Absolutely superb Salmon fillet. Drizzled in a sublime sauce. New Potatoes as advertised. Only let down by the complete lack of sparklers on any of the ale pumps. But that's a southern/northern divide thing!! My mistake for not having a nice glass of Rosé or Chardonnay with my salmon.😏

We had the High Tea, £20 for 2. It was delicious and well worth the money. Only issue, tea not nice, water not hot enough, so have coffee!! Lovely place with gorgeous lamps. Staff very nice too.

Just had an amazing dinner at the Village inn. The food, service and restaurant were outstanding and would recommend it. The portion sizes and quality of food are excellent.

Had a Sunday roast. For me it wasn't great. Unfortunately everything seemed to be over seasoned with black pepper which I don't like. The rest of my group loved the food though.

Our Son has a nut allergy. They were not accomodating at all. Most places we visited in the Isle of wight have been amazing and make every effort to cook a meal safely notifying all the staff that they have someone with an allergy. When we ask for allergy menu they basically come straight out with, If he has an anaphylactic shock we won't be held responsible, are you carrying epi pens and it is air born you know. Very patronising. She then continued to say the chef will probably refuse to cook for him anyway. Just feel she could of addressed this very differently and just said we cannot guarantee no nuts in our food very sorry and left it at that.

Hands down our very favorite place in Shanklin to enjoy a good meal and few drinks with our family and friends. Great ambience, super friendly staff, and delicious drinks and food. I cannot wait to return.

Went for a birthday meal. Booked for 7 people given 2 separate tables which we had to push together! Excellent menu. Very good fish choices Staff seemed busy and distracted but it didn't matter as we were celebrating a birthday

Good clean beer garden, but the food was just bang average. The poor waiter brought 2 different meals to our table before we got our order. The wine was nice but a bit pricey.

The food here is superb. They were busy, but they had so much seating available that we were able to get right in without a reservation.

Nice pub and the bar man with the dark hair and glasses was extremely friendly and welcoming. It appears you need to book a table in advance, they were all booked from 7ish. We came earlier so were able to nab one not booked until later. Lasagne and chips were lovely!

Mussels unbelievably delicious, order with plenty of bread to soak up the yummy broth. Got seated despite no reservation, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Wonderful pub with great beer. Had roasts beef and pork. Beef totally overcooked, pork lots of fat and very chewy, carrots & parsnips overcooked and floppy, roast pots overcooked. Cauliflower & broccoli & yorkshire pub ok.

Cosy pub/restaurant with pretty good food

Short staffed so very slow service even to place the order at which point the server huffed and puffed that we were not in the pub just for a drink but actually required the kitchen to be involved. Cheese scones were fine but fruit scones were burnt and fell apart when cut. Tea tasted almost, but not quite, totally unlike tea. Avoid.

We just had drink, great place to drink in Shanklin old town. If you want to eat, book a table to avoid disappointment

Friendly welcome, tasty food and a cosy atmosphere.

This is our favourite pub. I make sure to come here every time I come to England, and I am never disappointed. At different visits to the pub during this stay, I tried the fish & chips, the cheesy cauliflower broccoli soup, the lamb shank, the cheesy garlic toast, and the fried fish sandwich, all of which were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is calm, warm, rich, and inviting, and the staff are absolutely fabulous. They know when to offer assistance and when to respect one's privacy, as well as being very friendly. I wanted to try something new to drink and the bartender not only created a new drink but seemed to instinctively know what I would like. We love everything about this place, we will definitely be returning, and we urge you to experience The Village Inn for yourself!

Lovely cosy, warm, family friendly pub/restaurant. Dogs are welcome. Can't rate it high enough. Price of food looks expensive but believe me you get more than your moneys worth!

So, my husband and I decided to stop for a drink at all the eateries in the area before deciding where to eat. This was the first atmospheric place on our journey. Menu and staff were fantastic!! We had a quick drink, then went to other places on the area and ended up here again! The food was fabulous, ambiance amazing and the staff were extremely welcoming (except for the feet comments) LOL. Solely because of the experience we had tonight, we’re planning to come back again soon!

The ambiance here is cozy and inviting. The charming fireplace and wooden benches create a warm atmosphere, while the mosaic-style lights add a unique blend of rustic and art deco vibes.

Custom a bit sparce at the time of our visit (out of season) but a lovely, old, quaint Village pub with coal fires, thatched roof + lots of history to see, just looks inviting. Pleased we decided to eat here, good wholesome food at reasonable prices + good portions too !! Would certainly make a bee line when return to IoW

Had the fish burger with chips and coleslaw And the lasagne with salad and garlic bread. All I can say was it was absolutely incredible, one of the best fish burgers and lasagne I've ever had. Being someone that lives in London and tries alot, this was not only the best I've had in the UK but the best I've had internationally (even the lasagne was so much better than the ones I've had in Italy!) Even the garlic bread is stunning, fresh garlic butter with parsley and the bread is brilliant, soft and melt in your mouth on the instead and the perfect crisp crunch crust. Honestly hats off to the chef. We loved it so much that we've sat here waiting for space to open up in our tummies to go ahead and eat more! I've never given a full five stars, but everything here was amazing, from the wonderful service, so friendly and attentive, to the beautiful food and the great atmosphere. Wish we were staying in isle of Wight longer, so we could come back here! Would've loved to try their lunch options including the cream tea made fresh by their Baker in house. Hope to come back soon again!

I had one of the most delicious fish burger ever! Also, i ordered beef lasagna and it was stunning! I had my last dinner in Isle of Wight here and this place made it unforgettable. Will defo come back in summer!

Nice place to while away a chilly February afternoon

Without hesitation, the best restaurant in Shanklin... and one of the very best on the Isle of Wight. Very friendly welcome, impeccable service, very polite and available staff, friendly atmosphere, the best one you could wish for. I had dinner there several times and I recommend without any hesitation the mussels marinière (my favorite dish at the moment), but also the lamb shank, excellent, and the salmon tagliatelle. It's "homemade" and the cooking is perfect, the vegetables that accompany the dishes are varied and cooked to perfection. For Sunday I recommend the Sunday roast lunch with turkey (perfectly cooked), and for the drinks, you have the choice between some very good beers, and I recommend the Sauvignon blanc, excellent. An address to remember... and where to return without hesitation as many times as possible.

We visited the Village Inn while staying at a local hotel and had delicious meals. The menu was great and there were also specials to choose from. Unlike a previous reviewer I thought the mushroom stroganoff was really tasty and my husband enjoyed the salmon. We were too full for pudding! The pub was really pretty, with 2 open fires and lovely lighting, perfect atmosphere for a cold winter's evening. The staff were efficient and really friendly. We would definitely return next time we visit the island and heartily recommend.

A proper village pub. Well dressed, real heritage from the thatched roof, stone walls, small doors and historic character to the collectables that add character & familiar warmth to the two fireplace with a long central bar & plenty of corners & comfortable spaces to hide & relax in a variety of comfort.

Best Sunday roast on the island!!

A tad expensive , overhead a customer being told " we have no Guinness on Draught as we would have to charge £9 a pint !" As we are a free house " hmm 🤔

Absolutely disgusting Sunday roast today. Swimming in gravy. Left most of it. Definitely not worth £14.50! Coffee was cold, cup half filled and weak. Service was very bad. As a local, wouldn't recommend it.

A beautiful pub, the staff are amazing, welcoming, friendly and professional and the food exceptional. We have never been disappointed and we go very often. Every dish is superb and well presented. Can't recommend enough.

Very Nice Pub We used it for two meals during or stay in Shanklin (Evening meal and Sunday Lunch) both were excellent with big portions at very reasonable prices. On our last day we retuned for an evening drink and were recognised by the staff showing how friendly the ambiance was. Would recommend it if you want an old fashion pub with good beer and food.

A great evening with family, but there are only three vegetarian main course options, two of which are 'spicy'. As somebody who doesn't like chilli, I was left with one option only. This was OK, but not a dish I would go for normally.

Huge portion of fish and chips! Can't fault them there. It was cooked to perfection. They were able to seat us without a reservation as we were turned away by the place opposite. The vibe is very much old-skool country pub, which I really liked. Walls painted in British racing green with Tiffany style lamps. Original beamed ceilings. Parking in the nearby carpark is free after 6pm.

Had evening meal for six nights everything AOK

Mediocre food. Steak so so. Beef and ale “pie” not a pie. More like stew texture with a lid. No base of pastry so not a pie. Chips were nice. Gabrielle served us. Much more polite than the guy who had no customer skills . Good service from the young polite girl that brought our meals. Didn’t want to eat my meal with smoke wafting from the tables around us. (They sat down after we had ordered to our table) Should have designated smoking areas away from people eating!!

Just had the roast beef Sunday dinner. Would highly recommend but don't have too much to eat for breakfast as it is very filling. Sausage meat stuffing and the flash fried veg shavings a nic touch.

First pub in Shanklin we went in to that had any atmosphere. The others were either old man pubs or really just family restaurants. Great chatty service, three real ales on taps, food coming out looked good but we had already eaten. Only pub I can see is going back to in Shanklin.

Attractive village pub, with friendly staff. The vegan burger was quite nice, and absolutely huge. Some of my family had the vegetarian mushroom stroganoff, which they said was very disappointing (lack of flavour, and more peppers than mushrooms). Would be good to have some other vegan options

The food was really good and the portions were huge. They had high quality live music and the atmosphere was great. Unfortunately, we were served only after 45min. The place was busy, but they could have warned us when we were paying. Since it was getting too late we asked them to remove some garlic bread from our order (not served yet to us in 45min although we expected it as a starter) they refused to refund us and even tried to argue with us that we did not order it as a starter. A real shame that for £6.50 that the bread costs they ruined our evening and have lost 2 customers (and any that asks us for recommendation)

Had booked The Village Inn as we had previously eaten here over the years. We arrived and were seated, after perusing the menu the fillet steak had been removed and only one other on offer. Food orders placed, food arrived, steak and ale pie had thick pastry topping and was not cooked, the inside of one was watery. The quiche had very thick pastry at the bottom and again wasn't cooked. The pork loin chops were chewy and dry and not once were we asked how the food was and at the end we had left most of our dinners and walked out. The only meal that was eaten was a childs sausage, chips and beans. What a letdown and will not be returning.

Pub was full and it looked great. Unfortunately, its one of those places that when you are standing at the bar you are invisible. I was standing right in front of the barman who was taking payment from someone and then when finished he looked straight ahead and walked off. The same with 2 other staff. Eventually we found a table. The waiter was a great young man but the bar staff were a little off and unfriendly. My friends lasagne was good but my sea bass was over cooked.

We only popped in for a pint. Good atmosphere and the staff were nice. Seemed more focused on food, but we were welcome and it was a very pleasant experience.

A friendly pub with great food. Service very effective. They do return and ask if your food is good throughout the experience. Very polite staff, clean toilets. Disability friendly entrance to the side and a well presented garden to eat in. Parking within 3min walk from the pub charges apply. Good music but not to loud to interrupt talking to your friends. Kids and dogs welcome Food all looked very appealing we had the mixed share seafood platter. More than enough for two.
