Costa Coffee in Birmingham

This review is mainly applied to the service on Sunday 05-Oct. Just to be clear, it is to the kiosk by the information desk rather than the one in the canteen. As a hospitality in the hospital, we don't expect much of “cusomer service“. However, based on the "not-too-high" expectations, the lady's attitude is intolerantly pathetic. I don't know how much effort Costa would like to put on employee quality, but it is highly suggested to hire someone nicer for your business brand image, pleased.

When I pay almost £5 for a flat white I expect top quality coffee. What I got was a bucket of a hot brown liquid whose coffee taste was obliterated by far too much scalding hot milk. Obviously not a hint of microfoam produced by the poorly trained children who produced this sad excuse for a flat white (yes it took 2 and they still failed to clean the grind basket before drawing a new shot - my pet hate). Given there were a total of 6 staff on duty the coffee prep area was in a poor state of cleanliness.

I’ve been going to this Costa for over a year. The service is impeccable, the staff (Chris and Destiny) always remember my order and make it slightly different to other stores! The entire team present themselves as energetic and welcoming whenever I go there, 9am or 6pm, same energy throughout the day even during busy periods!

SOME of the staff were lovely....one was just plain rude. Told me the area I'd been sat in for the last three hrs was closed and accused me of barging past!!! Your in a hospital love to pop will look see are stressed out worrying about their loved ones, the last thing they need is a judgemental staff memberaking assumptions!! Of all places, this one needs staff with empathy and understanding, not judgemental reactions

Staff rude, coffee luke warm, smallest Rocky Road i've ever had, asked for a plate & a china cup/mug - Rudely answered NO ! , i'd just spent £18 - asked for a fraperchino NO -it's to late we had to move from the table @ 5:35 as they were closing not meant to close until 6:00 way overpriced & rude staff won't use again will bring my own

Worst service of all time. Took 15 minutes for us to get served and the line was barely moving. The staff seemed to be doing nothing behind the counter whilst there were 15 people waiting in the queue. Terrible customer service and lazy staff.

Hi Ranjit , I know you are not in a good mood today. I hope u are well but u were rude to me today. I know you just came to work early and I am off from my 24hrs shift. Im sorry that your eyes couldnt scan the discount on my phone whilst showing you the barcode just for some courtesy. It's appalling!! It's filthy most of the time. Tables rarely cleaned. Always have to ask for table cleaning. Was even told that cleaning tables was the responsibility of customers! Yes! I was actually told that! Rubbish, food debris everywhere, cigarette smoke wafting in, bins overflowing. Paint falling off door frames. Scruffy incompetent staff. Huge queues the result. Uncomfortable & inadequate seating. Expensive - a world away their Ludlow branch (& the lovely staff there) & ALL this in a premier UK HOSPITAL!!!!! Unbelievable!!! Truly unbelievable! Mr. Costa should pay a surprise visit!

Awful service although a few tables still open to sit on, was asked to leave halfway through meal as they were closing area to clean. Surely existing customers already seated, should be allowed to finish their drinks and food. Staff rude. Staff behind counter pleasant but felt it was unacceptable to ask people to move midway, because they wanted to clean. I will not be going back.

Absolute joke this place! Staff were bickering about milk options rather than serving the people in the queue which was building up fast! The bold guy with ginger beard and glasses gets orders wrong all the time! Like you literally tell him the order and he just goes and does a complete opposite. Why he is even there if he can't get orders right? I do not have time to stand there and make sure he makes the right drink! So by the time I've noticed it, i was too far to return! And most of the staff always grumpy instead 'hi, what can I get you today' you get 'what do you want'...

Absolutely terrible service, Luke warm coffee, rude staff! Could it get any worse? I basically had to ask for my money back as the staff refused to heat my milk above 120°F! Basically told me it wasn't possible!!! I worked for Costa for 4 years and I've never heard of anything so ridiculous, and this is the only Costa I've had a problem with! It's a complete joke!

9.30 am in the morning Almost empty, and dirty tables and floors, don't look like they were cleaned today, looks like yesterday's mess, Lazy workers. All standing around doing nothing, and this is a hospital,

This place was a bit of an oasis!! Really great coffee, made how you like it. Great toasted sandwiches. Very helpful staff. Needed to be just a bit more professional, but they were so busy, ALL of the time, a bit of lightness in the day was probably needed just to keep them going.

A nice Costa in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. More seating available than it may at first seem to have. A good selection of cakes. Friendly efficient staff.

came into the store today, not under the best circumstances but Chris served us with a smile and gave us the nicest coffee’s we’ve had for a while, had a chat whilst he made our drinks and he made us laugh whilst we waited. Unfortunately the rest of the team didnt seem to smile or look like they wanted to be there. Store overall seemed messy and we were rushed out as they were closing the seating area, only to be directed to another place to sit by chris, again, incredibly helpful and charismatic. Over all store is worth zero stars but due to Chris I have given them 5*

My server, Chris was such a top guy he made us feel so welcome and there wasn’t the item I wanted but he told me he can help me with something just as nice and you know what it was really nice. I really wish there was more customer service people like him as it was like he knew me and my family. He took my mind off what was going on in my life bless him he deserves a raise!!!

We have had coffees and snacks at your Costa QE Birmingham Hospital on the 23 rd of November 2022. Your team of employees are absolute super stars. Chris has served us a few times. Service was amazing his sense of humour and compassion is above excellent Chris and the team that were on duty around 12pm 23/11/22 need a pat on the back and a big thank you. I went to the store today. Absolutely terrible, the Hygiene of the place is disgusting. The staff were were not polite at all. One member of staff mixed 2 milk bottles together although the lids we different. I went in to order a coffee and the grounded coffee was all over the counter flys flying all over the shop. All round disappointed. I will not be shopping here again

Probably one of the best Costa Coffee shops, Staff always poilet and very welcoming feel at ease ordering and not getting rushed, drinks perfectly made. SERVICE WITH A SMILE & SERVED THE PERFECT DRINK...

I ordered a cappuccino and I was very dissatisfied as they hadn't made it correctly. I told the lady who was working at the coffee machine that it wasn't made correctly and she sarcastically replied that she'd "try again". I told her that I didn't have time and she muttered something in another language to me. If I have to spend so much money on a cappuccino, I want a cappuccino.

I have been an inpatient at QEHB for the past 3 weeks . Being very unwell initially and on the step to rehabilitation, I have visited Costa a few times to get my favourite drinks . I found the staff very caring and had a 1:1 approach in understanding what I prefer. Each time , they have almost remembered exactly what I was going to order and showed respect, compassion, sense of humour in offering my drinks from the ordering to the collection process. I am currently starting to feel better in myself and I believe many regular staff at this Costa have been restorative for my ongoing rehabilitation. Thank you QEHB Costa team . I will never forget your smiles and the lovely drinks you offered me.Please share this comment with all the staff at this Costa to make them feel proud of what they do and the impact it has had on patients❤️

Lovely coffee and wouldn't really recommend sausage bap as tasted bit rubbery when I asked I thought this was cooked fresh not heated out fridge but couldn't refuse after I asked for one

The service is so slow and painful. Today I waited 30 minutes for a coffee when the queue wasn't even that long with 5 members of staff working.

Good coffee and amazing customer service found here! I sat in the seated area and witnessed some of the best cafe customer service ever. Many people were served very quickly and without any fuss or frustration on display. Groups of paramedics, patients, hospital staff and visitors were all involved in some form of conversation during order taking and whilst making collections. I was really surprised for some reason. It was good to see. One member of staff went above and beyond helping me with a phone issue I had and considering the circumstances of why I am at the QE today waiting she has no idea how much I value that gesture of kindness. I feel that the management of this cafe should recognise and reward all the team members working today as they really are doing a great job and are a credit to Costa Coffee. They did not run out of friendliness, enthusiasm and energy in all the time I was here over 2 hours during peak times on a Saturday. Thank you.

Staff aren’t as friendly as they used to be, service is slow even though enough people making drinks. Service needs improving.

Used click and collect - the pick up point was not obvious to me so I queued up for 5 mins. When at the front of the queue the member of staff pointed in a direction and said I hadn’t looked hard enough. Another staff member was nice enough to show me and apologised - hence the 2 stars. Tried next day - they gave me a bacon bap instead of sausage - reduced to 1 star!

Service and coffee was good but the bacon roll was nasty im 99% sure the bacon in it is not meat don't ever have one

Very rude staff, black woman (didn't catch her name unfortunately) serving had a very bad attitude! Clearly had no training in how to speak to customers. I understand it might get busy and stressful but her customer service skills are appalling! I work in retail and am shocked. Not good service!

One rude member of staff who tried to accuse me wrongly of cutting the queue because she hadn't being paying attention to her job. The rest were friendly enough. Drinks ok. Not normally one to write reviews but she has really annoyed me especially in a hospital environment where you need to have more sensitivity to your customers.

Very poor today no cream for Xmas drinks range. No syrups for black forest or purple Xmas range. Full price still expected. Staff did not seem to have full grasp of their jobs.

Such slow service, you will often spend at least 20 minutes in a queue, coffee is fine if you get to order any without giving up. Also got my food order wrong twice in one visit. Because why be useless if you can't really commit?

No sign of anyone wiping the tables between customers, unbelievable in the current climate and in a hospital too

Staff were ok. Just a bit slow and didnt trally have time to be all that great with us. However the drinks were nice and hot. So cant complain too much.

My order was forgotten and served wrong, it was supposed to be an eat in and it was given to me in a paper cup as a last though, I waited 5 mins for it and the people behind me got their order's first. I did not get a very polite response when I stated to the lady that it was an eat in order, who then tipped it into a glass. Appawling customer service! I will not be drinking here once I start work as a nurse! You have lost a customer ☹️

It OK coffee not strong enough for me

Costa is in the Odeon. I usually sit there in befor, after and in between films. Sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. I arrange to meet others there as well. The staff r friendly and helpful. Pity I cannot use the receipts in my 'receipt hog' game.

Poor service. Well done for reducing wasrage and plastic....Asked for coffee to drink in and they only serve take away cup do to short of staff. ...mean they don't want to wash. Waited 13 minute for nothing. ...

They don't take Costa gift cards, despite being a Costa. I'm very glad I asked first, otherwise I would have been left in a very awkward position.

My vanilla latte tasted off today. Had to throw it away, then called to let you know and your phone isn't working.

Whilst waiting in the queue for a drink at my most recent visit. I was appalled to see the lack of help or acknowledgement when a gentleman in the queue next to me was bleeding badly and none of the staff would help, after me asking for help etc to help care for the man I was not acknowledged so therefore had to take care of it myself! I know they are not medically trained and this gentleman was okay although slightly embarrassed that the staff had left him there! however this could have been more serious and the slow response and lack of action would have been absolutely unacceptable.

Really nice here friendly, helpful staff. Tables cleared and cleaned efficiently. Lovely atmosphere,, I feel this Is down to the staff . I would give it more stars if I could .

A bit expensive. Sometimes have to have in a que for a longer time during the busy hours. However sandwiches and cakes are quite good. Coffee is satisfactory

Sometimes very busy but the staff are quick and the drinks and cakes are exactly what you would expect. There is no dedicated toilet but plenty available in the hospital. Lots of seating is available with tables and chairs spread over the area of the canteen and shop. A good range of cakes makes this Costa one of the best.

Has quite a bit of seating, is the nicer cafe of the various ones in the hospital.

I stopped by Costa whilst visiting the hospital. There is plenty of room to sit down and staff are friendly and efficient. There is a separate queue for the sit down to the take away as take away is quite popular. In my 2 visits I sat in on both occasion. Once I had my coffee in a proper glass and the second I had a take away paper cup, despite sitting in. A little disappointed with that to be honest.

Visited 11.30am mid week. Chaos. No organisation. Service not good. ‘Manager’ was clearing out the rubbish instead of leading his team. Meanwhile no teaspoons, milk jugs and no apology when customers asked. Think when people in hospital and possibly not feeling great better service would go a long way

I would have rated a below 0 if I could. The staff idles too much, there is no care when they do your latte. But it's more frustrating how much they play around and not customer orientated at all.

Seem to always get custom orders wrong. It's as if the till staff don't communicate with there team members.

Franchise of Costa so they don't accept any vouchers such as those from wuntu. They do accept Costa loyalty cards though.
