country is varied to say the least.

I last visited the vine just over a year ago and vowed never to return. In retrospect, a review of 2 stars was probably over generous at the time. Anyway, the same crowd agreed to revisit for a pre chrimbo lunch and I'm pleased to report we were pleasantly surprised. All the food was well cooked and presented. Of note was the rabbit Wellington and the goats cheese tortellini. Deserts were a little hit and miss and although i appreciate they're not made fresh to order, some effort to make this less obvious would have been nice (the sticky toffee pudding was neither warm, nor a pudding in my book). It would appear they have turned a corner and on the basis of this visit, I'm certainly inclined to return.

The food was very good, and the service was fast, warm and friendly. Would I go back? I'd love to, but I'd ask for a better table. The trend in restaurants seems to be for bare floors, hard wooden furniture and clean lines. It looks nice, and is easy to maintain, but it does nothing to mitigate the sounds of the service, or other patrons. The back room at 'The Vine' echos like a hollow box. We went on a busy night, and while no particular party was being loud, every natural sound was magnified. At times, we literally could not hear ourselves speak. That put a real damper on our family get together. If I go back, it will be in the summer, when we can sit outside, or we'll ask for a table round the front. It's a good restaurant with good food, I'd just avoid the back area.

I have visited the Vine many times over the last few years and have always had excellent food and service however on the last occasion they let themselves down, I was visiting with a large group of work colleagues, one couldn't make it and his pre-ordered club sandwich was cancelled as soon as we arrived all was fine everyone enjoyed their meals however when the bill was presented there was a club sandwich on it, our boss pointed out that we had cancelled the order and had not received the sandwich, the waitress then said that they had already put the chicken under the grill when the order was cancelled and therefore expected us to pay for it, something which they failed to tell us at the time and didn't attempt to bring the sandwich out, had we known that we were going to have to pay for it anyway we would have taken it back to work for our colleague or some hungrey person would have eaten it. This has tainted my view of how they value their customers, as a large group we usually book this place for work lunches but may think again in future, which is a shame as it is usually lovely place with great food.

Relaxed and laid back of a Sunday afternoon, busy and fun of a Friday night and warm and welcoming of a cold winter's evening. Food, with meat from the excellent local butcher's shop, is tasty and well-prepared, if a little expensive. However, the dining room provides a comfortable oasis from the busy pub. Service is always warm and welcoming. As a pub it serves some interesting guest beers from local and national brewers

Went at Sunday lunchtime and expected it to be busy. It was fairly busy but nowhere near capacity. Greeted and seated quickly but starters took 30 minutes to arrive and another 20 minutes after for our mains. Overall the food we had was tasty and plentiful; the wine list is varied and offers plenty of choice. Waitresses were average, not very attentive and indifferent to us. Because of the wait (we’d been in the restaurant for over 2 hours by now!) we decided to have our coffee and dessert from the Costa across the road.Would go again but not over Sunday lunchtime, perhaps a weekday evening.

The food is usually very good and they regularly change and add to their menu. A little cramped for space sometimes at busy times but has a great atmosphere and is popular.

We had a lovely meal here. The food was delicious. The staff were friendly. They had a lovely (but limited) child's menu. The beer wasn't over priced. The only downer: I thought it was just a little overpriced for the portion sizes - although my partner didn't agree.

First time we walked out, it was too busy for the apathetic staff, but second time was fine.Plenty of seating areas, all a bit intimate, but this is fine by me. A traditional country style pub in a very old building, so quite interesting as you enjoy your drink.Nothing hugely special, but well worth a punt!

I visited on a Friday lunchtime with friends who kindly ordered tapas before I arrived - 6 bowls between 3 ladies seemed enough with the bread, oil & balsamic accompaniment. We had prawns, scallops etc. Order food at the bar and they will bring it over to you. It isn't a cheap lunch, but enjoyable and "picky" food is my favourite. It has an informal pub/bar feel rather than a restaurant, so don't expect starched white tablecloths...

Lots of choice on the menu particularly if you like fish, although last time our whole party had steak & everyone's came just as ordered (from rare to cremated!) I have also had the best rissotto I have ever tasted here & it has now become one of my favourite to cook it was so delicious. The menu changes seasonally so always fresh ingredients used. The staff are attentive & will find you a table at short notice - even if you have to mill around in the bar or pull up a sofa for a while. The whole place has a real buzzy vibe whatever night you go & I would thoroughly recommend it.

The Vine has a very diverse menu from traditional homely bangers and mustard mash to succulent fish dishes, ostrich burgers or mezze. A great selection to suit all tastes. As a gastro pub, you can enjoy a relaxing drink before you dine, in the summer there is a tiny outside area. The food is of an excellent standard and great value for money.

I have been to the Vine in Ware a couple of times in the past, but only for drinks in the evening and never for food. Then last week we had friends from Spain over and planned to take them out for a meal, so thought that we would try the Vine even though we have not eaten there before. The night before I happened to have a quick look on here at customers reviews, only to find a review saying that they did not have a great experience. This at the time was worrying and almost made us think about changing our plans....... Let me start by saying DO NOT listen to that review, and thank goodness we didnt change our plans. I am writing this review (I have never written a review in my life) to let people know that the food, the staff, the service and even the pub itself is fantastic. We had booked a table but arrived a little earlier so to have a drink before dinner, where we was greeted by a very helpful barman who offered the ladies some advice on the wines that they did which was a nice touch. Whereas me and the guys were happy as they had Peroni on tap. We were seated on time, and the staff could not do enough for us checking that everything was ok. The food itself was exceptional and perfectly cooked. If you decide to have a starter try the Pan Fried King Praws they were beautiful. I always have a tendency to order steak when I'm out so tried the Rib Eye Steak, which was cooked to perfection and did not dissapoint. The wife had the Seabass fillet and didnt leave one bit, which I am pretty sure is a first so that must of been good. The cost for everything was also very reasonable, and would of been happy to pay more for the standard of food that we had. All in all it was an excellent evening, and we are already planning another trip there with some other friends. Jay

I have heard alot about their Grill nights on wednesdays so had arranged for a table of 6 for family. The service was prompt and attentive with the same waitress serving our drinks and food. The food was cooked beautifully with us all having steaks cooked differently and with ever changing sides to go with them they were all correct. The best bit about it all was the free wine with our steaks saving us £50 on the bill. Excellent night and would highly recommend the Vine for Dining.

I work in Ware and so have made many trips to the Vine, the latest being on Friday night. On previous visits I've thought the food has been good, certainly not outstanding, but I've been happy nonetheless. However, Friday night was different.....overcooked and woody asparagus with a butter sauce that was overrun with water from the other ingredients on the plate; a smoked duck and feta cheese charlotte that had no right to ever be conceived and hence was awful; gammon steaks that were tough and dry; soggy calzone; dry and crispy confit duck with overcooked green beans.....there were some acceptable dishes (fish cakes, burger), the service was fine and we didn't have to pay for the gammon (the only truly inedible food served up). However, with such a fall from grace I can't see me hurrying back.

I've been going here a lot since last summer, mainly after i finish my bike rides (Ware is normally our end destination). It doesn't have a Garden but has a great fron seating area to watch the world go by, so perfect in Summer. Especially because they serve my favourite beers and have a great selection (not your normal fosters etc).Food is stunning and is the main reason i'm writing this review. They put thought into their menu and it isnt your usual pub grub. It's priced the same but even better quality. I had a club sandiwch the other week which blew my socks off and filled me up for a week. Their pizza's are amazing too - and there's some quirky toppings going on.It get's quite busy at weekends/evenings so not your normall chilled pub, but this is perfect if you fancy something a bit more lively. The drawback is having no garden, get a garden and this pub is perfect. Looking forward to a few more bike rides up to The Vine this summer...

My husband and I have been to the Vine on a number of occasions previously, and wonder if there has been a change of management recently. We were intending to have a late lunch at the Vine one saturday, but were unfortunately greeted by tables in the bar area covered with dirty used plates from previous diners, spilt drinks, spilt food, and a very disinterested barmaid. The menus she gave us were wet through, and she made no attempt to clear away and clean up any of the tables, despite there being opportunities to do so.We closed out our drinks tab (it took us all of 2 sips of the drink to agree we did not want to stay for lunch afterall) and she simply shrugged her shoulders at us when we explained why we were leaving.I would recommend the management cleans up their act before expecting clients to return here.

I have on a few occasions tried to get a table at The Vine without booking ahead and failed on each attempt, so finally I got organised and booked a table. I decided to go for two starters - I don't eat meat so the choice on mains was a little limited for me, plus I thought I would be more likely to have room for dessert! So I started with the pancake with creamy mushroom and cheese filling, followed by the Smoked Haddock fishcake with poached egg. Both courses were delicious and I really didn't need to eat dessert, however the Creme Brulee flavoured with Drambuie was just too tempting so I squeezed it in anyway. I now understand why this place is so popular! The food was great and reasonably priced. The choice of wine is also good, my glass of Temperanillo hit the spot. The service was friendly and efficient and there was a buzzy atmosphere. I will definitely be going back!

Great gastropub. I'm particularly partial to the chips and their desserts! May need to book at weekends as it gets busy!

Worst afternoon tea ever. Only ham or egg sandwiches, a few macaroons and the smallest burnt scones ever! Was told the oven was broken so they couldn’t cook the cakes properly. Service was also very slow.

A very enjoyable meal served in nicely furnished, clean but cosy surroundings. An inviting atmosphere, which was just the 'right level' of busy when we were there. Hot food on hot plates, with noticeably better vegetarian options than the norm. It was just what we wanted. Service from Katelyn was warm and professional, and we will certainly return when we're in the area again.

Excellent food cooked by Liz as always! Excellent and welcoming service from Becky N, Seriously recommend their Surf and Turf and new flatbreads! Also a great selection of Gluten Free choices. Congratulations to Amy on your new role, it’s great to be back :)

Sat at a table and one of the chefs bashed into my table spilling my newly bought drink. The manager (walking two seconds behind her) then decided to bring me beer mats because "your table is a bit of a mess. I hope you appreciate the fact I bought these over for you" I then ordered a small breakfast. Whilst eating it I was interrupted by a member of staff sweeping under my table whilst I was eating. She even bashed my foot with the broom whilst I was eating. That food on the floor was there before I arrived. I felt extremely embarrassed by the fact that I was being victimized just because a member of staff had walked into my table and I was blamed for it, and that I could not eat my meal in peace (no where else would interrupt a guest's meal in this way) I have added a photo of one of the pieces of (not my) food, that the memeber of staff was trying to get from under my feet as I was eating.

Last week dinner service was terrible, the waitress could hardly speak a word of English and got my order all wrong and then didn’t understand why! She asked me 3 times what wine I would like and still brought the wrong one. Tables are always sticky. Last night service was a bit better but I knocked my fork on the floor when the waiter was right there yet he didn’t pick it up or being me another one. This morning, last weeks waitress is on, table extremely sticky and again she didn’t understand what my order was so goodness knows what I’ll get. Oh had the meal deal but had to pay for the additional chicken on the noodles. That’s unfair I think, who is going to order just a bowl of noodles and no protein?
