I believe the place is called Madeleine`s (they gave me a card with this name). I had a brioche and a coffee; they were both below average. You would aspect from those interdependent shops to have higher quality of food but unfortunately not. The food and beverages are better in chains like Pret-a-Manger or Starbucks

An OK place with a nice display. However staff were efficient but not friendly. Coffee was great but very small for an Americano.

The food is ok and there is somewhere to sit outside in the summer and its next to the station and in a lovely town...but it does not sell itself in anyway and I have passed it for years unaware of its existence. Amazing. The food is nice and yet the staff are indifferent at times...and so why is this ....Its a shame. I would not really go back as there are better places in Blackheath and the staff want you to be there and want to sell you things and want to know how you are.....someone needs to instruct the staff in customer service.

Tripadvisor generally rates this chain so I went here for a coffee and pastry between meetings recently. I ordered double espresso but was served a single. It had long been consumed by the time the pastry was served. I wondered if there was a problem because the "background" music was so loud I could hardly think, let alone communicate verbally. I did not linger but had to wait for 7 minutes and 32 seconds to pay the bill. No idea why, as I stood at the pay point and was ignored while staff prattled happily among themselves. By this time I was in a hurry so I grabbed my bill and change and shoved it in my pocket while I dashed for a train. On checking later I found I had been billed for the double espresso (and I drink it often enough to know he difference between a double and a single). Then I found a 12.5% surcharge had been added for service that had not been offered in my view. To add insult my change was 50p short as well. I have no idea why my order and change were incorrect. One error is just that; two begins to look like a system. Were they unofficial surcharges added on to the official one? If that happens to just 1 in 10 customers it adds up to a tidy sum over the day. I guess I will ever know but I am voting with my feet and will not return.

This little deli right by Blackheath station is a hidden gem. Full of homemade pastries, pies, salads, olives, cakes and sandwiches. Excellent quality, best I've eaten in a long time, and they're open till late. They never rush you, and the service is efficient and homely. You can sit outside too. If it's not on the board, ask for it and they will make it for you if they can. Great prices, especially considering it's right in the heart of Blackheath village. Nice and peaceful atmosphere, great for when you're waiting for a train or just got off one and want a coffee, or maybe even your dinner! Well worth a visit.

Waited too long - then the food was undercooked and then we were overcharged. Would not recommend really unpleasant experience

Feels like a local deli in Italy as soon as you walk in! Very unpretentious but tidy cute cafe and deli with italian goods store attached. Great coffee and Italian tidbits - I find myself in here a lot grabbing pastas, cheese other delicious things without even intending to go in! Authentically Italian staff too :)

Have had breakfast here and it is good but service can be slow as especially at the weekend, they are busy. The other downside is space. There isn't much so it's not really a,sit and dawdle. But the service is efficient and the cook knows her stuff. They have a fresh orange juice machine and do a very good selection of food They also have proper coffee and a take away counter.

I've been here a number of times. They have a great selection of sandwiches and panini, and lovely hot dishes (moussaka, mezze selections...). Service is always pretty slow but as long as you're not in a rush it's ok. The inside is pretty poky but there are some nice outside tables if the weather is ok.

Although busy and short staff we had friendly helpful service with a smile. Quite a long wait for food but loads of apologies for this! When our food arrived it was excellent as was my fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. A bit cramped with a good selection of food to please everyone

Ordered a snack to go today for gbp2. While the snack was being prepared I sat down in the empty place. Because I sat down for 1 min, I was charged an additional 50p for "service charges". This lead to a discussion, but the person in the shop wouldn't change her mind about the charge. Ridiculous uncommercial behaviour, DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!

Obviously the 1 star reviewers have other problems in their miserable lives. Top tip: if you act like a pretentious t#@! then expect to be treated like one, If you need your ego massaged then go elsewhere... But if you want a great selection of quality and genuinely tasty homemade food served up in generous proportions at a fair price you can enjoy that here. Sandwiches are made to order, bacon is grilled to order etc.. so it's never going to be fast food, but you can have it your way and it's totally worth the wait + ultimately it's more satisfying than the expensive nobby establishments up the hill. The family staff are brilliant - real characters. The £2.95 tea/coffee & bacon/sausage roll breakfast deal is a genuine winner.

This little deli has been in Blackheath for ages, and continues to serve great food, with an amazing variety of choices, which they turn out from a tiny kitchen in the back. The staff are friendly and there's a great honest feel to the place. Do go there!

Love this place and have been going for years. The most extensive breakfast menu I've seen with everything from simply fruit and yoghurt to the more inventive cowboy and Mediterranean breakfasts - and everything in between. Everything is cooked to order and very tasty it is too. Grab a spot outside in the summer.

Went in for a coffee and end up having a sandwich which was huge in portion and very nice. Definitely get your moneys worth. The staff are very accommodating. The older one on a saturday made sure everything was okay and was very polite and another younger lady who looked like she made the coffees was a smiley character and showed interested in a book that I was reading - this is the type of cafe you feel welcome in. Only downside is loud talking from kitchen but the food made up for that.

First off, I just want to say, I absolutely love this place. The food is great, all home made and there is a wide range of choices each day including pies, pasta dishes, cakes and vegetarian options. This works out perfectly for me when I walk home from Blackheath station after work. (I highly recommend the Steak and Ale Pie with Roasted Vegetables). They also sell lots of homely products like jams, sauces and biscuits meaning you really are spoiled for choice. In terms of the staff, they are all very friendly. Inparticularly Hannah who works there most days of the week. One of my favourite things about the place is it is always decorated or themed to suit a particular occasion. Whether it's Christmas, Halloween or even Wimbledon, expect the walls and ceilings to be rich with decoration.Speaking of Christmas, I recently purchased one of these homemade Gingerbread Christmas Trees (picture attached). It looks so nice I almost don't want to eat it.Anyway, if you are ever passing I highly advise you to check it out.Like myself, I'm sure you'll end up becoming one of their regulars.Lewis.

I really have got to say that the previous comment I completely disagree with I got the most amazing slice of ham quiche from this little deli and the a lovely helping of pasta pesto salad . And it's people like that what make these little businesses go under.

Bought some salads and quiche to take away. The quiches was so salty I couldn't finish it and the Greek salad had what tasted like grit through it. Best part of £20 for lunch for 2 . I really like to support small local businesses but when they produce food like this is it any wonder so many go under.

So I chose this cafe for a drink prior to meeting someone at the station. .my phone was out of battery and I asked politely after buying my drink if I could use a plug point for a few minutes to contact friend. Let me start by countering the negativity. This tiny Village Deli is extremely buys, all the time. So of course you may have to wait for your food a little, but if you want FAST food then go to Greggs. The staff are friendly and accommodating to any changes of your order you request.i eat here every day as I work in the Village, and the food is fantastic. No better place to eat in the Village.

Expensive, mediocre food served by consistently rude staff in an uncomfortable setting. Not sure why I've bothered coming back to this place as always walk away feeling dissatisfied and robbed!! If you're after a breakfast/ brunch, you're better off heading over to the many restaurants up the road where you can receive quality food with a smile! A shame this appears to be the only place on blackheath that serves breakfast/ brunch later in the day! Very surprising this place has kept going for so long!

Amazing food and handsome quantities. And it's a good job. If the food was not so good then we would never go back. Nothing is served with a smile, and the food takes an eternity to arrive. They've usually run out of some ingredients too..so there's a lot of free styling (which we don't mind) that goes on, making for an interesting meal!

Work in the village so this seemed to be a lovely place to grab lunch. How wrong I was. The food is very over priced, I would not pay half the price of what they charge for the food that is served. Complete shock when you see and speak to the staff, when they acknowledge you that is!! So rude and inconsiderate, chat and ignore you. No apologies for food that takes 20 minutes for a takeaway, maybe if they gossiped less you would get your food on time!! Always seem to have a friend in there who gets served first and coincidently gets there food super fast. Wasted too much money on disrespectful staff who need to be reminded to wash their aprons! Place stinks of grease! Your better off going over the road to greggs!!!

Been here a few times now, the take away service is shockingly slow. Staff are friendly but very disorganised and inefficient. Basic orders (a single sandwich to go) take 15-20 mins on average. What was particularly annoying is that this seems to just be the expected level of service, with no apologies for the delay.

I have had breakfast here regularly every week for a few months. Food is lovely and service always friendly. The lovely lady behind the counter remembers me and what I like...which is really nice. I eat alone so it is a nice touch to be remembered and have a conversation. I don't recognise the unfriendly staff in other reviews. I do notice it has a lot of regulars who go back time and time again. The food isn't cheap but it is generously portioned, very good value and cooked to order. Recommended.

My husband and our friends had brunch in this little deli and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't have the experience of the other reviewers with regard to the staff. All the staff were lovely and they were really helpful. We ordered our brunch and it was served in a reasonable time. Although the deli is showing its age, it is also its charm. My friends had never been there before and they said what a fabulous choice there was and how nice the food was. The portions are not small, in fact they are quite generous. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Blackheath.

We ordered food and drinks. Drinks came after 10 mins (cold bottled drinks) the waitress who served us had the 'service without a smile' policy. We sat and waited for half an hour for sandwiches. I then went in to enquire where they were and the waitress disappeared for 5 mins into the kitchen as they obviously hadn't prepared them and had the nerve to say 2 more mins, they didn't even apologise we walked out and they even charged us for the drinks!

They serve good deli food here , it's not cheap but of good quality. Breakfast variety is really good and despite the lack of room it's always enjoyable. The only downside are the staff who are miserable and rude. My girlfriend of 8 months pregnant was made to feel like a criminal when she walked in with a milkshake from Starbucks, even though we ordered coffees, orange juice, breakfasts. I did apologise and said she has a craving but they weren't interested and berated her no end.Its not sour grapes, the staff are really quite obnoxious and provide a good example of what's wrong with London.

Food and service were fine, but I had an issue with the bill. I was charged extra, only £1.50, nevertheless extra. I could only put it down to one of the group wanting their egg scrambled, not fried.
