Had a delicious lunch here yesterday I had the quiche and hubby had a baguette Generous portion sizes and well cooked and friendly service, we will definitely return

Really good meal here last Friday. Great portion sizes, fair price and friendly staff. Never been disappointed finding something tasty to eat here.

Me and the Family went there this morning for breakfast/lunch and ended up having the best food we had so far on the island. Great place to eat

My husband and I visited The village Inn on the bank holiday weekend (Saturday) during our day trip to the Island. There was no wait for a table and the staff were very welcoming and patience as I took a while to choose what gin i wanted as there was a very good selection.The menu had a good choice of starters, mains and desserts and the price was very reasonable as the food was freshly cooked and the portion sizes were very good (I would recommend going with an empty stomach) We were not rushed between meals and when finished are meals we happily finished our drinks before carrying on with our day. Tha atmosphere was lovely and I enjoyed the music they were playing. I will be recommending The village Inn to my family and friends, we will return on our next visit to the Isle of Wright.

Good place but why in the world can the men’s toilet door not lock? You have to sit there, uncomfortably, with your foot against the door hoping someone won’t burst in and open the door to you sitting there….

Had the mixed grill and a chilli my partners chilli was lovely , the mixed grill very dissapointing asked for it cooked medium, the lamb cutlet was the smallest I've ever seen and very dry the gammon was no thicker than thick cut bacon the chicken breast and steak were so dry I nearly choked , the only thing that seemed freshly cooked was the sausage would not eat in there again.

This is our favourite pub!! Lisa’s roast dinner is amazing, make sure you go hungry 😋 fabulous in the summer, sittings in the pretty garden, and super cosy and Christmasy in the winter! sitting by one of the fires, with all the fairy lights and Tiffany lamps, enjoying a drinkie! Highly recommend the devils crab 🦀 when its on the menu. You can now take you’re well behaved 4 legged furry friends after a lovely walk! Perfect 👌

Worth a visit for the scones and the outdoor back garden. You get 2 generous sized scones with a drink. We went back on our last day to buy some to take home. Very friendly staff and we were pleasantly entertained by all the signs within the pub.

Easily the best food, service and atmosphere on the Isle of Wight The home made food is excellent and the welcome from the landlord and staff could not be better.

Our walking group had a lovely evening meal here.

Visited in May 2025. The food was absolutely delicious—especially the brie garlic bread, which was a standout! Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. Staff seemed disengaged, and the atmosphere felt a bit unwelcoming. We also had to reuse our cutlery from the starter for our main course, which was a disappointment . That said, the quality of the food alone makes me want to give this place another try. Hopefully next time the service will match the high standard of the kitchen - might get a smile next time?

Nice food and lovely atmosphere

Food was great, service as well but food took a long time. Place is a bit old and smelly.

A nice cosy traditional British pub, a little place, always full with good selecyion of beers, food and supplied with friendly service.

Superb food. You’ll struggle to beat the homemade food here. Everything is made fresh onsite. Big portions and flavour. Great menu selection too. Small cozy pub feel with fireplace. Beer and wine we had were fresh and nicely chilled. Can’t wait to return here.

I came here with my partner last year and loved the food. The chicken in the Chicken Parmigiana was juicy and the tomato and basil sauce was delicious and plentiful. I was really looking forward to coming here again. However, after ordering the same dish here tonight, I was disappointed to find a very tough chicken breast and barely any sauce, on a bed of plain, oily pasta. The other two people who I dined with were really happy with their food, which made my disappointment even worse. Nice atmosphere and polite staff, shame about the food quality being so inconsistent.

We visited on Monday and it was such a lovely experience that we went again Wednesday. The atmosphere and staff were wonderful and the food was exceptional, we went in the evening and the chef went out of his way when we asked if we could have an afternoon tea. I couldn’t recommend this lovely pub enough

Fab place for Friday night relaxation.

We stopped in here for a refreshment after walking from Sandown Esplanade over to Shanklin via the beach. The place was very warm and welcoming to outsiders. Plenty of choices for drinks from drinks on tap to spirits etc.

A lovely pub and welcoming atmosphere aswell as very friendly staff particularly Joshua who looked after myself and my partner giving us both great customer service. We stopped off for lunch. The food was delicious. 😋

I had the mussel moulinierre, by far the best meal and value for money I have ever had. Combined with a decent pint of beer this was an amazing meal

Old time pub in Shanklin. On holiday there and only called in for a quick beer so I'm unable to comment on the food myself but given the fact that it was packed full early on a Monday evening is in itself a five star rating.

The Sunday roast was good , good value for the money. Lots of meat to choose from beef, turkey, pork.

An ok Roast dinner apart from tough roast pots,Yorkshire very flat,and a lot of Cinnamon in the swede and the apple sauce.Very pretty place but food didn't live up to surroundings.

Pub food was fine. However, they claim they're dog friendly, but they push you to one side and make you feel unwelcome if you have a dog.

Very disappointed as Kiev was burnt, it was replaced but barman was rude when we spoke about. Definitely not adhering to "the customer is always right!"

Lovely old building, food was good but for roasted potatoes seemed to be made quite awhile ago hard and inside not fluffy. My friend had a pavlova but instead of breaking up it was chewy and rubbery. A member of staff put s notice on our table for the next customer while we were eating and we had to ask for some utensils. Not recommended by me.

Old village inn, in the heart of old Shanklin. Great food, great choice and a lovely. Atmosphere. Reasonably price food. Must book in advance

Busy pub, book in advance. Food was good, including the deserts. Back garden was the only option, not very comfortable.

Try the burgers, sit upstairs the bartender is great, she is great to chat with and she makes great drinks. Wish I could have stayed longer and visited more of my birth place. KEVIN.

Absolutely superb Salmon fillet. Drizzled in a sublime sauce. New Potatoes as advertised. Only let down by the complete lack of sparklers on any of the ale pumps. But that's a southern/northern divide thing!! My mistake for not having a nice glass of Rosé or Chardonnay with my salmon.😏

We had the High Tea, £20 for 2. It was delicious and well worth the money. Only issue, tea not nice, water not hot enough, so have coffee!! Lovely place with gorgeous lamps. Staff very nice too.

Just had an amazing dinner at the Village inn. The food, service and restaurant were outstanding and would recommend it. The portion sizes and quality of food are excellent.

Had a Sunday roast. For me it wasn't great. Unfortunately everything seemed to be over seasoned with black pepper which I don't like. The rest of my group loved the food though.

Our Son has a nut allergy. They were not accomodating at all. Most places we visited in the Isle of wight have been amazing and make every effort to cook a meal safely notifying all the staff that they have someone with an allergy. When we ask for allergy menu they basically come straight out with, If he has an anaphylactic shock we won't be held responsible, are you carrying epi pens and it is air born you know. Very patronising. She then continued to say the chef will probably refuse to cook for him anyway. Just feel she could of addressed this very differently and just said we cannot guarantee no nuts in our food very sorry and left it at that.

Hands down our very favorite place in Shanklin to enjoy a good meal and few drinks with our family and friends. Great ambience, super friendly staff, and delicious drinks and food. I cannot wait to return.

Good clean beer garden, but the food was just bang average. The poor waiter brought 2 different meals to our table before we got our order. The wine was nice but a bit pricey.

Went for a birthday meal. Booked for 7 people given 2 separate tables which we had to push together! Excellent menu. Very good fish choices Staff seemed busy and distracted but it didn't matter as we were celebrating a birthday

The food here is superb. They were busy, but they had so much seating available that we were able to get right in without a reservation.

Nice pub and the bar man with the dark hair and glasses was extremely friendly and welcoming. It appears you need to book a table in advance, they were all booked from 7ish. We came earlier so were able to nab one not booked until later. Lasagne and chips were lovely!

Mussels unbelievably delicious, order with plenty of bread to soak up the yummy broth. Got seated despite no reservation, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Wonderful pub with great beer. Had roasts beef and pork. Beef totally overcooked, pork lots of fat and very chewy, carrots & parsnips overcooked and floppy, roast pots overcooked. Cauliflower & broccoli & yorkshire pub ok.

Cosy pub/restaurant with pretty good food

Short staffed so very slow service even to place the order at which point the server huffed and puffed that we were not in the pub just for a drink but actually required the kitchen to be involved. Cheese scones were fine but fruit scones were burnt and fell apart when cut. Tea tasted almost, but not quite, totally unlike tea. Avoid.

We just had drink, great place to drink in Shanklin old town. If you want to eat, book a table to avoid disappointment

This is our favourite pub. I make sure to come here every time I come to England, and I am never disappointed. At different visits to the pub during this stay, I tried the fish & chips, the cheesy cauliflower broccoli soup, the lamb shank, the cheesy garlic toast, and the fried fish sandwich, all of which were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is calm, warm, rich, and inviting, and the staff are absolutely fabulous. They know when to offer assistance and when to respect one's privacy, as well as being very friendly. I wanted to try something new to drink and the bartender not only created a new drink but seemed to instinctively know what I would like. We love everything about this place, we will definitely be returning, and we urge you to experience The Village Inn for yourself!

Lovely cosy, warm, family friendly pub/restaurant. Dogs are welcome. Can't rate it high enough. Price of food looks expensive but believe me you get more than your moneys worth!

So, my husband and I decided to stop for a drink at all the eateries in the area before deciding where to eat. This was the first atmospheric place on our journey. Menu and staff were fantastic!! We had a quick drink, then went to other places on the area and ended up here again! The food was fabulous, ambiance amazing and the staff were extremely welcoming (except for the feet comments) LOL. Solely because of the experience we had tonight, we’re planning to come back again soon!

Really nice iconic pub in Isle of wright

The ambiance here is cozy and inviting. The charming fireplace and wooden benches create a warm atmosphere, while the mosaic-style lights add a unique blend of rustic and art deco vibes.

Custom a bit sparce at the time of our visit (out of season) but a lovely, old, quaint Village pub with coal fires, thatched roof + lots of history to see, just looks inviting. Pleased we decided to eat here, good wholesome food at reasonable prices + good portions too !! Would certainly make a bee line when return to IoW

Had the fish burger with chips and coleslaw And the lasagne with salad and garlic bread. All I can say was it was absolutely incredible, one of the best fish burgers and lasagne I've ever had. Being someone that lives in London and tries alot, this was not only the best I've had in the UK but the best I've had internationally (even the lasagne was so much better than the ones I've had in Italy!) Even the garlic bread is stunning, fresh garlic butter with parsley and the bread is brilliant, soft and melt in your mouth on the instead and the perfect crisp crunch crust. Honestly hats off to the chef. We loved it so much that we've sat here waiting for space to open up in our tummies to go ahead and eat more! I've never given a full five stars, but everything here was amazing, from the wonderful service, so friendly and attentive, to the beautiful food and the great atmosphere. Wish we were staying in isle of Wight longer, so we could come back here! Would've loved to try their lunch options including the cream tea made fresh by their Baker in house. Hope to come back soon again!

I had one of the most delicious fish burger ever! Also, i ordered beef lasagna and it was stunning! I had my last dinner in Isle of Wight here and this place made it unforgettable. Will defo come back in summer!

Nice place to while away a chilly February afternoon

Without hesitation, the best restaurant in Shanklin... and one of the very best on the Isle of Wight. Very friendly welcome, impeccable service, very polite and available staff, friendly atmosphere, the best one you could wish for. I had dinner there several times and I recommend without any hesitation the mussels marinière (my favorite dish at the moment), but also the lamb shank, excellent, and the salmon tagliatelle. It's "homemade" and the cooking is perfect, the vegetables that accompany the dishes are varied and cooked to perfection. For Sunday I recommend the Sunday roast lunch with turkey (perfectly cooked), and for the drinks, you have the choice between some very good beers, and I recommend the Sauvignon blanc, excellent. An address to remember... and where to return without hesitation as many times as possible.
