Awful and rude staff well not all just MARK he seems like he is a manger or something I aren’t too sure if he is but I think he is very power happy and the way he speaks to you is wrong and talks down to you as if he owns the place and treats you with complete disrespect , disgusting environment dirty plates left on our table for a long time. Happily go and visit food is on but do not go when mark is on shift (older guy)

Visited here in our lunchtime, ordered lunch at 1:05, pub wasn't particularly busy, we were told a funeral was coming it at 1:30 but had time to order just 2 lunch sandwiches. In the time we were there they only brought out 5 meals for other people. We asked at 1:40 if we were getting our food and were told it was being "plated up"! At 1:50 we decided we had to go as had to be back at work at 2. They then decieded to bring the food out but unfortunately no time to eat it and had to get money back and unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened. They need to either get more staff on at lunch time as they can't cope with the staff they have or tell customers if they can't get food out in time for someone to eat it within an hour.

Super tasty food at a fairly cheap price. Nice and clean environment. Friendly bar staff. Lots to coose from on the menu.

Lovely night , our server Josh was really nice and pleasant, one meal not on normal standard but that was sorted immediately and effectively. Our server Josh asked us if everything was ok, he was really attentive and this was very much appreciated and made our night perfect.. Also thank you to Mark for sorting out our issue with the meal.. both of you made our night … the best pub and staff in the town

Excellent as usual. Really can not find any fault with this place! Food was delicious......i had lasagne in red wine with salad and garlic ciabatta bread. My partner had rump steak cooked exactly how he asked for it.....served with chips, peas and tomato.......all very tasty. A beautiful modern pub with lovely friendly staff who give speedy service. Highly recommended 👌

Ordered a main, thick cut gammon for £12 (thick cut described on the menu) the gammon than came was only a tiny bit bigger than a slice of bacon and well over cooked even the pineapple was bigger than it. Emailed ember inns to complain only to get a email saying they'll let their suppliers know. I'll never go again

Such a beautiful pub. We always visit for special occasions. We have had many birthdays here. Visited for my mum's birthday and she had a lovely time. The chicken pie is amazing

Decided to have a takeaway ordered it for 5pm then at 4-30 decided to ask for it early, was told No problem, at 5-05 I got it only because one of the bar staff realised, I was still waiting, got it home only edible things was the gammon n pineapple only when warmed up, chips were like bullets. Worse money I have spent. Considering Sophie took the order and said no problem, what a shambles. I Await a response from the Pub Manageress, who took order

Have ordered a Sunday lunch for delivery from here before, however, not for some time. The food that I received yesterday was absolutely appalling! The chicken was so overcooked that the bones were falling out of it. Also, received another piece of 'chicken ' which was burnt and full of bones. 2 miniscule 'strands' of broccoli. The rest of the vegetables consisted of peas and 'shards' of root vegetables which were inedible. Roast potatoes were thin small slices of potato which were burnt and swimming in grease. The pot of gravy was only a quarter full, and tasted like gravy granules. The only edible item was the Yorkshire pudding which was excellent. The pig in blanket was burnt. Had to reheat as it was cold , however, only ate the Yorkshire pudding. The rest went into the bin! Who serves a Sunday lunch without any mashed or boiled potatoes? Would have liked cauliflower cheese and also some stuffing with the chicken. I ordered 2 other meals for a family member also. (bacon and cheeseburger and scampi and chips.) I ordered mash instead of chips with burger, thinking that I could have the mash on my roast dinner, however, got sent chips! Very small portions/ poor quality ingredients. Do not waste your money ordering food for delivery from here! Other comments in reviews suggest that it has new owners? Trying to cut costs by serving cheap and poor quality food is not working!

Visited tonight and had drinks and food with friends, there was a little hick up with the order but Enkle who was working sorted the issue out and delt with it professionally and would of done anything to help. The staff were great and polite the food was delicious, definitely worth a visit and will be back

Went for the Festive Lunch, had booked a table for 4. Went to order and was told it was not on as they had not had a delivery. Asked for Mulled Wine advertised with a sign on the bar to be told hadn't time to do it. (Then move the sign). Not impressed and and went else where and had a lovely Festive Meal for less cost.

My wife and I and our eldest booked for Sunday lunch. We were not disappointed. My wife and I started with a beer battered mushrooms and our son had nachos. The batter was to die for. Then my wife and I had the beef rib and the boy had the duo. It came with plenty of veg and a very good Yorkshire pudding. It also came with a beef gravy for us and a chicken gravy for our son. Really enjoyed the whole experience. We'll be back.

We attrended here for a wake after my dads funeral. The staff were so attentive, the food was beyond amazing. Made us feel so welcom

Had a long wait for the meals to be delivered and when they did arrive one of them was absolutely freezing cold. The others were piping hot. So this one must have been standing for a long time. We waited so long to get our meal that the cold meal was eaten rather than wait even longer. The sweet was ordered and that was wrong, but at least it was all hot. Good value for money, if all had been correct but unfortunately we were disappointed with the overall experience

Last minute booking for after a funeral. Everything spot on. Went way above and beyond to help. Food fantastic. Staff fantastic

Lovely building. Ate here on a Wednesday lunchtime. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We found a table and ordered our food and drink at the bar. The drinks were brought to the table and the food arrived with not too long a wait. I had the Posh Fish and Chips which uses sea bass, it was delicious. The rest of the family had sea bass, chicken pie and hunters chicken and all the meals were delicious. A lovely setting with good service

Bit disappointed this time try to meet up with a friend for lunch once a month but discovered they have now changed the lunch menu. The sandwich selection on bread was now just a fish finger sandwich. All other options which there wasn't many to choose from were all on ciabatta. Decided to pay for our drinks and try somewhere else. Shame really because it was such a convenient place for lunch when you only have 1 hour.

Lovely place, and we were shown straight to our reserved table for 4. Ordered 4 mains and drinks, served straight away at the bar. Lady that served us accommated our 1 fussy eater with no problems when they wanted to change certain items of their meal she also helped us with carrying the drinks to the table. Food came quickly and was very nice, 2 fish and chips, 1 gammon meal and 1 chicken and ribs meal. Real nice food, 4 clean plates. Ordered puddings, 3 mini puddings with coffees, and 1 sticky toffee pudding with a tea. Again served promptly and 4 empty bowls. Used blue light card, and they do 25% off food and drinks. Great meal, fab service will definitely be visiting again

Not a particularly good experience. There was an hour wait for our food (which they did tell us about. Should have walked away then). When my food finally arrive, the chicken wings were dry and so was my half rack of ribs. Very very disappointed. Don’t think we’ll be going back. Staff were doing their best, but the quality of the food let them down.

We came here today for lunch on a Tuesday. It was quite busy but not too bad. We ordered our food on the app and it took over an hour to come which is absolutely ridiculous. The staff were rude and didn’t even apologise for the wait time. Won’t come again.

We booked online for a 6 pm meal. We arrived at 5.45 and the person behind the bar checked our booking on an iPad. However the table wasn't ready and drinks were suggested. We would be told when the table was ready. By 6.30 we were still waiting. We managed to speak to the person who initially dealt with us. She said she had forgotten about us but would sort it. She came back and led us through the dining area. There was two tables reserved. one for 6.30 and one for 7.00. There was no table reserved for us. It was suggested that we could have the 7 pm table. This was next to two open double into the garden. We had the mother-in-law who does not like the draft. The arrival of the people who had actually reserved this table was of some concern. Another option offered was to eat in the garden. This was also unsuitable. We decided that we were flogging a dead horse and said we were leaving. We paid the bar bill and left. I make a blunder of not reading reviews before booking. I think this experience must be the worst ever in visiting pubs for a meal. They really need to sort out their problems.

Had the best family meal here yesterday afternoon. We booked a table online for my sister's birthday. This pub is beautiful inside. We were delighted by the top notch food that we were served and the staff working were all excellent; very attentive! It was rammed when we got there so clearly a popular place to go. I can see why!

Booked in advance over a month ago & had to pay a £30 deposit which was fine There were 7 of us there to celebrate my mum's birthday & in was mothers day as well so expected to be busy,We ordered food starters arrived in good time & the starters were nice I do think they could improve the king prawn cocktail but over all starters were nice. Main meal arrived again within good time,most of us went for the Sunday dinner,half way through my mum eating hers she found a piece of plastic in her vegetables & within 2 minutes so did my daughter,we mentioned this to a staff member that was very apologetic but if it wasn't for a family member stating we would like a refund then we would of only got a (sorry about that) apparently there veg comes in plastic bags & that's how plastic ended up in 2 of our meals.anyways we have orders the 3 course meal deal which is on a Sunday, the mini waffles come with either tea or coffee, Desserts arrived with no coffee so we had to go & ask for them,all though the staff were lovely & you could tell they were under pressure it felt like I was been interrogated & they double check my order to make sure we were allowed them.After that I question my £30 deposit that had not been retracted from my bill after a little confusion from a young staff member & other staff member came apologized again & refund me the £30 deposit. All in All not a good experience. Would not be returning or recommending.

Waited for 45 mins to be served with a steak that was completely inedible could not cut complained and offered an apology by waitress most apologetic could not get replacement steak as may be the same opted for gammon only marginally better asked and given refund no apology from manager who was busy sorting out other diners problem s will never go again however it will probably have been shut permanent

Decided to make an ad-hoc visit to The Victoria, a pub I've been to a few years ago, which I recall being OK at that time.On this occasion, not so much.If you're vegan, this isn't the place for you. Very limited options (despite online reviews claiming there's a good menu). For £10.29, you can get a 'Veggie Burger' with chips, with the vegan variation being exactly the same price, with the chips (cross-contamination) being replaced by a 'dressed salad'. When I can go to Wetherspoons, get a DOUBLE Beyond Meat Burger with chips, a side and an alcoholic beverage for circa £12, I consider the £10.29 Veggie Burger to be an absolute rip-off. Despite the venue not being busy, service to other diners was remarkably slow. After a soft drink for my partner and I (£5.10 - another rip-off), we left and went elsewhere. Unfortunately, the last time we'll ever visit this restaurant. Just to clarify, the vegan menu options are as follows: PASTA BAKE (V)Oven baked stuffed pasta with tofu, spinach, smoked paprika and basil. What sort of pub doesn’t do plain tonic water to go with your gin? Followed by a really rude response from the manageress. A once wonderful venue is now the pits!

It took over two hours to get served with one course and two drinks. One poor lady run ragged trying to take orders and serve drinks whilst another (manager I presume) ignored all but regular customers.This pub needs more staff or less customers. Not the best of experiences.

Went to tonight to celebrate our anniversary and the food was shocking. Sent back and still came back as undercooked. First night out out ! Won't be returning. Such a shame as we have always had good service and lovely food. Place needs a bloody good overall and so does the chef !Ruined evening and not one we can ever get back !

Went 16/10/20, track and trace was good. All table service. Staff are brilliant, the lady that served us on table 16 is sooo nice. We had steak and it was cooked to perfection. The wine is a reasonable price. My favourite place

Track & Trace bad, app. on door waste of time you just walk in, No names taken, Multiple people just walked in, Bad.2 staff on, No table service, you had to go to bar order food & drinks, No visors on bar, Menus handled by anybody not laminated, how do they keep them germ free?Drinks and cutlery brought to table on dirty tray, No serviettes had to ask.Coffee cold, No jacket potatoes but baby potatoes!! No gluten free menu?Not asked if we wanted receipt, Not asked if food ok, Plates not cleared after finished meal. Worst place we have been in Stoke on Trent, for not being Corvid compliant.This is likely to be where the next outbreak will be? Thought I would give this once wonderful pub a second chance, wish I hadn’t. Pub is in desperate need of a refurb, I can accept that, but the food was bland the customer service generally going through the motions. This pub has lost all its character and charm, little atmosphere and not that busy, garden areas untidy and overgrown, the staff lack character and true professionalism. Come on Ember Inns, get a decent professional manager in, revamp pub and you are sitting on a goldmine !!!

As promised, we visited The Victoria pub for lunch again on the 29th January 2020 recently. We have been a few times lately as it is close to home. It just gets better and better. The staff were very helpful, friendly and polite and took time to help and advise with the food order for the three of us. Hubby had the gammon steak, egg, chips, peas and chunk of pineapple. Mum had the better quality of fish,chips,peas and tartare sauce. I had the scampi, chips, peas and tartare sauce. We all had a drink each and the bill was very reasonable. My meal was the best I have experienced there. Very hot and wonderfully delicious.Thanks again for a lovely visit.

Our party of seven visited on the 6th December 2019. Some of the family live locally and it is our doorstep pub. I wrote a review on the 1st October 2019 for when we visited on the 28th September 2019. I said we would be back and we did in December for a family get together before Christmas.Once again, we had a pleasant visit and meals in the Victoria. Service was a little quicker but then it was still busy. The meals are good value for money. The Scampi and fish meals were nice. One meal in the party was luke warm and resent back to the kitchen to be reheated, which wasn't a problem and apologies accepted but it does seem to be a tiny recurring niggle on visits. (Family members visited this week 8/1/20 and their chips were cool) Staff were polite, pleasant, helpful and the atmosphere homely and welcoming. We will still visit as it is a nice place to visit for get togethers and pub food at good value.

This is a nice pub with a nice atmosphere. The food however was very disappointing. Lovely place for a drink. We were a large party of 14 and we were all disappointed with the food.

The potatoes were SMash.. On two of the main courses, one as a topping, and the other as the main potato choice. Surely that stuff should be outlawed! Wouldn't recommend it..

We are regulars to The Victoria but six of us went during the second week of December and we were all disappointed. On ordering at 8pm we were told that there was no haddock, no scampi, no ember beef pie, no lamb hot pot and no katsu curry so most of us had to settle for second choice meals - not a good start!We had to wait an hour for the food which was ok when it came but the whole eating area was depressing, the log fire had not been lit nor had the candles on the tables and their was not any xmas lights. Does anyone care at this place?

Four of us went for a family meal on a Tuesday evening in early December. The only reason that I have not given it a "Poor" rating is that they were very apologetic and gave us free desserts in recompense for nearly an hour's wait. We had burgers and fish and chips, so nothing too complicated. Quality was just OK. Desserts were tasteless. This place has gone really downhill lately.

I don’t know what has happened to this place, very slow service. Poorly run, lost it’s identity, doesn’t know if it’s a place for young ones or more sophisticated crowd, massively in need of refurb, brewery are missing a trick here, good location, could easily become a orange tree or wayfarer etc went last week and was like a teenage disco, very loud music, surprised neighbours didn’t complain, with fighting outside. No one more than me is disappointed how this pub has changed over the years, go the shed instead, much better in every way

I attended here as part of my works christmas meal. I ordered the 8oz rump steak and it was SUPERB! Rarely have I had a better steak. The only downer was that they are hopelessly understaffed. Loads of people complaining about waiting to be served or getting bills etc.

I went to the Vic for the quiz night last week with my wife, daughter and son in law . On the whole we had a good time and I would give the meals a 4 for what we had bearing in mind the price but the drinks a 3 . The reason for this is because firstly they are too dear and secondly although there is a sign advertising the real ale deals in the gents the actual price charged for the real ales is not consistant with the sign and some guest real ales are charged more than others . Very confusing and just needs a price of that particular ale putting in front of the handpump like Wetherspoons do ............. very simple answer

Visited this evening with a party of 14. Our meals were pre-booked, but still took an age to be served. The odd one was said to be good but the majority, supposedly a Christmas Turkey dinner were just about warm. Tasteless roast parsnips, tough roast potatoes and a sad selection of vegetables. The turkey was tasty though.The soup, by account, was extremely spicy, the gravy, with no options, was laced with garlic.In my opinion, nothing was freshly cooked. Very disappointing. Three of the meals were re-reimbursed on complaining to the manager but it was really not good enough.

I have been several times with one or two people and found the service OK. However recently with a group of 20 who had pre-booked, informing the restaurant of all the main choices, it was a disaster. The main courses arrived over a period of 45+ minutes. The first well finished before the final ones arrived and they only appeared after complaining. They said they were out of some of the choices in spite of pre-ordering a week in advance. I would like to think that there were some exceptional reasons for the bad service but some others said they had seen similar problems when attending in a group. They clearly can't cope with large groups (if indeed 20 is large). We didn't bother ordering the desert -lost our appetite. The food was good but the event spoilt by the poor service

We have been to the Victoria Hotel a few times now but today it was very disappointing. It was lacking in any festive atmosphere and we had reserved a table weeks ago for the Xmas menu but when we arrived they said they were overbooked and placed us in a corner in the main bar area. We were moved after we complained. There certainly hadn't been much effort into making it a festive experience like how it was last year. However, on a positive note the food was actually very nice albeit odd for a festive fayre! There was no sprouts or stuffing or carrots with the turkey and you had to pay extra for pigs in blankets but they gave you a Yorkshire pudding...what's that all about!! All in all the pub is good for general menu but lacking in Christmas spirit.

Early evening meal and drink. Food was good and selection of beers and wines was also good topped of with good prices and excellent service from the staff.

Enjoyed food and atmosphere family all had a good time. Open fire great set menu and wonderful children’s menu.

I went to the Victoria today, the service was exceptional and the food was first class, was lovely and cosy, will definitely be returning.

Took twenty minutes to get a drink at the bar ,no menu on the tables ,then the food took a hour too turn up and when it did it was burnt ,have been here a few times before and it wasn’t as grim as this never to return

Being as the Victoria was on the doorstep we thought we would have a family lunch there so we booked a table for 1pm for six adults and a toddler recently on Saturday 28th September 2019.

Limited menu, no offers , tables very squashed in considering its such a big pub, ordered the curry but was told it was off so had the vegy option which consisted of one floret of colly , some very dry rice ( comes to something when you cant even warm rice up in the micro) , my partner had the hunters chicken, the peas were grey , the the chips were hard and basically the chicken mainly black. Dissapointed as last time we we went a year a ago it was ok, clealry gone down hill. Polilte vicar better in every department.

The seabass here (posh fish and chips) and king prawn starter was to die for!! Honestly the best tasting seabass I have had since being in Dorset next to the sea!

Really enjoyed the Sunday roast I think it was the tastiest beef and tenderest pork I've eaten for a while. the whole dinner was lovely. also the boys mixed grill and the ribs were soooo good! All said it was a lovely meal, reasonably priced with super friendly staff , we will be eating there again

Called in here at 12.15 for lunch to be told the majority of the pub was taken for a funeral. The only seating was around the bar area. We decided to stay only to then have a 40 min wait for food. None of the staff cracked a smile and i found them actually quite rude. Our meal came but it was nothing to get excited about. In the time it took to bring the meal out we saw several people come in and leave straight away. It was not a comfortable experience at all. In the time we came in and left the funeral guests had not arrived so they lost a lot of custom. Speaking to other people it appears funerals are there priority. I suggest giving this place a miss. Visited this pub / restaurant to meet business associates. They have some sort of silly parking scheme, designed it would seem so that if you mistype your registration they can bill you for £££.

Staff very friendly service very good but the food was abismal. I had a pie which was a slice warmed up in a microwave and a jacket potato which must have been either cooked the day before or very early that day it was very dry and tasted old it was actually inedible. I would definitely not recommend this place to eat and will not be visiting here any time soon

Gorgeous Sunday lunch over Easter with the family. Starters, mains and desserts ordered. Lovely staff too. Will definitely return!

This pub is one of those family-friendly eating type chains that I tend not to like.

What a great place decor is beautiful very tasteful done, food was excellent only downfall was the ladies toilets they definitely need a revamp.

6 of us ate here again last night, wish it was on our doorstep as we would be in every night! Says it all when it was really busy on a Monday night. Spotlessly clean, always cosy and welcoming and service spot on and friendly. All of our meals were fab, really tasty and you absolutely can’t go wrong for the price, love it here keep up the good work!

Met some friends here for a meal and a catch up. The food was nice and we all enjoyed what we chose. The puddings were lovely and a good end to the meal.

Went as a couple for cheap and cheerful night out. Great atmosphere- busy but not over powering. Food came out quickly and hot. Tasty and plenty of it. Great value for money for a cheap and cheerful pub.

We called in for a quick Sunday lunch. The service time was slow but for good home cooked food we really didn't mind. We both chose the triple meat Sunday lunch as we were hungry. As this is £1.50 more than the single meat we expected to get a little more meat. What we got was disgraceful, three of the smallest slices of meat, no more than 5cm squared and very thinly sliced, less than you would have got on a single meat roast and half of the slice of pork was fat. The roast potatoes were roasted on one side but not the rest of it. At £9.99 each this was the worst value for money and possibly the worst Sunday lunch we have ever had.

The pub was vibrant,very warm and we would not hesitate to go again.

Visited just before our annual theatre trip, as I noted they had a vegan menu when visiting previously. We told that there would be a 45min wait for food, due to there being a private function. We were okay for time so decided to order straight away. I opted for the Roasted Cauliflower Curry served with basmati rice. Our food arrived 30mins or so later, so less than they anticipated 45 - the service was good, no complaints even with the wait for food. The staff were helpful, there was a missing item off one of the children’s meals and this rectified straight away. Three meals plus drinks cost just over £24, average price for pub food I’d say. The bar is a nice venue for private functions also. Would happily dine here or any other Ember Inns due to their vegan menu being widely available.

Met up with friends for Christmas get together ; they were eating , we were just having a drink. It was Christmas Ever and we were surprised that we had no problem getting served at the bar even though the venue itself was very busy. ( A lot of empty tables with reserved on them) People coming in on spec being turned away,

A casual Christmas business lunch! From the outside an impressive pub. Inside ok! The reality a 3.5* but that would unfair. Decent food and cheaply priced . Bang average Coffees.

We went last night for a friends pre-Christmas catch up. One of the parties sister had been at the weekend and had had a terrible meal resulting in a refund and a voucher issued. We had paid the deposit so decided to still go as it was a different night and we were only a table of 5. We had lovely table reserved by the fire place. We all ordered rump steaks to be told when we got the bar that there we none so we ordered the sirloins. Food arrived, seemed OK, not boiling hot but warm. We all tucked in. The steaks looked Ok but when we started eating some of them were 40% gristle!! Not good enough. We ordered dessert but had to ask twice for them to be chased up and by then it was past 9 and the restaurant was dead. Won't bother again. The staff were nice but the food definitely lets The Vic down :(

The Victoria pub have gone to town with lovely Christmas decorations they also have a open fire. The choice of food was good. It was all severed hot and it was tasty. The choice of beers was excellent and the price of the food was very good value. Its a good place for a Christmas meal in a Christmas setting.

After a visit today to pay the balance for a Christmas booking, which should have been a pleasant experience, turned into a most unpleasant experience. We waited patiently to be served at both ends of the bar, one to pay for drinks, another to pay the balance for the Christmas meal. My husband ordered a pint while we waited for the booking payment to be completed (which took, without exaggeration, nearly 20 minutes to wait for). He politely asked asked for the long to be swapped as it tasted metallic. The barman agreed to do this. He then brought the same pint back in a different glass as we had seen him pour it straight into another glass. My husband told him he did not want the drink and wanted a refund due to the deceitful actions of the barman. It was made clear several times to the barman that we no longer wanted the drink, nor to remain in the pub, due to his actions. He was asked over 7 times to provide the refund (to which even his colleague told him to just give the refund). He still trusted the pint into our faces and insisted we had it as it was just an issue with the glass. His manner was rude and aggressive. By this point he was making a show of what was meant to be an honest request for a pint with no malicious intent, to which the rest of the bar was now witness. We felt uncomfortable and embarrassed over what seemed such a simple request. We have enjoyed over 10 years of boxing day dinners at the Victoria, however, due to the actions and the attitude of the barman (and manager, who was present at the latter end of the debacle and was ambivalent at best) this will be our last boxing day reservation. A real shame.

I visited for our Christmas meal with a male voice choir and, accepted there were over 50 of us, I had steak which was totally inedible. It was very difficult to cut, and impossible to chew. One of our members had a similar experience but is unable to review. Another member of the choir is a chef and commented that he could see that I was having problems with the steak and that he could also see that it was not a good cut of meat. I complained to the waitress who commented "I'll tell the chef", an offer of an alternative would have been nice or at least an apology. The salted caramel profiteroles for dessert were barely acceptable. The pate starter and the beer were quite good but overall, a very disappointing experience and I will be recommending that the choir seeks an alternative venue next year.

Visiting this evening, really relaxed and nice atmosphere, food was really good and value for money. Better still was the service provided by the staff was served by several of them, efficient, polite, helpful and friendly. We visited as a last minute decision but we’re so pleased we booked for ourselves and family a 3 course Christmas meal before we left which I have so say for the money looks good value......looking forward to returning.

Went yesterday with my wife and we chose the fixed price evening menu.food was very good,staff were excellent,nothing was too much trouble.

We have been to this pub several times now and we can’t fault the service or the food. Very delicious . The pub is very tidy, the staff are very polite, my mum is that impressed that she’s going for Christmas meal so this pub meets with her approval

Visited on Saturday 3rd November 2018 as a regular pub we go to. The pub is always nice and comfortable but this evening the gents toilets were an absolute disgrace with the floors soaking wet in whatever and the stench was disgusting with several urinals blocked and no hand drying facilities. The toilets here have been a shocking for some time now but tonight was worse than usual. Somebody really needs to get a grip and the decorating looks like they have used a stick to paint the toilets with.

i attended a family funeral buffet food lovely and place nice and cosy if wanted to attract more customers then needs cheering up a little

Brilliant service and good value,went forSunday lunch, staff helpful and quick service and would highly recommend Sunday roast.

The pub is quite plush with a good choice of drinks at reasonable prices. The food is exactly what one would expect, but that is not intended as a criticism. My wife and I enjoyed our meals and the pleasant demeanour of the bar and waiting staff. This was our fourth or fifth visit and we’d certainly go again.

Way tooo hot and uncomfortable in there.. every time we come here it is ridiculously warm and uncomfortable.. it putting us off going , it’s been our local for many years and have thought about going to the wulstan. You gotta sort out this, get some air conditioning in.. do something.. so many people complaining and sweating bar staff ...

The outside of the building looks grand and inviting. The food however is neither of these things. Poorly executed food and tasteless. Only scored a two and that’s for the staff who tried their best.

very busy on friday night but ordered food was served promptly and cooked to perfection yet again its really good value theyve also a lot of beers and real ales to choose from

We called in for a meal on a Saturday evening, staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food was superb accompanied with a pint of old speckled hen. Would recommend. It was busy so might be worth seeing if you can book if your a big party.

We visited one mid week tea time - we couldn't decide if to eat or not so while we made our minds up we ordered drinks at the bar.

I have never had a bad meal here.

Visited tonight first time since take over. Looked very cosy and inviting but sadly the food was not good at all. Some of our party had steak and sent them back they were such poor quality. The buttermilk chicken was overcooked dry and tasteless. Such a shame as its such a nice pub but needs to sort the food out.

I went for multiple visits, recently for Fathers day.

We stopped for drinks , it was a hot and sunny afternoon so we ordered drinks and moved onto a seating area on the grass and found a bench but when we looked around on the grass surrounding us it was laden with cigarette butts and paper , is it too much firstly to ask the smokers to put their butt ends into an ash tray or bin of some sort instead of discarding anywhere they like ? Also is it too much for the staff to periodically walk through these areas and clean all this up?! No it isn’t it should be kept spotless as children play in these areas and it certainly doesn’t and didn’t portray the pub in a very good light as far as we are concerned

I popped in here for a spot of lunch mid week after the bank holiday weekend. The pub was fairly quiet apart from a number of locals. There were 3 swearing drunken middle aged women sitting outside which should have been enough to put us off. On entering the unfriendly bar maid grunted"what do you want" which in all honesty I was shocked by. I suggest a customer service training session! We were only served once she had attended to the other drunk locals. The constant stream of lewd behaviour and bad language was non stop. I get it's a pub but that have some standards!

A very nice pub spoilt by unfriendly and unwelcoming staff. Would definitely recommend a trading session for staff in customer relations!

Went last night with a few work colleagues, I had the steak pie and chips. Unfortunately the pie was shocking, there must have been at least 3 pieces of steak sandwiches between a soggy bottom and a hard (not crusty) ‘hard’ top , a Wright’s meat and potato is better (think this was just shoved in a microwave). The chips weren’t brilliant either and the nacho starters (nibbles) were nearly cold (not hot) the place itself is nice, but to survive this VERY competitive market, you will need to up your game in the food dept I’m afraid. WILL NOT EAT HERE AGAIN, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EITHER. Shame really, home cooked food would be better!

Whilst sitting next to a mixed group of teenagers outside at the front of the pub for sometime they were approached by two members of staff who asked them for I.D, they were all able to show proof of age apart from one who wasn’t drinking anyway, however they still asked him to leave the pub. In my opinion they were very well behaved but the way they were spoken to was humiliating, there was no need to speak to them in the way they did. There were families sat there with children and quite a few of us thought it was unnecessary on the group of teenagers. If I was that group I wouldn’t spend any of their money there ever again and I certainly think that some of the staff could do with a bit of customer service training.

Not been here in years since it was a carvery. Heard it had a major makeover and now an a la carte menu. There was a lunch menu for 2 courses for £6.99 but was limited in choice so we ordered off main menu which were all quite pricey at around £10 for just one course. Was very underwhelmed on arrival, the portions were small for the price, hardly any chips, and not very appetising.

Went this evening 10th April ordered chicken and mushroom pie meals came out within a few minutes of ordering microwaved to hell so hot scalded my mouth asked for chips when ordering but got mash, which tasted powdery and processed like smash also why was a beef bisto style gravy served with a chicken and mishroon pie which had a cream sauce ?wasnt really a pie more a pot of vinigery slop with a pastry top...definitely wouldnt recommend for food this is third time eating here and each time disappointed wanting to give it one last chance Ember Inns need to improve standard of food offering
