Chef's Treat in Lewisham

Food and service were fine, but I had an issue with the bill. I was charged extra, only £1.50, nevertheless extra. I could only put it down to one of the group wanting their egg scrambled, not fried.

Food like warm precooked the food looks old you can taste the cheap or old oil on food. I read a review saying what do expect at £5.00 to £7.00 that's not a excuse for bad food. I went there to today I don't this is after 2 months old rank bacon old oil. I will not be coming back.

Review for Chef’s Treat, Lewisham I recently visited Chef’s Treat on 1st October 2024 around 12:45 PM, and unfortunately, I had a terrible experience. After eating a meal that included clearly old mushrooms, I became violently ill with severe food poisoning. The symptoms, including extreme vomiting, started soon after my meal and have left me unable to eat since. In an attempt to resolve the situation, I called the cafe multiple times to speak with the manager. However, the manager was rude, unprofessional, and even hung up the phone during one of my calls. I made six attempts to reach them, but they showed no interest in addressing the matter or offering any sort of help. Based on this experience, I am extremely concerned about the hygiene and food safety standards at this establishment. I strongly advise anyone considering dining here to think twice

I love chefs treat and always have. It’s a classic greasy spoon. Fast friendly service, big portions, classic cafe menu with lots of options. Chefs treat remains cheaper than many other local greasy spoons, however trades cost with quality. So do expect a slightly lower quality of the breakfast items. Despite that, I love it there and am always happy when I go. Used to like getting a peach Melba with my mum and coffees and breakfast. Recommended as a cafe for sure. One of the last places in London you can get breakfast for just over £5.

Cafe with really obnoxious customers who sit outside all day (from 9am) playing loud and irritating music.

Came here today for breakfast… I have to say read the reviews! I didn’t and I was a bit disappointed with this place, I’ve been here years ago but I believe this place has gone past its expiry date. The food was really basic and not cooked properly, bread was stale and not fresh. The tea was about the only good thing here. The cost of this was a joke too! Better to use other cafes in the area which provide a good service and also quality food. The waitress who served us was nice but found it weird she already billed us a left the receipt to pay before we even got served our food. I wouldn’t recommend coming here unless things change drastically!

Been coming here for a while now, normally on a Sunday. My last three visits have bee a little less than acceptable. I tend to order the breakfast/brunch and ask them to cook some of the items well done. The black pudding is never cooked enough and cut too thick, as with the egg is way too under cooked. I have continually asked them to cook the black pudding fully but it's either ignored by the cook, or the waitress didn't bother to ask. Yesterday was the 3rd sunday on the trot it came to me uncooked. This was enough for me. I didn't even have one mouthful or even a sip of coffee, I just got up and left. No discussion, no complaining, no explanation, just up and out the door without saying a word. I refuse to pay for uncooked food If they cannot even get a simple thing like this right, then I cannot give them my business.

Food is excellent, service is amazing, very friendly cafe

This is a small local cafe in South Harrow. The service is friendly and the food is generally OK. Good cooked breakfasts and lots of variation on the menu. The cafe is almost bang up against a local school so breakfast, lunch on school days are busy with kids coming in fir take-aways. Choose a time outside of these and you should be able to sit down to a civilised quiet meal on your own or with others.

Food was bad and undercooked, the food plate was literally thrown in my face. The service was awful. I would give 0 stars if possible. Won't return ever.

This is basically one of the last of the traditional British cafes. For the price you pay the food is pretty good, the service fine, I've been twice recently for brunch and it is always very busy.

I waited fifteen minutes without having my order taken then left. Avoid at lunch, they seem easily overwhelmed.

I've been using this cafe for quite a few years, the service and the food had always been a delight; however, over the past 18 months the service has slowly deteriorated to waiting for 15 mins before being served after being by-passed even after asking twice if I could be served - 2 other were served before me. The waiting staff are killing this once 5 star cafe. There use to be just 2 people serving and they were on point, (haven't seen one since it was obvious she was pregnant). Today I heard 3 other people complaining about the lack of service. There are so many people working at the kitchen end, sitting on their backsides when they could be helping. It wasn't busy when I was there so there is no excuse. Management, get your act together, train your staff or, get new staff.

Definitely worth going to have a meal

Terrible cafe , very dirty and unhygienic they wipe the table with a dirty cloth then put it plates. The toilets are always dirty you can smell them a mile away. The staff are rude and smoke fags and then go in and don’t wash hands and handle food. Disgusting. The food is rank as well. Got food poisoning from the dirty kitchen and food prep area. All illegal immigrants working there as well.

The worst place ever I had bones in my chicken sandwich avoid this place. Food was terrible very dirty and horrible service wish I had taken a picture so you could see how bad this sandwich was

Some of the reviews below do make me laugh, commenting on the quality when they're paying £5-7 for a main dish - it's Cafe, not Gordon bleeding Ramsey! What it is, is is a top notch greasy spoon and some. Great selection of dishes, all the classics - burger and chips, lamp chops chips and peas, various roasts and the like - it is what it is. It has a loyal following, young and old all eat there and all are welcome - definitely worth a visit, just leave your airs and graces at the door.

I have been going there for many years and my experience with the meals, service and cleanliness is an excellent one. Also, despite the increase energy and food costs, their prices have not gone up by much. Well Done Chef’s Treat!

Eaten there several times, consistently good, welcoming staff. And if you order bread with your food you get proper thick slices, not that silly waffer thin nonsense. Well worth a 4 star. Update just been back, rerate toa three and half. Waitresses are fine, but woman behind till, rude and disrespectful in particular to old nearly deaf fella. She needs to go, with the leftovers🗑️

I ASKED FOR LIGHTLY COOKED LIVER AND BACON.....AND IT NEARLY WAS!! TABLES ARE NOT CLEANED AFTER THEY'VE BEEN USED. WAITRESS SERVICES ARE LITERALLY NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. KITCHEN IS TIRED AND UNKEPT,WITH CHOPPED FOOD DONE BY THE WASHING UP. HYGIENE IS NOT A #PRIORITY....NEITHER IS THE SERVICE.

Ordered a large order via Uber eats, got delivered a mouldy cheese salad. Quite clearly mouldy too, so would’ve been seen when preparing!

Asked for the sausage to be cooked well done, it wasn't, this was ready in under 2 minutes from ordering, disappointing that whoever's duite it is to prepare these rolls are careless with the sauce and make it messy and soggy to eat, don't get excited by the hp and Heinz branded sauces on the tables, thats not what will be used in the sandwich/roll they have the cheap and nasty sauces for that, would much rather they put up there price and make more of an effort to not only constructing food but following preferences to thoses orders accordingly, cheap but not cheerful

Went here with family for lunch today and the staff were abserloutely amazing! They were so lovely and welcoming! I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans and a salad. I thought the jacket potato was massive at first but it was a good portion. (Well for me anyway as I do like my food) The food here was reasonable. (Just under £20 for 4 meals - 3 adult meals and a child meal) the omelets (ham on its own and ham and cheese) there were nice as well as the jacket potato. The chicken nuggets were also good. The chips were piping hot (personally hot is better than cold). I would love to go back and definitely recommend this place! ♥️

I went to the cafe and had to come back because they was no seats available. Then when I ordered my food the waitress did listen to me and didn't put salad in my roll. And when she bought the roll to me she nearly dropped it on my lap. And the in the toilets the paper is all soggy and unusable

This is not so much a takeaway as a sit down and have a cheap nutritious meal for the remarkable number of people in Lewisham who are poorly off, ill or with a disability. Not everyone who goes is ill but I'd say the extremely sympathetic and patient proprietor is so helpful and talks to everyone it is a quite charming experience that everyone feels looked after.

Enjoyed a nice traditional English breakfast with delicious cappuccino and friendly service. Recommend.

Been coming here for 25 years! The family that own it are very friendly! The food is Great and Great value for money there is no cheaper than this! Great choice in menu of food and desserts! The brown derby is amazing!!!

Been going to the chefs treat on and off for years , used to be my dear departed mothers favourite eating place , however had dinner in there yesterday , very dissapointed , the food was very greasy , the unhygienic behaviour from the many chefs and helpers behind the counter , with the head scratching and didnt notice much handwashing when handling food consequently has left me suffering with a stomach upset , which im feeling to report wasnt feeling ill until the evening and it was the only meal id eaten all day ..wont be eating in there again

I used to like this place but not so much now. The chef used to make poached eggs the proper way but now he appears to use some gadget and they arrive looking like plastic. The cutlery knives are blunt so you end up hacking at your food and competent service is patchy. It is locaywd right next to two schools so try to avoid at certain times.

Was okay, been coming here for several years now and the food and customer service is excellent however I've always been able to edit my menu without a fuss, now I've been told I can't change my order or replace an item that I don't eat, and if I did their would be an excess charge. Not a happy loyal customer

Traditional family-run caff/diner, with extensive traditional menu of filling staples like shepherd's pie and roast chicken. It is absolutely rammed at lunchtime, and even does table bookings. The real bargain is a massive crispy grilled salmon steak with boiled veg for about £5, that sets you up for the rest of the day. Friendly waiter service, cheap prices, and nostalgic desserts like banana split complete the bliss. Clientele are the people that make Lewisham great: solid elderly folk, big fierce mums and workmen.

I have on occasions been here for breakfast which has been good, Big portions and all very tasty. I only come to Lewisham for the fruit and veg market , today had my car serviced and stop for lunch, ordered steak pie with 4 veg. IT arrived swimming in water ,peas ,carrots boiled potatoes, overcooked and cabbage which I think they started cooking the day before. it would have been better to have only one vegetable cooked well then 4 badly. Will stick to their breakfasts in future.

This is a really good local cafe. family run and incredible value for money. if you want posh food with fancy ingredients then go elsewhere but if you want a fry up or pie, mash and chips for a fiver then this is the place to go.
