We hosted our gender reveal gathering here on a Saturday evening and used the lounge as our private area. We booked last minute due to issue with a previous venue and the staff at Victoria went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. We hosted for 30 people including children and pre ordered food which went down a treat with our guest, everyone commented on how lovely the food was. A special thanks to Matthew, Emma and the chefs for all their help in making this special moment with family unforgettable. We are truly great and will certain return. Thank you again to all the staff x

Decided to go for Sunday lunch and we choose the Victoria in Surbiton. We choose to sit in a nice quiet area of the pub which was very pleasant. Member of staff came and took our order which was for two Roast Beef dinners. She obviously failed to notice that there was no cutlery on the table. Our meals then arrived when she did notice so went off to get us some. She was not gone long but on starting our meal they were certainly not hot. We did not get a chance to mention this as no one returned to ask if everything was okay nor at any time were we asked if we wold like a desert.

Me and my partner went yesterday out for a dinner, we ordered two portions of fish and chips, staff looked very unbothered to work, even though we waited quite a long time for table to be cleaned. The worst part was food poisoning when we got home, unfortunately I had to throw up, the whole following day I had stomachache. This is first time ever happened, Victoria used to be amazing place to go to. Hopefully they improve as prices are pretty high.

Great pub, really friendly bar staff and a great selection of wines. Went for a few drinks with a friend around 5ish on Saturday, odd to have a security person wandering around a pub at this time, maybe it’s normally more rowdy.

As recently out of lockdown we would have been happy anywhere to be back in a pub or restaurant again. However the expensive and disappointing selection on the menu was even served in paper trays and could only really be seen as a takeaway. We have been to the Victoria many times over the years and the food has always been reasonable. The last meal we had out in December was here and the food was not served like this then. It maybe that they are taking advantage of the current situation, but it maybe to their detriment when pubs start to fully open.

Me and my friends managed to to book a table just before surbiton went into tier 3 , table was clean the Young’s app was fantastic and efficient and the service was fast and sharp, my friends opted for starters and mains but I went straight in for a main course. My friends loved the roast cauliflower soup perfectly caramelised cauliflower finished with fresh herbs and toasted slithers of chestnut the drizzle of lemon oil to finish just lifted the soup to another level , salt baked beetroot’s , endive , red chicory , roast artichoke and orange pesto salad was to die for the earthiness of the beetroot and the sharp and bitter endive and chicory was married together with a beautifully executed orange and rocket pesto, next was the mains I opted for the the beef burger beautifully cooked burger nice and juicy with just the right amount of cheese fries were crispy but fluffy inside seasoned well, my friends got the sirloin and the mushroom tagliatelle, sirloin cooked medium rare, bearnaise sauce was light fluffy and had the correct amount of tarragon and acidity, triple cooked chips were cooked well. The will mushroom tagliatelle simply Devine beautifully seasoned sautéed mushrooms proper homemade (Tag) bound together in a sharp herb sauce finished with chestnuts and a cheese called Sussex charmer finely grated wow that cheese packed a lot of flavour and complimented everything on the plate, with everybody happy we ordered another drink (some smashing wines on offer at brilliant prices) in the meantime I went the toilet and just managed to peer into the kitchen the chefs were pumping out phenomenal volumes of food like a well oiled Machine mustn’t forget the waiters and bar staff who were really working hard and providing a a second to none experience fast and on point, Must mention Shannon the new manager popped over to see if everything was ok and it was, it’s always nice when managers check in with guests on their experience ... nicely done Shannon !All in all a very pleasant experience and can’t wait to go back when it’s safe.

On the basis that menu was limited for vegetarians at the time of my visit, I ordered a stuffed aubergine and chips. The menu described it as being stuffed with roasted veg, feta, and herbs. What I was served was merely half an aubergine, topped with just roasted carrots and parsnips. Not only was this not what the menu described it as, but it was extremely bland. Considering that I paid approx £12 for this, I would have expected something better. Normally I would have complained at the time of my visit, however due to the company I was with, this was not appropriate. Added to this I was with 4 other people who all ordered our food at the same on the app - however there was a gap of 15 - 20 mins between the first meal being served and the last. I can see from previous reviews that there are many unhappy customers, all of whom receive the similar response that this place aspires to 5*. The Victoria needs to do a lot better - there are many places in the area offering much better food and value for money. I will not return.

I went here last week with friends. I was really looking forward to sitting outside in the pub's lovely outdoor area near their fire-pit and enjoying a vegan burger - one I had previously eaten here. Unfortunately when ordering our required food (as per Covid rules in order to stay and drink) we were told that the 'plant based' burger was in fact no longer vegan. After more enquiry we were told that we could have the patty of the burger without the bun or cheese- which me and a friend decided to do. The 'plant based burger' was around £14. When they arrived the plate was 'brown' it was the 'patty' and then a bucket of chips on the side. Needless to say we were disappointed especially as other burgers were coming out laden with chips and extras on the side, and also because on a previous visit we had had the vegan burger and it was nice -nothing like this. It was also confusing as this vegan burger came with cheese and the waiting staff had told us they had no vegan cheese. We checked and now suddenly they reassured us it was vegan cheese- but this contradiction/ lack of clarity did not bode well and made me question if the chefs knew or cared if they catered for dietary needs at all. Fortunately my friend had the courage to complain pointing out that if the law was we could only sit and chat and drink with a substantial meal then they needed to offer everyone including vegans a 'substantial meal'. They went away and added some tomato and rocket, adding colour, but not substance. To be fair they did take the price of one of the 'burgers' off, but I will not be going here again to eat any time soon or recommending it to any of my Vegan friends, it is a shame as previously I have had great evenings and great vegan food at this pub. I am asking them what has changed? An overall disappointing experience.

First the good - the outside seating area was very nice, with big braziers and patio heaters keeping it warm (although our heater was not working). The staff were great, though a little slow, and the atmosphere very good. I was advised that the burger was gluten free. I assumed that it would come with a gluten free bun and alternative sides; it had neither. It was an overcooked, flat, thin burger with a slice of processed cheese on top. This was served on a thin layer of shredded lettuce and soggy, undercooked chips. It looked unappetising and tasted bland. I was charged full price (which I believe was a hefty £16). I didn't complain because it was my first night out with friends in months and I didn't want to ruin it. I wouldn't go back.

How wonderful to be able to meet up with 3 friends whilst still following the rules! The Victoria has created a large, yet still cozy, outdoor setting, complete with fires and individual heaters, where you can have a delicious snack (or meal). Staff were friendly and the food was excellent. Two quibbles: when our Sunday lunches arrived none of us were given sauces and we had to ask separately for them. Secondly, when we asked for the gas heater to be turned on, we were told that all three of them had run out of gas. It seems to me that if you are relying on eating outdoors (which most of us are at the moment) you really need the heaters to be working!

The place was clean, service was quick and efficient, and the food was delicious. I went for the Sirloin of beef roast which was cooked excellently to a medium rare! During our meal, the manager Ben came out with a bowl of water and some dog treats which we thought was a nice touch. Visited on Sunday at 3pm and they’d already run out of the veggie roast. Ordered the plant burger instead and it was very bland. My friends ordered the queen’s roast which was cold and fatty, and the stuffed aubergine which was the size of a starter. First the good. - We pre-booked seating outside. Staff controlled the entrance well. - The drinks were, well drinks. Hard to affect the quality it’s not like they make them on site. - Food was ok and the serving staff were pleasant. Now the bad. - Four mains delivered we ordered three- Drinks also seemed a bit random with the odd wrong pint arriving almost every time we ordered. - When the bill came it included all the things we sent back plus service. Combined that was about £50 overcharge. - No gas in any of the garden heaters so it was very cold. I can’t imagine they all ran out that day so maybe it would be hospitable to tell people when they book.- Huge side gate left open so anyone could walk in effectively making the impressive looking entry protocols meaningless. - People smoking everywhere outside under the covered area. When we asked the staff we were informed they were allowing it due to Coronavirus restrictions. Sorry guys. It’s still illegal. I know the hospitality sector is struggling really badly but you don’t do yourself any favours getting so much wrong. Most places I’ve been in the last month have provided noticeably better service than pre-COVID not worse.

Well I guess at the beginning would be a good place. We tipped up here as a three top with s lips and her dear old mum hoping for a nice evening and decent food. Pub is nice, have been a few times and we were optimistic the food would deliver too. We’ll start with the app which were encouraged to use. Couldn’t get it to work for toffee and the polite chap who came to our table couldn’t fathom it out either so we ordered drinks from him. All this faff meant it was about half hour before we were watered which is not where you want to be when you’re in a hostelry. The disarrono and coke came with Coke Zero rather than the standard variety making it pretty horrible. No one likes a drink laced with sweeteners at the best of times. The tea s lips mum has came with a jar of ancient looking sugars the lump she selected hadn’t even dissolved in the hot drink by the time she finished! I’ve never known somewhere to get sugar wrong! Then came food ordering and of course there was a limited menu consisting of seven mains. Well that was until we were told three of the items were out of stock - down to four options now. Wooppee do!S lip’s mum went for the flat iron steak (in place of the intended fish and chips which they didn’t have). S lips and I both ordered the burger. The food came and the flat iron steak came as a big slab of steak. My understanding was flat iron was a nice thinly sliced juicy bit of steak rather than a slab of sorry looking meat. The mixed leaves weren’t as mixed as one would hope. A few sorry bits of lettuce were passed off as this part of the meal. Worse still the fries had been replaced with a pile of frozen curly chips making it look like it was ordered off the kids menu. Curly chips with a £19 steak? That’s absolute sacrilege! As for the burgers these were served with sweet potato fries as opposed to standard fries as per the menu. We saw burgers served to other tables after this point had the sorry curly chips with them so obviously they had run out of plan b by this point. As for the burgers they were dry and tasteless. I was hungry so had most of mine but s lips had one bite and that was enough and she ended up getting a much better burger from the cheap kebab shop at the station which was very nice - readers take note. All in all in for food charged at a premium clearly they were struggling and were fitting square pegs in round holes and serving whatever they had left to substitute what they didn’t have. If this is necessary they should at least tell you as you’re not getting what’s advertised. These people are not obviously palming off stuff and hoping to get away with it rather than being upfront and telling you what they do and don’t have and what they will be giving you. The lack of transparency was embarrassing. Naturally we raised our feelings with our waiter who offered a starter of dessert to make amends. Given the experience there’s no chance we’d have eaten anything else. He also said the manager was too busy/didn’t want to speak to us and that he was quite new. Quite rightly we weren’t charged for the burgers, but the lack of leadership from the management is rather a sad state of affairs. The only positive about this place is the poor waiter chap dealing with all the shortcomings of this place and taking the flack from customers. In conclusion the food is very expensive and this place clearly only care about taking the money. Do not eat here and waste your money. Their sister pubs the waggon down the road and the black lion have the right idea so try them instead. This place has gone horribly wrong and without any leaders the ship here has well and truly sailed.

The staff (plenty in number) were far more interested in chatting to the locals than serving a walk in.I was surprised that even though I made eye contact with two of the bar staff, they were more interested in finishing doing setting up shelves/ moving boxes etc.For reference, this was mid afternoon, and there was no queue - there were 8 customers in the main area!I originally thought that one of the people in there was a customer, because he was having his lunch. Then he jumped up and started serving another group of people. When I was served, it was with a sigh. On the basis of the above, I won’t be returning. However, the Young’s beer was fresh. However the roast was just not really very good! £17.50 each for (very) overcooked beef, under seasoned average vegetables, soggy Yorkshire puddings and not that much gravy just isn't good enough. Saved by the friendly service and good choice of wine and beer (thought not cheap), but I wouldn't advise eating there. Might be better for non Sunday lunch, but I would save yourselves and your wallet and head to the Antelope or the Grove instead.

The pub and atmosphere are nice, if nothing particularly out of the ordinary.

Great service, great atmosphere and an all round great pub. Prices are not cheap, but it is worth it for a special occasion! Very nice outdoor area with toilets and covered seating areas. Tasty food and clean toilets. 5* all round :)

I was brought here by a friend to experience a real English Style Pub, and I was not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service was great. It has a nice sized beer garden in the back with wonderful vibes. I would happily eat and drink there again next time I'm in town.

Bank Holiday Monday - poor service, while staff drank and talked at the bar; soggy and tasteless fish and chips and rock hard steak and ale pie speciality, with raw green vegetables...all too ghastly to believe. Our cash prepayment for the food was refunded, at my suggestion.

We visited the Victoria this evening to celebrate my dad’s birthday. From start to finish the service was impeccable - the table was decorated as requested and we were treated above and beyond expectation. The garden is the best in surbiton. Our waitress of the evening was Rhea who was more than attentive towards our 2 children and made the night a more than expected perfect environment. The food was outstanding from start to finish - particularly catering for my son who has severe allergies. We would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. Thank you for making our night

I have used the Victoria for many years and have seen its ups and downs. The present manger and staff have improved the place enormously and it has become a very pleasant experience to visit.

Everything was top notch. Great sausage roll and fishcakes and possibly the biggest Yorkshire pud ever. Can't fault anything except maybe over salty and a slightly heavy brownie but otherwise fantastic and super friendly staff

Really unfriendly service. Bar staff appeared like they couldn’t be bothered. Then female bar staff talked to me aggressively.

Sat in the really nice pub garden today, enjoyed drinks, didnt eat but the food we saw people have looked good. The staff were really lovely and accomondating for a group of 6 mums with 6 babies. Had originally tried to book few weeks in advance at Wags n Tales Surbiton but were told they 'couldnt accomondate us' ! Would definately go back to the Victoria.

Visited a few times but find the drinks over priced...£6.95 for a medium sized glass of Chardonnay! It was nice but not worth that. They have a lovely beer garden which draws people in.

Used to be a great pub where big groups met up watched football, boys and girls. The dining area is small and doesn’t look like ever used. The outside is great though.

Lovely surroundings. Good service and good food. An oasis of loveliness in a desert of blandness. Well done to the management and staff.

Very expensive burgers which were a bit on the small side. Nice setting and decor but I can't help thinking that the expensive food prices are paying for the recent refurb. Restaurant area not busy on a Friday night, probably because it is so pricey. The price of the food didn't reflect the quality unfortunately.

We stopped here for lunch on a very hot Saturday, and sat outside in one of the covered wooden shacks. Very cosy, and noted that these can be reserved. We both ordered poached egg with crushed avocado on sourdough toast, drizzled with lemon oil. Just perfect, and good value at £15 for the two plates. Good selection of drinks (e.g. Proper Job on tap, and a couple of alcohol free beers too). Plenty of other options on the food menu, so will try something else when we return.

The best thing about this pub is the nice refurbishment recently, so it has nice decor, comfortable sofa and chairs and good atmosphere - not too noisy. Drinks are OK. Food tastes OK but small portions overpriced (as with so many pubs/restaurants these days). I had a tiny bit of trout with one baby potato cut into small bits - this cost £14, and I was hungry after eating it so I asked waitress for more potatoes, which she gave me. Waitress service was good. I was with someone who had a starter of chicken wings and that was bigger than my main meal, and only cost £6, so wish I had had that instead.

I meet a good friend quiet regularly at the Victoria. It's expensive but has a good atmosphere. The staff are good but tonight the food was terrible with some things inedible. My sausage and mash was bland and tasteless.Heaven knows what the chef thought they were doing with the spicy cauliflower but it was inedible and it beggers belief how any food professional could taste it and then serve it to the public. The chips were under cooked in fat not hot enough so white and soggy. It's very expensive as well so simply not acceptable. But the place is full as it's quiz night so perhaps they can get away with it.Not for me any more though.

Being fed up with the cafes in Surbiton decided to try this Pub for brunch with my wife. The place was quiet which i prefer so service was quick. The staff were very pleasant and efficient. We ordered Rare Roast Beef sandwich which came with Fries and a smashed Avocado on Toast with Poached Eggs. They were delicious and very filling and a a cost of £9.00 and £8.00 respectfully were very cheap.

Not our best evening out that I was over charged on our drinks and when I asked for the manager to complain they didn’t bother to see me as I waited patiently for him/her to turn up at our table and the staff didn’t seem to bothered either.

No cash, no custom. Absolutely no reason to not accept cash and cash saves local businesses a lot in transaction and bank fees for each purchase.

They KNOW how to do milkshakes! Very good quality. Real fruit is so much better than those syrups.

The Antelope is a large, comfortable, classically furnished pub, with a spacious garden. Good meals, eclectic range of music, all on vinyl and is staffed by lovely, friendly people and attracts a broad variety of custom. They sell a wide selection of interesting and ever changing beers, plus beers from Big Smoke's own brewery in Esher. Always a nice experience! This is a comment about Big Smoke, as opposed to the pub: I've keenly supported Big Smoke pubs and beers since they began, but I've not had the same enthusiasm since they ruined one of their best beers- Solaris Pale, a couple of years ago. Without dissecting the flavour profile, it was a wonderful beer, with huge popularity, so surprising they could give up on it, it always featured on my visits to Big Smoke pubs. The replacement for it is a totally different beer style; I couldn't get on with it and felt it was inferior and having chatted with many others, of varying tastes, ages etc, this seems to be the general consensus! I think their reasoning was something to with being quite an expensive and operationally more complicated beer to produce, for what it was and incongruous with the American type pales, they were mostly brewing. Still- Non-sensical, given the massive quantities they were turning over! Ultimately, it's their business model but what really annoyed me was the continued use of the name. Having built up a massive following and they having put a lot of money into the branding and copyright of the name, they didn't want to give it up. However, I think to continue using an established and loved brand, to sell a totally different product is quite dishonest and misleading to customers! Sorry for the rant but that's why I'm not as into Big Smoke as I once was!
