Just what my dad and I were looking for, Due to Covid our usual place to visit whilst in Liskeard is closed for the duration of our break, we are staying at Premier Inn and food is standard chain food, we were looking for more home cooked style pub grub, This gem was recommended to us so we gave it a try, After a harrowing drive the long way round, we arrived in a small village on the moors to a warm welcome and seats by the log burner, Pie of the day special was chicken and ham, so we thought why not? What can I say, the pie was delicious, fresh veg and a good helping of mush, and a gravy jug to top it off, I was in heaven, The pie was delicious. The pie of the day is part of a deal where sweet comes free, however the pie beat both of us, so we forfeited dessert, Price good, food good, and Melissa is a credit to the place, chatty and friendly, nothing too much trouble

Credit where credit is due. Due to Daddios in Liskeards incompetence with delivery and the fact they don’t want to deliver to Pensilva we thought we would give the Victoria a try again. Not used for a couple of years. Then it was not great. This time it was great. The Fajitas was huge and tasty. Some left for lunch. The burger was good The fish and chips very good. Chips don’t normally travel well these were well cooked and arrived crispy. We will be back and want to try the pizza next time.

We decided to try this place again for a meal delivery & were extremely disappointed with the quality of the food delivered (although the portions were humongous- not a good start really when we’d ordered small portions. If you are a ‘big eater’ you’ll possibly enjoy the portion sizes. We’d ordered a side of onion rings expecting about 9/10 to share between us both - no over 20 were delivered. We’d ordered a small cod/chips & scampi/chips- beer batter was so thick on the cod it was still raw on the inside & the same with the scampi - chips were not cooked through either, the curry sauce was not good either, more like a granule mix - yuk. If any of our chefs/kitchen staff had put this food on the pass - no way would it have been served.

Had two meals here recently, fantastic. Good food, good service, good beer. I am writing this partly to support the pub due to two women who complained about their meals tonight. Totally unsubstantiated criticism from these two. The staff worked their socks off tonight and some people should think about them instead of themselves. Lovely evening, no complaints whatsoever, thanks the Victoria, we'll be back! 😁

Went into the Vic Pub for dinner this evening and all three of us had the roast in the very comfortable separate dining area prepared by the fantastic cook Paula. Absolutely huge portions and just cooked to the highest standards. This is one of those occasions where you couldn’t cook it better at home! We were amazed at the value when it came to ‘bill’ time. The pub is now under new ownership and is now offering much longer opening hours and even breakfasts on Friday and Saturday. I will start with the positives. This pub is unrecognisable from a few years ago. The decor isn't to my taste and not particularly 'country pub' but it's infinitely better than how it looked previously. It's also much cleaner and no longer smells of wet dog!! We went for a cavery on a Sunday. I cannot complain about the food at all. There was a good selection of vegetables and the meat was well cooked. We didn't have deserts but they looked nice. The drinks were reasonably priced as was the meal itself. The problem with this place is the complete lack of service. It's really quite bizarre. You walk in and are not gulf shown to a table or even asked if you want a table. Half our party had a drinks order taken at the table but others had to go to the bar and wait a considerable while to get a drink. No waitress came to the table to tell you to go up to the carvery. Restaurants sometimes give you a ticket for the carvery or ask you to go up at certain times to avoid a big queue. This place didn't which was fine but it would have been polite to tell us that you can go up and help yourself make when you want. The wine options were limited and pretty poor. We weren't offered desert and the plates were left on the table for some time. When you got a staff members attention they were all very nice. They just didn't seem to know how a restaurant normally operates. It's just all a bit odd!! In saying all this, if you are happy to completely ignore the service then the roast dinner itself wasn't bad. It's certainly not a fine dining place and you can find better Sunday lunches around this area but for the price this was pretty good. I hope the service picks up as if it does I think we would eat here quite regularly.

Bread was stale. Salad limp. Stilton was excellent.. No puddings on the menu. Just a choice of cakes/gateaux in a cabinet that all looked like they had been there too long. I will never return. I visited here with 5 family members recently and we were so disappointed that we will certinally not be returning. We were shown to our table, and the waitress informed us she would be back to take drink orders, yet she clearly forgot! I ended up going to the bar to order our drinks. We were not offered a menu or informed of time to go up to the carvery, after 20 mins of being sat there like lemons we asked the nice chef behind the carvery if it was OK to come up, he informed us it was... still no sight nor sound of any waitress. We ate our food which was nice and tasty, yet once finished still no sign of any waitress. Many of us had also finished our drinks and would of ordered more if we had of been given the opportunity. 25 mins after finishing our food a waitress finally arrived, who asked us to hand her our plates!!!!!! She simply could of taken them from inform of us! We were then offered the dessert menu and we accepted, we chose our desserts and decided upon coffees too... but yet again no waitress showed up. After 15 mins of holding dessert menus we decided to leave. I would be a little more understanding if the resturant had been busy but it wasn't. Me and my entire family were extremely disappointed. Good food does not make up for quite possibly the worst service I have received.

We only visited there off the back of the reviews on here as it came up as local to where we were staying. Well done to all those reviewers that guided us to it! Has a pub like feel to it even thought it is more restaurant kind of complex where you eat. Very laid back friendly staff and the bar area is just as nice to eat in. The carvery itself was just out of this world! More meat that you can eat is put on to your plate and the selection if the veg is prefect. Really can not recommend this place enough. The internal appearance of the dining room is that of a canteen even though it has been recently refurbished. The vegetable curry was clearly made up from tinned or frozen selection of peas, carrots, and green beans in an unappetising looking sauce. The fish and chips were swimming in surplus water from the garden peas (mushy peas were ordered, but they had run out). We were staying in a cottage nearby. We ate here three times, all good. The Carvery on Sunday was excellent!! Lots of meat, tasty parsnips, leek in cream sauce and the stuffing was fantastic. Had a steak midweek, good pub grub. Last meal I had the pork loin special, sadly this was a little dry. Good beer, nice prices and an asset to the village. I would go back.

We have visited the pub on several occasions sometimes eating in the new restaurant but recently in the lounge bar where we can take our dog. The carvery has a great selection of meat and veg. We've not been disappointed to date the steak was particularly good

I am a great believer in supporting local restaurants and this has been our 4th visit since it opened after the refurb. We easily got a table and our order was taken quickly. The wine arrived already opened and without an ice bucket to keep it cold. The starters arrived and whilst the platter was fine - the garlic brad was terrible had it been warmed in a microwave as the bread was hard at the edges and dry and the centre was greasy and soggy. The main arrived - it looked like a large portion I had the fish cakes and they arrived the size of cricket balls and looked good, they had just come out of the frying so were piping hot. Once I started to eat them they were just bland and lacked any real flavour, you have expected the bacon to come through and at least taste the brie. I left most of it.My other half had the pasta and the penne pasta was overcooked and watery and the sauce was terrible, she is not a fussy eater but ate only a couple of mouthfuls, it was very poor no herbs, no seasoning. We both had pudding that we both enjoyed.Sorry about the 2 stars but we will try once more, look at the feedback try your own food and make your own minds up. Its is has not improved next time we will go elsewhere..

We have been many times to this pub for the carvery, both on a Wednesday (OAP special) and Sunday. It has been consistently good, with generous portions of meat and a great selection of vegetables. This is one of the best things to have happened to Pensilva in a long time. Keep up the good work.Thoroughly recommended.

having had a great meal here in the past, I was really looking forward to Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, it was a little disappointing. Rubbery Yorkshire pudding and soggy roast potatoes (I think they may have been deep-fried). To be fair, it is near impossible to keep Yorkshire pudding warm without them becoming rubbery and they nay we'll have just had a delivery of not very good potatoes. Everything else, including staff was good.

My husband was working in the area and noticed it had been refurbished/extended and booked the restaurant for a meal for my birthday. We had a sharing platter for starters, which was lovely and loads of it. I had a curry and he had steak and chips and the portions are plentiful and cooked to a very high standard. First visit but we may well be back.

Village pub recently refurbished to include a restaurant. Called in on a Saturday night and was busy, obviously lots of locals there with families. Good choice of food with a specials board and very generous servings.

Had a nice meal out with friends, the new part of the pub is nicely decorated and fits in well. The extension is huge and I was surprised, we have been twice and am happy they have made a great start. With the only other choice in Pensilva the Wheal Tor that needs to change hands, The victoria is so much better with good service and great food - just what the village needs - we will of course be back soon.Keep up the good work.

we had heard from friends that the Victoria Inn had just reopened and is under new management. They said that the food was excellent and suggested that we try it. Wow, were they right. The building is newly refurbished and is well appointed and very clean. The waitress was very warm and helpful. The menu is small but every dish is completely home made from fresh ingredients; clearly a chef who cares about the food he/she prepares. A word of warning though, the portion sizes are large; we had a starter followed by a main course and it was just too much for us. The spare ribs are massive but delicious. This is not the sort of place you go to once, we will be regulars.

Under comparatively new management, this pub has just opened its new restaurant and is already a great success. With an interesting menu and a friendly atmosphere - together with Cornish ales - this establishment is going to 'fill a gap' in the local area. Prices are very reasonable and we'll certainly be returning on a regular basis. Well done the new owners!

We booked afternoon tea for family celebrations. Afternoon tea was presented beautifully and was delicious. Our waitress Pinka was friendly and looked after us. The special offer was a bonus too. Highly recommended!

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽‍♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
