Stumbled across the cafe whilst visiting family history. Beautiful food, really relaxed friendly staff. Made to feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend this place. Great little shop too.

This is one of our favourite spots for breakfast in East Sussex. It’s a fairly small space so you sometimes have to wait for a table but it’s certainly worth it! The staff are wonderful, incredibly friendly and lots of fun. The cafe has a very light hearted atmosphere that makes you feel immediately welcome. The food is also amazing, their menu has a brilliant range of choice and the build-your-own options mean you can have exactly what you want! Highly recommend!

This is an absolute gem! The people serving and behind the counters are fantastic and super friendly. The food is very good!! Highly recommend the large Dicker breakfast!! There is also a very nice surprise for people ordering mayo :) You really can tell that the people there love what they are doing! Please do yourselves a favour and go for a meal there !!!!!!!

I was working near the area and decided to stop for Coffee. I was so glad how friendly the staff are and the place is cozy and coffee was very good. It was warm inside. Cleanliness is high.

Had to get to Ringmer for an appointment, so googled somewhere on the way, for a breakfast treat. Randomly picked but what a treat it was! The chap behind the counter was funny, friendly and super helpful. I wanted to work there by the end of our visit! Busy, quaint, great food, good choice, reasonable prices. Parking, a bit scary. Would definitely recommend & will be visiting again.

thank you for the lovely welcome today, we enjoyed our food and coffees...the cake was amazing and not dry like some places. I had the chocolate cake , my sister had coffee and walnut. Thank Dan for calling my sister (Tina) as she was outside when our food arrived.. She has been before and will be coming back, and when I am next up from Somerset I will be coming back.

They've absolutely smashed it here. Local shop cum deli cum cafe that is all things to all men. Food was very decent and pretty reasonable and they offered me maybe the hottest hot sauce I've ever encountered - obviously sobbing at the table within minutes. No regrets. Got the soup and sambo combo. Ultimate ride ultimate sacrifice. We will be back. That weird pineapple cake banged also.

We went for brunch on the Saturday and it was very busy as they do takeaway too. Sat outside in the lovely sunshine so not a problem we had to wait a bit longer than usual. When we went back on the Monday it was much quieter so it was quicker service. But the food was fantastic. I did a build a brunch both days, with black pudding, eggs, sausage, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and yummy bubble and squeak. Loads more on offer too!

The food, staff and atmosphere are all fantastic. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly! Dan warmly welcomed us like old friends and is so funny and entertaining. We loved it so much we visited twice in one day. We had gluten free coffee and walnut cake in the morning (delicious). Then we returned for a late lunch and again the food and service was brilliant. I had a halloumi, pesto and avocado salad, which was huge and very tasty. My husband had the generous soup platter with gluten free toastie and salad. We ate every scrap. Thank you to all the staff for being so smiley, friendly and helpful. The Village Shop is a must if you’re in the area!

We loved it so much here that we visited twice in one day! We are on holiday for a few days and it was recommended to us. Dan greeted us in his unique, funny and friendly style. We felt so welcome! We had gluten free coffee cake mid-morning and returned for a late lunch in the afternoon. My husband had home made leek & potato soup platter which came with a gluten free cheese toastie and salad (it was huge!) and I had halloumi, avocado and pesto salad (which was also huge!) and we ate every scrap. We also had wine and cider. The shop part is also fab. We bought gluten free biscuits and fresh veg. They sell all sorts of useful things. Thanks for brightening our holiday Dan!

I have visited The Village Shop and Upper Dicker Cafe, many times over the past 4-5 years.. locally famous, not just for it's beautiful surrounding, the grouped opera vocals when calling customers on the green, the comical greetings cards, to the sublime quality of ingredients and the art/love it takes to cook so well, so consistently! A bold but true & honest statement.. built not off of one off the cuff interaction but a series of sporadic, planned and unplanned visits with different groups of people. *****THIS IS THE BEST BREAKFAST IN SUSSEX***** when you take everything into account, this is it.. this is somewhere you will want to move to because of one shop. And that is a rare feeling!!

What an experience. The breakfast aside which was delicious The staff were so entertaining, we laughed all the way through breakfast but they paired this with excellent customer service. Eating a superbly cooked lunch amid the comings and goings of a village store is an absolute delight. Beautifully cooked food and staff who are friendly, helpful and cheerful. This is a great place and should not be missed. P.S. Try the stunning homemade cakes!

Lovely people great service food was perfectly acceptable and cracking shop altogether, but, and it's a big but In my humble opinion. Clean the windows and cills for heavens sake. I'm staring through days, if not months of cobwebs with even a dead wasp hanging. It just let the food down for me sorry?

Absolutely love the village shop, what a cracking place. Went with a friend as had heard the cakes were the best. We ordered an americano and espresso plus a couple of cakes to share. We had this great snickers cornflake cake and lemon slice and loved it so much we went back the following week. Cannot wait to go back again next month!

Lovely lunch here mid week with a friend. Eaten here many times and always great selection. Could not resist the asparagus, pea and pesto quiche which was sublime. Lovely fresh salad and coleslaw it was so good. The cakes always look and taste amazing it’s hard to choose from the full counter. I went for ginger cake - the best bit of ginger cake I’ve ever had. Yum yum yum 😋

Went for breaky this morning. Pancakes are lovely, very soft and fluffy. Big portions.. rest of my family had fullenglish and a sausage sandwich. Very tasty. Staff are great. All working hard as its very busy, people non stop coming in and out. Lovely selection of cakes. Belgium bun yummmy.. Little shop in there too which is a nice touch. Happy tummies all round

Chanced upon this gem of a stores/cafe/deli yesterday morning. Fantastic little place brimming with idiosyncratic individuality. Brilliant breakfasts, very good service, and reasonable prices. I would return at least weekly, if we didn't live an hour and a half's drive away! Tragically, there is nothing to compare within at least fifteen miles of our home. Upper Dicker residents - you are very lucky!

Finally got around to eating here! We were not disappointed, breakfasts were amazing. Good local food, excellent coffee and my tea was good too. Lovely atmosphere, but you may need to wait for a table. Well worth a visit. Good value for money

We haven't visited for a least four years and were pleased to find its still as good as our first visit. Parking for disabled is not easy. We couldn't fault the food, drinks, friendliness of the staff or our Little Dicker breakfasts which were excellent, with good quality meaty sausages, unsmoked bacon and large eggs. Maybe the bubble and squeak could have had a bit more green veg. but overall it was all delicious 😋. Just like I cook at home. There is also a good selection of fresh rolls, breads and cakes on offer. The seating is a bit rustic and really doesn't encourage you to linger. It would be a little more comfortable if there was some heating on to help keep the area by the door warm, on what was a frosty minus 2C day outside. We kept our winter coats on whilst there. Overall its a lovely village store / cafe, full of character so often missing in the era of fast food places.

I truly love this place, the staff make you feel welcome, the selection of grocery items is great and their coffee, tea and hot chocolate are all top notch.

Amazing, tasteful, friendly and interesting. After a stressful weekend in Brighton we wanted to get out and see something new. A breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the Village Shop made sure our day started perfectly. Outstanding service, friendly and quick, paying attention to small details. Extremely clean and a very welcoming atmosphere. Defenitely the best breakfast i've had in a really long time! I can only recommend!

Just had a lovely breakfast here with my husband, served by really cheery staff. Food tasted amazing and the cafe/shop had a really great atmosphere. Parking was very limited so we had to park down the main road but apart from that, was absolutely perfect. Will definitely be returning.

We really enjoyed our visit, the food was good and being ten minutes away is a bonus. We decided to go after reading all the great reviews and weren't disappointed.

As the friend I took to the Village Shop the other day remarked, 'It's a little hidden gem!' So it is. A delightful setting, friendly and helpful staff and a great, unhurried, atmosphere. All that and, most importantly, the food. Now, I'm not a lover of the burger. However, I took a chance and had the 60z burger with fries. It was excellent. Just the right size, tender and juicy and extremely well seasoned. A delight. My friend had a toasted cheese sandwich with salad and her verdict was equally positive. It's obvious that all the staff take a pride in the quality of the food and service. Highly recommended and we shall be visiting again.

We had such a lovely breakfast. We sat in the converted garage bit which was so cool and quirky!! The gentleman serving us was brilliant and amazing at his job :)). The food was delicious and the cakes inside the shop looked so good as well but we were too full! I’ll be back and bring my mum very soon! :)

Unique shop and cafe. The food is tasty and excellent service. Good for breakfast, lunch or a good coffee. Inside and outside seating is available. Shopping for your not so typical items can be found there. The wine selection for carryout is very good for such a small place. Limited parking available on-site, but street parking is also available.

Best full English I've had for a long time accompanied by a couple of nice americanos and lovely staff on attendance. I had an outside table in the sunshine and listened to the song thrushes and blackbirds singing their hearts out. What more could anyone want. I shall return.

The absolute best place to eat or grab a coffee in the local area. Lovely staff, quirky decor and loads of food and drink options. The oat flat whites are unbelievable, you can build your own breakfast and they're really accommodating for kids and families too. Fantastic service! If you are seated in the garden the staff will sing your name from the cafe door when your food is ready for collection (More places should do this 😆).
