Went for steak night on 28th Nov 2024 pre booked a table for 6pm when we arrived it was all ready for us we all had fillet steak and it’s was delicious. Amazing selection of beers and isn’t flat like some other pubs in St Albans and the staff are very friendly and helpful and was a delightful experience. It’s my third time to this pub and we will return again soon for the burger or steak night.

My wife and I live in North Yorkshire, and were visiting family who live in St Albans who'd eaten Sunday lunch here before and been very impressed. It was therefore the natural choice for our family Sunday lunch. We received a very friendly welcome from the bar staff. A good start in my book. We didn't really check the menu as we already knew what we were going to have: roast beef for three, one roast lamb, a child's roast beef, and a child's chicken. The food was excellent. Every element was cooked nicely; the portion sizes were just right. Nothing to complain about. The staff serving the food were pleasant and attentive. Another tick in the box. The manager was lovely, chatting with us without being intrusive. This was a very pleasant dining experience and one we will definitely repeat when visiting St Albans.

I have been in this pub many times. It was always friendly and welcoming. It seems that it is more of a pub just for eating now. Tables for drinks in November, outside ! The greeting greeting phrase of ‘ have you booked’ I will choose to relax for drinks in one of the many other friendly pubs in St Albans now. I am sure the food is good but it’s not the same !!

We came here for lunch last weekend for the first time and the food, staff and vibe were just spot on. The beer garden is one of the best in St Albans and inside will be really cosy in the winter too. Loads of beers on tap and we can massively recommend the burgers! We live near several other pubs in the centre of town and we think the food is easily the best here. Excited to come back soon!

Although I didn’t realise at the time, I must have ordered roast sole of shoe. The knife was entirely ineffective at carving this ‘meat’ and also the grey potatoes that accompanied the tepid dish. Worst roast known to man.

I love the Verulam Arms for any occasion. Sunday roasts, drinks in the garden, bringing my walking group along on a Sunday or a mid week drink. Great beers, great staff and great food. Furry friends actively encouraged which, we love!

Greeted with a very friendly bar staff. Food great and service was equally good. Staff walked round to ask if we needed anything and made friendly conversation. Would definitely recommend as we came with friends from Australia who thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and kind friendly service

Lovely pub in the heart of St Albans. Wonderful bar staff and management who greeted us with a lovely smile and were very knowledgable with the drinks suggestions. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting St Albans.

We went for a Sunday roast and was not disappointed, crispy roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, roast parsnips and carrots, Yorkshire pud and delicious lamb. Definitely one of the best roast in St Albans. We will be back. Thank you, Charlotte and your team. Betty

We love Charlotte and her welcoming staff. Decent range of beers and wine, with good pub fare! Garden area is a lovely spot in the summer.

Lovely, warm service and the 2 stars are for them. The food was godawful. I ordered the halloumi burger which was a couple of small pieces of dried up halloumi on the words cheapest bun, quite literally crumbled on contact with my fingertips, some underdone aubergine , a minuscule slice of pepper and lettuce. Chips were fine. I wish I’d taken a picture to share the agony but was busy drowning my sorrows in a fairly decent Malbec. This is a really nice pub, and the food used to be great back when it was the Foragers. Now it’s very bad and expensive for what it is. Would cheerfully return for a drink, but lesson learned regarding the food.

A great pub within walking distance of the friend we were visiting. We couldn't go to his usual local as it didn't do lunch on a Monday, but this proved to be a great find. Almost made me wish I live in St Albans! Very friendly staff, good food, good choice of ale.

This pub has improved on previous ownership but stick to keg beer as the cask is obviously sponsored by Sarsons.

We dropped in for a quick lunch after a dog walk in the park. The food was excellent and great value. We’ll definitely be back especially as Charlotte is very friendly and made a big fuss of our dog.

Stopped by the pub on Saturday for a quick drink and few bar snacks. Great service, great food so much so that we decided to go back on Sunday with the family for a roast. The Sunday roast is the best if I have tried in any pub in St Albans and I have been visiting for over 20 years. Well done Charlotte! You run a great little pub with really good food. Brian ☘️

Been before for some good beer but on this occasion, the beer was awful! Had to ask for it to be changed to a different beer 3 (yes 3!) times and each pint was sour and undrinkable! We gave up. They had £35 of our cash and we had a very sour taste in our mouths!

Went on a Friday night for the Beer and Cider festival in the courtyard. Great atmosphere, friendly bar staff and good ciders. Burgers cooked on the bbq were delicious. Dogs welcome and heaters kept us warm later in the evening.

Alex and team went out of their way to make sure we had a great night celebrating my birthday. Extended a table in a tight spot to accommodate a late arrival. Can’t fault the place, care and attn given to a friend who is a Coeliac when ordering. Lovely warm atmosphere.. can’t wait for spring /summer to use the garden

The place looks great, very stylish and a nice place to meet with friends however the food is really lacking. Our food arrived luke warm, as did many other customers who returned theirs. One woman on the table next to us actually went into the deli to get a pasty after waiting so long. Hub browns were grey in colour, very unappealing. Food tasted fine but nothing special, no great taste to anything. When collecting our half eaten plates no member of staff asked everything was ok with the food. Slow service, had to ask 3 times before the bill was brought over and this was not during a busy period. Also waited 45 minutes for food to arrive which considering we ordered eggs and hub browns was very long.

We stumbled across this pub whilst in St Albans looking for a Sunday roast. It was EPIC, the bar staff were lovely and the food was both great tasting but at £12.95 for the roast Beet was really good value. Dog friendly too which was a bonus!

Doesnt compare with the bars in the area when it comes to menu, atmosphere, and staff. The heaters outside only cover a small portion of the back yard so please don’t listen to them when they tell you they’re dog friendly, there’s a big difference between dog friendly and allowing dogs outside

Ales are kept well, the upkeep is great, and the pizza was genuinely top notch
