Very good, friendly staff, pleasant interior. Burgers disappointing, dry bun, little sauce no extras, chips poor. ,maybe an off night.

Often call in for a drink while walking our dog, first time eating here for a long time. Gina and her colleagues were amazing and one of the main reasons we keep coming back. Food was much better than expected. I also decided to book the pub for a special 50th Birthday and have left a separate review for that ***** star review :)

What a wonderful, wonderful pub! A wide variety of ales, ciders and spirits and a food menu that has something for everyone. Generous servings that are well presented and every single staff member had a genuine smile and friendly attitude from the off. Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely going to be visiting on a more regular basis now.

Just moved to the town and want to explore all the pubs here, and this is absolutely the good start. Very classic English bar with history since 1950. Good beer, good vibe and good snacks with friendly staffs.

I’ve found a this place with classic decoration and many beers choices, as well as they have wide range of food menu doesn’t like some other pub only few things, also the taste is more than expected.

Sunday roast was delicious, not a fault was found, had the 3 meats, gammon, beef and turkey all 3 of us left clean plates. Finished with the double chocolate brownies with ice cream.Staff were brilliant and made sure you were happy and needed anything was needed, went and chichester had a Internet problem was local so no card payments, left wife and mother in law as collateral whilst I went to cashpoint but did return and pay after a while 🤣🤣

Good city centre pub. Good choice of beer, including excellent alcohol free. Good food including vegan choices

Great old pub. Great atmosphere and good beers and ales. I've not eaten here but have heard the foods good. Prices are reasonable.

Never seem to have any premium lager

Cosy spots and knooks alongside great areas for groups. great drinks selection, regularly changing guest beers. Staff are great. Log fires. Great range of modern pub food.

Food was a great selection, but unfortunately only warm, and cold by the last mouthfuls! I will certainly ask for food to be hot next time, and did notify the one over worked waitress who kindly deducted our drinks off the bill. I know I could have sent the food back, but the waitress was not available until halfway thru our meals when she kindly checked in with us.

Quite a good atmosphere but food was very average at best. I have never had dry mushy peas before.

Rang to reserve a table and the manager could not have been more condescending or rude. Staff training required, really awful experience.

Wide range of beers and craft lagers on tap, what's not to like! Reasonable prices as well. It was very warm in the pub, however...

Came in for coffee and due to lovely place ended up eating best sausage and mash I’ve had in years!!!! They had a trio of sausages choice. I had large pig in blanket with lovely bacon covering meaty sausage; mash potato with caramelised onion and fresh sage; with sage and onion gravy. Little bits of Cranberry. And fabulous selection of fresh veg well worth every penny. In front of a real fire. Lovely staff

Got a good selection of beers with weird names.

Night we came food portion small/disapointing, and four of the real ales were poor condition or off/bad.. staff lovely.. pub nice... last time was great but not this time 😔

What a find. Stopped in there last night for dinner ahead of picking up the south downs way where we left off. Great food, and some very nice ales. Then, to top off, it was their open mic night. It was a joy to watch as Sarah (I think that was her name), not only performed some great numbers with the house band, but was SO encouraging and created such a supportive atmosphere for some young talent. A great community pub that I wish was my local.

Didn't eat here, just beer and what a selection, I'm so glad it's gone back to a pub and not the sports bar it was.

Every bit as good as I was expecting having visited other pubs in this small group. We visited on Sunday lunchtime so took advantage of the great roast options. Big Smoke cask ales were excellent (altho there was not one single keg beer available which seemed strange in a beer-focused pub. There must have been a reason, but I am not sure what it was.) Service was friendly, attentive and cheery and the food was great. Would certainly recommend this pub and we do hope to return one day soon. It is an excellent choice for those going on to visit The Pallant Gallery just down the road.

Excellent food, ambience, incredibly kind and friendly staff. But why do the staff feel it's acceptable to use foul language when they're chatting within earshot of customers? It's a real shame in such a fantastic pub/eaterie in Chichester. It's making me question whether I really want to return, despite all the upsides.

Thursday night. Only had drinks. It was very empty but with over-loud music. Probably just a typical dead, midweek evening out in Chichester but wouldn't rush to return. Sorry

Lovely little pub, just off the High Street. Totally dog and kid friendly, lovely people and a chicken pie to die for!

Slightly pricey but great beers, which were kept well.

Joined in their street party. Didn't partake in food but sampled plenty of the beers. Fabulous village atmosphere. The band seemed to carry on for hours with limited breaks. Well done to them! Staff friendly and efficient. A general good vibe about the place.

Love this place, very friendly and welcoming staff and some really nice craft beers. We always pop in with our cocker spaniel whenever we are in Chichester!

Great pub and super friendly staff. They host a full-band Open Mic on a Tuesday and it's by far the best night out in the city; rammed full of good people. Highly recommended 👌

Really nice pub with good food and service. The roast is great and the fish and chips looked awesome.

Haven't been to this pub for years. I'm glad I haven't bothered. They don't sell all branded spirits. We asked for Bacardi and coke and they didn't have it! We also asked for a Martini but they had nothing like it. I can't comment on food as we didn't have any. Bar staff were friendly however. Place was clean. Atmosphere not brilliant.

Limited menu but scrummy food. Relaxed atmosphere, staff - particularly our young lady waitress - were happy, knowledgeable and helpful. Our family birthday celebration was made more special with the attention to detail with the dessert, and friendliness of a fellow Scottish diner. Thankyou Hole in the Wall, for a lovely evening and special memories.

I can't praise the young lady behind the bar enough, I popped in on my own she made me feel very welcome and also was very knowledgeable about other bars in the city I may have been interested in visiting. Thank you I will be back

Hides it light down a side street.A shame because if it were on one of the main streets that criss cross the town it would be rammed full.Its a good cool space inside with wooden floors and red brick columns.Good choice of beers,ciders etc. Apparently there is food and live music.

Lovely staff and great real ale, the bar staff were extremely welcoming made me want to stay way past kicking out time, the girl behind the bar with cool dungerees was particularly great at making my time at the great (give her a raise)

Arrived at 12pm today on a Sunday, yes understood it’s Easter. Tables are booked no problem. We asked staff if we could eat there and the one staff member wasn’t sure, did not give a direct answer before replying we can eat at a free table at the front(no one was at any tables in the front at this time). We approached a free table (with no reserved sign)and they have round stools. I took a chair with back support from a table next to me (that had a reserved sign)to replace it with the stool and we did that for my partner as well as the table was reserved but for half an hour later than us and we were told we need to replace those chairs when the others arrive for their reserved table. We got up and left. Not very good in terms of trying to welcome people who have travelled all the way down from London for the day. At the same time I am in recovery from back surgery so need a chair with back support but I’m not going to get into a debate over a chair/stool if we get told we need to put them back when all tables in the front were empty at 12pm! Good luck for the future, I will not support/visit this place again.

For a musician like myself this is the best pub in Chichester by far!

I usually go to the antelope in Surbiton, Surrey but was very pleasantly surprised to find this pub stocking the same brews! Great live music too. Top night out

One of our go to pubs for an after work drink, great selection of beers to choose from. We also enjoyed the open mic night on a Tuesday a few weeks back which was so much fun. We had a roast there today, the beef and lamb were delicious. Only rating 4 stars as the manager who we had for food service could have been better.

Great little pub with great atmosphere. They had a band playing with an open mic, which made for a.great evening. This was on a Tuesday. Would recommend for a fun evening of Live music.

Great place for afternoon/evening meal/drink, really good atmosphere & friendly bar staff, quite busy but we're given a nice cleaned table to sit at, reasonable priced, defo go again, kind of Rob & Kirst, Pagham.

Burger and chips at the hole in the wall today the food was good . Really!! Serving on a baking tray it looked like oven chips with a Burger on the side. If I come back on a plate please .

Randomly stumbled upon this pub when looking for food. Had a really decent roast dinner and some nice beers.

Wow what a great burger! Can’t think of a better one I’ve ever had.. Washed down with some cracking beer, staff are friendly and the atmosphere in the pub is warm and welcoming

Sadly only had a flying visit, a lunchtime beer and sandwich, but the ambience and service were as nice as the Beer and Sandwich.

Since May 2019 this has been a "Big Smoke" pub selling a wide and good choice of real ales and ciders, together with craft keg beers. Food is good too. Only downside is the poor acoustics from the lack of sound absorbing surfaces, which is very noticeable when busy.

Good range of ales and lagers. Staff really friendly and allow you tasters to try before you buy.

Dropped in for some food and drink. Ordered a huge plate of Ribs and Fish and Chips. Excellent pub food. Beer menu is extensive, something for everyone. Would highly recommend

A large pub but had a local feel. Cask ale and cuder from the Big Smoke Brewery plus guests. Sister pub to the Antelope in Surbiton and others own by the above named brewery.

A friendly unpretentious pub. Food well cooked, like goulash and burgers. Good range of beers. Special days, the Thursday steak looks the best but unfortunately we were here on a Wednesday. Good reason to return...

Very dirty place went here left with illness and upset stomach this is a place for people who don't wash their hands after using the toilet yes that is the staff as well and they don't even smell very clean hear don't go unless you really want to get ill
