Excellent food, amazing service and a lovely view - what more could you ask for? We booked a pod which sheltered us from the breeze but was cool enough (even under the full-on sun) to keep us comfortable. Highly recommend a visit.

My family hired out the View to host the wake for a loved one. I cannot begin to praise the team enough for the fantastic way they helped us organize. The venue has the most perfect setting overlooking rolling hills, the chef was super accommodating to our needs, and the managers were just so helpful and attentive. Can’t rhank them enough. For a birthday or any special occasion this is the perfect venue to hire out .

What a fabulous venue , staff were courteous and attentive, food was delivered quickly and was amazing , good portions and very tasty . I had the plant burger which was very tasty , also the apple tartlet again really lovely . All in all a very enjoyable evening.

I am utterly appalled by the experience my daughter and her partner had at The View on their 5th anniversary. They made a telephone booking for the pod on August 1st, with special requests for it to be decorated to make the occasion special and were promised complementary ice-cream. Upon arrival, they were informed there was no record of their booking, there was a power cut, and the kitchen was closed. To make matters worse, the pod was not decorated and was situated overlooking a car park, contrary to the beautiful country view depicted online. The staff member they dealt with showed a complete lack of concern about any of these issues, turning what should have been a joyous celebration into a total disappointment. The apology given was insincere and did nothing to address the situation. They were offered a pitiful 20% discount if they returned, which wouldn't even cover the petrol they used. This feeble offer is not even close to proper compensation. I am devastated by how this special day was ruined. I strongly advise against visiting this place. This was an utterly dissatisfying and disappointing experience. While I understand power cuts are beyond their control, the lack of customer service and misleading portrayals of the pod experience advertised online are inexcusable.

We ordered burgers from the pub restaurant whilst we were staying at the birch accomodation connected to the pub . The staff were kind and delivered them to the lodge We ordered 2 chicken burgers and 1 vegan burger. They were amazing, the cheese and bacon with the chicken burgers was delicious. These really are gourmet burgers. The staff are so friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The food is outstanding and we definitely will be coming again.

Haven't been here for a few years and it was the Live and Let Live, sadly we won't be returning soon. Couldn't sit in the beer garden and see 'the view' on a lovely sunny Sunday as it was sectioned off for a baby shower. Had to sit down on the lower terrace. Ordered 3 starters for £18 - breaded mushrooms were only just warm and watery so they were returned to the kitchen to be heated up properly and the BBQ chicken wings had a second sauce added around them which was hot and spicy so my mum couldn't eat them. Chef told server the sauce was the same as on the wings but it was a darker colour and we got her to try it and she agreed. She spoke to the chef again who then confirmed he'd put the wrong sauce on the plate! They removed the starters cost from our bill but we would've preferred not to have had the bad service. Main courses were ok; good portion of chicken on Caesar salad but roast dinner is £17.50 which is quite expensive compared to other pubs, but to top it off we were charged for 3 glasses of wine when we only had 2! At least the servers were good and very apologetic...

My daughter booked one of the pods on site for my birthday. The food was excellent, I had the mushroom risotto with grilled chicken and I have never tasted one so nice. The service was excellent very good prices for food and drinks and the office Chiltern Hills across the way was beautiful. I will definitely be returning.

What a horrible place. Completely empty on a warm sunny evening, when it should be very busy with the location it has. Two male bar staff with two of their friends sat at the bar - constant swearing while serving me, swearing at each other and at their friends while serving me and my wife - I am not your “mate” don’t refer to customers this way. Management need to remove these unprofessional people - no wonder it was empty - until new staff come in I recommend you avoid this place

What a fabulous night we have just had in on if the pods, amazing views, delicious food, fantastic service and all at a very reasonable price. Thoroughly, thoroughly recommended.

We booked one of two pods facing the amazing view of Pegsdon hills for dinner. There was a heater and lighting so all was comfortable. Service was great with the waiter popping out frequently to see if we needed anything. All the food was delicious and freshly cooked. We will definitely go again!

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Great food, great service and reasonably priced. Perfect after a walk on the Pegsdon Hills. Have no idea how it’s not rated higher on this website. Criminally underrated!

The pub has been refurbished and renamed as The View. We had lunch here. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the food was good, with a wide choice from sandwiches to full meals. Some of our party commented on the odd decor of the refurbishment, with shiny plastic plants and mushroom coloured walls in a building that is already quite dark inside. But overall it was a nice experience and I would return happily.

The venue lives up to its name with fabulous views towards the Chiltern hills. With the warm sunshine, we chose to dine on the nice patio. The service was excellent with Nathan looking after us well. The food was served in good time, and was hot and nicely presented. I had the fish and chips, and my wife had the gammon. Both meals were splendid, especially the square cut chips. Reasonable prices for the food and drinks, and so will be there again soon.

We were visiting family in the area and booked one of the "chalets" at the back of The View to spend the night. Reviews suggested that the place had become more of a restaurant than a pub so we had decided to head off to another local hostelry to grab something to eat, but that didn't really work out, so we returned to The View and were pleased to find they had a table free for us. The atmosphere was more like a pub than "fine dining", so that pleased us, the food was great, the staff excellent, and we enjoyed a quiet night's stay in our chalet with a marvellous selection of tea, coffee and chocolatey treats! In the morning we set off (following a breakfast of cereal and milk supplied by The View) for a long circular walk, then returned for lunch, which was also lovely. Ten out of ten for this place - well done!

I don’t usually write reviews but I was so very disappointed with my meal and the service today at The View. I’ve eaten here a few times a year or so ago and really enjoyed it, but things have definitely slipped since. Our starters were lovely but when our main meals arrived the waitress walked off as my Mum was asking for some vinegar. My mum’s meal was lovely but mine was clearly over-cooked. The chips were over done and the burger was served without its lid and the cheese was clearly over done too – so much so I wasn’t sure if it was cheese or a sauce! I don’t like making a fuss so I tried to eat it, however, the underside of the burger was so burnt I could barely cut it! I tried scraping it off and eating the other side but it just tasted chargrilled. At no point did the waitress come over and check things were ok with our meals. Eventually, long after finishing the waitress came to clear our plates and I mentioned I was unable to eat the burger due to it being burnt. She apologized and took it off our bill and then quickly walked off. I was hoping to order a dessert as that way I would have had enough to eat. We waited and the waitress never came back. Eventually we got up and asked to order desserts, only to be told no as the kitchen had now closed! At this point I’d had enough. We went up to the bar again to get the bill and said how disappointed we were with the meal and service and that I was going to write a review. At this point they were very apologetic and offered to get us a dessert, or upgrade us to a pod. Too little too late sadly – this should have been offered when I first mentioned I couldn’t eat my meal because it was burnt!

We had a lovely lunch and well looked after by very friendly staff. I highly recommend a walk to the top of Pegsdon hill first to fully appreciate the location... and to work up an appetite too!

Must say the Food was stunning today, and great size portions. A well done to the Chef. One star off perfect for having to go to the bar to get my Bill, when we were the only table. But staff were definitely friendly.

Myself & my boyfriend visited last night and stayed in their Beech Lodge for our one year anniversary. Considering that their head chef had left the staff high and dry earlier in the week, Nicola made sure that our night was still going to be perfect given the difficult circumstances. Nothing was too trouble at all. Nicola even went as far to go out, whilst being very busy, to buy gluten free pasta so that I was able to have a nice meal. Anyone else who is coeliac or has severe allergies can understand that it’s not always the easiest when going out for meals, however I have never felt so grateful to have waiting staff care so much & bend over backwards to ensure I would have a nice meal/experience! Thank you Nicola, Jeanine & Maddie! You really are a great addition to The View and all your hard work was definitely appreciated by us! We will be back to visit you very soon!

Absolutely terrible this was a Sunday lunch that was stone cold and had one potato cut up to look like more ! When challenged they were not interested at all.

My wife and I went for our anniversary and had a really nice meal. 3 courses, wine and coffee and found it to be very reasonable. Would definitely go back!

Would have given no stars if possible, coffee was sh*t, hot chocolate was mediocre, parking policy was militant and pedantic and the staff were hardly friendly, if you like crap atmosphere and sh*t drinks then this is the place for you!

Friendly staff and a lovely setting plus there were plenty of gluten free options clearly marked. Even the sticky toffee pudding was gluten free and the staff were happy to double check the allergen sheet which was readily available.
