Well, this wonderful, weee shop and tearoom is well and truly open and what a place it is. We popped in after a 6 mile walk starting and ending in Compton to take a look and couldnt resist the cakes in view. Rarely do you find a tea room or cafe that truly stands by its statment of 'home made' cakes. Delicious, moist and well portioned. And....as Maggie Smith, bless her, made clear...'tea should be served in a pre heated tea pot!' Well it was..... The shop also has a colourful and wide range of organic and locally made produce. well worth a stop on your adventures.

Wonderful experience would recommend Compton tea rooms, very friendly staff that went out of their way to accommodate. Lovely sandwiches with very fresh bread and filled to brim filling, delicious cake and cup of tea to finish our experience. Will definitely go back to this delightful place.

Very poor experience, we will not visit again. Unfortunately our “traditional afternoon tea” bought in advance to celebrate a special day was so disappointing that we feel compelled to write a review. It was difficult enough to book as I was told afternoon tea couldn’t be booked after 2pm. This is traditional afternoon tea ! We booked earlier so as not to cause a problem. We expected “the tea room” to be really busy but it was not. There were empty tables. Food wise - the sandwich fillings were good but the bread (white only, no choice given ) was dried out on some sandwiches making them difficult to eat. 2 small slices of sausage roll each were by far the best and tastiest thing provided to eat. The scone was fresh but only a really tiny amount of clotted cream to share between 2 and airplane type pre packaged portion of unexciting jam each. We were expecting some cake, after all this was traditional tea, however a slice of poor, tasteless homemade bread pudding given can not be considered to be cake. Bread pudding tends to be made from left over bread so we felt we were paying high prices to solve a problem of left over bread from the shop. The bread pudding was not nice, the mixture had not been mixed properly so much of it was just soaked bread with no spices. A tiny portion of homemade dry shortcake /crumble? (unidentifiable) was also given but it was inedible as it tasted so horrible and overly sweet and was incredibly dry and just made us cough. No choice was offered. The display in the shop showed some chocolate tray bake but we were not offered this. There was a huge tin of the bread pudding to get rid of. There was no traditional cake on display at all. I see from past reviews that good and interesting sounding cake used to be on offer. This experience was miss-sold. Poor sandwiches with stale bread followed by bread pudding (which was not nice) made of more stale bread is not a traditional tea and certainly not value for the high price paid. We did not feel that the owners and staff cared about customers and their experience. It has been important to write this as the overall reviews for this establishment are very misleading. We do not want anyone else to be so misled. A shame as the village is pretty to visit. Compared to other afternoon tea experiences, this is the worst we have experienced ever.

We arrived for lunch and it was very busy with people sitting inside and out. A very friendly staff member said they were very busy. We ordered lunch and drinks. The food and drinks arrived very quickly and were delicious. Both sandwiches came with crisps and coleslaw. A bustling, busy, friendly place to visit, with fab, freshly prepared food. Also very dog friendly

I have cycled to this cafe twice in the last four weeks and both times have had a double espresso. The first time the coffee was poor the second time it was awful and the worst coffee I have ever had. The cafe stocks a good espresso machine but the staff need to be taught how house it and be trained in what makes for a good coffee. I won't be back.

This is a lovely tearoom with outside seating too. It’s very popular with walkers and cyclists and offers the best coffee, cake and sandwiches in the area. The owner and staff are lovely and are very friendly and welcoming. It’s always a pleasure to visit.

I visited with a group of cyclists. We have been here many times because they encourage cyclists. I was amazed! A special Sunday deal for cyclists was £4.50 for a bacon sandwich and a hot drink. Today we were told that the deal has ended due to increase in prices from theis suppliers. That's understandable BUT the price has gone from £4.50 to £7.95!!!! Interestingly we were the only cyclist's there this morning, we may never return.

Over the years we have visited Compton tea rooms and shop and have never been disappointed, however on our last visit the cakes were not up to their usual standard and what is going on with the plastic tacky flowers everywhere!!!! We wondered whether the business had ‘changed hands’ but were told it’s still run by the same family. Please bring back the corgette and lime cake and others from previous years. I feel bad writing this review as realise it’s very difficult running a small business but this is constructive criticism!

Passed by chance and so glad we did. This is such a charming cafe with wonderful friendly staff who were so helpful. I was after a cheese scone and the lady told me some were just about to come out of the oven if I could wait a few minutes, so a few minutes later beautiful fresh from the oven scones, delicious. It’s also spotless, bright and cheerful, lovely place.

We have wanted to visit this little tea room for a very long time. Today was the day. How very disappointed we were. Not having been inside before we headed to the back of the premises where the cakes were displayed and drinks prepared. I asked the assistant if we ordered at the counter and she retored "at the till please", which was at the front of the shop. We ordered a decaff tea and a latte. We sat inside in their tea room area - four bar stool type seats facing the window/outside to the square and four tables of two. Only one other (elderly) couple having coffee until ... a group of male cyclists came in loudly talking and laughing, no masks on and began rearranging all the tables and chairs without a concern for anyone else in the place. We realised all the "take aways=" drinks were being prepared ahead of ours (despite behind ordered after) and what should have been a quick drink ended up with a wait of over ten minutes to be served. Sadly, we will not return to this place ... a complete and utter let down.

Al fresco lunch under a gazebo in drizzly conditions. The menu was small, but perfect for a light lunch. I had a toastie (I actually asked for a sandwich l, but I was happy) with cheddar and good quality ham on malted bread, washed down with a delicious and refreshing pineapple, mango and passion fruit smoothie... all for £9. Friendly staff too. Will definitely be back.

I love using the Compton village shop both for its welcoming ambience and for the interesting variety of things available, seven different types of hummus, for example. It also has a great range of fruit and vegetables, which is unusual in small village shops. Under lockdown they haven’t been able to keep the cafe open, but I look forward to going there in April when it reopens. The shop and the cafe staff are warm, and welcoming and it is a wonderful place to stop in the middle of a walk or bike ride. I go there most days.

Although they’ve faced a few days of closure it doesn’t take away from the brilliance of the food they serve, food was done beautifully and the burgers cooked very well. Generous portion sizes and very very thick and tasty milkshakes I will definitely be returning. Also to note the tables and kitchen are kept quite clean and there was wasn’t much mess on the floor round the crowded tables which is a good sign the place is being looked after well.
