Confusion between staff, who is serving who? Heated confrontation between staff. Use to be our regular before managment changes - NOT ANYMORE! Our order had been taken by a regular young lady - Sweet & Sour Chicken. when we got it home the sauce was cold (like a congealed texture) onions & peppers raw, - the chicken had been cooked by a member of staff in the fryer at the front of the shop & given to the same person who served us. Who then went through to the back area turning left, reappearing seconds later, with it - the sauce & veg had just been spooned over the chicken. Not realising at the time it was cold!! NO - soy sauce requested over rice TWICE, again upon opening at home Soy Sauce over rice!! Don't waste you money!!!

Been going to the village fryer for years, have to say since Alex left the food has got worse. Last night was the final straw. Most of what we ordered went in the bin. Won't be going back again. Need to find another decent chippy. Any recommendations are welcome thanks.

We’ve been to The Village Fryer numerous times as they provide a gluten free menu. The most recent occasion the dishes were kept on the counter top for 15 minutes (and not in the heated cabinet) while they waited for the chips - and by the time we got home and opened it the dish had congealed. Having paid £32 for inedible food, I won’t be going back!

I’ve just bought two fish and chips costing £17.20 and the chip was either over cooked or been left there all day. The batter was dark and hard and the fish inside was really dry. Potion size and chips fine but the fish was awful.

Turned up today after 12 shift on nhs hospital ward ordered my food and when it came to pay lovley lady said I don't need to pay as I work for NHS - was stunned/surprised what a kind gesture - can't thank you enough it really made my day . Me and my family went to Village Fryers for years, and food was alway beautiful . Thank you to all the Village Fryers staff xxx

Most disgusting food ever! Loyal customer of over 20 years but since Alex left its disgusting food, staff have a vile attitude and can’t even deliver correct orders or even properly cooked food ! Avoid at all costs !

Absolutely appalling. We have been using this chippy for over 20 years but never again. Waited 54 minutes for order to arrive to discover they had not sent the kebab we ordered and given us chips that were more like undercooked slop. We rang to tell them order was wrong and were told “the chips are cooked” and the lady hung up. We went into the shop to show them the delivered slop where we were greeted with a vile, hostile attitude from a dark haired lady who said she wasn’t the manager and spoke appallingly to us. Received full refund. Im disgusted at the poor service, poor attitude and below poor food. Avoid at all costs. Oh and they wanted us to accept the kebab that had been sitting on the counter instead of being sent a fresh order !! Unbelievable

Been using this chippy for a while, due to the gluten free options. Placed and order tonight that was accepted for delivery, waited an hour as expected but nothing arrived, tried ringing but there shut now. Never cancelled the order and never delivered. Will not use again.

We are good customers of the village fryer. Even tho we have experienced hair in our food a couple of times. I have pictures if anyone questions this. But tonight we rang at 8.15 and told they stop taking orders for delivery at 8.15 when it was 8.15. They don’t get customer loyalty at all. It’s frustrating but they do cater for coeliac’s and that’s the only reason we go there. My wife will still have to use them but for me it’s a no from now on and I’ll try somewhere else.

Ordered chicken fried rice, it was packed well with lot of paper that helped to keep food warm. Quantity is good lot of chicken and tastey, only suggestion is to keep the salt in the food bit lower.

Busy takeaway which seems to combine the fare of many styles of takeaway: Pizza; Kebab; Chinese; Trad fish & Chips. Unusually for the Wirral they sell what look and taste like Pukka Pies, bigger and better than usual chip shop pies around here, and the chips are top notch - again unlike the habitual morass of mediocre to awful chips on the Wirral. A go-to place.

Don't know what's happened to this place. Gone down hill and won't be going back. Just got a chicken kebab and it was disgusting. Couldn't even eat it. Chicken still had skin on and looked like it had just been striped off a bone. Definitely not the breast 😒

I've let myself have a bit of time before posting a bad review to understand wether I was angry due to hunger or service I'm angry due to service. I arrive at 1:30 I ask for a pizza Old woman gets frustrated and tells me I should have come earlier I already accept this is not how I'm going to be spoken to and apologise for the inconvenience and leave Everywhere else is either shut or can't take card I swallow my pride and go back I ask for a fish and chips as I imagine it takes less time She huffs and puffs I spot a deal that says £9 for fish and chips and can I then ask for a can She agrees After about 5 minutes she asks me to pay £9.20 I gesture to the meal deal She gets very frustrated at me for not ordering at the same time You can bet she huffed and puffed through he remainder of the order Then she finally provided my food, minus drink I ask for my drink She huffs to grab it and I leave Nothing actually offensive happened, this isn't me reporting some crime. I just feel that the customer service wasn't acceptable, I felt like I was unwelcome from the start

Food portions have now got smaller since the refurbishment. The way the owner speaks to his staff it's a wonder he has any! I've just had to edit my review, after 35 years going to this chippy it's my last. The last few orders have been poor, my wife has different meals I just have simple fish n chips sausage dinner ect. Tonight my wife had chips curry n rice. I just had chips. The chips were either dry hard or bad. My wife put her's in the bin. I made one butty out of a portion and did the same. The blonde mother and daughter who've worked there years nowhere to be seen, they're either using poor quality oil and or inferior potatoes as nothing tastes the same and I'm hoping my stomach is OK later tonight. Village fryer you've had the last of my money and custom. Looking at recent reviews I'm not the only one it seems.

Came in tonight for tea after finishing work , had a Samsung pay sticker on the door window , after I ordered they told me it was cash only , so I questioned about the sticker on the door “ apparently someone had stuck it on there “ then proceeded to tell me it was cash only , but nothing advertised in the building or out side , also the food wasn’t great asked for a chicken pie and chip wanted to upgrade for wedges , charged me £3 extra when the chips and pie was £3 I got my pie home and was steak not chicken and my partners kabab wasn’t Edible due to drowning it in sauce , the pitta was soaking literally fell to pieces and the meat was drowned in sauce unable to eat !!! DEFINITELY WONT BE COMING AGAIN !!! UNBELIEVABLE

my family have been using this chippy since the mid 80’s, and I myself have used it since I was born, but since the owners have changed it has completely gone down the drain. Rude man on the phone, forgetting items then charging delivery for the missed item, food is practically inedible, it’s really sad that we’ve finally decided to stop going there after the horrible experience we had yesterday. You may have heard good things about this chippy, and it used to be the only place I enjoyed, but i would highly recommend giving it a miss now, not good at all any more!

Absolutely horrendous service from little Asian lady, started shouting at me as soon as I walked in, took part of my order then proceed to talk to her coworkers without taking rest of order, said I had only asked for one sausage when I asked for two, and then proceeded to mumble at me like I was wrong. Needles to say, I walked out.

Absolutely awful! We had three fish and chips portion size was great however we were all very poorly 🤢💩 we called them the following day to make them aware of this however they were nothing but rude!! We will not be eating here again!

OMG has this place gone downhill...fish and chips...only the Chinese can mess up, and they have and I'm Chinese. Please have a Greek person prepare and fry the fish and chips. Keep the Chinese do Chinese food but the Greeks know and appreciate fish.

Disgusting food, ordered 12inch special pizza, came as cheese and tomato. Kebab meat looked like it had been on the floor, waste of money.

We ordered fish and chips and my husband had the chow mein. The fish was really small considering the cost and the chow mein was possibly the worst chow mein I've tasted! They also missed a drink from the delivery. I rang up to say this had happened and they said they couldn't deliver it as they were too busy and agreed to a refund. It's now over a month later, still hadn't received my refund (despite calling twice!!) so decided to see if I could get the refund in person. The first woman I spoke to was incredibly rude, snapping at me but a lady called Emily was much more friendly, helpful and gave me my refund for the drink owed to me.

Ordered a takeaway delivery that was promised in 45 minutes ,2 hours later the food was delivered ,cold greasy fried rice ,tasteless chicken curry and the pizza was overcooked and burnt on the edges ,the chips were also cold

As I've seen another reviewer state they don't stick to advertised hours. I went in with my son at 13:20, it's advertised that they're open until 13:45 so plenty of time left to order 1 x fish and chips and 1 sausage on its own. I did ask if there was time to order beef mushroom but the older woman in there was SO rude as I was trying to make the order saying "what do you want, we're closing now". Her tone was disgusting and it was terrible way in which to treat a customer who was about to spend money. I told them to forget it and I walked out with my very disappointed 9 year old!!! I wouldn't mind but she was putting what looked like fish into the fryer at the time!! I would think that, looking at the terrible reviews I've since read here, they can't really afford to be chasing away new custom but her rudeness will mean we'll NEVER return .....no great loss it would seem, bullet doged more like!!!

I don't know what has happened to this chip shop but we've tried to give it the benefit of the doubt on numerous occasions and have now started looking elsewhere. The last time was the icing on the cake, sadly... Standing listening I could hear they were getting people's orders wrong and a lady actually came back because the meal was wrong. Instead of making a new one they took off a few items and replaced them meaning the rest of the meal was cold. Our chips have been soggy and anaemic every time we've been recently. When I got home we tucked into our chicken kebabs with salad (actually only iceberg lettuce) and while my hubby and I were eating the chicken I broke a tooth on what must have been bone or gristle and a minute later my husbands filling came out with a crunch. He had to get an emergency appointment with the dentist the next day. I haven't been back to the place since so now I'm on the hunt for a new chippy. It's so sad because the new owners are such lovely people and friendly but they look out of their depth. One good point is that the burgers are made by our local butchers Heseltines, so I can be sure that they will be amazing quality! I don't like to give poor reviews but I have to be honest as I would want that.. Sorry

Disgusting. Used to be nice. Not anymore? Ordered Chinese meal Soup was like glue absolutely disgusting as photos show. Put prices up and not wages. I work hard and pay good money for food when the food is un fit for consumption. NEVER GO HERE

Tasteless. Kebab meat pale and tasteless. Hardly any salad and pitta not even cooked properly. Fish now tastes oily and cheap.

this is this is disgusting. The chips were hard and in my gravy and chips she had put onions which I specifically asked for no onions on the woman ( small one) was shouting at me for no reason. I found this very rude and absurd because I just wanted to provide food for my hungry family which they could not eat because one of them is allergic to onions, do you not come here? I do not advise the chips work covered in oil which is really unhealthy. Also in the chips with onions all over I also found a hair a long black thick hair we we did not know this until after it had been eaten and to find a black hair in someone’s mouth is not great. She nearly choked let alone the onions. She was allergic to fish meal went straight in the bin.

I phoned a meal order advise 15mins for collection arrived 20mins later for you to start cooking / preparing my meal !!! you offer a telephone collection service . What’s the point to this as I might as well walked in of the street and ordered a meal & Waite !!!!

Ordered food online phoned 5 minutes later to add more food on said that’s fine they’ve added it on. Phoned 90 minutes later to see where it was and they said they missed the order👍

We have ordered here a number of times and it has always been lovely. The last order was very disappointing. Tasteless chicken chow mein full of mushrooms when I had requested none, chips that looked barely cooked and full of grease and gravy with no flavour. The lot went in the bin! Expensive and horrible

Chips were like boiled potatoes, chicken chow mein was requested with no mushrooms and had mushrooms which ruined the meal for my partner, Ordered a pepperoni pizza that was brutal, dough was stale, and the pizza sauce was tomato puree with a mound of badly melted cheese that was covering the pepperoni it tasted pretty terrible and looked awful. Spent 33 quid and barely ate the food. Normally alright here to be fair but was really bad tonight

In my opinion this is possibly the best chip shop on the wirral. Order your food as you go in and it is cooked/warmed while you wait. There is Chinese food, kebabs, burgers and a pizzeria as well so most tastes are catered for. As testament to the food it is always busy. Good value for money as well.

This place has gone right down hill over the last few months, the salt and pepper chicken was dreadful and tasted stale with no spice or flavour. Very disappointing! Very overpriced for the absolute garbage that’s being served. Won’t be returning!

Ordered salt and pepper chips and there’s was literally 2 shreds of pepper and that’s it, basically just chips. To top it all off I found a HUGE piece of plastic in it! BEST TO STEAR CLEAR!

Gluten Free. Had a family meal delivered last night, my wife is Coeliac and spent the night with an adverse reaction, we were told the fish and chips we ordered were gluten free, but obviously not. Last month, I called in here to treat my family to a chippy tea, i wasn’t very hungry, so just asked for egg fried rice. When I got it home, all of the rice was black, they must have poured in a whole bottle of soy sauce! The weird thing is, you cook with soy sauce, not add it afterwards, maybe they have never cooked egg fried rice before? Never again for us, do not use if Coeliac!

Very nice food, chips are amazing!! The girl on the phone too was very lovely to me and my children. Beccy was very patient when my kids couldn’t decide what to have for dinner. Overall, amazing food and would recommend to anyone. Thank you.

Haven't been for a few years,what has happened to it, Only ordered fried rice and sweet and sour sauce, Fried rice tiny portion not very well cooked clumps of boiled rice stuck together and its the first time I've ever had sweet and sour sauce without anything in it no pineapple onion or peppers just a small carton of red tastless gloop what a mess will be my last visit

I wouldn't have any food from this place, if they paid me to eat it. The little woman who seems to run the business is loud and rude and there are plenty of other friendly take aways locally.......👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼

Awful food, the noodles was all broken up like they was refried, the curry was just spicy gloop, vegetable sweet an sour had 3 vegetables in and was like eating vinegar. We starved that night

We have always enjoyed the food we have ordered. When family from out of the area come to visit, they always want us to order food. I would highly recommend!

Ordered at 6.30pm, called them at 7.50pm to check how long the order would be to be told they hadn’t received it. The money had been taken out the bank, I’d received an order number, delivery time etc, but the shop hadn’t received the order. The young lad then came back on the phone to tell me my order had just come through and it would be 20minutes! Nearly two hours after I ordered it. In all fairness the order was with me by 8.05pm but it was disgusting. Curry was like water, beef was chewy and the onions were just huge chunks of raw onion. I won’t be ordering again! Waste of time and money, worst part of it, not so much as an apology off any the staff! 😡

Poor service, if you go in just for something simple like a portion of chips you still have to wait until all people in front of you are served even if they are all getting things that take time such as Chinese meals. Same for phone orders, may as well just join the queue

We are regular customers of Villafe Fryer, so good to find a chippy with an extensive gluten free menu, such a treat and the food is always great, and they deliver, doesn't get better than that!!!

Staff ignore you and when they do speak they are so rude. Shame, haven’t been there for a long time due to ignorant staff, they just shout at each other and ignore customers

Very friendly and helpful staff, who dish up the most amazingly wonderful tasty food, from which ever section of their menu you eat, from yummy fish and chips to delicious Chinese to scrummy burgers!!! We'd definitely recommend them!!!! 😃👍

Arrived at 8.26pm for supper. The door was locked even though advertised hours were to 830pm. I won’t be going back.

Gave this place a one star review a while back because the chips were consistently awful. Now changed to a four star because the chips have improved (could still be better but getting there) and I must say the salt and pepper chicken is Gorgeous! Delivery is usually quick as well. Well done guys. If you can start doing a proper onion gravy I'll add more stars 😉

Ordered a meal so was asked if would like chips or rice, asked for chips. The chips were in the meal and not like any other chippy were you get a bag of chips, rang them and was told nothing we can do now, So the person who had the other meal could not have any chips because they dont like curry. Its a shame i had to write this as the food i ate was nice, pity the staff were NOT.

Sub par fish & chips... Chips were undercooked and hard, GF fish fell apart under the stiff batter. Would not go back. Well worth driving the extra 10 minutes to Parkgate!!

Not had fish and chips here for a good while , was really looking forward to a nice fish and chips Friday dinner, it used to be amazing. Not anymore, just had the worst fish and chips I’ve had in years from the Upton Fryer. My wife drove the shorts distance , less than a mile home , I opened up my chips to find a pile of white fried mashed potato , it looked horrendous just a massive lump of spuds, quite tasteless , definitely not chips, the Haddock looked lovely but was absolutely tasteless. So disappointed , hate it when local business goes down hill. Won’t be going back anytime soon🤷‍♂️

If you want a house full of hungry and angry people this is the place to order from. Ordered 3 hours in advance and we are still left waiting. Just had an update to say its been delivered but still no food....who knows if its ever ginna come

I ordered a gluten free chicken meal as I am coeliac and had a bad reaction. I have ordered gluten free from here once before and didn’t have a problem, but this time didn’t react well, assuming the meal contained gluten or was cross contaminated

Always in to grab something on my lunch break, faultless every time. Great portion sizes and good prices.

The main meal was decent but the burger was terrible and the cheesy garlic bread was like cardboard with cheese on. For the price it needs to step up.
