I can’t rate this place highly enough. We went for lunch today with our two young toddlers. The people there were incredibly accommodating to us and even gave an extra portion of ice cream for free to my little ones! The food was very fresh, beautifully cooked, large portions for all. They were attentive, but not in your face (which we appreciate very much). Very kind and overall a lovely atmosphere. We’ve been several times before, but will definitely keep going. Thanks (By the way, lovely fresh and chunky chips! Better than a lot of chippies round here!)

I’ve loved Headcorn’s village tea room for many years. It’s a classic, unpretentious tea room with good, hearty food at good value for money. It could definitely afford to be pretentious, with its vintage charm, prime spot on the high street and alcohol licence, but the fact it’s stayed true to being an old fashioned tea room makes me love it ever more. I’ll always be a returning customer!

My step son his wife and their two teenage children treated my husband and I to a breakfast on Fathers Day. They live in Australia and are here for a visit to family and friends. We were quickly served for hot drinks and soon placed our orders and were very happy once our food arrived we all enjoyed everything we ordered the cooked breakfast was huge and hot the pancakes went down a treat and the scrambled egg and salmon was great. Unfortunately I didn’t realise how big the breakfast was so couldn’t manage to eat all of mine. We were all impressed with the service and food. We will return and try lunch next time. Our waitress was brilliant. Thank you for a lovely experience.

Always had good food and good service here, took my wife there today to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We both had ham salad, and weren't disappointed, really nice thickly cut ham, good presentation, and as always, made to feel so welcome. Food is a bit on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. I Don't mind paying for good quality.

Our meals were average to poor I would have expected more for the price I can only assume there was not a chef in the kitchen or an experienced caterer. Food presentation was very disappointing. I was a bit apprehensive as previous reviews were pretty mixed. I am a local motorcyclist and do visit quite a few cafes and tearooms for breakfast (it's what bikers do). I opted for the small breakfast which was actually quite nice. The sausage was more like a chipolata but was very tasty. The egg although had fat on where it hadn't been drained properly but wasn't too bad. I was offered 'bubble and squeak' which was also nice. The toast came to my surprise with a pot of marmalade which was a nice touch. When I went to pay, I was a bit disappointed to be charged £2 extra for the 'bubble and squeak' as it wasn't clear that this was an extra and I think took the price to the same as the full breakfast. At £12.95 it was a little more expensive that what I consider to be a typical price but the food was quite nice. Will I come again? Yes, I will knowing what to expect as I like to visit different places but I will add it to my 'B' list and will try a few other establishments that are close by.

Staff were very friendly on arrival. We’ve been to the tea rooms many times before and my husband always had scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Wary of having scrambled eggs as I know they aren’t always very nice when not home cooked I asked my husband if he would recommend, which he Sadly we had to send the eggs back as they were hard, solid, overcooked and rubbery. The waitress was apologetic and took them back. After approximately 10 minutes we were presented with another plate. The eggs were a little less hard, the butter didn’t reach the edge or the toast and the salmon was fridge cold. Very sad, owner or chef has obviously changed and we won’t be going back.

Happened to be in Headcorn today, so I popped in the tearooms seeing as I’ve heard so much about it! On arrival , we was approached by a lovely young waitress, who told us to take a seat and would we like any drinks while we was browsing through the menu. They have a huge variety of different food; From breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals. We opted for the Ham, Egg & Chips that comes with a baguette . I was rather disappointed as the ham ,that is supposedly so popular, came out rather chewy and thick. The eggs and chips was okay, edible I would say. And unfortunately the baguette was over baked , if I ate I would have needed to take a trip to the dentist! After eating what I could, another lovely professional waitress, who I presumed was the manager or in charge, cleared my plate and asked if I would like anything else. The homemade cake (coffee + walnut) was delicious! And went down a treat with my vanilla milkshake (made from ice cream!). All of the girls made me feel so welcome and comfortable!! Overall, I will be returning, however next time maybe I’ll go for something else!

I had a lovely lunch - perfect jacket potato about a month or so ago - went back twice recently and really disappointed with the food. First time the jacket potato was terribly undercooked and hard! They assured me it was oven baked but it was almost raw in places. And today opted for the pancakes with a friend and they were incredibly thick and stodgy. Came with a slice of lemon and the pips got into our teeth. They gave us a sugar pourer that didn’t work. We couldn’t eat them it just tasted like raw batter. Plus the orange juice tasted like a budget supermarket brand. Very disappointed- come on Village Tea Rooms up your game we don’t want every to go to Costa!!

We can honestly say that we’ve never experienced such awful customer service like we did today. It just got worse and worse from the moment we sat down. Table dirty and wobbly, asked server for children’s menu for my 16 month old and was told there were no menus or vegetarian options for children. We were sat for 20 mins after asking for an Hugh chair and then was told there isn’t any. So our 16 month old had to sit on a wooden chair or our laps. Our (cold drinks) were room temperature. Our food was missing items and when we raised this, the attitude from the staff was shockingly unpleasant. We will never be returning. Awful, avoid!! Absolutely appalled by the service by the manager of this place. My very young son was playing very quietly with some toys which another family in the cafe did not like. Instead of talking about it politely and sensibly they instantly complained to the manager. The manager then proceeded to tell off my family despite them not doing anything and then would not listen to them when they tried to explain what had happened. I came here a few weeks back as I heard about the homemade chips, which were fantastic! A great recommendation. I decided to come back this morning for breakfast as I was in the area. Young girl serving was great, very efficient and friendly (blonde hair, didn’t catch her name) breakfast ordered promptly. Dining area wasn’t busy. Disappointed with the food quality, tasted as if it had been sat there all morning, bacon like leather, sausage raw in the middle and two fried eggs covered in luke warm beans , ordered brown toast, received white toast. Coffee was great, but lots of opportunities missed! No offer for another coffee, which I would of gladly accepted, no check back to ensure all was ok. Another girl who I saw at the till took the sausage off the bill after I mentioned it …?But just let down by the service and food quality. Such a shame, as it’s a quaint little place.

We arrived and went to the counter, all the staff members where behind the till and having a general chat and moaning and it was only after their discussion finished they decided to acknowledge us. The waiter came to the table in a timely manner but when we asked if they did soy milk the waiter was quite un reassuring and answered with a “erm I think so” she then took the rest of the order. When she brought the drinks out she put them on the table and didn’t tell us if the drink was made with soy milk, we had to ask. I had what was labelled as a fresh apple juice for £2 but this was a tiny cup with what tasted like tescos own apple juice and looked like dish water the size alone was disappointing for the price. When the food came it looked quite appetising, I had the Chicken Curry and my girlfriend had a tuna baguette. The curry came with Nann bread and mango Chutney this was very nice however the curry wasn’t as good and I was quite disappointed. The sauce had a very odd over powered flavour which made the meal hard to eat. The rice came in a nice compact ball and tasted alright. The tuna baguette was overly stuffed with tuna, we had to take half of it out. The coleslaw was runny and made her feel sick. On top of this not once did anyone check on us to ensure we where happy and the food was nice.We ended up covering out plates with napkins and after 10 minutes of the waiters not noticing us I got up went to the till and after dealing with the same ignorant staff for a 2nd time I paid the bill and left. It’s such a shame as there was so much potential for it to be amazing but terrible service and poor food let us down.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The Village tea rooms has been a regular haunt of ours everytime we visit Headcorn, however the last few visits we have had issues with being overcharged. On one occasion we were charged extra for coffees even though they were included in the price of the full English breakfast. Therefore now we always tally up what our bill should be before going up and paying. Today when my husband was ordering his food he asked the waitress for cheesy chip instead of the regular chips with his meal, as he has done several times in the past, when the food arrived it came with regular chips plus a portion of cheesy chips separately, when we pointed out this was not what was ordered, the waitress replied 'can't you eat the cheesy chips and leave the plain ones', we asked her to take them away as we didn't want to incur the extra cost due to her error, to which she was clearly not impressed, even though it was her fault. At the end of our meal we went to pay, having tallied up the bill, and was given a price of £3.70 more than it should have been, I explained about the mix up with the chips and was told they had taken them off. When she added it up again I noted that she has an extra order attached to our bill for tea and a coke that were nothing to do with us, thus was obviously someone else's bill that had been stapled to ours, assumingly by mistake, she insisted that we had had the extra drinks, at this point I became frustrated and stated I was only paying for food we had had and not someone else's drinks. At this point she accepted, we paid and left. I'm not writing this review to put people off from eating here because the tearoom itself is very pleasant, especially the garden on a nice day and the food is excellent, however the attitude and the accuracy of some of the staff has a lot to be desired, so the message is, tally up your bill from the menu to avoid being overcharged.

A warm late July lunch time saw my wife and I plus two friends visiting. The place is much bigger than you may imagine. Limited seating at the front outside, a very capacious seating area inside, and more seating outside at the rear. Pleasant waitress showed us to a table at the rear. We collectively ordered a pot of tea for four. Plus an all day breakfast and three lighter lunch dishes. The tea arrived some time before the food. In fact, we had pretty much finished our tea before the food appeared. I did observe some stains on the milk jug. The food was very nice and reasonably priced. I get the impression that they have too few staff for such a large capacity venue and it was very busy when we arrived. All in all though OK.

Let me start by saying that what we ate and drank was very nice and good value for money. However, during our visit both on Sunday, 11th July and the previous Saturday, 3rd July, the same situation happened on both occasions. We ordered the Village Afternoon Tea which comes with 2 scones, jam, cream and a pot of tea. But, the pot of tea and my separate coffee arrived 15 minutes before the scones did. Surely the whole purpose of afternoon tea is to have the tea WITH the scones and not before it. We will return again at some point and if I have to ask for the drinks NOT to be brought out until the food is ready, then so be it. I just wouldn’t expect to have to do that. Oh, and one other thing. The tea cup had a nasty crack running through it. There’s enough germs about at the moment with COVID. Please let’s not add insult to injury

Very disappointed in our visit to the tea rooms today, on arrival we sat down, ordered our drinks, we got hot chocolates, but the lady walked away too quick for me too say I wanted the works. As she came back literally 5 seconds later I asked for the works, and she huffed and walked back to tell someone and came back too take our food order. We ordered the all day breakfasts and I wanted to swap my tomato for mushrooms, or even just get rid of the tomato (which in most establishments is not a problem, and where I work would always allow swaps) but was told it was an “incidental” and has to be on the plate. My hot chocolate turned up and as I was eating the cream and marshmallows realised the cup was only half full, which I don’t mind, but I paid extra for the works, too lose half my drink. Food arrived and was lovely, a bit bland but was still enjoyable. It then took around 15 minutes after our plates and cups we’re cleared to put our dessert and drinks order in.Desserts were also lovely. But when we wanted to pay we wanted to split the bill, which should never be a problem in the hospitality industry, but was then told “she had already added it up” in a very snarky voice, which then we said we wanted to split it, and the lady was very hostile and looked like she did not want to be there. From working in this industry myself I’m disgusted by the one ladies attitude, as no matter how long you’ve been working or what mood you’re in, you should always serve with a smile on your face, and make your customers feel comfortable. The other younger waitresses were lovely! Also allowing swaps on your food will make people feel comfortable and make them know you care about their needs while in your company, build a bond with customers. Don’t push them away.Won’t be back after this as my family have been regulars here for years, and loyalty definitely isnt rewarded with good service.

I have had breakfast there with friends a few times and it is always very good. I like their big breakfast and when I have it I don't have to eat again until our evening supper. The food and service are very good, but the restaurant is a bit dated but it's clean and comfortable. I will go there again next time I'm in the area.

Went here with my wife for lunch. I had a fry up and my wife had chilli con carne. You can’t go wrong whatever you order here, good portions, good price and very good staff. The only thing I can complain about is the undesirables that frequent this place, always loud, rude , kids running about wildly and they seem to think it’s ok to steal from the drink fridge also the kids putting there fingers in the cakes, so I would advise against having any of them.

Called in on the off chance for lunch and I am glad that we did. In these unusual times, this is a safe place to eat. The staff wore masks (and customers were asked to wear them in the public areas). Social distancing is clearly marked on the floor. There's plenty of hand sanitiser available (there is even a bottle on each table). Other than that, the menu gives a good choice, the staff are very friendly and helpful and it is dog friendly (ours was even given her own bowl of water).

Went for breakfast today with my wife and son, and as always the food and service were great!Obviously, the coronavirus situation has necessitated a number of changes, and these were also spot on - screens between tables, sanitiser available on each table, staff wore masks etc. It's important to feel safe during these unusual times. We certainly did so, and will happily return again whether or not the current restrictions remain in place. Thank you for a great meal!

Just popped into the village tea room in Headcorn for breakfast. Was a bit unsure of going out toeat (first time since lockdown). I needn’t have worried. The tea rooms were spotless with hand gel on each table and glass partitions. The staff were friendly and I would throughly recommend that you go and enjoy a meal there in the knowledge that you are in safe hands.

We have visited many times in the past, pre virus, and have always been very satisfied. This our first visit since lockdown. Very impressed with the efforts made to encourage social distancing, hand sanitiser etc. Staff were gloved and masked up, stood away to take your order, and gave a choice between paper cups, plates etc, or sterilised cutlery and crockery. We chose the latter, ordered a pot of tea, one bacon and one sausage sandwich. Both delicious. Will return on our way back. Well done to all.

Called in for tea and scones and just managed to get a table as we coincided with some people leaving. Our scones were lovely and the place had a nice atmosphere. It took a little time to take our order but this was fine as the place was very busy and we weren't in a rush. The place is full of art which is all for sale. The food was lovely and the prices reasonable.

We've been here on several occasions as my nanny likes it here, but never again.I've never felt so unwelcome in somewhere that I'm spending money! They didn't welcome us, we're rude throughout the entire process of ordering and waiting for our food (even making rude comments about us and rolling their eyes from behind the till) and then they cleaned up around is, leaving a stinking mop and bucket by my side to continue the job when we left.If we hadn't been so hungry we would have left immediately, as it was we ate as quickly as we could and got out of there. We think they were annoyed they had to continue working, but as we arrived 50 minutes before closing and we were gone by twenty five minutes to I don't know what their problem was.Great food, horrible women, we will never be back.

Tucked into bacon, eggs, hash brown, mushrooms , tomato’s and beans absolutely delicious, freshly cooked and excellent quality. My other dining companions also had “normal” breakfasts which were equally delicious and they ate their food with as much enjoyment and relish as I did. Very clean premises would highly recommend.

A great place for lunch (closes 4.30pm). From the outside I got the impression it was a small tea-time establishment, but was wrong. They do serve fantastic teas, but they also have an extensive lunchtime menu, with wine list. The place is much larger than it first appears, as it has a large rear dining room and a cute outside dining area for brighter days. The food arrived quickly and was delicious. I would be happy to go back and try another dish.

I remember coming here as a child and getting a hot chocolate which was always the best, I recently revisited today and noticed that there have been some changes such as more tables and an outside “secret” garden, which although there was no tables outside we happily went inside. The menu has a range of classics along with a range of drinks. We had the breakfast which was great value and made with quality ingredients. I especially liked the fact there was an option of beans or mushrooms. The service was fast and all staff members were friendly. I would happily recommend this to anyone.

I came in at lunchtime expecting to be too late for a breakfast fry up, and was told they serve breakfast all day. They sat me down as soon as I entered, and my order was taken straight away. My food came out in less than 5 minutes and it was the best breakfast I’ve had in years. The portions were a good size and was a good size tea pot too. Came to less than £20 for the two of us for a breakfast each and a pot of tea for 2. Would recommend to everyone if near Headcorn.

We came here for lunch before we visited the big cat sanctuary. It was a random tea room it is quite large even though from the front it looks small we originally sat outside we asked for a high chair they only had booster seats which looked like they have been around since the 80’s it was completely unusable for a ten month old it would more suit a 3 year old that couldn’t quite reach the table. Luckily we brought our travel high chair so we used that instead. When ordering the lady at the counter checked that the person who ordered a prawn baguette wasn’t allergic to prawns!? (Surely they wouldn’t order if they were?) we were also told that if it starts spitting with rain they won’t bring our food outside so being a mixed weather day we decided we best move in so we would receive our food! The baguette was nice, home made chips were greasy. The interior was dated but clean. Wouldn’t rush back but filled a hole.

Lovely cakes as always but just a word of warning * NUT ALLERGIES BE AWARE * Firstly peanut butter brownies are in the display with multiple other brownies. Not ideal for anyone with allergies. The lady that served us had to be told not to use the same tongs on the peanut products as other products when serving us too. It’s a good job my partners nut allergy is not too severe otherwise we would have to avoided this place. I will be cautious when buying from here again. This was the first time I’ve had anything near an issue with this place so hope it was an anomaly.

Pret A Manger has been my go-to spot for my daily coffee for a while now, and I can’t recommend it enough! The coffee is always spot on, just how I like it, and the food is always fresh and tasty. But what really makes this place special is the people. The staff are so friendly and always greet you with a smile, which really brightens up my mornings. You can tell the manager has built a great team here because they all work so well together and seem genuinely happy to be there. It’s not just a coffee shop to me—it’s a place where I feel welcomed every day. If you’re looking for a cozy spot with great coffee and even better people, this is it!

Throughout the past 13 years, we as a family understand why The George is because we are always welcomed and everyone just welcomes you.
